August 20th, 1943
2003 hrs

The last beams of sunlight fade away in the distance as 2 allied transport planes fly over the cliffs of Dover, slowly ascending to safe altitudes.

"Listen up Gentleman!... and, of course... brave Ladies!" - Barked Colonel Weynes his end of the plane, standing by the glaring red light, signaling its not time yet to jump... - "Since I could not find anyone trustworthy or sufficiently skilled among you to lead this operation, I have decided to join this rag-tag team myself directly command you from the field!"

"I understand some of you have never used a parachute before, which is now that I think of it could be a major issue, so In what little time we have left before we reach the LZ, I will teach you some of the basics. Listen closely, as this knowledge might save your lives!"
- He said, before beginning his 13 minute presentation on the proper use of parachutes and finding the best places to land.

The plane has already crossed the channel by the time he finished. - "That other plane you see flying next to us" - he continued, while pointing at the other transport - "Its taking part in another covert operation. I'm not authorized to let you in on the details, besides, we should focus on our own mission, but always check your fire and be on the lookout for friendlies, in case we run into them! - He added.

The colonel took out a small map from his backpack and studied it carefully for a few seconds before continuing - "We must find the mailman... sadly, we have very little information about his whereabouts, but we do know that he maintained close contacts with the local resistance, which is strong in numbers. Our first objective should be to establish contact with them. Intelligence reports tha... what the ..." - He paused as several beams of white light erupted from the French countryside. Soon, more followed, brightly illuminating the night sky...

"Bloody hell! I told the airforce to stay clear of the area this night!" - The colonel screamed. German Anti-Aircraft fire soon littered the troposphere, and the transports begun diverting from their planned routes to make themselves a harder target. - "That wanker Alrich must have overruled my orders..." - He then mumbled to himself.

Image

It wasn't long before one of the German spotlights stumbled upon the OSS transports, the nearby guns immediately opened fire. - "They're onto us!" - A pilot screamed from the cockpit.

Moments later, a loud explosion shook the aircraft, carving out an enormous hole on the plane's hull, just opposite the open front door where Weynes was standing. He fell off the plane, although he had a parachute of his own, he might have been unconscious or badly injured due to the powerful blast. Meanwhile, another shell hit one of the engines, setting them on blazing fire. However, the plane endured both strikes and flew on, into the cover of a nearby cloud. A minute or so late, the cloud was left behind and the Germans have lost track of the transports.

"Falaise right ahead!" - A pilots screamed again from the cockpit and the red light besides the doorway was replaced by a green one. - "Go, go, go before this thing falls apart!" - They shouted. It was time to jump...

HINTS
Suggested actions for first post:
- Jump as soon as possible above the planned LZ, a small wheat field next to Falaise -
- Jump later, as the plane flies over the town -
- Jump after the plane flew over the town -
Also Possible, but not recommended
- Stay on board and do nothing. -
In case you are insane...
- Jump without a parachute -
- Attack the crew of the transport -

Please keep track of your inventory/abilities/stats inside a spoiler at the bottom of your post.
New Mechanics will be added to the game progresses. These will be also mentioned inside spoilers at the bottom of my own IC posts whenever they are relevant.

Nick O'Neil

Nick put on his parachute, and spoke with a slightly French accent acquired during his time in France. "Is this bird going to be able to make it back!? Is there anything I can do to help before I jump!?"

He stood at the door, ready to jump depending on the answer. His forehead was a bit sweaty from a fever he was developing.

"Don't you worry about us, mate!" - The pilot on the left said in a worried tone. - "The plane will get lighter after we drop you off, so hurry up!"

Meanwhile, the engine fire slowly petered out as the pilot on the right shut down the fuel valve.

"There's a good girl mate, we can fly back with one engine!"

Abby was not going to wait around while these men chit-chatted. "What are you idiots talking about JUMP!" she shouted as she jumped out of the plane into what was hopefully the fields of Falaise. When the time was right she immediately pulled out her parachute and floating gently across the skies of Europe.

Francine Riley

As the plane is exploding and people are preparing to jump out, Francine sprints over to the front of the plane, where the pilots are sitting. They were clearly trying, futilely, to get out of there in one piece. In a panic, Francine shouts at the main pilot "Move out the way, bitch!" While simultaneously attempting to wrestle the controls from him hands. Francine knew absolutely nothing about how to fly, though she figured she couldn't do worse than the current pilots. As quickly as possible, Francine tries to push random buttons, chaotically flip switches, and stupidly play with the controls, all while insisting the pilot step off. She figured that maybe, if she's stupidly lucky, the German AA would be so confused, they don't know what to do.

Leesa Winter

Leesa had prepared her stuff in advance a long time ago. Double wait... no triple checking her gear and the parachute. She payed attention to the presentation and the information given, making sure to memorize it just in case. When the guns struck the plane however all her mental preparations seemed to go out the hull of the airplane. She began shaking quite noticeably and her breathing became quite more rapid. While she became more calm as the guns seemed to stop firing at the transport she was still quite nervous.

She kept trying to go over the information she had memorized to try and calm her down, which sadly had little effect. Once the lights went green and the doors opened Leesa jumped out of this plane. She figured that it would be better to go down in the fields rather than in or after the town, and staying in the plane didn't seem smart. As she fell through the skies she hoped to god that this parachute worked and she would be able to control it to some degree.

Action - Jump out of the plane into the designated LZ with her stuff and parachute, hoping that this parachute works.

Abilities -
Medicine - Use medical equipment with significantly reduced chance of killing your patient
Stealth - You move like a shadow, in complete and deafening silence... Allows you to immediately hide upon observing nearby enemies, perform quiet takedown of isolated enemies and to sneak at the speed of 1 area per turn
Coward - Increased chance of gaining debilitating mental conditions

Gear - 100/100 Rp used, 16.2/20 Kg Used
Medical Kit - 10 Rp, 3 kg
Civilian Clothes - 0 Rp, 0 kg
Combat knife - 10 Rp, .5 kg
Garrote - 10 Rp, .2 kg
500 franks - 40 Rp, .5 kg
6 Ration packs - 30 Rp, 12 kg
Political Compass: Economic: -8.88 Social: -9.54

O'Neil plummeted towards the ground at an ever increasing speed. The ripcord system did not activate properly following his backward jump from the plane, and so his parachute remained closed. He would have to deploy it manually before he smashes into the ground.

Failure

O'Neil pulled the cord on his special backpack, but nothing happened. Looks like he the rigger of his parachute did a really sloppy job. It somehow got stuck inside.

Success (but just barely)

The ground was getting dangerously close. Nick had to manually pull out several layers of parachute before it finally opened properly and dampened his fall. He landed on the field with just barely not too much vertical velocity and managed to save himself from any injury.

Because he opened his parachute late, he arrived at the LZ minutes before the others. The field was completely deserted, aside from a few rolls of hay left over from the harvest. A quaint town, probably Falaise was just a kilometer away. There was also a road nearby accompanied by a row of trees and some telephone lines, also deserted.

The Colonel was nowhere to be seen.

Aart Eerkens:
Checking his gear one last time, ensuring that his radio was functioning, and his toolbox was equipped. His concealed revolver was securely in his holster, and thinking to himself "This is for The Netherlands", he stepped towards the open door. Before he jumped, he glanced around and noticed Mama wrestling with the controls. Walking to the cockpit, Aart dragged her away, "Come, we don't have much time." Explosions were rocking the plane back and forth. Guiding Francine to the hatch, Aart took one last look at her, and smiled. "Frau, I wish only the best of luck, to us all." With that, while holding her hand, he jumped. He looked back up, towards the plane that was streaming flame and smoke. With the wind whistling in his ears, and the stars above him, he felt at peace. "Mama, don't forget your chute!" AA flak was bursting all around, causing ghostly black puffs of smoke. He thought back to his childhood in South Africa, remembering the smoke signals he learned. Time seemed to slow, as an AA shell rocketed towards him. "Is this it for me? Please no, please no..." Aart Eerkens closed his eyes, and dove head first towards the shell. As he opened his eyes, the shell was close enough to read.
"Hamburg, Flak 8,8" Realizing that Aart would live, he yanked hard on the parachute cord, unfurling to the sweetest sound he'd thought he'd never heard. Thankfully, before the jump and the mission, Aart specifically requested his parachute made of black fabric, instead of white.

Gregor was out of the plane a bare second after it was hit, his first instinct of a member of an army which was definitely not led by Josef Stalin to look after his commanding officer. One couldn't go wrong following orders, after all.

Thus he didn't see any of the chaos in the plane, or hear the shouting. His jump was a little unsteady due to going out the explosion hole instead of a proper drop line, but the Russian had dealt with worse. Recovering his attitude quickly, Gregor espied the Colonel's plummeting form and quickly tucked in to a dive, gaining on the spiraling speck.

As he approached the Colonel, Gregor shifted his weight slightly, going in to a controlled spin with his attitude opposite that of the falling commander. Then he flared his arms, grabbed the man, and attempted to stabilize his descent.
Quite the unofficial fellow. Former P2TM Mentor specializing in faction and nation RPs, as well as RPGs. Always happy to help.

Eva Mueller

Eva sat alone and silent on the ride over the channel, not looking at her companions. She knew that some of them didn't trust her because of her heritage. She also knew she was going to have to kill some of her own people. The thought sickened her. Then the aircraft was shook by antiaircraft fire. Eva closed here eyes and imagined the young German boys down there, fighting a war that they didn't start. They were scared. She was scared. Why were try fighting each other?

Eva watched silently as the Colonel was blown out of the plane and quickly stood up right after that. She waited until a few operatives in front of her jumped before jumping and free falling towards the French landscape below, watching the twinkling lights of towns and AA batteries. Eva pulled her parachute cord and braced herself for impact.

A light breeze caught into Abby's parachute, dragging her away from the rest of the team. She was now above the outskirts of Falaise, next to a 2-story farmhouse. Before landing, Abby got a good look of the town from above. A large church stood in the middle, surrounded by a dozen or so townhouses. A small river cut the village in half, crossed by a narrow bridge.

As she landed, the distant sound of gunfire could still be, along with the barking of local dogs and the roar of an engine. A motorcycle passed by a nearby road, although Abby could not see where.

The farmhouse could be the home of a french family, as Abby could see light coming from a window upstairs, and smoke coming from the chimney, along with the appetising smell of confectionery...

"BLOODY HELL!" - The captain of the plane screams from the cockpit as out of nowhere, Francine turns off the engines, whacks the radio and even breaks the landing gear switch. - "Whats gotten into you woman? Get out of here!" - The other pilot says as he tries pushing the girl out of the cockpit, but its too late. The plane begins plummeting from the sky in a steep dive. While Francine and the 2nd pilot wrestle for control of the cockpit, the captain restarts the engines pulls the nose up in the last minute, almost scratching the treeline below.

In the end, Francine is pushed out of the cockpit and the door is closed behind her, then locked from inside.

At some point, the 2 of them drifted away and Danny landed a few hundred meters south, on top of a roll of hay. It was a pretty comfortable to drop onto. He could see both O'Neil and Leesa from the top of the hay stack, along with a gothic clocktower looming in the distance...

Aart could enjoyed the brief moment of solace following the incident of the plane, but the delayed jump meant he was not going to make it to the LZ. Instead, he was above a forest of particularly tall trees. It was quite dangerous to land at such a locale, however, he spotted several openings in the treeline thanks to the glaring moonlight towards which he could glide with his parachute.

One was a small lake with a small hut built on its bank. Another was a road, paved with asphalt. The third opening seemed to be some kind of stone ruin, perhaps that of an old castle.

Nick puts away his binoculars upon hearing the distant roar of the transport. Distant, yes, but not distant enough. The skies were dark, but he caught sight of a poorly-defined form grazing the treetops some distance away. Likely the transport he had just left.

"What was that all about?" he thought.

He saw a parachuting figure land close by, definitely one of his allies. Before doing anything, though, Nick hid his spent parachute in one of the haystacks, in case soldiers were sent to check the area in the morning.

Miraculously, Gregor has managed to grab onto the Colonel as the flew past each other. He was at the time still unconscious from the blast, but seemed to suffer no other injuries. Time was, however, running out fast. The 2 man were now halfway between the clouds and the fields of Northern France...

Eva's landing was somewhat delayed by the line before her. As a result, she arrived at another field nearby, one littered with corn. She did however know roughly where the others landed before her whilst hanging from the parachute and could make out the road leading to Falaise.

Nick would crouch low to the ground and take out his binoculars to get a closer look at his surroundings, if there was enough moonlight.

Leninist South Africa wrote:Aart Eerkens:
He landed with a soft thump on the ground.

"Let me go, goddamnit!" Francine shouted at Aart. With the pilot shoving her out of the cockpit and Aart tugging her away, Francine practically fell out of the plane. She felt incredibly confident her erratic behavior could let her safely navigate the plane out of there, and extremely angry with both the pilots and Aart for forcibly removing her from the plane. While being led off the plane, she shouted, both at Aart and the pilots, "You're all fired! Get in the fucking employment line, you losers!" She continued to feel this aggression right up until the point where she actually fell out of the plane. At this point, her bitterness was replaced entirely with terror and anxiety.

Once freefalling, Francine remembered she was a coward, and was scared half to death by falling out of a plane. Because of her previous confidence, Francine had never put on a parachute, putting further fear into her heart. In a panicked frenzy, she grabs onto Eerkens tightly, hoping his parachute could save them both. As she clung to Aart, she thought to herself "You're weak, you should've just fought to stay on the plane, what's wrong with you? Look at you, clinging to your subordinate for dear life. Pathetic."

Following a few minute long descend from the sky, Leesa landed safely at the designated LZ, not far from O'Neil. It was dark, but not too dark, with the full moon shining on the sky, she could could the contours of the nearby road, which was accompanied by a telephone line and a trail of trees passing along, leading all the way to the town of Falaise.

The descent was significantly calmer than Leesa expected. She wasn't shot at or anything strangely enough, considering the full moon. It's possible the air force distracted the Germans. Either that or they lacked good eyesight or binoculars.

Once Leesa dropped onto the ground safely she checked her surroundings. There was a road, telephone line, some trees... ah a fellow operative! She noticed him hiding his parachute and quickly did the same, trying to avoid getting straw onto her clothing as she did need it if she decided to head into town proper. Speaking of which where would she go? Well it might be useful to scout the road ahead to try and check if there's any German troops coming to check out the fields. So she decided to sneak alongside the road, in between the trees to try and maximize her cover, as well as being low to the ground. She could reconvene with the other operatives later, if there were any Germans coming she could sneak back to the fields anyways and alert any others.

Action - Sneak alongside the road, in between the trees and low to the ground to maximise cover and to spot any incoming German soldiers.
