Sun and Steel is a war role play set in Future Tech, where the plucky Bakrans will be facing off against multiple invaders on the arid world of Muranis. The vast deserts of the planet will be the site of battles, the orbit above host to space fleet engagements, and the people of Muranis taking part in the slaughter to defend their home. Warfare on the ground will be everywhere from the fortresses, cities, and arid wasteland to the orbital shipyards, space ports, and habitats. Intrigue will exist, with spies and mercenaries joining the fray either for profit or patriotism. This is all out war for the planet Muranis, with the ashes mixing in with the endless sands.
Muranis, the jewel of the Setsko system. Originally colonize by the Bakrans decades ago, Muranis was thought to be a lost cause to many empires, with its scathingly hot days and cold nights anathema to colonial development. The Bakrans nevertheless created Muranis as it is today, erecting large cities in the harsh desert sands and automated foundries on the planet's large mesas. Hydroponics farms were built underground, harvesting moisture from the air above or what little seeped into the ground to feed the burgeoning population. Thus Muranis became a beacon of Bakran industry and influence in the Milky Way galaxy.
Not all is well on the arid planet. Archeologists have uncovered artifacts from an ancient alien civilization, who appeared to have occupied this planet several million years ago. Though information on the exact contents of their finds are sparse, it is clear that these artifacts are of great technological importance and can prove to be a boon to anyone who occupies the planet. The country and the planet is prepared for an attack against those who seek to plunder this artifacts, but welcomes those who seek to stand side-by-side and defend Muranis with them.
The usual rules apply, and if you are on Nationstates you should know them so I won't go over them. There are only two things I wish to have special attention paid to: the word of the OP and variety. The first is very straightforward, the word of the OP is law around here, although I don't expect to exercise this very often except to guide the story as a whole. The second is more of a creative guide than a rule, but essentially be unique; don't be one of the many xenophobic genocidal maniacs or fanatical crusaders in the RP. These are just examples of course, the point is I'm looking for distinct factions with different agenda and ideals.
The fight for the planet of Muranis will be a hard one, and I will fight for every inch of the planet; I am not giving it up for the sake of the game. That being said, I will be fair even if it means shooting myself in the foot, but I will be very reluctant to give up the planet so you will want to pry me off of it. The Bakrans are very resilient fellows and extremely territorial, so expect stiff resistance from both the military and the populace.
Don't be afraid to fight amongst yourselves. I expect some backstabbing from my allies and enemies, player generated intrigue as well as from myself, and random variables being thrown into the equation. If things get too boring or bland, I may throw in something to spice things up.
Most of all, have fun.

If you would like to be a spy and/or have a spy on Muranis before/during your invasion, please use the following application. These spots are limited and I'll be pretty choosy with these. This is only for invaders

The Bakrans aren't in the habit of letting allies go to waste, so many of those defending with them are allowed to set up and maintain bases on the planet Muranis before the shooting starts. If you are a defender you may establish a base on the planet or in orbit.

As stated earlier, Muranis is a heaping pile of sand, first and foremost. There does exist mesas, plateaus, dried up lakebeds, cavern systems, underground lakes, etc. Some of the more notable natural formations will be listed, such as mountain ranges and the very few large above ground lakes, but assume the rest is arid desert of one form or another. Major cities and fortresses will be mapped out. There are many, many more smaller forts, towns, and other points of interest that aren't listed here but appear on the map. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
