[The United Union ONLY] Regional Roleplaying Worldbuilding

Welcome to the Regional Roleplay Worldbuilding Thread of the United Union! This post shall serve to be a room for planning. This is not the out-of-character (OOC) thread; that will be established later. Use your replies to suggest mechanics, pacing, and player application layout; create maps, geological compositions, and climate zones of the world; establish foreign relations, consequences of artificial and natural disasters, and internationally-spread political ideologies; collaborate on treaties, alliances, and international missions. I will keep adding content to this main post, but I will remove controversial ideas should many people disagree with suggestions. This thread will be more-or-less democratically run; let's make this a brainchild of the region as a whole!

This regional roleplay will be Cold-War themed. The starting year is yet to be decided.

RULES


No powergaming
•Godmoding falls under this. An example of this would be if someone had a ‘super elite division of troops that took down a force of 100,000 soldiers comprising of tanks, artillery divisions, etc. with no losses’
•Metagame also falls under this. This means do not use outside knowledge that otherwise would not be known by your characters and use it to your advantage. An example of this would be if an opponent developed a technology secretly and then you somehow know that it was already developed, etc.
•Powerplaying falls under this as well. Which means you're deciding for other role players what happens. What makes roleplay fun for everyone is the openness of the possibilities. Which means if I attack an opponent with a small scale invasion on one of their territories, I can't say “Nation sends 1000 troops and takes everything over” in one go. There should be a window of response and you shouldn't decide what will happen for them.
•Retconning is an important rule to follow in roleplay. And for realism’s sake it should be in place. This means that you should respect what happened in history. Don't pretend or ignore what happened in roleplay. As in if your capital was torn down to pieces by an opponent, don't pretend like it's still a bustling city unaffected by war.

This is mostly about fair-play. Don't tip the balance of the world and realism to give you an advantage to win or have an edge.
A person may have no more than one nation on the map.
•This is in place so that people don't enter their puppets to give them an edge.
Respect roleplaying time.
•Respecting time in roleplay means you should understand that mobilizing troops, resources, building factories, researching takes time and none of it is instantaneous.
Respect the moderation.
•When an issue arises, someone will have to make decisions to help resolve that and that will be the job of the officers assigned to maintaining fair play in the roleplay. Please respect their decisions and if you find that something has been resolved unfairly then respectfully telegram us and refrain from causing a scene.
Don't harass other players.
•Please provide a mature and professional manner when it comes to roleplaying. Nobody wants to see or receive harassment from other players.
Stay in character.
•Please refrain from doing OOC (out of character) conversations or posts in the roleplay thread. This is to ensure quality and on-task roleplay.

RP violations will vary from a warning to ejection from RP which will be the most extreme case and most likely will not happen as long as everyone stays reasonable.

Of course, more rules will be made later on when more dynamics and features of the roleplay are put in place

Description of the Planet


This is where our planet, isolated from human matters, will be described. Things that are needed for this section to be complete:
1.Name of planet
2.Maps (Harmonic Empire is currently mapping out the basic land forms of the planet. You can collaborate with him through TG or here.)
-Name of map projection
-Map indicating large concentrations of natural resources
-Physical Maps (Climate, vegetation, etc)
-Political Map
3.Material composition (Percentages of elements found in the planet)
4.Surrounding heavenly bodies (Suns, moons, rings, etc)
5.Size

General Timeline of the World


This will include major events, such as periods of colonization, rises and falls of large empires, world wars, plagues, and technological breakthroughs that pushed forward major social changes. This will also establish a general background for international relations.

List of the World's Countries


Self explanatory. Links to factbooks will be posted under nation names, or in lieu of that a short paragraph describing the concerned nation's more interesting aspects.

Looks good for an application. What do you think about limitations or restrictions on the development or use of biological, chemical and nuclear warfare? Or should we leave it mostly unrestricted?

Also, should we set a reasonable maximum economic power on nations? That way we all build up into powerhouses rather than starting out as one? If so, how will we figure out the dynamics of that?

For the nukes and weapons, i say let treaties figure that out. If people want to stand against nukes, things like the UN and Geneva Conference can happen (maybe not with those names, lol)

I say that each country starts with a 100,000,000 gdp, a small but good start (can decrease if the country is lead horribly) also, i will be randomly generating materials once the map is completed.

Yes, people can set their nation history here and develop pre-determined relations with nations who are applied and accepted.

If we are to make global income logarithmic, how will we determine who is rich and who is not?

Also, what do you think about the involvement or the conduct we should use for regions in the map that aren't occupied by a player? Are they NPC regions and who will run them?

We can determine who is rich or not ( at the start) by giving the rich status to nations who promise to post more frequently, so their currency can circulate around the world faster. The poorer nations, since they're not playing with so much money, don't need to post as much.

I think the blank spots on the map should be filled with anarchy, but should be avoided as much as possible so future players can join with fleshed-out history. If we can't, then we can make a piece of blank land an NPC nation controlled by everyone.

Name: The Holy Empire of the Halakha
Population and Demographics: 49 million
Capital City: Yerushalayim
Government Style:Theocratic Plutocratic Autocracy- Only the seven richest nuclear families can mate with the Emperor. The Emperor must appoint a heir, and he must only pick the offspring of the seven families or his own child. The Emperor has absolute power, and his word is law. He has a responsibility to not only protect his nation, but also keep it holy. In recent times, this status quo became cemented in the Holy Imperial Constitution.
Resources, Trade, and Economy:The nation is almost laissez-faire were it not for religious laws such as those banning pork consumption, business on the Shabbat, and mixed fabrics. The Halakha also enforces environmentalism and animal rights to a degree. The economy is diversified, although some areas are lacking due to religious consumer behavior.
Brief History: The roots of the Holy Empire of the Halakha (HEH) dates to 1300 BCE. A dissatisfied Jewish population in the (insert region here), a province of the ancient Zekaryan Empire, rebelled during a time of internal strife and bankruptcy. The Midntkevedish rose to prominence, uniting all Jews and committing holy war against all heretics. Adara, King of Midntkevedish, conquered hundreds of miles of land and converted thousands of pagans to Judaism. Religious laws maintained believer retention and a strong Mdntkvdshan identity. Large monumental temples were built as more taxpayers entered the kingdom. With Midntkevedish being at the crossroads of continental trade, it became richer and richer. The opulence would soon prove to be Midntkevedish's downfall, and powerful upstart rivals formed coalitions to wage war against the kingdom. in 800BC the Arcean Empire conquered Midntkevedish and looted its rich cities. The Arcean Empire became powerful with its trade revenue, but ambitious nobles seeking greater shares in the wealth caused internal strife. For the millennia onwards, a continuous cycle of rising from ashes and being conquered existed for the Jewish state identity. The Holy Empire of the Halakha is a product of it, but its rulers now seek to control the entire continent to break the cycle through military force.
Military Description: There are only two branches: the Holy Army and the Holy Navy. The military is large due to the Halakha being currently engaged in war. 600,000 personnel, 6,000 combat vehicles, 900 aircraft, 120 ships.

National Religion: Presbyterianism

Social Ideology: Minarchism

Economic Policy: Laissez-Faire

Enemies: None, but a somewhat disliking of Secularists, and a hatred of Communists

Allies: None, but a special Preference for Jews, Christians, and anyone who believes in the Free Market

History: Acelandinisia was founded on the Foundation of Democracy. Originally, it was just a Democracy founded in 1600 AD after the fall of Finsindia, A Constitutional Monarchy. However, Religion swept the country at the same time of Laissez-Faire and Limited Government. The Church and Government became 2 differeny entities. However, in 1930, The Pope became president of the country, and made the official religion Presbyterianism. It would not be forced, however, most laws became Christian themed. Until recently in 2010, Libertarianism overthrew Christian Values, and Minarchism was adapted. The laws have changed to more Liberal views on things like drugs and incest laws. However, Conservative views like gun rights have also become present. Eventually, President Hosev Kerro-Pekki decided to keep the national religion the same, but also gave people freedom to vote on laws, rendering the "Theocracy" useless. The country has minimal government interference, it is ranked one of the most Politicaly Tense, yet most stable area on the planet. Freedom of speech is large. Laws regarding Racism ended in the 1700s, and slavery was never picked up. Most people believe all men and women are created ewual. However, the country has a large poor population, and income equality is almost nonexistent. Their is no minimum wage, however, the Chaos Ammendment allows the destruction of property of buildings if the Corporation does not pay, and abuses civil rights. Proper registration needs to be filled out before destruction can commence. Corruption is almost non existent, as the government purges itself 2 times a year, removing corrupted officials, and replacing thrm wuth democratically elected officials. Government Funding is very limited, but so are taxes. People have high standards of living due to most people esrning $170,000 a year (which isnt too much in real life, but keep in mind, taxes are incredibly lax). Crime is definatly high, but Militarized Police often stop criminals before they can get away. Trials are held with 13 jury members, and every person is supplied with a lawyer if they do not have one. Literacy is high with the "Learn One, Teach Another" policy, which encourages people to share their knowledge with others, in exchange for cash. The national language is Finnish, with a lot of people also knowing German, Serbian, and Irish. Th Capital is Frazensinki, named after Franz Klensinki, founder of the republic.

Name: Dronning Maud

Population and Demographics: 39 million

Capital City: Urusalima

Government Style: Revolutionary Republic

Resources, Trade, and Economy: Currently has many protectionist policies protecting products made in Dronning Maud with high tariffs placed on foreign imports. There is a huge smuggling ring with foreign imports and it is largely ignored and not enforced by the government.

Brief History: The overall history of Dronning Maud dates back to the unification of the nomadic tribes of Maud. In 567 CE, a warlord named Abu Raghib assassinated his brother to claim his military forces and land through inheritance and conquered the neighboring tribes into submission. The ambition was the conquer all of (insert region here) under the rule of the Raghib Dynasty. It was unsuccessful due to internal strife between the eight tribes. In 1647, a major civil war occurred splitting the Kingdom apart with two large clans the Raghib Dynasty and the Kindah dynasty. Ultimately the Kindah Dynasty won the bloody conflict and has been ruling since.

The Republic of Dronning Maud was recently formed during the victorious revolution led by Prince Anwar Kindah against his own mother, Queen Ataliah, charging her with crimes against the people due to the recent Agrarian Crisis causing recurring food shortages leaving many people disgruntled and starving, also the mismanagement of state funds that has been leading the Kingdom to bankruptcy due to spending too much on erecting massive monuments and memorials of the nobility instead of building infastructure and growing the economy. Prince Anwar promised to free the people from the oppressive rule of monarchy and has led the people as Counsilor Anwar but is still largely called "Prince Anwar".

Military Description: 900,000 personnel consisting of many irregulars, 3200 combat vehicles, 300 aircraft, 90 naval ships. The military is considerably large due to the current internal conflict and seems to involve more populations as it escalates further.

Misc.: 65% of the land consisting of 21 million of Dronning Maud is controlled by Prince Anwar's revolutionaries while the rest is controlled by Queen Ataliah. 5% of the population is involved in the conflict as combat personnel for either side and is predicted to reach roughly 10% at the peak of the war.

Seems mutally beneficial. Lets start off as Trade Partners, as my army is basically just a Militarized and Highly Trained Police Force. If im doing offense, it will usually be in the form of paid militias/mercenarys. How will i sustain my country? A militarized police force and a populace that is well armed.

The term for a militarized police is a Gendarmery

Honestly, I’m against the idea of having enemies listed. It seems unrealisitic. Fornthe application, we could add ‘Autonomous Application, Revolutionary Application etc etc. On the other note, we should make a Role-Play Dictionary Section, where our role-play is listed there, then we could add ‘News Thread’ where we post news on the event of your nation that way it’s more realistic.

I could add an autonomous and faction application. May you propose a code? I am not in control of the dictionary- you'll need to ask a politician. A news thread seems like a great idea, but with our current level of activity I don't think it is feasible. I think in our region, a 1post/2week quota is fine, and news can be put in the IC.

Enemies in the app is totally realistic. It's not just military enemies- it's just other nations and factions that are opposing your interests. The section is added to also nudge players into interacting with others. I have been in roleplays where some focused too much on domestic matters rather than international ones.

I could add an autonomous and faction application. May you propose a code? I am not in control of the dictionary- you'll need to ask a politician. I will refuse to accept the enemy section to me, it's not needed to add, you could add this into your own factbook. Take a look at Tianshan account.
