[Burma/Myanmar] Rohingya genocide/ethnic cleansing scandal

Postby Minoa » Mon Sep 11, 2017 4:19 am

Sources: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-41224108 and http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-41187517

This is a disgrace in my opinion, especially when a Nobel Peace Prize laureate is acting too slowly to respond to clearly accurate reports of ethnic cleansing against the Rohingya Muslims. If I recall correctly, the military junta stepped aside last year.

Even the BBC has caught it all on camera: there is no denying that: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-41189564

What are your thoughts on this?

Edit: I’m going to use both terms because it seems genocide and ethnic cleansing are being used interchangeably (source, source and source), but neither seems to downplay the fact that it is still repression against people solely on the basis of their religion.

Sounds like an internal issue to me. So nothing to see here, move along.

I think that it's a disgrace for a Nobel Peace Prize winner to be so quick in dismissing the Rohinya's pain and suffering as some issues or protests. It was all lies, when she said that she would defend democracy and humans. So in our Highness's point of view, the Rohinyas are not humans just because they are from a different race and religion. Shame on you Ms Aung San Syu Kyi

Can someone be de-Nobel Prized? This is extremely unacceptable from someone who is supposed to be an example of the good of humankind.

As for the genocide, it boggles the mind how people can do that sort of shit to other people. So much cruelty and hate.

What a world we live in that not instantly jumping on the outrage bandwagon without carefully examining things is reason for condemnation...

There's literally photographic and video evidence of genocide. How can you see clear pictures of burning villages and then downplay it?

It's only genocide after it has been declared such by the relevant authorities such as the UN human rights thing as opposed to the BBC.

Genocide is not the same as killing people. It's killing people as part of a deliberate organized effort to exterminate the group they belong to. You can show me all the corpses you want but you have not shown a single shred of evidence for intent.

TIL thousands of dead Rohingya + a complicit Nobel Prize winner + Buddhist extremists egging the government on =/= evidence of genocide.

It may not be genocide yet, but it should be obviously clear to anybody looking at it that the Rohingya are being persecuted for being Rohingya.

Nobody, at l;east in the western Allies, believed the true extent of the Holocaust until they liberated the camps. Doesn't mean that the Holocaust wasn't an actual genocide before that point.

See this is one of the reasons why I scoff every time someone brings up Buddhism as a religion that's "good".

So we're passing judgement based on the actions of extremists within the government and military?

Pretty sure that people who do that don't limit themselves judging one religion.

Using this an example that no religion is any better than the other when it comes to wielding fundamentalism.

Got to have a good long think about whether it's bad for all these people to be killed and raped and driven from their homes.

Well let's look at the qualifications...
"1: Are they in a European Country?"
No

"2. Are they white/European ethnic?"
No

"3. Are they Christian?"
No.

"4. Have they been on the news?"
No/Very little

"Results: Not a 'real' genocide"

A fucking travesty.

Unfortunately the Nobel Committee has already clarified that there are no take-backsies.

Not as such, no. Neither Nobel's will nor the operating rules of the committee provide any mechanism for the removal of the award.

Well now we only have one choice: invent time travel, and send an agent back in time to kill Nobel and assume his place, just to have a clause of Nobel Prize revocation.

Honestly. it's a fucking embarrasment that at the 21st century, there are still people who kill, torture, rape, and drive away others based on race, religion, or anything.

The Fact that the Western world hasn't done anything (Beyond writing witty editorials about it) is not much of a surprise however.
