Texas School District To Paddle Students as Punishment

A school district in Texas has decided to bring back paddling a from of punishment. For those who don't know paddling is using a wooden board to hit a child on the behind. The district has decided it will only be used on children whose parents have given written and verbal consent.

I find this to be very troubling. I could care less weather or not a parent has given consent. There is a reason this practice was banned in many places. Its child abuse plain and simple and parents that are signing are condoning abuse. According to the article studies have shown practices like this can have effects such as students more likely to be defiant or aggressive in the short term and in the long term can have effects on mental health.

General punishment and major punishment work really well though.

Schools really shouldn't be punishing children that's the nod of the parents. And no spanking isn't child abuse

It's not just one school district. There are actually several that allow it, mostly in the South. I was surprised when I found out there were places that still allow it. I think it's backward and stupid.
