Valanora Information
The most important thing to know about traveling through Valanora is that automobiles are banned except for government officials. A high tech railway system connects the entirety of the nation, with three international airports in Raynor City, Gladerial, and Baysleef. A ferry from Rinaldi travels to and from the island of Capri every hour on the hour. The most distinguishing feature of Valanora is the prevalent amount of forests standing in many of the inner half of the nation, even in cities, with the elven attempts to live in harmony with nature. Vanorians are a polite if not a bit high on themselves, believing elvenkind to be superior to humans, though they show a respect for the potential their humanoid cousins have.

BOJIKSTAN
Ranking: Unranked
Formation: 4-3-3
Style modifier: +2.5
Home ground: Camp Strasburg. Capacity 68,000.
Kitmakers: Smoke Sports
Nickname: Azules

Introduction to the country
Bojikstan is a Nordic and Slavic country that also has various immigrants and speaks Spanish due to a former colonial presence. The country has recently been disconnected with the rest of the world because of civil strife and an outright civil war that has only recently started to ease up, and now the focus is on moving forward, rebuilding, and bringing the entire country into the first world. There is a divide between the western capital of Strasburg, which is very secular, and the eastern largest city, Odena, which is more Christian. The civil war was fought between a corrupt and religious government and secular socialist rebels from the western part of the country, but in the end, a more centrist and democratic government was installed after the western victory. Now, the country is strengthening international ties and working on moving forward. It is currently governed by the Liberal Democratic Party and by Prime Minister Helio Sandoval.

MANAGERS

Image Man. Bogdan Sorokin, 46 | Petersen AF: The former Athletic Vorsji and FC Strasburg midfielder coaches for the family owned Petersen AF, one of the better youth academies in the country. Now, he's stepped up to manage the youth team, bringing a player's perspective and a good perspective for youth football, as a youth team manager and a father who's been involved in the careers of his children. Tactically, he brings a game plan that's built on the back of contradictions. Play defensively, but go all out on the attack when the time comes. Sit back, but be ready to spring forward. Wait for the opponent to make a mistake, and then knock them out when they do. His game is based on countering, and moving quickly when openings present themselves. In other situations, his team will attempt to play sound defensive football and close down on any entry into their third of the pitch.

SQUAD LIST

Starting XI

Image GK. Hayden Rinde, 20 | Northern Tigres: A raw and eccentric keeper who spends just as much time off of his line than he does on it. But his athleticism is impossible to deny, and his leaping reflexes are second to none. He would be a much higher rated prospect if he didn't have a reputation as being a complete head case on and off of the pitch.

Image LB. Patrick Manas, 20 | National Academy Morievo: With his contract rights owned by SC Morievo, Patrick Manas is one of the higher rated prospects from the region and fits well into the game plan, as a gritty fullback who prefers to stay back instead of coming forward. Relentless work rate.

Image CB. Catia Andrade, 16 | Polaris: There's not a ton of depth in the back, leading to the younger of the Andrade sisters receiving a chance to prove herself. She's not a big central defender, but she is a rough one. Some would say that she's dirty. She comes into every match with the mentality that it's a street fight.

Image CB. Jose Estay, 21 | FC Strasburg C: Believed to be one of the players of the future for FC Strasburg, Jose Estay has been in their youth system for a long time and is finally on the verge of breaking through. He's everything that the big city fans would want in a central defender. He has a good mix of speed, power, and football IQ, but is considered undersized for the position.

Image RB. Sean Levin, 19 | National Academy Selta: Another local Selta prospect that's still playing in the city, Levin is a defensive fullback that still has good speed. Instead of just pushing his opponents around, he's better at marking and controlling space.

Image DM. Will Sorokin, 21 | FC Samotath: The team's main workhorse and the first part of the Big Three, Will Sorokin is one of the players to already make a move to a big time league. He's a very physical holding midfielder who specializes in quickly getting the ball and setting up the team's attacks with it, and thus his skills with long balls and accurate passes are considered great. His work isn't glamorous, but it's crucial to the team's success, and he's considered the one player that controls the tempo of this side. He's a general on the pitch, in a way.

Image CM. Bentley Loken, 17 | Torpedo Spitney: Will Sorokin's former teammate at the National Academy at Strasburg is starting despite his young age, because of the unique characteristics that he possesses. He's aggressive in his attacking, and skillful too, and that's hard to find in a long and rangy midfielder like him. He's been called a physical freak, but he has to work on his actual knowledge of the game.

Image CM. Livia Andrade, 21 | Tir Snake Strike: Maybe the boom or bust prospect of the entire tournament, Liv Andrade has a lot of potential to either rise or fall. On one hand, she has amazing skills with the ball, and she can humble top defenders if they find themselves isolated one versus one with her. She has the vision of a good playmaker, too, and her tricks often act as distractions that allow her to set up a play for her teammates. On the other hand, the Sameban born midfielder feels like she fits in nowhere, and suffers from schizophrenia among other things. She may be the second link in the Big Three, but she may be the first to break under pressure.

Image LW. Dimitar Kovalov, 21 | Scaffield: The final member of the Big Three is a winger that's somewhat atypical. His game is more about hustle than finishing, and he's more of a playmaker than a scorer. But he has skill at crossing and at playing the defensive winger role, and his defending is good enough to neutralize the other team's good attackers at times. A highly motivated player, as someone that comes from the streets of Odena, and who lived a dangerous life while playing for the National Academy at Odena.

Image ST. Nadine Sorokin, 20 | FC Strasburg C: The top forward in the FC Strasburg academy system, Nadine Sorokin is trying to imitate the legacy of her grandfather by becoming one of the top striker's in the country. She's a total poacher, who has few technical skills but has a skill for finding herself in the right place at the right time to get a goal. She's an aggressive brawler of a footballer, who has a friendship with Livia Andrade but a grudge with Catia, dating back to heated disagreements from their time playing together in Strasburg.

Image RW. Tyson Marcial, 19 | National Academy Morievo: A rare top prospect from Selmby, Marcial is an all around playmaking winger that fits the mold of what management wants from the wide players in this squad. Able to get crosses in but also hustle back and defend.

Reserve Players

CM. Alessandra Astacio, 21 | New West Gallia FC

Mido-Hinode University's Campus

A man stood in the middle of a room, scrutinized by several pairs of eyes, hidden by the dark. Those were the Council of Heads of the Mido-Hinode University.
The Mido-Hinode University was fully built in 2088, three years after the end of the Independence War that would release Sweden from under the hold of the Danish.
To many scholars of the Hinodejin, that was possibly the first ever true Great War of this new era as a coalition formed by the Swedes, the Kingdom of England and the Kingdom of Hinode against the Danes, Poland, Lithuania, Muscovy, Kazan, Pomerania and the Teutonic Order.
It was probably the one single time where the Hinodejin were ever seen as liberators in Europe, not too long after the Pope caught word of their existence (and their size), promptly declaring a Crusade after much bickering from the Iberian nations of Castille and Aragon.
Said Crusade flopped as no one lifted the slightest of arms against them and their sole possessions in Europe were more of a safety circle towards their sole allies in the continent than a land of riches beyond their imagination.
Queen Tomoyo took it to heart, however, making it later a target that her daughter Mai and her grand-daughter Yuki would later pursue.
Currently, her Great Grand-daughter Taki is already eyeing out how to handle that Pope, specially after he started to push his nose around their festive colony of Kubanakan, near Porto Seguro and the Tapuias.
The three major results from that war were that Sweden would be independent, the Hinodejin were seen as liberators by the Swedes but get all sort of abuse hurled at them by at least seven different nations, including the English who too eyed the third result from that war, a territory now called Mido-Hinode.
Formerly Skaneland, the region had been a part of Sweden for a couple of decades having been briefly controlled by Denmark, only for that area to be given back after some skirmishes with the Holy Roman Emperor, Sigmund I of Bavaria.
While in theory, the Hinodejin could've carved up land through the vast Muscovy in order to keep an eye on Sweden's sovereignty; peace talks didn't allow much chance for that to happen.
In the end, Hinode bought the region from the Swedes, promising to guarantee the new state. Not a bad idea, given how broke that Kingdom was after the fight for independence costed way more than they expected.

Mido-Hinode was a hard topic.
The locals enjoyed living under the rule of the Asakawa, their technology and their innovation making life easier than it used to and to the Hinodejin, this was only part of their mission to ensure peace throughout the world. In fact, this was seen more positively than their then-recent, bloody advances at Nishi-Naratsume, border of Ming.
Everyone else hated them, however. Their witchcraft, the lights that would never turn off, their seemingly endless knowledge of other languages, their non-Catholic ways. And yet, they didn't budge against them.
The words of the Pope were fantastic but nothing, as far as the Europeans knew, could deal with those hundreds of men and women, armored in silver, wielding those weird weapons that shot from a distance, yet lacked the arrows.
Legends that were generated about them were nothing but the grimmest.
To Muscovians, they had spared no natives up north.
To the Poles, they had spared no Muscovians on their way to Sweden.
To the Germans, they had spared no Pomeranians on their way to Denmark.
To the Danes, they had pretty much destroyed their kingdom and now Norway started to get ideas about independence.
Something reeked behind the walls of the former town of Blekinge, now known as the city of Honeyame. Honeyame, for the record, was Mido-Hinode's first ever capital.

The Mido-Hinode University prided itself in building up the finest athletes possible for the region's local armed forces
Due to its' position, Mido-Hinode had to constantly keep forces as so to avoid losing the region to any Crusader force that actually went after them.
Additionally, thanks to the situation at Sweden, it was wise to keep forces there just in case a rebellion sparked.
One of the key departments of the MHU, as a result, was their football team.
A current member of the Mido-Hinode Football League, things had been doing pretty well.
Only one problem though.
Since 2101, the Mido-Hinode Football League moved from the amateur status towards professionalism after the creation of the Golden Road, a major route towards the other parts of the Hinodejin Empire.
The new Golden Road Football League was established with teams that leaped from the old league, with a single exception.
The Academics, Mido-Hinode University's football team didn't join its' former fellow sides.
And that was that. The Accies' schedule lowered considerably, consisting mostly of friendlies against local teams and the odd University side that made the trip through the Golden Road.
Invitations to the University League were often sent, but MHU always refused.
Traveling costs and a sheer lack of interest made sure they kept to themselves.
Other sports saw an increase of funding and recruits as a result.
Ice hockey in particular became the university's greatest effort towards athletics, promoting many a Hinodejin Hockey Championship player.

"And this is why I believe the Mido-Hinode University would benefit from reviving its' soccer program." the man said, resuming his talk.
This was Koji Kagoname. "The Uni's Tornado" Koji Kagoname hailed from the former Mongolian plains and joined the University after being refused at the National Science Academy at Kanshiro.
He took to the sport like a fish to water, but reality struck the team more often than not and winning wasn't a regular thing at the Campus.
Still, he learned a lot from his time at the team.
Briefly pursuing a career as the Academics stopped competing regularly at his senior year, he joined Golden Road side Ashiditsi Brass Cavaliers before retiring at the end of that year due to injuries.
And yet, here he was. Failed footballer, currently a part of the body of teachers, insisting that the Academics return from the dead.
Silence filled the room as the Commission pondered. One voice, this one certainly of old, probably a fighter from the days where those walls harbored a nation struggling for independence chose to talk.
"Mido-Hinode remains a dangerous region to leave, Mr. Kagoname. Due to this, we again refuse your request."
"B-but... Why prevent our glorious institution from once again fielding a team on the empire's national sport? What is there to lose?"
"What is there to win?" wittingly retorted another voice, this one a woman. "To assume a new football side would mean expenses that is far from the university's interests, now or ever!"
Silence once again filled the room. Koji grabbed a hold of his thoughts.
"I implore you to reconsider."
The female voice snapped once again. "You can ask it a dozen of times and we'll still say no."
The older voice, however, had a small laugh. "I have an idea."
A light turned on. The light bulb hovered over the head of a rotund, jolly old man. His name, according to the label on his desk was Markus Robinsson.
Markus smiled. "Every year, we have the Goodwill Festivities to raise funds for the Swedish Widows' Society and maybe a football exhibition could help this year's lack of star power."
"W-w-well, I can put up a football squad by then, Sr. Robinsson, sir!" said Koji, stumbling backwards a bit from the news.
"Now, now." Markus stroke his beard. "We're only washing each others' feet, Koji; you can call me Markus for now."
"For now." another voice snarled. "How can you guarantee this buffoon won't waste our entire money on this?"
"Now, now." The old one once again got to talk. "I'm certain the good coach Koji could train them with a short wage."
He turned to Koji. "We have a deal, Koji. You beat the team we're inviting for the Festivities and we'll reactivate the football side and finally accept those University League invitations."
Koji bowed, taking his leave.
A third light turned on, revealing a very upset, short woman. She wore a yellow hockey sweater with the symbol of a Knight almost like a dress. Her name was Kira Kurosawa, their hockey manager.
Markus sighed. "Kira, I'm aware of your efforts towards getting our hockey team to the point where it is now."
"I'm not having any of this, Markus." She complained, like usual. "Your little attraction is going to blow up on our faces, I guarantee it."
"Guess we'll just have to wait and see, miss. Wait and see."

Koji had been invited for dinner.
The invite came from one good friend of his, one Michi Atamanito.
Michi was fairly new to the region, having relied on Koji's assistance to settle down at nearby town Ikariyama after being apparently sent to the institution via orders from the former Queen Yuki herself.
Albeit suspicious, Koji quickly befriended both Michi and his wife, Hotaru.
"Thanks for the invite, again." Koji noted as he and Hotaru waited for Michi to come with the food.
"We know how much grief you have been having at your quest for getting that football team back up, so..." Hotaru tried to finish the sentence, only for Michi to finally arrive with dishes for the two.
"...consider it as some help for the team itself!" Michi then returned to the kitchen, bringing his plate and joining the three in dinner.
"Well... I think it finally paid off... Kind of... We still need to beat a friendly at the Festivities." Koji noted. "I wonder who we'll face, however."
"You know... the Festivities aren't that... far. Do you even have a team?" Michi pondered.
"K-kind of." He noted, slightly embarrassed. "I managed to assemble a squad out of other sport drop outs but... Let's just say they're not great at the whole football thing, if you catch the drift."
Both Hotaru and Michi looked to each other, briefly laughing.
"Wait. What was that all about?" Koji asked.
While certainly older than the two, Koji was rather naive when compared to those two mainlanders.
"Well." Hotaru rolled her eyes while talking. "You could say we know a way you could get your team in shape."
"...I hope it's not illegal."
"Relax. Just, bring your squad to this place." Michi handed him a note with an adress. It was in Marumo, another town of the Mido-Hinode province.
"And when someone answers, tell him that Diamonds are unbreakable." Hotaru said, smiling afterwards.

Filindostan Football League announces partnership with Leivagre

Image

The upcoming Filindostan Football League has announced a longterm deal with local apparel company, Leivagre. The deal seeks the company to make kits for the league teams and personnel for the next fifteen years. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but an insider revealed that the coverage of the deal includes the addition of the brand to the league sponsorship, having the name Leivagre - Filindostan Football League (or Leivagre League) for sponsorship purposes.

NNS meanwhile will extend its sponsorship of the national football teams, the kits that were used for Campionato Esportiva by the senior team will be adorned by their under-21 counterparts. It is still unknown, however, if there will be new kits that will be made for the senior team come the World Cup season.

FFL PREVIEW
The Pretenders: Fipocor FC, Police, and Army

Fipocor FC

Image
Full Name: Filindostan Power Cooperative Futbol Club
Short Name: Fipocor FC
Nickname: Workers/Manggagawa/Pekerja
Team Founded: 89982
Stadium (Capacity): Kabanalan Sports Complex (15,150)
Location: Kabanalan, Kabishawan
Key Players: Johnpaul, Estong, Casanova
Expected Position: 12th

Fipocor FC is the works team of the Filindostan Power Cooperative. Despite having minimal budget set by the cooperative and low fan support, they are actually regulars in the Filindostan Football Festival, but never advancing to the final match dominated by Fortunas and Venividicci.

One of the semi-professional football clubs in the league, the majority of the squad are employed by Fipocor, apart from some collegiate and washed-up players. Estong Lemaria, last played for the national team in the CE 20, has announced his international retirement after the tournament to focus on finding a way to carry this team to some wins. Johnpaul and Casanova are two of the collegiate players of the club after their relocation from San Marco to Kabanalan in the island of Kabishawan. This was after the club were forced out of San Marco as the Islandic Stadium went into a complete rebuild for international tournaments. It is unknown whether they will go back to San Marco or settle at Kabanalan, hoping for more government support and investors. But the squad is generally happy that they play at the league for their weekly dose of fitness first policy at the cooperative.

Kapulisan sa Kabanalan

Image
Full Name: Kapulisan sa Kabanalan
Short Name: KsK FC
Nickname: Policemen/Pulis/Polisi
Team Founded: 90002
Stadium (Capacity): Kabanalan Sports Complex (15,150)
Location: Kabanalan, Kabishawan
Key Players: SPO1 Benito, PO2 Indira, PO3 Ken
Expected Position: 11th

The police force of Kabanalan has created a sports club for their fitness regimen, and their football division will make its debut in the 90003 season. Supported by the local government of Kabanalan, the team with modest support from their fellow policemen will look to upset the contenders and give themselves a chance of participating in the football festival come October.

Few information is known about the team, but looks like the captain of the team, SPO1 Benito is their key player in their matches. Look also for some comedic and crazy goal celebrations, as revealed by PO2 Indira during one of her public web blogs.

Filindostani Army

Image
Full Name: Filindostani Army
Short Name: N/A
Nickname: The Army/Tentara
Team Founded: 90002
Stadium (Capacity): San Mameng Municipal Stadium (8,782)
Location: San Mameng, Kabunuklan
Key Players: Pvt. Ryan, Sgt. Bambang, Brig. Gen. Bato
Expected Position: 10th

Same as the police of Kabanalan, the Armymen and women of Filindostan has decided to enter some sports teams for their fitness requirements. They had a struggle at first on where the team will be based, but settled on San Mameng, as first, this is where the base camps are located, and second, only one football club is based in this town - San Lomar Cooperative.

Little is known from this team, but Private Ryan, who is a part of the U21 squad in the Di Bradini Cup, is the one who is to watch out for. Their captain, Brigadier General Bathala Ogie Samara, is a stickler for discipline and will look for the least cards dished out in the league.

Next time, we'll look at the next three clubs - San Lomar Cooperative, Tanjung Pagi SC and PSSR Wardogs.

DI BRADINI CUP PREVIEW
Will the young guns deliver?

RAYNOR CITY, VALANORA - The Filindostani Under-21 squad have arrived in Valanora to compete in the 41st Di Bradini Cup. Armed with experience from some of their players in Campionato Esportiva, the young Pula Garuda will look to perform well on their DBC debut.

Filindostan is grouped with footballing veterans in a tough Group A - AOCAF Champions Cosumar, Rushmori powerhouses Eastfield Lodge and Taeshan, and relatively young Alpine Union.

Group A
Eastfield Lodge
Filindostan
Alpine Union
Taeshan
Cosumar

All the matches will occur in Raynor City, as the team will face Cosumar first. Their next matches will be: Eastfield Lodge, rest day, Alpine Union and finally Taeshan.

Manager Berna looks to experiment at first with an untested 3-4-3 formation and a more attacking philosophy, a departure from the counter-attacking tendencies and slightly defensive mentality used by Gerry in the seniors' Campionato experience. With three at the front - Bochog, Yish, and Pokemaster, the manager hope that her wards bring home the goals.

"It's a good squad if you ask me. We'll do our best to win all our matches and we'll go all out with guns blazing." She said upon arrival at Valanora.

RETURN OF THE ROYALS: LLAMANEAN U21 ROSTER

Image

STAFF
Manager - Ryan REAGAN - 49
Assistant Manager - Megan SIGURORZSON - 45

With Trevor Duncan resigning to manage the New Llama Stars, the assistant manager, Ryan Reagan, has earned himself a promotion. Reagan isn't particularly experienced himself, although he's shown a knack for tactics in his time with second-division and former SBCC participants Wheathampton as first coach and then interim manager. A former center-back who played for Sabrefell in Nephara and the national team, Reagan has a lot of potential as a manager - even if his first season in control of a SuperLleague team, Olympic East, ended in relegation.

The position of assistant manager has been given to former Llamanean defensive-midfielder Megan Sigurorzson, who was basically the only thing keeping Kyrinson in the SuperLleague last season. The assistant-manager is a firm man-manager, although she’s hoping to gain more tactical experience with the Royals.

No reds or career-ending injuries. TG me before godmodding.

GOALKEEPERS

#01 - Erin DONALBAIN - 20 - Emerald City Harmony
#12 - Christian MORTENSEN - 19 - Wheathampton Warriors
#23 - Jonathan MEDINA - 18 - AC Bartolomé

Marcos Santana has left, but his club teammate Erin Donalbain - a mediocre shot-stopper but a strong distributor and leader - should be a more than capable replacement. Despite rumors that she’s leaving Harmony soon, she remains one of the team’s greatest prospects and the juggernauts’ second-choice keeper. Behind her on the pecking order, brilliant (if one-dimensional) shot-stopper Christian Mortensen has been a revelation for Warriors after injury problems forced him into the starting lineup, while the lithe, athletic Jonathan Medina has shown a lot of potential for Bartolomé.

DEFENDERS

#02 - Emily GUSTAV - 21 - Emerald City Harmony
#03 - Seth CALDERÓN - 21 - Gallant Cross (BRE)
#15 - Jace KILLIAN-WALTON - 20 - AFC Ruby
#17 - Sergey KUZNETSOV - 19 - Los-Juantos Coastal
---
#13 - Markus VOKES - 19 - New Llama Stars
#14 - Elizabeth TAO - 21 - Xingcheng Renaissance
#16 - Matt BEELER - 19 - Easthaven Centurion

Fullbacks Emily Gustav and Sergey Kuznetsov are key pieces of this Royals team. Kuznetsov’s speed and agility enabling him to bomb forwards and embarrass opposing players, although he’s very unpolished on defense. Meanwhile, Gustav is better on defense, but can attack if needed and is a strong passer for a defender - she’s already fought her way into a starting spot for Harmony. In the center, Seth Calderón is an incredible ball-playing center-back with a brilliant passing touch and a penchant for last-ditch tackles, but he still seems to lack discipline on the field. Whether or not Jace Killian-Walton, a more pure defender who is very athletic, will be able to adapt to this is unknown, but the AFC Ruby callup is a huge talent.

The bench isn’t as talented as the starting four, but there’s some definite potential there. Athletic all-purpose defender Matt Beeler has already started to contend for a starting spot with Easthaven in his first professional season, although like his brother Michael he’s a little wild off the pitch. Elizabeth Tao of expansion club Xingcheng Renaissance is a solid ball-playing center-back - basically a more conservative Calderón - who has proven herself capable of leading a defense at university. Meanwhile, undisciplined Markus Vokes is the rawest defender on this team, on account of tennis being the first sport he played - but the athletic six-four New Llama Stars prospect has serious potential.

MIDFIELDERS

#05 - Michael LUKIC - 21 - 1940 Asure
#08 - Kris ZIEGLER - 21 - New Llama Stars
#10 - Brünhild SIGURDSSON - 20 - Nordsjisvand (ARN)
---
#16 - Griffin BALE - 19 - University of Vargas
#29 - Erika SVENSSON - 19 - Svenssonfjord Dynamo
#30 - Konstantin BAUER - 17 - Kyrinson Cosmos

The midfield might be the most talented part of this team, and there’s a lot of starpower on the bench as well. Michael Lukic, a young but experienced midfielder in the Ethan Candelario mold, has been basically the only thing holding 1940 Asure’s attack-minded system together with his impeccable positioning, discipline, and composure with the ball. Stars backup Kris Ziegler isn’t exactly a Damian Bao, but the high-energy midfielder is a solid water-carrier with an eye for beautiful through-balls. Playing in a more advanced position is former striker Brünhild Sigurdsson. Sigurdsson’s creative eye and ball-winning ability basically carried Nordsjisvand to promotion, and the new position should seriously enhance his strengths.

The starting midfielders may be excellent, but the bench isn’t exactly barren either. University League star and son of a former national-team midfielder Griffin Bale is a solid if unspectacular holding midfielder who does all the little things right, even if he might not be able to make the next step to the Tigers. Svenssonfjord starter Erika Svensson is quick, a strong dribbler, excellent at winning balls back - although her weaker passing touch makes Kris Ziegler still favored to start. And while teenager Konstantin Bauer is a relative unknown, his brilliant attacking potential is definitely very well known at this point after he walked into Cosmos’ starting eleven as a sixteen-year-old.

FORWARDS

#07 - Arquimedes CABALLERO - 21 - 1940 Asure
#09 - Isabella SHI - 21 - Easthaven Centurion - CAPTAIN
#11 - Emma BERDYCH - 21 - Emerald City Harmony
---
#20 - Lorenz MATHIEU - 18 - Kyrinson Cosmos
#21 - Emily LARSSON - 21 - Öslerholm Capitals (ARN)
#25 - Alex IBRAGIMOV - 20 - Red Star Hlavné (EYR)

Discussion about the six attackers inevitably focuses on Isabella Shi, and it’s not hard to see why after the young striker scored twenty goals in twenty matches for Easthaven in the SecondLleague (basically carrying them to promotion). Shi isn’t the most athletic or the strongest, but she’s a brilliant technician who always manages to make dangerous runs, get into strong positions, and put the ball in the net. However, she’s not exactly carrying this attack. Arquimedes Caballero is an incredibly quick winger in the Sebastian Inriquez mold who isn’t afraid to push past defenders or simply dribble by them, although his finishing could use work. On the other end, Emma Berdych is similar - a former number-nine with a brilliant playmaking ability who just couldn’t finish, Berdych will be much happier on the wings.

The bench has a number of solid options as well. Lorenz Mathieu, Bauer’s partner-in-crime for Kyrinson, is a strong finisher and very athletic - but he’s still unpolished and a little limited. Emily Larsson is more of a false-nine, but she’s a very talented one, already challenging for a starting spot for the Capitals with her technical ability and finesse. And the eccentric Alex Ibragimov is a flashy goalscorer in the Korborg mold, and could become a future Tigers star despite his inconsistency.

Pasarga Roster

Home Away Third
Modifier: +1

Manager: Mór Császár, age 42
Assistant: Mezei Orbán, age 41

Keepers
GK: Guglielmo Lo Duca, age 16, Stoneshore United Image
GK: Végh Liliána, age 16, Galatica (F)
GK: Patrícia Szalay, age 21, Stein-los Turkish (F)
Szalay is the clear starter, having a few seasons under her belt in the reserve league for Turkish. That experience as well as agile reflexes is one of the reasons some believe that Patrícia may be a future starter for the senior team, for now she looks to be good enough for the Young Wanderers here in Valanora. Both Lo Duca and Liliána are fresh graduates from youth academies and are very raw, though Lo Duca's sheer size and instinctive command of the box seem to suggest he would be the second choice should Szalay not prove adequate.

Defenders
LB: Markus Roth, age 20, Stilinkeep FC
LB: Ondřej Poláček, age 20, Gracemeria Image
CB: Christian Berg, age 20, Cornellians Image
CB: Torsten Mueller, age 20, Stein-los Turkish
CB: Laurent Chandonnet, age 20, Tanrısal
CB: Tomislav Katić, age 21, Club Stein-los
RB: Margot Carreón Castillo, age 21, Santos Luega (F)
RB: Boban Groenink, age 19, Lunas FC
Perhaps one of the strongest groups of defenders the Young Wanderers have had in recent memory with almost all of the group playing at least some games for their club's first team. Roth is quiet but his strength and impressive position are second to none at his age and get him the start ahead of Poláček who perhaps needs a bit more grooming in the wingplay. Berg has been quite a force for Cornellians since his move there and a great combination of pace and power as well as size makes him a natural starter, while the leaner but quicker Katić is the selection to pair with him, while the quiet but nimble Castillo with her very good crossing ability from a full back position rounds out the starters.

Midfielders
RW: Ádám Berecz, age 18, Baskita FC
RW: Davorka Čerkez, age 21, Hellinic Rouge (F)
MC: Artus Latourelle, age 20, Baskita FC
MC: Maximilian Mueller, age 20, Hellinic Rouge
MC: Georges Cervántez Guardado, age 18, Santos Luega
MC: Ceylan Versteege, age 18, Peynol-Lunas (F)
LW: Magdalena Debeljak, age 20, Hellinic Rouge (F)
LW: Jan Gersten, age 16, Bastion Image
While history says that a strong Pasargan squad is built from the midfield outward, this crop of midfielders is not exactly what one would call the best, though there is some promise. That promise however is all too often still in need of quite a bit of polishing with most of this group, outside of Davorka Čerkez, the biggest stand out from this midfield group, with her pinpoint crossing and stamina to run for ninety and be ready to play again in two days. The Mueller clan will be happy to see Davorka's club teammate get an unexpected call up and starting role, though he lacks the striking power of his uncle, Maximilian has shown flashes of being a playmaker when paired with a good covering partner. That is what Latourelle will look to be, with his above average height and sense to be in the right spot for most occasions, though still in need of grooming on how to properly distribute once he has won the ball. Magdalena Debeljak makes it three Spartans that are starting and one can see why Hellinic has made their rise, if they can produce these crafty attacking youngsters in spades, though the young Jan Gersten looks to have some promise especially after Bastion nabbed him before a home club could.

Strikers
ST: Adrián Makai, age 16, CA Paulinthal
AMC/ST: Alexander Jager, age 18, Dwile Warriors Image
ST: Petar Galić, age 20, Hellinic Rouge
ST: Anacleto Paz Briseño, age 20, Santos Luega
Alexander Jager continues to defy the odds and somehow has convinced Mór Császár that he deserves to be one of the two starters here in Valanora despite their being two older strikers in the group. However one can not deny the sheer presence of Jager, nor the speed and sight he seems to have for goal, showing the instinct of a great striker getting ready to bloom. Petar Galić on the other hand has been carefully brought up into the system alongside his other Hellinic teammates, developing the talent he has rather than being merely gifted with such greatness, being slightly shorter than Jager but with the same exceptional pace and engine that gets up to full speed quickly. Briseño of Santos is more of a technical and clinical striker, looking to take chances when they are presented or crafting them when needs be, while Makai has yet to show exactly what he can do on the big stage. However anyone that can break into CAP's senior squad at age 16 has to be talented, as Jager showed just two years before. What can the youngster bring if given the chance?

Cosumar U21 National Team
Di Bradini Cup 41

Image

Team Information

Nation: The Fiefdom of Cosumar

Government: Cosumar is comprised of 21 historical fiefs that now function as provinces. The Fiefdom is a constitutional monarchy with King James II and the King's Congress at its head. The pillars of full personal freedoms, protecting nature, advancing knowledge, exploring outer space and, increasingly, passionate soccer support are held dear and instilled in the youth of each generation.

Region: Atlantian Oceania

Nickname: Junior Dragons

Colors: Royal Blue, Silver, Navy, White

Stadium: Leviathan Arena (capacity 99,114) in Kaldukosic

Note on Vloo: The roster consists of 24 players, all but two of whom are standard humans. The remaining players, goalkeeper Va'Nega and midfielder Va'Negeja, are of the Vloo people (homo cosumarensis), a sentient species native to Cosumar. Vloo are humanoid in shape and slightly taller on average, with pale blue skin and a pair of horns atop their head. The range of athleticism in Vloo is similar to that of humans. You can recognize which players are Vloo by their surnames: which usually begin with the prefixes Na'- or Va'-.

Team: Johannes Sulo's U21 squad will play a bit more of an aggressive style than Alexander Pearce's senior team did in the AOCAF, with the wingers pressing high, a lethal target forward seldom leaving the box (VZR) and a designated #10 (Isla Sibučić) on the prowl with minimal defensive responsibility. They will try to force mistakes and capitalize on them with quick, up-tempo passing. This generation of young Cosumarite talent includes players already playing prominent roles in the Härlighet Ligan, UICA tournaments and top foreign leagues. One, striker Zeale-Riddick, already has senior caps and goals and started alongside Romikk Valgard in the AOCAF. With the Di Bradini Cup 35 title now far in the rearview mirror, what is already being heralded as a golden generation of Cosumarite youth will now seek to reclaim youth football's most storied prize. They have a spine of players already growing accustomed to winning. Aside from newly-minted AOCAF champion Zeale-Riddick, four players have been called up from the Real Azuris youth team that just became the first to win back-to-back Youth Cups.

Donning the uniform of the senior National Team is a prestigious honor (one that must be earned), so our youth teams do not use the same one. The home (left) and away (middle) kits feature the iconic Azure Dragon that resides in Cosumar's wilderness. The goalkeeper kit (right) is swathed in green and gold - the colors of the royal family.

Coldfieldian Football Team information

Coldfield is an extremely cold nation situated in the northern half of an island in far-eastern Esportiva, whose economy is driven by the manufacturing of machine tools, shipbuilding, and chemicals. Timber woodchipping also plays an important role in the national scenario. Crownsville is the Coldfieldian capital, former British town now home to seven million people - 12% of the national populace. Coldfield bears a tragic and violent history, which is too much complex for many foreigners. Historically, Coldfield has always been a conservative and isolationist country - however, in order to survive the modern world, King Edmund Meyer in 2001 began the Liberal Revolution and many archaic laws were abolished. As a result, Coldfield embraced globalization, the decreasing stigma for the so-called "minorities" and entrance of foreign companies in the Coldfieldian economy. The latter led to a recent economic crash in August 2017, caused by overproduction from state-sponsored industries; the King still subsides national businesses to avoid complete control of the market by overseas corporations. Despite its historical conservatism, Coldfield was a multicultural nation since its foundation in 1890 - more than 15 languages are spoken within our borders and 30 different cultures coexist for more than a century.

Football is one of the three national sports within Coldfield - along with Boxing and Archery. Practiced since 1890 yet the first national football tournament was held in 1950 - the Commonwealth Cup. In early years football teams were quite amateur and they took part in regional championships: North, Central Mountains, South, and West. Nowadays Coldfieldian clubs play in a yearly domestic cup, three national leagues, and six regional conferences. The Coldfieldian National Football Team (the CNFT) was established in late 2016 and took part in Baptism of Fire 64, being eliminated by Amnarei-asud in the penalties after a dramatic match in the quarterfinals. Coldfield also participated in the WC 77 and Campionato Esportiva 19; in the former CNFT was eliminated in the qualification stage after a "cringe-worthy" campaign; in the latter, Coldfield won just one match and didn't make into the round of sixteen. In the World Cup 78 qualifiers Coldfield had a real chance of qualifying, however, the 1-2 loss for Tinhampton at the Crownsville Palace Colossus destroyed any chances our team had, finishing fourth in Group Three with eight wins, four draws, and four losses. CNT also took part in Cup of Harmony 70 and DuPont Charity Cup, being eliminated in the group stage and second round respectively. In Campionato Esportiva XX Coldfield did a fairly decent campaign, being defeated by host Mattijana in the quarterfinals.

Current date in Coldfield is July 2018, summer.

Ázëwyn Fëanáro, Starblaydia's
Manager at both Under-21
and senior level

Staff
AF. Ázëwyn Fëanáro*, Manager, 4,043
270 Caps, 71 Goals (Uncapped at Under-21 level)
Appointed by former club and country team-mate and head of the SFA, Tororin Halatyrion, Ázëwyn Fëanáro takes control of the five-time World Champions, having been played a key role in every campaign from the 44th through to the 56th editions of the Cup, with championship wins in the 44th and 47th editions. Indeed, it was Fëanáro who scored the winner in the 47th Final against Valanora, denying them a title on their own turf and lifting Starblaydia to the mantle of all-time greatest team. Known for her excellent attacking play, range of passing and great eye for goal that lifts her to second in the all-time goalscorers list too, by virtue of a nearly 1-in-4 ratio, Ázëwyn Fëanáro is a symbol of grace, power and beauty from Starblaydia's golden age, some hundred and twenty-five years ago when the Cup was in its 40s. Fëanáro took Starblaydia back to the 78th World Cup in her first try and, although the AOCAF 54 performance wasn't a tournament to remember, a fresh young side of Under-21s are exactly the platform she can use to build her ethos into the national team.

JM. Jerzy Makuszewski, Assistant Manager, 53
83 Caps, 0 Goals (6 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Known as "Chef" by those who can pronounce his surname correctly, Makuszewski took up the mantle of "Best in the World" Lucas Cable to become Starblaydia's unassailable number one between the posts and wear the captain's armband. Always a fiery character, he can shift from jovial to furious in moments, and is expected to act as Fëanáro's 'enforcer', barking out orders and remonstrating with players and officials with equal fervour.

Forwards
18. Anra Kolmkal*^, SC, 21 - Karak Ungor Chiefs
14 Caps, 5 Goals (Uncapped at Under-21 level)
Anra made history as the first female Dwarf to be selected for the Starblaydi national team. Though female Dwarves make up around 10% of Ice Hockey and 3% of Football players in Karak D'Ragh, Anra is the first to break through and wear Starblaydi colours. With the usual Dwarven traits of great speed, stamina and a low centre of gravity, she won't be the one to knock down the long ball, but she'll be on it quick as a flash with a powerful shot. And no, before you ask, she doesn't have a beard.

This is John McCann's second cycle in charge, after the SFA decided to replace Kagami at the end of DBC-39. McCann's first tournament as manager was a resounding success, with the former Handon United and Schottia star powering through the group stages before eventually finishing third. McCann is now one of the rising stars of Schottic management, and his name has already been linked with several big jobs in the SPL. His only previous managerial experience was a season spent as interim boss of the Willox Street Pirates, where he helped them lift the Super-League title. McCann plays a conventional four-four-two formation, with a slight emphasis on attack.

Team info
As many a side has found in the past, it isn't always easy trying to replicate success in youth tournaments. Players grow older, others move out of favour; and given Schottia's policy of leaving out established senior internationals, managers have often had slim pickings to choose from. People might be expecting a lot from McCann and his team this year, after coming so close last time round. However, with only four of DBC-40's starting eleven still in the line up, nothing can be taken for granted.

Louis Hordern remains in the team, despite being capped during the IAC. McCann was keen to have the Handon United star return to captain the side, and given the fact that he's not at the top of the senior pecking order, the SFA granted permission. 18-year-old Ed Lorrey in goals is another returner, and Schottia will be hoping that the Dundee prospect can replicate some of his form from last time round. John van Cleef and Danny Herzogenrath, at centre-back, were both in the squad last time round as well, and ensure some experience in the back line. Alexi Ceanadach receives her first call up at any level, and the young Soessch left-back has been enjoying a very good season with her club. McCann also has Handon United's John Hare at his disposal, and don't be surprised to see him thrown in at some point. Line Stenberg is promoted from the bench, as it is all change in the Schottia midfield. The Kingsgrove girl will provide the attacking impetuous partnering the more defensively minded Colin Loweson at the heart of the team. D'Itille's Jane Schramm and Pirates' Seyda Artîn are both very good options to call upon in reserve. Billy McCorralie has been on good form with Kings Park this season, and will start on the right side of midfield. Meanwhile, star-prospect, Isaiah Vaught, will hope to work some of his magic on the left. The Whitehaven star will have a bit of pressure his shoulders this cycle, and will need to rise to the occasion. Jonathan Rait is a high standard of reserve on the right wing, so expect to see him utilized here in Valanora. Striker, Lara Wedderburn has been smashing them in for Marionville this season, and will start alongside Lilou Reid, who has been equally impressive in Super-Llamaland. Chris McKinsey has also been amongst the goals for Snubbeak Rock, and his first team experience could be useful if called upon.

It's hard to say how this one is going to go. In players such as Hordern, Stenberg, and Vaught, Schottia have some real talent. The strike force of Reid and Wedderburn will also be important, as will their ability to score the goals. Qualification from the group will be a must, or McCann will see his good reputation take a bit of a dent. In the DBC though, a lot of it can come down to the luck of the draw, and we may need to wait and see how far the young Auks can go.

Image
The kits for this World Cup cycle are designed by Schottsport of Schottia

Squad:

Image

Starting XI
GK Ed Lorrey, Image Dundee Warriors, 18. Height: 188cm. Weight: 76kg
The Dundee keeper, Lorrey, is currently regarded as one of the hottest prospects Schottia have ever had in that position. You probably don't hear of many goalies being referred to as wonderkids, but this guy comes pretty close. There was a worry that he might have been too young, as he was handed a starting berth during the last DBC, but four clean-sheets en rout to claiming third place showed just how much potential he has.

RB. Louis Hordern, Image Handon United, 20. Height: 182cm. Weight: 71kg (C)
Another returning bronze medallist, Hordern has now established himself as a key player for Handon United. It's been a big twelve months for the 20-year-old, winning the league with his boyhood heroes, before helping guide them to the Champions' Cup final - He even won his first senior cap as Schottia lifted the IAC-III in Spaam and Kel Assuk. As right-backs go, Hordern really has it all, with his pace, crossing, and defensive awareness. He is the captain of this current side, and his big match experience will be invaluable.

LB Alexi Ceanadach, Image FC Soessch, 20. Height: 179cm. Weight: 69kg
Ceanadach has likely benefited from the strong season that FC Soessch have had, forcing her way into Barry Gorman's first team plans at the start of the year. She has shown great composure, and a real coolness at the back when under pressure. Don't expect to see the same thundering runs forward that you'll see from Hordern on the opposite flank, she's not there yet, but the Soessch youngster can still hold her own.

CB Danny Herzogenrath, Image Port Patrick United, 21. Height: 186cm. Weight: 72kg
Currently Davy Keats' partner in crime at the Breakers, and Herzogenrath will be hoping to emulate his mentor's achievement in lifting this trophy. He was on the bench last time round, so he knows the lay of the land so to speak, and that will stand him in good stead. Herzogenrath is a good defender, but filling in for Grant Carlin is going to be a tough ask, given the last twelve month the former captain has had.

CB. John van Cleef, Image Lammerton, 21. Height: 183cm. Weight: 74kg
John van Cleef is probably best known as the sidekick of Grant Carlin, after the two of them did so well in partnership, but he is a good young footballer in his own right. The Hornets defender is incredibly versatile, and while he normally plays centre of defence, he operated right across the back line and in midfield while at youth level. Van Cleef is smaller, and quicker than most other centre-backs in the Schottia pool, and offers something a little different.

CM. Colin Loweson, Image Hollin 20. Height: 185cm. Weight: 73kg
The first Hollin player to be capped for Schottia at any level since Thio Crillin, if Loweson can replicate he Olympic Nassau Bay veterans achievements, he will be doing well indeed. Loweson is perfectly suited to start in the midfield, having been a part of the Hollin first team since the age of sixteen. For a young lad, he is big, strong, but also possesses a lightness of touch. Hollin have been struggling in the SPL for the last couple of years, but Lawson will know that a good performance in Valanora could put him in the shop window.

CM/AMC/WL Line Stenberg, Image Kingsgrove, 21. Height: 168cm. Weight: 63kg
The Regional Development Side drop out has perhaps now proven her critics wrong, after wining a move to Brenecian Champions Kingsgrove. The girl of Nordkruessen decent is following in the footsteps of illustrious attacking player Eoin Killanen, another Schottic attacker who played in the A-League. Her versatility might go in her favour, as she can act as cover for a number of positions. It's hard to tell whether she is a midfielder, an attacker, or a winger - and that's something managers need to get their head around.

AMR/L. Billy McCorralie, Image Kings Park,19. Height: 178cm. Weight: 70kg
Currently enjoying a run out in the Kings Park first team, McCorralie seems to be thriving under the stewardship of Raven Cullen. He made a really big impact in the junior championship last season, and he seems to have taken that form into senior football. McCorralie can play on either wing, he is capable of some good footwork, and he knows where the net is. Things are arguably looking up at Kings Park, and if this youngster can grow with that current squad, then he could have a very big future in the game.

LWF/ST. Isaiah Vaught, Image Whitehaven Triumph, 18. Height: 184cm. Weight: 73kg
Isaiah Vaught went from First Division player to one of the most sought-after young players in world football over the course of a summer. It's true to say that their has been a lot of hype around this player, and he will need to try not to crack under that weight of expectation. That said, Vaught always comes across as a modest young chap who has his head screwed on; and that is perhaps reflected in his choice of club. He in fact turned down jaw-dropping offers from clubs such as Ulsa and Raynor City, and instead opted for the more humble setting of Whitehaven and the first team football that would come with it. Vaught is tall, fast, direct, and has a wicked strike on him. He can play down the wing or through the centre, but he is best utilised in a position where he can run at defenders.

CF Lilou Reid Image New Llama Capitals, 21. Height: 174cm. Weight: 67kg
Lilou is the daughter of Port Christopher manager Jim Reid, however, she seems to have gone down the path of representing her country of birth, rather than her one of upbringing. She has always been overshadowed a little by her family connection, but the striker is a very good player in her own right. Her summer move to New Llama Capitals underlines just how far she has come, forging a successful career for herself in Super-Llamaland. A very intelligent attacker, with a lot of youth international experience, Reid should perform well alongside Wedderburn.

CF/AMC Lara Wedderburn, Image Marionville (on loan from Cornellians), 20. Height: 178cm. Weight: 69kg
Wedderburn has been one of the hottest prospects in Schottic football for a while, but trying to break into the first team at Cornellians has proven to be a bridge too far. Wedderburn has been outstanding at youth level, but due to a lack of first team football, a senior cap has thus far eluded her. She will now be hoping that a loan move to First Division favourites, Marionville, will give her the chance to show what she can do with a concerted run. Fast, strong, and very athletic, she has all the raw attributes to make it.

Subs
GK David MacRudder, Image Handon United, 19. Height: 187cm. Weight: 72kg
Third choice keeper at Handon United, but one to watch for the future. MacRudder is a bit of an all rounder, good in the air, and stands up well in one on one situations. Probably some way off the United first team, but this will be a good experience for him to learn from.

RB. Jeremy Buckthorn, Image Dundee, 21. Height: 181cm. Weight: 670kg
It's absolutely rotten luck that Buckthorn has been born in the same generation as Louis Hordern, who is also a year younger than he is. The Dundee man is a very similar player, but given the fact that he plays for a smaller club, he is likely to have to work twice as hard to get noticed. He was on the bench last time round, and is going to have to be content with getting splinters yet again.

LB. Vanessa Stocker, Image Port Patrick United, 21. Height: 179cm. Weight: 64kg
A young attacking full-back, whom the Breakers' fans seem to be pretty excited about. Stocker is arguably the best home grown talent to come through the ranks at Port Patrick since the 'Fantastic Three' eight years ago, and they will be keen to retain her services. She is quick in covering back, and good at keeping the opposition quiet.

CB/DM. John Hare, Image Blue Coast 1981 (on loan from Handon United, 20. Height: 187cm. Weight: 72kg
A former Junior League player of the year, John Hare is on the brink of the Handon United first team. He follows in an illustrious line of United centre-backs including Souter, Ross, Keats, and Scougle - and the club are determined this one won't get away. He is very technically gifted, textbook modern centre-back, but he might need to be content with a spot on the bench to start with. The player, who can also operate in midfield, is currently on loan at Blue Coast.

RM. Jonathan Rait, Image Galatica, 21. Height: 188cm. Weight: 75kg
Rait was the jewel in the crown of the Regional Development Academy last season, and was so good that he decided to leave before completing his degree. One of the first Schottians to play in Pasarga, there will be a lot of eyes on him, looking to see how he progresses. Rait is one of those players who could just run all day long, and it might be the case that McCann uses his pace and stamina in the closing stages of the match, to make inroads against the tiring legs of the opposition. Huge potential, but he will benefit a lot from a full season in senior club football.

AMR. Kirsty Nevay, ImageJottnar Kallsmudden,18. Height: 179cm. Weight: 68kg
The first Schottian to play in Buyan since the league re-entered the UICA. She has joined up with the Giants, a club with a fearsome reputation for bringing though young talent. The three years she spent there certainly did Kim Coultan's career no harm at all, and if Nevay can achieve half of what her predecessor did, then she'll be doing well. She is a conventional right-winger, who has a few neat tricks at her disposal, very reminiscent of a young Chloe Rudden.

LM Katie Smart, Image Lammerton City, 20. Height: 174cm. Weight: 60kg
Smart has a little more experience now, even if it did come as her side were relegated. She has been playing well for Lammerton City over the past two seasons though, and a move in the right direction soon, could be what she needs.

DM Ana Aytoun, Image Handon United19. Height: 181cm. Weight: 68kg
Handon United youth academy product, who alongside her brother Jimmy, has been pushing hard for a place on the bench. Ana Aytoun is a strong defensive midfielder who does the job of cleaning things up. She wins the ball back, looks up, and plays the sensible pass to spring the next attacking move. She is comfortable on the ball, but don't expect much from her going forward.

CM Seyda Artîn, Image Willox Street Pirates, 19. Height: 180cm. Weight: 68kg
One of the Christopheran Super-League's brightest stars, Artîn no doubt disappointed their smattering of fans by declaring allegiance to Schottia. It's not entirely unreasonable, given the fact that she was born there, but Port Christopher manager, Jim Reid, clearly hoped she would have pulled on a Sea Lions jersey. Seyda Artîn is a very capable young woman, with bags of energy, and a commanding presence in the centre of the park.

CM Jane Schramm, Image D'Itille, 21. Height: 159cm. Weight: 64kg
Schramm's career was soaring six years ago, when she helped Schottia to the U15 WC title while playing in the now defunct Woman's league. She's had ups and down since then, the collapse of the Q-League, along with seeing both promotions and relegations with D'Itille, but she seems all the stronger for it. She deserves some special credit for making it as a footballer, given the fact that she stands at a lofty 159cm, and always looks like she is carrying a few extra kilos. Despite her physique, she rampages around the pitch with a face that looks like she's chewing a wasp, snapping at heels, and generally wreaking havoc. Picture a cannonball with a bowl-haircut.

CF Chris McKinsey Image Snubbeak Rock, 21. Height: 176cm. Weight: 69kg
Came through the Cornllians youth academy, winning caps at U15 level, before leaving the then SPL champions to join up with Snubbeak. McKinsey has been at the heart of the New Island side's attack for the last four years, and he thoroughly deserves this call up. He is a lighter weight, pacier option in the attack, and always looks to take players on. He will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of his former teammate Nick James, in winning a Schottia cap (and no doubt a move to a big club) in the future.

CF Laura Annesley Image Cranequin City, 21. Height: 179cm. Weight: 63kg
The former Project +90 star is now going into her second season with Nepharim side Cranequin City. She's not a world-beater, but she comes from a renowned youth academy, and is a very hard worker. Annesley has also played a lot of football, both at youth international level, and in the 24-team Nepharim first division, which should serve her well.

Player roles Captain: Louis Hordern | Vice-Captain: Colin Loweson | Penalties: Line Stenberg | Free Kicks: Lilou Reid (R) - Isaiah Vaught (L) | Corners: Louis Hordern (R) - Line Stenberg (L)

The Euran Football Association’s DBC 41 Squad

Manager: Mike Humphrey (59, Eura)
Assistant Manager: Danny Sullivan (41, Eura)

Eura, who traditionally do not send full strength sides to the Di Bradini Cup (when they compete), have decided once again to take it a bit more seriously. The management staff stand testament to that. Few international footballers can claim more experience than Mike Humphrey who has over two hundred caps for Eura, albeit during the era where it mostly failed to qualify and had an unchanged squad most games to rack up caps due to a lack of depth. The stalwart centre back and at times captain of the 50's and early 60's era spent time in various lower level club jobs before deciding to take up the reigns back in the national set up. His assistant is Danny Sullivan, a former creative left midfielder for the Euran national team and memorably Brigham, a splendid player who not many had down as coaching material before his recent good work at the Brigham academy.

Coaching Staff/Strategy: With the previous DBC squads not going very far at all, the CFF has taken matters into their own hands. Didier Jacques has taken over as the Manager of the squad, having spent the last few World Cups as an assistant manager to Silian Parker. Jacques is more of a personable character, which will be perfect when dealing with younger players whose personalities haven't been tampered by experience. This team isn't very deep in the backfield - only Cierra Anderson and her backup Valence Ilya has any big time experience. Mia Ria will be dependable behind the net, but the team will definitely have to score. They have quite a group to do that, though. Between Thorben, Kuzami, Mora, Han, Kelly, Victoriane, and Prim, this team can score from anywhere at any time.

Goalkeeper: Mia Ria has been a kid wonder and now soaks up minutes during World Cup Qualifying against the lower-ranked teams in Chromatika's groups. She has struggled in the DBC, however. That being said, she still by far has the most experience of any Chromatik keeper her age and deserves another shot.

Defenders: Emilie Nordman is a physical tackling type of defender who knows how to take a foul when necessary, as she needed to do that a lot at Urrheddiao State last season in the collegiate ranks. Kattie Will is a crafty center back, while Cierra Anderson and her backup Valence Ilya have international experience and both use their size (small for Anderson, a bit larger for Ilya) as well as their heads to aid in the defense. The group has had some trouble with cohesion during training, and it will be communication that will be the most interesting aspect of the game.

Midfielders: Some huge names here. Molly Thorben carries on her brother's legacy, Mimi Kuzami and Hermaeus Mora both know how to score, and the same can be said for Han. The greatest struggle has been figuring out who is going to be the passer, and it seems that Mora is going to be more of the assist player of the four. That being said, though? Everyone here can shoot, everyone here can run. Ridiculous depth here as well with the backups.

Forwards: Whitney Kelly, Kaytlyn Victoriane, and... Cierra Prim? Don't sleep on the Z'ai'ai product, but the bevy of strikers that this team has is also scary. Behind Victoriane is the speedster Lightning, supermodel Sierra, and Keira's now confirmed younger sister. This should be fun to watch.

Expect the team to let in goals once in a while. Hopefully expect to see them score a few more. Didier Jacques' era begins.

Starting Lineup vs. Furellem: Ria; Nordman - Will - Anderson; Thorben - Kuzami - Mora - Han; Kelly - Victoriane(C) - Prim. Projected Subs: Armageddon -> Kuzami, Ilya -> Anderson, Lightning -> Victoriane.

OOC: I am going to have the Familia series continued eventually, but I realize now that I have to do this one first... It'll follow the Andrade and Sorokin families through the tournament and set up the later one.

Crazy Youth

Chapter One

Catia Resendes Andrade had exactly one goal on her mind. Murder Nadine Sorokin. What happened after that didn’t matter. In her mind, Nadine was taking everything that she wanted. She was Catia’s main problem, not the consequences of what would happen next. Her sister told her that she was being petty. Her friends would rather side with the older and more popular player. The coaches were all blinded by Nadine’s family name, claiming that the backstabbing bitch wasn’t a bully at all and that Catia needed to develop a thicker skin. Of course she wasn’t. Nobody with the last name Sorokin could do wrong in Strasburg, and Cat’s own sister believed the facade. That’s all it was, a facade.

Everyone said that Nadine was so nice. That she was always the coolest girl in the room, while still keeping her virtue and treating her teammates well. A leader, that was what they frequently called her. Everyone said that she would be captain material when she was older. Well, that didn’t stop her from making a move to be with Bentley Loken, the one person that Catia considered special. It didn’t stop her from turning on her former close friend, telling Catia to get over it, saying that Bentley never liked her in the first place. That was another lie. It was an unforgivable one at that. Nadine was from one of the most popular families in the country, in any profession. She could have had anyone she wanted, but she just had to pick Bentley. She knew how Catia felt about him.

And now Cat was getting ready to make her pay. All of the academy players lived in the same apartment block, not far from the small inner city ground where FC Strasburg C played their home matches, and she was standing outside of the door to Nadine’s apartment. She’d seen Bentley enter earlier, also, which was perfect. It would give her a chance to kill two birds with one stone. Her attachment with Bentley was nearly broken by now, and she really didn’t see him as any different than Nadine. After all, it had been his choice to distance himself from her, at the same time that he started spending more and more time with Nadine. And then he’d spent a weekend at the Sorokin manor, coming back as the other half of a couple.

“Fuck it,” Catia muttered, knocking at the door and pulling out her pistol with her other hand. Nadine opened up within seconds, and immediately, Catia was on her. She had her free hand around her neck, driving her backwards as she pushed the door closed behind her. She pushed Nadine back until they were in the living room, leveling the pistol at her rival and pressing the barrel against her forehead. “You chose the wrong person to backstab,” she said, her voice shaking with every word. That didn’t sound how she wanted it to. It was clear that she was nervous, but she still had all of the leverage in this situation.

“The fuck are you doing?” Nadine snapped back, unfazed by the situation. She reached for the gun and pushed it down, extending her other hand to push Catia away. But Catia was stronger than her size indicated, and she grabbed Nadine’s hand and pinned it to her side. The gun was pressed directly into Nadine’s gut, and if Cat wanted to end her right there, she could do so easily. But somehow, all of her nervousness was coming out right now. She couldn’t make herself pull the trigger.

“You took everything from me, from the person I loved to the friends and coaches that you turned on me. And I’m getting some justice for that,” Catia replied, raising the pistol once again. “I’m going to get back at everyone that’s fucked with me, and I’m going to do it by taking their golden girl from them-”

“It’s not going to make Bentley like you.”

“Bentley is going to burn in hell next to you, when I’m done.”

“You’re going to give up your career and spend who knows how long in some overcrowded Strasburg prison-”

“Will I? Maybe I’ll go down shooting, today.”

“That’s what you want?” scoffed Nadine, completely confidently. Catia realizes that she’s still trying to talk her way out of this, and it only focuses her even more. The more she talks, the bigger the chances are that all of this falls apart. “You want death? You want the easy way out? That’s pathetic, for someone who always brags about being tough, about being a warrior. You are tough, sometimes, I’ll give you that. There’s not many players like you, who will risk their health day in and day out on the pitch by playing as wildly as you. You’re telling me you can handle that, but you can’t handle a little relationship drama? Like I said, pathetic.”

Even though she knows that Nadine is just trying to wind her up and distract her, the words cut deep. “I’m braver than you’ll ever be. I’m willing to face death-”

“You’re willing to choose death over facing your problems.”

“Just like you use your family and friends instead of solving any of your problems?”

Nadine just sighs and backs away, raising her hands in the air. It’s a bold move, and Catia waits for her next words, trying to judge what her intent is. “If you want to kill me, than do it. But like I said, it’s not going to make Bentley like you. He’s probably never going to talk to you again. It won’t gain you friends. None of my friends are going to like you, after this. You’re going to end up off of the team if anyone finds out what you did, and you’re going to waste away in prison while everyone else is in their prime years. Or maybe you’ll die in a shootout, like you said. In which case, you get none of what you want. Besides, I doubt that you’re brave enough to pull that trigger. You are choosing the cowardly way out, after all.”

By now, Bentley had come from one of the other rooms to see what the commotion is about. He’d be greeted of the scene of Catia still holding the gun, but with her hand shaking like crazy and with tears running down her face as Nadine talked her way out of danger. He didn’t know the full history between the two, but he had somewhat of an idea, and he ran to intervene. “Cat, you don’t have to do this, you can walk away and we can never mention this again. Don’t… Don’t do something that you’re going to regret as soon as you do it-”

She turned the gun on him. “I don’t think I’m going to regret anything,” she said, and she closed her eyes and prepared to squeeze the trigger. But Nadine was right. She didn’t have the guts to do it, even after planning it all out and running through it in her head so many times. No matter what she told herself, she still had an attachment to Bentley that she couldn’t just break. She wanted to shoot, but she couldn’t force her body to obey her mind’s command, and her heart took over for her head.

Cat let the gun drop, and she slumped down next to it. “Nadine is right. I don’t even have the courage to pull that trigger. I’m a complete fraud, and… I’m pathetic,” she said, before grabbing the gun and stuffing it in her waistband again, running out of the apartment and pulling up her shirt to cover her face. It was fitting that even her attempt to end her problems wouldn't work. Why would it? Nothing else in her life was working out, after all.

***

Livia Andrade awakes to a symphony of voices in her head, that definitely don’t belong to herself. It’s not always this bad, but she can tell immediately that she hasn’t taken the medicine that the psychiatrists want her to take daily, and she can also tell that she isn’t in her own apartment. It doesn’t look like she’s in somebody’s house at all, but in an entirely different setting. Fuck.

They’ve finally kidnapped us.

We’re all going to die.

You really fucked up this time, Liv.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?

We don’t even know where we are this time! Nice one!

“Shut it,” she hisses through her teeth, rubbing her sore head and then reaching for her phone. The voices cease their talking for a moment, but she knows it’s only going to be just that, a moment. There’s a mirror in front of her, and she looks herself over. Her hair’s a mess, there’s bags under her eyes, and she’s missing her shoes. She’s dressed in black punk clothes, so she must’ve spent the last night partying. That’s it. And she’s in the backstage area at some kind of club, where a concert had been held. The memories are coming back, and it would explain why her clothes smell of old beer.

Another girl steps into the room, probably to clean up, and she looks at Liv as if she’s noticing that she’s finally awake. “Have I been here for long?” Liv manages to ask, fighting back the paranoia that’s building in her head. It’s always worse when she’s in an unfamiliar situation, talking with strangers. Even when she’s never met someone, she can’t fight the feeling that they’re there to get her.

“You passed out last night. You looked pretty high on who knows what, just saying.”

“Damn. Where the hell am I, anyway?”

“Club Strasburg. The coolest club in the city.”

“I’m in Strasburg?”

“You really don’t know much, do you?”

“No shit,” Liv mutters, managing to stand and wander towards the door. The memories are coming back, but not quickly. She remembered coming here to look for her sister. Because they would all be playing together very soon for the junior national team, she needed to try to mend the problems between Catia and Nadine. She’d heard the story from Nadine, about Cat pulling a gun on her and Bentley. And Cat denied it, but Liv knew deep down that the story was completely true. That was exactly the kind of thing that Cat would do in that situation, and Liv was trying to prevent something else like that from ever happening again.

She could also remember being berated. Being told that she should solve her own problems before she tried to help, and being told that she had no idea how it felt to be in that position. Cat had claimed that Liv was the better player and that she was always treated better because of it, like she always did. Cat tried to say that nobody understood her and that Liv was betraying her by being friends with Nadine, and she’d stormed out of the club after a short talk. And then Liv had spent the rest of the night contemplating both of their careers, and getting high. They were both leaving Strasburg for the Terranean League, but for different reasons. Liv couldn’t make it to the first team and felt slighted, and she also felt like an outsider in Strasburg. Catia couldn’t reconcile with Nadine, and couldn’t make herself return to the same team.

But now they all had to play on the same team, to represent their country in front of a massive stage, and it was all one big complicated web of emotions and relationships. Nadine was friends with Liv but enemies with Cat, which would now turn the sisters against each other. Will Sorokin would be the team captain almost certainly, but his blood connection with Nadine meant that he’d side with her on most things. Bentley was dating Nadine, but everyone wasn’t against Cat. Hayden Rinde had become friends with Catia when Northern Tigres were playing on the road in Strasburg, and Tyson Marcial was close with both of them. The Morievo prospect had trained in Strasburg while injured, and while he had a reputation for being made of glass, it was hard to deny that he was influential within the team as one of the starting wingers.

Liv wished that they could all just get along, but in a big city like Strasburg, that rarely happened. There were always huge egos, and with so many players having ties to the city, it was hard to keep their personal affairs from crossing into team business. “Livia?” the girl behind her asked, as she was about to step out of the door. “One more thing.”

“Okay?”

“Beat the hell out of the other guys when you get to Valanora.”

“You already know I will.”

***

“Welcome, everybody, to Camp Strasburg,” says Will Sorokin, stepping onto the pitch at the stadium that the youth team is set to train at before the Di Bradini Cup. “The greatest stadium in the country, home of FC Strasburg and the national football team. It’s also been host to some of the most legendary games in our country’s history, and while my family has played in many of those, I know that most of you haven’t. So welcome.”

“You haven’t played in any matches here, pretty boy,” Tyson remarks, continuing the chippiness between him and the Sorokins that’s been going on since the team met up. “FYI, I’ve been here before. Saw the Morievo boys upset your Blues, I was right over there in the away corner.”

“Must’ve been great. Like when I was on the sideline over there when we lifted the title a few seasons ago.”

“Alright, boys, calm down,” says Bogdan Sorokin, leading the group to the sideline and gesturing for them to form up. “We’re heading out for the tournament in a few days, so I want to go over some things that I want you to remember. Not game instructions. That will come later. I want to talk about the things that are more important than that. The things that you’ll need to learn sooner or later if you want to have success in your careers beyond this.”

“First of all, we’re a team. A T-E-A-M. Team. Some of us are from the west, some of us are from the east. Honestly, it doesn’t matter. It’s been hundreds of years since the country was first unified, and we should be able to put the divide between us. We’re playing for the same flag, and I want all of the east vs west stuff to be put on the backburner while we’re together. I don’t want to see westerners only talking with westerners, and I don’t want to see easterners only talking with easterners. We’re better than that,” he starts, looking over the players as they watch intently. “Now, there’s another meaning when I say that we’re a team. I know we have a couple of great talents here who are already playing for big clubs abroad, but I want to make sure that everyone remembers that this is a team game. Playing hero ball isn’t a way to win a championship. You all want to get your highlights, but know that you’ll get to play in more matches if you remember the team first.”

“Coach, I have a question,” asks Nadine, raising her hand like a student at class. Everyone’s eyes turn to her, and she just has this smug look on her face, like she’s planning something.

“Yes, Nadine?”

“Why do we have two Samebans here, if we’re all playing under the same flag? They don’t even want to be in our country.”

Liv’s jaw nearly drops, and the voices in her head go crazy. But through it all, she realizes that this attack on her and her sister is aimed completely at Cat, not her. Nadine knows that only one of them is going to react to the remark, and it isn’t Liv. She’s going to say something, but Catia is already standing and moving towards Nadine, who looks satisfied. “Don’t confuse me for my sister! I’ve spent more of my life in Bojikstan than I did in Sameba, dipshit!” she shouts, charging Nadine and giving her a hard slap.

“Cat, you’re getting baited-”

It’s too late for Liv to say anything. Shit. There’s already a scuffle happening, and even though it’s quickly broken up by teammates and members of the staff, it’s already done it’s goal. It’s painted Catia out to look like a bad guy, and now, Nadine looks like the innocent victim who was attacked after a simple remark. In a way, it’s true, but it’s still somewhat misleading to those who don’t know the history between the two.

Liv realizes, as soon as the fight is broken up, that she really just has one goal in this tournament: protect her little sister.

Filindostan & Gloriax for the graphics.
You for reading.

Obviously, some wiseacres will vaguely point in the direction of the 52th rendition of the most prestigious youth tournament of the multiverse but these two preliminary games aside, this will be the effective debut of the Young Hedgehogs in the Di Bradini Cup. For this task, the BFB has called in the help of Jani Rinne, a man who, after a fruitful career at Seura Pohkakunti, proved his skills both as a pundit and a U18 coach and who combines natural authority with a capacity to put the personal development of the players over the result - the best of both worlds in the long term. But he has also been chosen because he doesn’t look at this tournament as a fun trip abroad and wants to discover who of the talents will swim… And who would sink.

Considering the fact that only one of his disciples, the promising striker Gustloff, has an A-cap on his conto, this will be the first international experience for the vast majority of the players, a given which limits the official target to “doing well in the group stage and have a sniff at the second round”. But then again, nearly all those present are first-team members of a Top Division club and some, such as Hedlund, Bjelland and Nyberg form a part of their starting line-up. No wonder that national manager Steponas Teriouris announced that he wants to use the DBC to scout internally on who could be a good add-on for the existing group - he’s a known fan of an extended match squad to give youngsters a taste of what’s coming around the corner. As such, personal and national ambitions are intertwined.

Image

1.GK – Sergei Gazulov – 20 – Tjelberg Forening
12.GK – Oskar Holm – 20 – Bengtsmark IF
23.GK – Aigars Prackins – 17 – Sparta Torspeda

A fierce rivalry for the gloves and if we believe the whisperers, quite some enmity off the pitch as well between the two main candidates for the starting spot. Manager Jani Rinne can pick between two goalies who grace the bench at a top-level club, eager to break into the regular team. After careful consideration, it seems that his preference will go to Sergei Gazulov, who showcased at Druzhna last year that he has the composure to withstand pressure combined with excellent communication skills to rule in the box. Added to his experience, it gives him the upper hand over Oskar Holm, a taller keeper and better on his line but still a bit timid when organising his back four. With an eye on the future, Aigars Prackins has been added as third goalie. What he lacks in size, he makes up in reflexes.

2.LD – Ardins Saveckas – 19 – Sparta Torspeda
3.CD – Stein Vellmark – 18 – Jottnar Kallsmudden
4.CD – Michal Wiech – 20 – Gornik Wladica
5.RD – Ivar Bjelland – 18 – Jottnar Kallsmudden
13.LD – Svante Svensson – 17 – Bengtsmark IF
14.CD – Steff Palaanen – 19 – Linnameeskond Harseni
15.RD – Antoni Kadot – 18 – Garbarnia Hoyersko

There are quite a few teams who don’t mind adding their young striker to the selection on a matchday but there seems to be a bit more fear to throw a junior defender in front of the lions – the margin for error seems smaller. It makes the pool for Rinne a tad smaller but on the bright side, all those included have passed a high bar. The only regular starter must be Ivar Bjelland, the younger brother of the gifted Jottnar duo. He will feature with his teammate Stein Vellmark, both carrying the Kallsmudden mark of a fine pass. Vellmark is a better header than his teammate but lacks the unstoppable rushes of the former. Joining in the heart of the defence is Michal Wiech, a technically limited but dedicated element and on the left-hand side of this fairly traditional four-men defence, Saveckas seems to be top dog: clever, nice cross but still a bit error-prone so we might see Svensson take his place, a player of huge talent but a little frail, even amongst U21 teams. Palaanen, the only second tier player and the dedicated Kadot complete the selection.

6.DM – Mats Hedlund – 19 – Welanduz Vadshult
7.AM – Carl Nyberg – 20 – Bengtsmark IF
8.RM – Moritz Rothblatt – 19 – Ernesse Stahl
10.AM – Reidar Bjelland – 20 – Jottnar Kallsmudden
16.DM – Daniel Rysinski – 20 – Garbarnia Hoyersko
17.LM – Ivars Berzins – 19 – Sparta Torspeda
18.CM – Jakob Fisker – 19 – Tjelberg Forening
20.AM – Stepanas Mazeika – 19 – Slask Pruzniwczo

If there is a wealth of talent somewhere, it must be in the middle of the pitch for the Buyanese. Whilst we wouldn’t say that the next Sverre Devold has stood up (yet), plenty is expected of Reidar Bjelland who is, just as Buyanese Greatest a Jottnar product. Combining amazing vision and subtle power, he will be the playmaker but he is also supported by three high-quality elements. Carl Nyberg earned, as a starting player for Bengtsmark IF, the captain’s ribbon and has already tasted of Champions’ Cup football – a testimony to his potential. For once, Nyberg will operate from the left side of the pitch to allow Moritz Rothblatt, a player with volume and a high work rate, some room. Behind all that forward-thinking potential, the four lungs of Mats Hedlund should ensure the balance. Considering that he is already a linchpin for midtable Welanduz demonstrates why he can be crucial for the Young Hedgehogs as well. A quality diamond but the bench ain’t shabby either. Rysinski, Berzins and Fisker are all on the verge of their first team and even if not honed, on their way to become reliable Top Division players. Stepanas Mazeika serves as the back-up for Bjelland – less experience, less volume but a pass that slices through tungsten.

9.ST – Jon Fossum – 19 – FC Issington (APX)
11.CA – Ekhard Gustloff – 20 – Pajukas Sport
19.CA – Albin Holm – 18 – Bengtsmark IF
21.LW – Edgards Zaitis – 17 – Viztourzys Kolektyvinis
22.RW – William Marke – 19 – Tjelberg Forening

As it is anywhere in the multiverse, or even in that bizarre online game called FIFA Football, young strikers make chairmen sing with delight and stretch their wallet. No wonder that the attacking duo will be made up by two attackers who were moved over during the off-season for a handsome sum. For a record of five million, Ekhard Gustloff left Ernesse for Pajukas Sport where he should serve as saviour of the city and targetman, at the same time. Thankfully, he’s a modest, tall, strong and decisive player, keeping one eye on the goal and one on a teammate. He has been matched with Jon Fossum, the only Young Hedgehog who earns his wage abroad having moved to Apox. What he lacks in physical prowess, he compensates in style and positioning, making him lethal without necessarily playing all that well. The back-up for both is a nice blend with Albin Holm who turns out every now and then for reigning champ Bengtsmark – a killer but with a gentle touch. When the time asks for it, Rinne can opt for wingers which allows him to not only feature the lanky Marke but also the short dribble wonder Edgards Zaitis, dubbed as the second Eero Halmiini. A reference that will not make much of a dent to most but trust us, it means a thing or two.

Remarkably, the Young Hedgehogs will make the very first appearance of the brand-new shirts - they even still have that lovely smell of being unspoiled and unbeaten, although that could just be standard No Nonsense Sportswear.

OOC: In case anyone is wondering, these stories are going to be a bit of a catch up with the usual characters, mid WC cycles.

What... the... hell is it meant to be?' Evelyn Conjure asked, as she tilted her perspective this way and that trying to make sense of the congealment of papier-mâché and feathers sat in the middle of the table.

'It's a cormorant!' Ross Renshaw replied, is if it were obvious.

'Oh... It's beautiful.' Evelyn took a deep breath, thrusting her hands in inside her pockets for comfort as she looked around the room. This was a farewell party Blue Coast style. Bowls of crisps and cocktail sausages, enough beer to float a battle ship, and banner with the word farewell was misspelled, hanging lopsided over the doorway. Evelyn didn't normally drink, but the bowl of punch sat in the corner was starting to look tempting. It wasn't that her teammates weren't going to miss her - they held a genuine affection for her - this was just the only kind of celebration they knew. How was it that life in Paradise Street managed to feel both, small-town, and utterly devoid of personality at the same time?

'Warm this week, huh?' Ross brought Evelyn out of her reverie with an epic tangential topic shift that only he was capable of. 'I had the AC up to full last night and my balls were still sticking to the inside of my leg.'

'I'm sorry to hear that.' She answered coldly as she walked over to the table, to inspect the sausages. 'I thought Paul was going to do the catering?' She asked hopefully. There was no way the spread she saw before her was the product of the chef's culinary skill.

'No he had to fly back to Schottia actually.' Ross answered quickly. 'His mother took a bit of a turn...'

'Oh..?'

'Yeah. He said she got the fright of her life. Some bloody kid hid inside her wheelie bin; jumped out when she when she was taking the rubbish down the garden path.' Ross shook his head regretfully. 'She's always had a week heart apparently, and well, Paul said she's not out of the woods yet.'

'Fucking kids!' Evelyn shook her head as she lifted a ladle full of punch to her nose. The grey-green consumption had a weird, botanical smell to it however, and she quickly put it back.

'Yeah. It's a horrible prank to play. I really don't know what gets inside some of these nutters' heads.' Ross replied before turning his attention to the punch. 'Chad made it.' He said in way of a warning. 'I'd be careful.'

Evelyn nodded her understanding. She knew from experience to expect the unexpected when dealing with anything to do with their Quebecois teammate.

'So when do you fly out to the old Brinemouth?' It was the elephant in the room, somehow, even though they were at her leaving party. Evelyn knew she was going to be missed, and not just her on-field exploits, her calming influence too. This must have been how a parent felt before leaving her teenage sons at home to go on holiday, in full knowledge that all hell was about to break loose.

'I'll probably go to Schottia first for a bit, see my mum and dad.' Evelyn shrugged. 'I guess I'll head out there towards the end of the week, I really need to book my tickets actually.' They both turned at the sound of voices in the hallway outside, the first of the guest were about to arrive.

'When does pre-season start in Nephara?' Ross asked quickly, realising that the time for sensible conversation was rapidly coming to an end. Chad and Luis sounded like they had already been drinking: heavily.

'I don't know actually.' Evelyn furrowed her brow in embarrassment. 'I've really not been on the ball. I should text someone like Jenny or Chloe, and see if they know.' She was going to miss her old teammates, too. They had been through so much: two league titles, the quarter final of the Globe Cup, and they had done it all against the odds. Achieving something with a big club was likely satisfying in its own right, but Evelyn doubted she would quite have this same feeling again. There was also Paul Thompson, whom she rescued from a smouldering golf buggy; and Ross, Ross Renshaw, who had somehow become her little brother in her time here.

'You never know, we might meet you again in the Globe Cup.' Ross exhaled a snort of laughter. 'Once we inevitably get pumped out of the Champions' Cup at the first hurdle. It must be nice not having to go through the qualifiers with Brinemouth?'

'We've made it through the qualifiers the last two years running.' Evelyn still hadn't gotten out of the habit of referring to Coast as We, proof the move hadn't sunk in. Ross was right though, Evelyn had checked, and the Dockers had indeed secured the first Globe Cup spot, which meant safe passage to the group phase. Ross had this incredible, encyclopaedic knowledge of football - not just in Port Christopher and Schottia, but almost all the main UICA accredited associations. He could tell you were every club had finished, in nearly ever tier of every league. 'You don't know who the club will get in with the money, Ross, you could end up strengthening in a few areas out of this.'

'Meh.' Ross rolled his eyes in defeat. 'We had a six million bid for Marcos Zelaya rejected already, I really don't hold out much hope that anyone is going to come here. Chad apparently heard from him.' He shrugged off Evelyn's look of sympathy, and she couldn't blame him, it was a little patronising coming from someone in her position. 'I dunno... maybe I'll be off on my travels next year too...'

'Yeah...' Evelyn tried to work out the tone in his voice. A move would most certainly be a good thing for him, and after his performance at the IAC, it would be perfect timing. Everyone in Port Christopher talked about leaving - all the time - it was almost the main topic of conversation. Not just footballers, everyone. The Island was too hot, too humid, too artificial, and just too small to live a full life.

'Hey, it's Magic! Luis Felipe made his way over to where the pair were stood, giving both the young Schottians unsolicited hugs. Magic was yet the latest mind numbingly unimaginative nickname Evelyn seemed to have acquired - and it was one thing she wasn't going to miss. 'CHAD! CHADY! CHAD! CHAD! CHADY! CHAD!' Luis bellowed back across the hall of the Ocean Shores Stadium function room. 'THIS GIRL DOESN'T HAVE A FUCKIN BEER! BRING TWO!'

There was little choice bet have a drink, at least it was now the off-season. Perhaps she would wait until most of them were too inebriated to notice, and sneak out through the fire escape. There was a good book, sat on a yoga mat in her summerhouse, with her name on it.

'Hey.' A heft open palm hit Evelyn slap bang between the shoulder blades. 'I reckon you'll be regretting this decision soon enough.' Lucio Sylvestre stood grinning from ear to ear, a bottle of beer in each hand. Lucio did this weird thing, where he always ordered two of every drink, and drank them both at the same time. Evelyn had never been sure if it were a cultural thing, or whether he just didn't like walking up and down from the bar. 'This time next year well be higher than Brinemouth in the UICA coefficients, and you'll be begging to come back!'

The Esportivan couldn't say it with a straight face, and the group all shared in a long hard laugh. It was one that Evelyn desperately needed, with those accompanying endorphins, which you can actually feel softening tense muscles. There were no hard feelings here, and why should there be. They were all proud of her; one of there own heading off to the top association in the world.

Talking Points
@ Shadow B'betsy National Stadium - Azoth, Ceni

Hello and welcome to Mercedini Sports Daily on a fairly windy day here in Ceni. We have made our way up to Azoth for the first in our new series of publication entitles 'Talking Points', which was totally not stolen from one of the local sporting magazines here in Ceni. It will be a series dedicated to either the big questions or the trending topics related to Mercedinian and International Sport. With the transfer window now closed, there only one name that MPL fans are talking about and that is 19-year old, national team regular, Ben Chillotov. He was sent out on loan here in Azoth last season and made an immediate impact on the fans, and he has made his trip permanent with a $17,000,000 move from his hometown club of Hoventon & Corlington Town. Whether he can repeat his first season heroics will be another subject entirely, but we will analyse his rise to stardom in this opening publication of Talking Points.

How Good Is Ben Chillotov?

Sold to Azoth for $17,000,000

In the most recent transfer window, he was the talk of the town (and the rest of the nation), where was the 19-year old superstar going to? It was reported that clubs were bidding up to $22,000,000 for the teenager who had proved himself as a regular starter for the national team, but it was apparent that 1860 Azoth became close to the young striker's heart after a successful loan spell at the club which saw him claim multiple awards and secured the clubs most recent league victory and the advancement to the Champion's Cup. After negotiation with the bidding clubs, Chillotov completed his second move to Azoth, but this time is was permanent with Hoventon & Corlington Town making $17,000,000 from the transfer, a new MPL outgoing record.

It is amazing to see such a young talent delivering on the big stage domestically and nationally, but what caused this young Mercedinian's star to rise is a mystery, and the question of whether he is a flash in the pan remains to be answered. We will go through his rise to stardom and discuss where he can go from here, and raising different talking points about his past, present and future actions.

After impressing at his local school in Hoventon, he was snapped up my his hometown club in Hoventon & Corlington Town. Being a life-long supporter of the club, he took the opportunity of playing for the biggest team in the area with both hands and showed potential managers and agents what he was made of, playing a starring role in many youth regional championships for his side at U14, U16, and U18 level before bypassing the U21 side and moving into the full senior side at age 18. At this point, he was already on the radars of many clubs, domestically and internationally as he was proving his worth in the national side, scoring goals for fun and combining well with his strike partner, Sgt. Sam Billic, eleven years his elder, with Mercedini rising quickly up the World Rankings, it was only a matter of time until talented Mercedinians went abroad looking for more competitive football at teams who were realistically looking to claim a UICA trophy. When the MPL came around, Chillotov was once again at the forefront of H&CT's charge up the table, with him scoring 22 goals, the second highest in the league behind AFC Langtree's Dimitri Lamorka. The following season he was sent out on loan to try his hand at football in a foreign country, his signature was claimed by 1860 Azoth who had always been in and around the UICA places, but never managed to reach the pinnacle of Cenian and, indeed, Terranean League football. He joined the team in a league which already had familiar Mercedinian faces one the books: Billic, Kraljic and Polasic had all made their way to Ceni prior to Chillotov's transfer, which meant there was plenty of friends who he could seek advice and guidance from when he arrived in Ceni. And that's where we're up to in the story of Ben Chillotov, his loan move has been made permanent which can only be a good thing for the youngsters career, he will likely be part of the Mercedinian National Team for many years to come, but Chillotov fans and now Azoth fans will hope the move will benefit both parties and it commences a new chapter in this young striker's career.

However, the question on everyone's mind is 'Was the $17,000,000 price tag worth it?', there has been plenty of discussion on team forums questioning the abilities of the youngster, and whether it will be his national form or his domestic form that is transferred to his permanent move at Azoth. At his previous club, he was rather isolated due to his prolific scoring form for the national team, which meant he was man marked by many of his opponents which forced the young striker to move into positions he isn't familiar with. Despite having a decent team around him at Hoventon, he lacked the support he had in the national team and during his prior loan spell at Azoth, this has led many to question his individual ability when in a team which doesn't have a second striker or a developed midfield, which is what Chillotov uses to get himself in dangerous positions. Since H&CT doesn't have the likes of Billic, nor do they have the squad depth which is rife in the Terranean League East. It meant Hoventon could only finish mid-table, despite Chillotov scoring 22 goals for the duration of the season, ranking second behind AFC Langree's Dimitri Lamorka.

Plenty of eyes will be on the starlet's shoulders when he moves to Azoth, including current national team manager Lyndainium (who is a native of Ceni) and youth managers for the U21 team who will be focusing hard on prospective players for the upcoming Di Bradini Cup. He currently holds the title as the most expensive Mercedinian ever, eclipsing the former record holder in talismanic striker Billic by $2,000,000 in the most recent transfer window. He has won the young player of the year award for the past to seasons, first in the MPL and most recently in the TLE. For his age he has plenty of experience, and is set to become the next generation of frontline strikers, his partnership with current Handon United striker Daniel Dostalok is blossoming in the youth team, so when Billic passes his throne onto the next main striker, it will be up to those two to continue the Mercedinian legacy.

In the end, it's up to you to decide whether it was money well spent or money down the drain. Chillotov will say his final goodbyes to his team and his family before departing to make Azoth his home for the coming season. He will most likely keep his spot on the National Youth and Senior teams as long as he remains eligible to compete in those competitions, it's just a case of in what capacity. There's no doubt that he is the future of Mercedinian football, and everyone who is a fan of Mercedinian football will wish him well at his time at his new club.
