Who was the worst US president?

Postby Cabra West » Sat Aug 19, 2017 10:46 am

You know these threads that used to come up here regularly, asking who the worst president in US history had been... I searched and found there hadn't been one of these since last year.
So do we have a definite winner of that title?
Or do you think there were worse ones than the current office holder?
"I was walking along the bank of a stream when I saw a mother otter with her cubs. A very endearing sight, and as I watched, the mother otter dived into the water and came up with a plump salmon, which she subdued and dragged on to a half-submerged log. As she ate it, while of course it was still alive, the body split and I remember to this day the sweet pinkness of its roes as they spilled out, much to the delight of the baby otters who scrambled over themselves to feed on the delicacy. One of nature’s wonders: mother and children dining upon mother and children. And that’s when I first learned about evil. It is built in to the very nature of the universe. If there is any kind of supreme being, I told myself, it is up to all of us to become his moral superior."

Pre WW2: James Buchanan.
Post WW2: Ronald Reagan.

Honorable mentions include Warren Harding, Herbert Hoover, George W Bush, and others.

As for Mr. Trump, while I have no doubt that he'll go down as one of the worst, he isn't a former US president yet, so I won't include his sorry ass.

Probably either Buchanan or Bill Clinton.

Bush wasn't the best but he was not the worst either.

Of those I know anything about... Donald Trump, no contest.

I'd take back Nixon and Bush Jr. over him.

Ronald Reagan is probably more immediately relevant to today than others, so I'd say he's the worst so far.

Is no one in here saying Andrew Jackson? Seriously? He committed genocide, for God's sake.

What most people don't know is that he had vetoed two welfare reform bills before that one.

Donald Trump, I'm afraid: nearly seven months and a lot of scandals are abound.

Buchanan and Pierce. Those Jack-Asses couldn't stop a child from destroying a room let alone stop the civil war from destroying the nation. Ill-sighted and in many accounts supportive of despicable southern policies such as the fugitive slave act and trying to force Kansas to be a slave state.

Probably James Buchanan, for his utter inactivity and incompetence. Or Harding, for his corruption. However, I can say without a doubt that Donald Trump has the worst moral character of any man entering the office, and is on a very fast track to becoming the worst President, period.

I thought it asked for the first US president. I was about to offend many americans :lol2:

The worst ones IMO are Andrew Jackson and Ronald Reagan.
My reasons are that Jackson was genocidal and Reagan was a neoliberal imperialist. Trump will probably join them, but it's too early to tell right now.

Worst moral character? While I am no fan of Trump, Pierce actively encouraged slavery and Jackson hated the Amerindians so much that he basically committed a genocide against them with the trail of tears.

It's very hard to be worse than the man who didn't stop the civil war, the man who carried out an ethnic cleansing campaign, and the man who actively blocked government support for the AIDS crisis.

To be honest Nixon was not that bad, he passed Title 9 which was a major step in gender quality, he pulled out all American troops from Vietnam , he also thwarted runaway inflation , he supported OSHA and signed the EPA into order. He was not the best but yet not the worse

If only he hadn't been so arrogant. He was going to win anyways, why did he feel the need to risk it?

In order: Buchanan, A. Johnson, and Carter.

Buchanan because he failed to preserve the union (which was kind of his job), A. Johnson because he essentially let Confederate big-wigs go scot-free and tried to impede the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments, and Carter because, well...he's the poster child for presidential Murphy's Law, since everything that could go wrong did go wrong, and he handled none of it properly.

Doesn't excuse the fact that after the 94 midterms, his administration was essentially "Republican Lite."

Nixon was certainly not a good President, but far from the worst. I'd take Nixon over the Bushes, Clinton, Reagan...

Right?

These threads are never about the "worst US President in history" because lets be honest Jackson takes that one by a country mile. It's always "lets shit on our political opposition's most recent 3 Presidents or Presidential candidates"
