The last beams of sunlight fade away in the distance as 2 allied transport planes fly over the cliffs of Dover, slowly ascending to safe altitudes.
"Listen up Gentleman!... and, of course... brave Ladies!" - Barked Colonel Weynes his end of the plane, standing by the glaring red light, signaling its not time yet to jump... - "Since I could not find anyone trustworthy or sufficiently skilled among you to lead this operation, I have decided to join this rag-tag team myself directly command you from the field!"
"I understand some of you have never used a parachute before, which is now that I think of it could be a major issue, so In what little time we have left before we reach the LZ, I will teach you some of the basics. Listen closely, as this knowledge might save your lives!"
- He said, before beginning his 13 minute presentation on the proper use of parachutes and finding the best places to land.
The plane has already crossed the channel by the time he finished. - "That other plane you see flying next to us" - he continued, while pointing at the other transport - "Its taking part in another covert operation. I'm not authorized to let you in on the details, besides, we should focus on our own mission, but always check your fire and be on the lookout for friendlies, in case we run into them! - He added.
The colonel took out a small map from his backpack and studied it carefully for a few seconds before continuing - "We must find the mailman... sadly, we have very little information about his whereabouts, but we do know that he maintained close contacts with the local resistance, which is strong in numbers. Our first objective should be to establish contact with them. Intelligence reports tha... what the ..." - He paused as several beams of white light erupted from the French countryside. Soon, more followed, brightly illuminating the night sky...
"Bloody hell! I told the airforce to stay clear of the area this night!" - The colonel screamed. German Anti-Aircraft fire soon littered the troposphere, and the transports begun diverting from their planned routes to make themselves a harder target. - "That wanker Alrich must have overruled my orders..." - He then mumbled to himself.
It wasn't long before one of the German spotlights stumbled upon the OSS transports, the nearby guns immediately opened fire. - "They're onto us!" - A pilot screamed from the cockpit.
Moments later, a loud explosion shook the aircraft, carving out an enormous hole on the plane's hull, just opposite the open front door where Weynes was standing. He fell off the plane, although he had a parachute of his own, he might have been unconscious or badly injured due to the powerful blast. Meanwhile, another shell hit one of the engines, setting them on blazing fire. However, the plane endured both strikes and flew on, into the cover of a nearby cloud. A minute or so late, the cloud was left behind and the Germans have lost track of the transports.
"Falaise right ahead!" - A pilots screamed again from the cockpit and the red light besides the doorway was replaced by a green one. - "Go, go, go before this thing falls apart!" - They shouted. It was time to jump...
