The gameworld draws inspiration from fantasy realms depicted in popular media. Game of Thrones/ASOIAF, Dark Souls and the Souls' series of games, and the Witcher series (particularly the lattermost) are sources of inspiration for the lands and realm. In a medieval world dominated by familial dynasties vying for power and dominance in the Castion's feudal pecking order, characters will do all that they can to advance their position or further their goals. It's up to the players how these narratives carry themselves and the direction they go, as well as how they intertwine with the many other stories playing out across the continent.
Some basic tidbits and background to go off of when building your lore:
*Magic exists, but is looked down upon. It's rare, it's dangerous and highly unpredictable, with not much actually being known about it. Magic users are ridiculed and often killed in most realms, and especially in the countryside of most countries, the commonfolk burn suspected witches and mages for they fear what they cannot understand. That is, however, unless the magic user is a sun-praising monk or nun in service to the Church of Astor. Otherwise they are an apostate, and must flee vicious persecution to places more accepting of such.
*As magic does exist, so do non-human races as well. Dwarves and elves inhabit the world, but are few in number compared to the humans that inhabit Castion. It's possible there are some dwarven or elven kingdoms that still exist far in the Londo mountain range, or deep Black Forest, but most non-human kingdoms exist only in tales of yore, when they were destroyed by growing human empires and civilizations. Today, most non-human are treated as scum and forced to live in slums and ghettos. This isn't the case for every realm, and it isn't uncommon for a king to have a long-bearded dwarven master of mint or militia, or even an elven minstrel to compose songs in his name...
*Monsters of this world exist, as do fanatic religious knight orders that quell them. The smallfolk are fearful of what goes bump-in-the-night, and thus look to the Templars to do often what the king's soldiers are not equipped to handle. Types of monsters include flesh-eating undead "hollows", monstrous sea krakens that can crush ships in a single blow, and all sorts of hellish horrors that plague the common man who wanders too deep into the woods at night...
*Life is largely reminiscent to how it was in the medieval times. Common levied footmen do not charge into battle in full plate armour, and there are no battlemages wreaking havoc and chaos with fireballs and lightning strikes. There are no Da Vinci-esque flying machines dropping bombs, either, or dragons flying across the skies and destroying scores of men in one go. Battle and combat, as well as daily life for the common folk and for the nobles in their high-walled castles, existed largely like they did in real life. There are fantasy elements that exist, but it's more so in the sense that the fables they came from just so happened to be... true!
We are a very new character role-playing and worldbuilding region founded as part of a breakaway-side project to Aeia, a modern-tech roleplaying region. Castion's base comes from an established group of roleplayers, and we're looking to expand and invite others to join in on the fun! We are open to all, whether you are an NS newcomer or veteran, however we do require previous RP experience for those wishing to take more important roles in the region. Much of our activity takes place on the NS forums, IIWiki and regional Discord.
If you are interested in joining our regional RP, consider filling out an application form below and posting it within this thread.
Before you consider constructing an application, please take a look at these maps:

Applications should aim to be realistic; nations creating utopian or joke applications will be disregarded.
A lack of activity on Castion Discord, IIWiki, and RP will result in the removal of your nation from the map. If you will be absent for a prolonged period of time, please contact a member of the regional administration and your map claim will be held.
