I was talking with a coworker today who went to Spain over the summer. He mentioned he went to a bullfight. He said it was a very surreal experience. It was full of spectacle and danger, but also very bloody, violent, and emotionally nerve-wracking. This is similar to my own experience. In high school, I went on vacation to Mexico, and my father took me to a bullfight, and it was one of the most intense things I've ever seen.

No doubt, it was bloody and probably agonizing for the bull, but I could not look away. I was drawn to it. It was like nothing I've ever seen, and after watching the bullfight, I felt like I had aged by 10 years. I do agree it is horribly cruel to the bull, but supposedly bullfighting also brings in a lot of revenue for the local community (the beef gets donated to the orphanages), and many Spanish and Mexicans view it as a proud tradition and integral to their culture, and who am I as an American to tell them they can't do that?

All in all, I'm not sure where I stand on this. What does NSG think of bullfighting?

"bull-fighting" on the other hand is a rather sick sport to torture an animal without need or cause for entertainment.

My sentiments exactly. In the US the bull is prodded into a closed cage and a pneumatic steel bar is pumped into it's skull. In Spain it gets to do what it is made to do and fight for it's life. The revenue is good. It's pain is asuaged by the chance of winning and getting to live.

Generally gladiator fights weren't to the death, too expensive to waste several well trained slaves every time you'd have a game.
