Are We Heroes? Ch2 [ooc, Open, Great Time to Join!]

To Everyone
A Call To Arms
10/10/2043

We may have powers, but we are not unbeatable. Since the events of the Chicago Incident, Superhumans have been scared in the public image. Our friends, neighbors, even our family has been lied to again and again, until now they see us as nothing but the enemy. We are the Vanguard. We are not terrorist, we are not monsters, we are not going to stand by and let our kind be slaughtered. A war is dawning that could tear the world to shreds. We won't run. We will stand in the gap and save as many as we can. If you are superhuman, I will find you if you will fight for us. And if you would do us harm, I will find you first. We are the Vanguard, and we are not backing down.

Welcome to Dawn of War! This took heavy inspiration from Of Men and Titans created by Zeinbrad. Unfortunately, it never started. This is the second chapter in our little RP, and we have quite an impressive roster going in. The Chosen are building an army to take on the militarizing CADMUS, and the world is caught in the crossfire. In this RP you can post as a Mutant, and Enhanced, or a gifted. If you don't want to be super-powered you can play as a civilian important to the story, or as a member of CADMUS, the Government organization that was 'officially' created after the Petersburg incident. Each nation is limited to 3 player characters. You may have NPCs, but they can be controlled and killed more easily by other players than PCs: don't make more characters than you can handle.
To All Superhumans
A Call To Action
8/4/2043

You will be hunted.
You will be captured.
You are not safe.
Mere hours ago an emergency meeting of the UN convened to discuss the event that developed in Saint Petersburg three days ago. The unconfirmed reports of an individual with superhuman abilities leveling entire sections of the city are true. Intelligence agencies from multiple influential nations gave reports on these 'super-humans' which they all had been studying and capturing for decades. We are no longer protected by the shadow of ignorance; they know that we exist. The United States, the paragon of freedom and individual liberties, proposed a bill that allowed our kind and people like us to be monitored, captured, and detained within the sphere of law. They now have every right to hunt every single one of us down. We need to fight back, but not as a mass of individuals. We need to rally. There are communities of people like us, and we are looking for you. Stay free, stay alive, and stay hidden. Pray that we find you first.
Cypher Signing off

Welcome to Into The LIght! This took heavy inspiration from Of Men and Titans created by Zeinbrad. Unfortunately, it never started. I thought that this was too good of an idea to let it go to waste. I have changed some things to make it, in my opinion, a better setting. For now, the setting of the RP will be limited to the United States; I will most likely expand it worldwide in a subsequent thread. In this RP you can post as a Mutant, and Enhanced, or a gifted. If you don't want to be super-powered you can play as a civilian important to the story, or as a member of CADMUS, the Government organization that was 'officially' created after the Petersburg incident. There is currently no pre-defined story arc, save for trying to survive and join the other superhumans. Or trying to hunt down and capture the superhumans, if you are an agent of CADMUS. If this doesn't suit your fancy, you could become a villain and wreak havoc. The settings will be defined more below, but the entire United States is fair ground in this. You and the friends you meet along the way can go anywhere. Each nation is limited to 3 characters for now.

Terms
Mutants are rather self-explanatory; They derive their powers from mutations in the human genome. They can have a wide variation in abilities that can manifest as almost anything. They are the primary focus of CADMUS' scrutiny and will be the easiest to detect(given a blood test). They are born with their powers which are usually dormant until they awaken, either by an environmental stimulus or by maturity.

Enhanced individuals obtained their powers by an experiment or accident (this does not include cosmic events). This also includes humans which use technology to give themselves 'powers'. They are not born with powers and have to go through an ordeal to get them. They are harder to detect by CADMUS but will be detained if the opportunity presents itself.

Gifted people obtained their powers from magic, cosmic events, or other unexplained phenomena. They have about equal standing with CADMUS as the Enhanced.

Factions
The Vanguard has existed for 20 years in secret and has contacts all over the country. For years they have been sheltering Supers of all walks of life. Now under the newly invigorated CADMUS, they must choose to hide or fight.

Image
CADMUS has been in operation since the 1950's. They have been secretly monitoring, capturing, imprisoning, and experimenting on Mutants. Under the new 'Mutant Bill' they have been officially declared as a branch of Homeland Security. They are well accustomed to dealing with Mutants. They are technically not allowed to use lethal means unless the mutant shows dangerous tendencies, but no one would question if a mutant wound up dead during the course of a CADMUS operation. They have developed containment cells capable of adapting to the mutant's abilities. It is nearly impossible for most mutants to escape, most of the time it requires rescue from the outside. For the last two years, they have been trying to locate and capture Cypher (my mutant character), but he has been one step ahead for a long time. They have field offices in every state, but their main headquarters is in Ithaca, NY They are currently led by Administrator Adam Chester Narodny who manages all CADMUS operations, and Deputy Administrator General Timothy 'Tim' LeClerc who manages the field operations (Hunting and Capturing mutants).

The Chosen are a growing group of mutants who choose to not align themselves with any faction currently on the board. They believe that the Vanguard to be cowards, only running and hiding from CADMUS as opposed to openly fighting with them. Their primary goal is to shoot/burn/freeze/slice/kill/murder CADMUS until it dies. This includes all known associates of CADMUS, such as the Omega Horizon Corporation. The Chosen's modus operandi at the moment is to get into extremely unfortunate situations at airports and other places where a lot of people gather and turn it into an opportunity to put the hammer down on CADMUS.
The Chosen are "led" by a triumvirate of incredibly powerful mutants: Stephanie Edgemoor, Skullduggery, and Corpus. Despite this, the three mutants do not currently consider themselves to be the actual commanders of any real force. They are simply an inspiration to mutants of their ilk and champions of the "Supra Homines" ideal: the belief that mutants are either the next step in human evolution or something entirely different(and greater) than humanity.
Most of the time, the Chosen are roped into the same category as the Vanguard: a group of mutants that needs to be wiped off the face of the earth. They seek to change this notion, and many Americans were made distinctly aware of the difference between the two mutant factions during the Chicago Incident, where Skullduggery and Corpus killed over a hundred civilians, more than thirty TSA agents, and at least two dozen CADMUS agents.
As it stands, mutants who align themselves with the Chosen are conglomerating across the United States, plotting their own "Incidents". They believe America has not seen the true power of the mutant yet, and they to put on a grand show.

Image
Their mission is to use corrupted genes from supers to implant them into human subjects to create biomechanical super soldiers which they will sell to the highest bidder. They are a multinational weapons manufacturer and biological research corporation that uses their own paramilitary group called the Black Brigade, which they use to capture both humans and supers. They are based in several locations but in America, their location is Houston Texas.

XYZ is a small team of mutant teenagers under the tutelage of Chance, a telepathic vigilante. The small team consists of two members (not including Chance) at this time. XYZ's goal is to fight CADMUS and crime all at once, but they don't want to protect mutantkind. They want to teach mutantkind to protect themselves. They are based in an old movie theater in a shady part of New York City, and have very limited contact in Los Angeles.

Example Application for My Character, Cypher:
Character Name: unknown

Alias [Optional]: Cypher (Smartest man alive)

Age: unknown (35, known only to close friends)
Gender: male

Species: Mutant

Appearance: Caucasian. Has brown eyes and sharp facial features. Always wears a full face mask of polished black glass but ears and short brown hair are visible. 5' 10" tall, and very thin. Wears black clothing with a 'utility belt' and 9mm pistol holsters on each thigh. Wears black combat boots and stolen body armor (bullets still deadly obviously to keep RP interesting) ). Wears a black leather trench coat. (For lurking purposes.)

Side [Faction - Optional]: Lone Wolf, but seeks to save mutants like him. Has ties to and communicates with the Vanguard.

Personality: Calculating and logical. Represses all humor and distractions and focuses on goal. Doesn't show any emotions, and is willing to kill without hesitation or remorse.

Powers: Hyper Intelligence and super senses. Can perform incredibly complex mathematical equations and can break down the world into a series of mathematical expressions. Has nearly impossible accuracy with both thrown projectiles and guns. Can visualize and calculate many possible outcomes of the butterfly effect on a grand scale. For instance, he could throw a quarter and cause something like a car accident.

Origin of Powers [Optional]: Mutant

Drawbacks: Powers have to be activated. When being used, his eyes glow a bright amber/orange. If powers are used for too long, it causes extreme migraines and cranial bleeding. But if he doesn't deactivate the powers he will black out and suffer seizures because his brain cannot comprehend the vast knowledge without the powers.

Bio: [unkown]. Cypher grew up with both parents in a small town in NC. Didn't cause any trouble and did well in school. When he grew older he fell in with a bad crowd. Got arrested for petty theft, and when he got out he joined up with his old friends. He was pressured into trying meth and he caved. His powers activated under the influence of the stimulant and he blacked out. Two days later he woke up with a massive headache, but he could activate his powers. He began to see seemingly benign news reports but realized that they were connected. Realizing that there were other people like him and that they were being captured by a secret organization, he began to fight. He wiped himself from all public records to protect his family and began wearing the mask. Cypher found the Vanguard but disagreed with some of their practices, he now helps locates high-risk mutants and other superhumans to assess them and guide them to the Vanguard. He also works to dismantle CADMUS.

Starting Location: Chicago

  • Mind Control: Cannot control other player's characters (unless they consent), but NPC's are fine. It is understood that characters with intellectual abilities or psychic powers are immune or at least resistant to mind control.
  • Time Travel: Cannot be used to freeze time in fights(it is just unfair. It is to be understood that if you touch a character while you have time frozen, they will be able to move the same as you.) Time manipulation should only affect your character, I.E. don't use it to send a player forward or back in time without their consent.
  • Invulurability: If your character has any form of invulnerability, they should have some form of 'kryptonite' or weakness that makes it possible to defeat them, or incapacitate them long enough to escape.

  1. General NS rules
  2. You are permitted to RP the reactions of non-essential NPC's so long as they do not belong to the faction of another RPer
  3. You need to realize the limitations of your powers. You have to be willing to lose some fights.
  4. CADMUS will hunt you. And you must be willing to be captured and wait for someone to rescue you. Or find some way out that fits into the confines of your powers and rules.
  5. You cannot kill another character unless you first have permission from that character.
  6. Please include the names of all writers of co-posts.

I have gone ahead and made a Discord for this thread. I want to say first and foremost that this IS NOT MANDATORY. The OOC and Telegrams are perfectly legitimate means of communication.

  1. No discussion of future story arcs. This should be purely to aid in collaboration of two or more players in writing a conversation or post. Conversations can go on for several posts, and we already have quite a few people that are going to be posting.
  2. All questions should be asked in the OOC (unless it is a question directed to a person you are collaborating with about how they want a scene to go)
  3. I have not changed permissions basically at all to make it easier for you to make text channels to write your posts. Do not abuse this.
  4. Don't jump in conversations your character is not a part of, At ALL.
  5. Please change your nickname to your Character(s) name(s) separated by (/) if there are more than one.
  6. General NS rules apply

I will not hesitate to temporarily ban you if you break one of these rules, so don't cause trouble

NPC Depository

Character Name: Jeremy Howards

Alias: Overkill (He didn't give himself the name)

Appearance: His body was 40 years old before the possessing. He still looks like a forty-year-old man, except his eyes glow a demonic red, and his left arm is twisted and disfigured with veins of red energy and shards of black metal. The veins extend from his shoulder more sparsely, scarring through his body, and across his face. Random Shards of the black metal extrude through his skin in random areas near the veins, growing through any clothes he's wearing before eventually falling off. He has raven hair and a thick beard. He has a very burly build and stands just about six feet tall.

Personality: Loud and boastful. Very self-confident and alpha male mentality.

Powers:
  • Demonic Physiology: Super Human durability, strength, and agility. Fueled by supernatural energies, Howard's body is much less fragile than a human's. He has a slight resistance to magic and is all but immune to fire. His body can heal quickly from wounds, even fatal ones.
  • Hellfire rounds: Whatever weapon Overkill holds morphs into a hellish version. Whatever rounds He has on him transform into Hellfire rounds made out of the same demonic ore that grows from his body. All of his weapons morph to be capable of firing the hellfire rounds. If they are removed from his position, they return to their original state. If anyone is struck by a Hellfire round, they are bound to the Nether Realm. Overkill can then isolate his target by pulling them into the alternate dimension. If someone is killed by a Hellfire round, their soul is trapped there forever, but Overkill can, at will, return them from the Nether Realm fully alive.
  • Weapon Generation/Manipulation: Overkill alters his weapons, and generates new ones from the metal protruding from his body. It liquifies and flows into place along with the red demonic energy.
  • Hellwalker: Overkill can span the gap between our world and the supernatural, allowing him to open portals to other dimensions. He can do this effortlessly with the Nether Realm, or Underworld, a 1:1 mirror of our world but twisted and hellish. He can't be seen or touched when he is in the Nether Realm, and likewise he can't interact with the real world.
  • Bound For Eternity: If his body is completely destroyed, he can eventually reconstitute himself, be it months or years later.

Drawbacks:
  • Jeremy Howards is both reanimated and possessed, so he is bound by supernatural laws. He cannot enter a Church, holy ground, or place of worship. Holy water burns him, and bullets dipped in holy water cause wounds that don't heal. He has an aversion to sunlight, it won't stop him, but continued exposure can weaken him to the point of being human.
  • Meatsack: Overkill's body isn't quite invulnerable. He still gets hurt and has to work to "rebuild" his vessel.
Origin of Powers: Possession by a malevolent spirit.

Bio: Howards was a perfect little soldier. He followed every order to the letter; right to his grave. Nothing more than cannon fodder, he was slain along with countless others in some forgotten battle. His corpse was found, resurrected, and possessed by a demon of war. Demons can possess ordinary bodies, but only for limited amounts of time and run the risk of being exorcised. There are ways that demons can claim a permanent host. The demon in Howards found the body and brought it back to life, unfortunately for Howard's soul, A reanimated body only brings back the mind, but remains soulless. Howard still has the same mind and personality he had before, but his soul has been replaced with the demon. The demon now runs the body through Howard's mind and flesh. When a demon finds a permanent host they raise hell and have their own twisted fun. Taking up the mantle of a gun for hire, Overkill hunts anyone if the price is right.

Starting Location: New York City

Faction: NPC

Additional info: Loves Mondays, Hates Sundays. Favorite song is "Highway to Hell". Likes pistols, but LOVES heavier guns.

Character Name: Samuel Diaz

Alias: Grimm

Appearance: Stands 6' 6" tall, with his body covered by tactical body armor. He wears black combat boots and gauntlets. He has a long, extremely tattered cape, and a mask that covers his face. His scythe is seven feet tall, with a four-foot curved blade made of silver.

Personality: Serious, and for lack of a better word: Grim. When he shows up, it is to do a job and nothing else. He is rarely angry, however, and tries to be upbeat when he can.

Powers:
  • Grip of Death: One touch can induce a death-like state in the recipient. All bodily functions cease, but no permanent damage is done to the body for seven days.
  • Reanimation: Grimm can bring back a dead corps, but only for a limited amount of time. He can extend the duration by touching the corps again
  • Immortality: Grimm's body cannot be maimed, killed or destroyed as long as he has the entity of death inside him.
  • Measured and Weighed: If Grimm makes eye contact with an assailant, he can cause the enemies eyes to burst into flames, and have them experience all the pain they've ever caused.
  • Wraith Charmer: When people die, it is a death wraith that actually takes the soul to its final destination. Grimm can influence Wraiths in his vicinity, making them hold off on claiming a soul.
  • The Scythe: The Scythe is the same weapon wielded by Death itself, now in the possession of Grimm. He can use it to create tears in dimensions, and allow him to travel long distances quickly. It grants him immunity from most forms of magic. Its greatest power is the power to reap souls. He can kill people regularly, or he can charge it with supernatural energy and reap the soul and leave the body intact. It can kill spirits and other disembodied entities.

Drawbacks:
  • Balance of Life and Death: The Grip of Death doesn't do physical harm to the body it effects, but after seven days it will become permanent. The body can easily be revived by anyone with healing powers, or by normal means of resuscitation.
  • The Scythe: If someone manages to separate Grimm and the Scythe, he loses all of his powers, except his Immortality.

Origin of Powers: Gifted

Bio: Samuel Diaz was once a renowned mercenary and assassin. He built a small army but sought to increase his power. He heard a legend of a way to become death. He didn't take it as literally as he should. This legend led him to a Tibetan monastery in the Himalayas. He and his men raided the monastery, killing their way to a crypt dug deep into the mountain. When Diaz opened the crypt, a strange malevolence struck out, and slew all of Diaz's men. A black energy swirled around Diaz as he started the ritual by stabbing himself. His blood drained and filled channels of a sigil on the floor. The energy saturated the blood before it re-entered Samuel's body. When he came to, he found the cape and scythe lying in the crypt. He donned them and staggered out of the tomb. When he reached the exit he found a man waiting with burning Iron Chains shackled to his wrists. The man revealed himself to be Azrael, the (Fallen) angle of death, who commanded the original Reaper who walked the earth before Lucifer's rebellion. Azrael found himself on the losing side, but he was allowed to keep his job just barely. He is forced to live on Earth, keeping tabs on escaped souls, and magic users who use souls as a power source. The Reaper is the physical embodiment of Death, the agent of Azrael who hunts down those who violate the natural order.

"So, What are you now, my boss?"

"Pretty much."

Starting Location: NY

Faction: The Watchers (oooooh)

Additional info: Doesn't really do the whole "reaping souls whose time has come" thing.

Character Name: Paul Hester

Alias: Zero

Appearance: Young adult standing at 5' 9". Often wears hoodies and jeans.

Personality: Upbeat and optimistic, he loves his powers and is fiercely protective of the Vanguard. He likes playing jokes, but buckles down when it's time to be serious.

Powers:
  • Gravity Nullification: Zero can create an area of zero gravity in a variable range up to 200m radius. He can control himself like flight in this range, while other people would have a more difficult time. He can also apply this just to individual objects, also up to 200m in size, mass is not a limiting factor.
  • Gravity manipulation: Can induce a gravity well in any single direction up to 2g.
  • Force amplification: He can alter the forces affecting his own body. He can run at an accelerated rate near eighty mph and can levitate. He can effectively walk on walls or ceilings and can jump with only himself affected by the zero gravity. Zero can quite literally leap tall buildings in a single bound.

Drawbacks:
  • Intertia: When something is affected by zero gravity, it still has the same mass, and therefore, inertia as it had before. If he effected a multi-ton tank, it would take a lot of force to get moving.

Origin of Powers: Mutation

Bio: One of the few children born into the Vanguard, Paul grew up surrounded by mutants. His powers manifested early, and he was dubbed "Zero". Much to the reluctance of his mother, he eventually allowed to help with supply runs where they got the "five-finger discount."

Starting Location: Chadron

Faction: Vanguard

Additional info:

Character Name: Dimitri Drese

Alias: Somnus

Appearance: Can appear as anything when in a dream, but in human form, looks like this

Personality: NPC

Powers:
  • Dreamtime: Somnus can enter other people's dreams, observe them, , shape them, and travel real-world distances by moving in the dream.
  • Shared Reality: Somnus can jump from dream to dream without entering the physical world, and can bring others with him into dreams, and cause groups of people to have the same dream.
  • Call of Morpheus: Somnus can cause people to fall asleep in an area around him.
Has an effective range of 100ft.
  • Only a Figment: Cannot die while in the dream world.

Drawbacks: While he can control dreams, Somnus cannot do any physical harm. He cannot be killed in a dream (his physical body enters the dream), but he can be attacked psychically, and if the person who's dream he is currently in dies, then he is locked in the dream.

Origin of Powers: Enhanced/Gifted

Bio: NPC

Starting Location: NPC

Faction: NPC

Would CADMUS be willing to employ or hire a super to help hunt down other supers, or would they refuse to do anything but contain/kill them?

Yes! thank you for reminding me. CADMUS will use supers that agree to work for them (like a plea bargain.) They would be more likely to use enhanced but will use mutants and Gifted as well.

Hello! I’m a GAer and NS Roleplayer from the United Kingdom.
My pronouns are he/him.
Any posts that I make as GenSec will be clearly marked as such and OOC. Conversely, my IC ambassador in the General Assembly is Ambassador Fortier. I’m always happy to discuss ideas about proposals, particularly if grammar or wording are in issue. I am also Executive Deputy Minister for the WA Ministry of TNP.
Kenmoria is an illiberal yet democratic nation pursuing the goals of communism in a semi-effective fashion. It has a very broad diplomatic presence despite being economically developing, mainly to seek help in recovering from the effect of a recent civil war. Read the factbook here for more information; perhaps, I will eventually finish it.

Tag. My only issue is that it is hard for characters to interact with each other if they all start in different places... But I liked the idea from this and from the other RP.
The Clockwork Circus - Welcome to a steampunk RP rife with crime, gangs, beggars, and starting off as the lowest of the low, in the lowest socio-economic place there is.

Character Name: Greg Alban
Alias [Optional]: Geist
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Species: Mutant
Appearance:
Image
Side [Faction - Optional]: None yet
Personality:
Greg is basically a dumb kid. He wants to help people, though he really has no idea what he’s doing. Until recently he wanted to be a special forces operative like his uncle Garrick before he died (though possessing no idea what that actually entailed). As he becomes more aware of the world around him, however, this path has begun to change in ways he has never anticipated.
Powers:
  • Astral Projection - Greg is able to leave his body behind and walk (or fly through) the world as a unbound soul. His projection can be visible or invisible (or translucent), solid or incorporeal. He can speak and be heard, even when invisible or incorporeal.
  • Mind Walking - Greg can step into the mind of another person and view thoughts, memories and emotions. With more practice (or completely on accident) he can interact with them as well, changing the very mindscape he is walking.
  • Possession - Greg can step into the body of another person, inhabiting it and controlling its every action. The degree of control depends on the strength of will of the possessee and Greg’s control of himself at that moment.
  • Telekinesis - Greg can move objects without even touching them as a solidified projection. Solids are the easiest to move, with the mass of the solid ultimately determining the amount of effort he needs to exert. Fluids are far more difficult to control, and the less viscous a fluid is the more difficult it is to control, to the point that (for the moment at least) it is firmly beyond him.
Drawbacks:
  • Greenhorn - Greg has literally just discovered his abilities as result of his injury. His control is less than impressive, and he has no previous training that would aid him with the concentration he needs to perform many of the feets. As a teenager, his emotions still exert great control over him and can interrupt the use of his powers.
  • Comatose - Greg’s body is comatose, completely unable to defend itself, and he’s not certain if he can survive as the projection if his body dies.
  • Electromagnetic Interference - Even when invisible, the projection creates an electromagnetic field. While just wandering around, it would at most deflect a nearby compass or gauss a nearby CRT, but the more power he uses, the stronger the EMF grows, potentially interrupting the operation of electrical equipment.
  • No GPS in the Mindscape - A mindscape is often full of powerful thoughts, memories and emotions. Without sufficient self discipline, Greg can be drawn into them and get lost in the mindscape he is walking though, even to the point of believing himself to actually be in the memory he is experiencing.
Bio:
From an early age, Greg had no shortage of heroes to look to. His older brother, Wesley, was a soccer star in high school. His mother, Melissa, is one of the lead physicians of the local clinic. His father, Jeffrey, is a city Alderman. And his uncle, Garrick, was a special forces operative (though Greg has no idea ‘special forces’ was code for ‘CADMUS’).

By the time Greg was in middle school, Wesley had already left home. This, combined with the closeness of age with his older and younger sisters, led to the development of a middle-child complex. His older sister, Catherine, had started making honor roll while his younger sister, Ashley, continued to be doted on. Hoping to make his own mark, Greg joined the school soccer team. Here he did not make a splash. Though the middle school team tried to play everyone equally, it remained that he was far from the best player on the team. He worked hard at it, but lacked the same natural talent of his older brother.

As he made his way into high school, he would often be known as ‘Catherine’s brother’ or, to those who cared more for sports, ‘Wesley’s brother’, much to his chagrin. Two years later, with Catherine now in a pre-med program at Northwestern University and Ashley having joined him in highschool, hopes for being his own person had their final death when, as his younger sister took a main role in that years major student drama production. Now ‘Ashley’s older brother’, Greg had resigned himself to being otherwise relatively unknown in high school.

Without hope of something more, the start of senior year hasn’t been much of a disappointment. Sure, in most of the school he is more known by his siblings than his own accomplishments. Still, he had his friends, decent grades and a good, though not stellar, soccer career, and that was enough.

Then a child ran across the path of his car.

Greg swerved his car to avoid the kid, and drove straight over the side of a bridge onto the train tracks below. At first he thought he had been thrown from the car, leaving him confused but thankful that he was still whole. That lasted until he got a good look at the car and realized he was still in the driver seat. When the paramedics arrived, they couldn’t see him, passing right through him as he screamed for help and they didn’t hear a word. Unsure of what else to do, he boarded the ambulance as it carried his unconscious body to the nearest hospital.

All of that happened two days ago. Ever since, Greg has been in the hospital, watching his family worry about him and trying to figure out these strange new powers as they slowly manifest. He’s managed to figure out how to briefly become corporeal, lift small objects and managed to briefly make himself visible to one of the children from the pediatrics ward. He hasn’t gotten tired, or hungry, or thirsty. The biggest thing he’s learned so far? He is way out of his depth.

Noted. But that is the purpose of characters like Cypher and prophet (Iota Corp's character who has not posted yet). They seek out those not affiliated. And CADMUS is hunting the unaffiliated, so you are driven to meet others. Also you can choose to start near the other players.

This is a character I have used before and really love. I originally made him for an RP where it wasn't safe to be a super, so he kind of fits.

- Talc

Application

Character Name: Richard Weinkauf

Alias: Sometimes Richard has gone by the name, "The Artisan"

Age: 62
Sex: Male
Height: 6 foot 1 inch (1.85 meters)
Weight: 220 lbs. (99.79 kg)

Appearance:
Image

In costume, Richard is not one for a superhero outfit with spandex, a cape, colored boots, or so on. However, because he prefers to keep anonymous, he has gone out in a tan trench coat, black fedora, gloves and a simple mask that covers his head and face.

Personality:(optional)

Powers:
Artistic Realities - Richard's main ability is the power to make art real, by creating a "new reality" where the work of art comes to life and is able to interact with characters. This applies to classic works of "high" art that might be found in a museum, not comic art. The effect is that Richard can make what the drawing, painting, sculpture, or other portrays, to appear and the world and background they appear in. These "artistic appearances" have a boundary that separates them from the real world. He can put other characters in these new artistic realities, and what was portrayed, now becomes their new world (so these other characters can get lost, wounded, disoriented, etc). People can see the boundary from the outside, but cannot see any boundary or "outside" to reality if they are in this "artistic reality". If anyone crosses the boundary, they are in there too. Those inside who have technological sensors can now only scan what happens in that new "artistic reality" and not the real world. Only Richard can let people out, which happens either voluntarily, or if Richard loses concentration (these worlds exist only as long as Richard can concentrate on them, which also means he can only have one "artistic new reality" up and running at a time.) The range for these artistic realities is within Richard's sight, but Richard is more likely to use this ability in closer range to him than further away. (It is easier to concentrate).
The artistic reality is like a small pocket dimension that Richard creates and pulls local people into at will, with concentration. There is a doorway that is easily seen, that is a barrier to the real world. It's a one way trip through the door, however. People that Richard pulls in, and anyone who stumbles through the doorway, are trapped in this new pocket dimension-like type until Richard lets them out. (Richard himself would be immune to that and could leave as he wished). People can also look in the doorway and see what's going on inside it. Doorway appear at an arbitrary location, but they are usually near enough to Richard so he can concentrate better. Say within ten yards or so.

Statue Physiology - Richard can also turn himself into a living statue or sculpture. It has to be a statue that's already created, and not one from Richard's imagination. (He has to see the details). In this state, his body becomes entirely that material all the way through. So, for example, if Richard's arm were to be blasted off by a laser, it would be possible for a sculptor to re-attach his arm in that state, and for Richard to suffer minimal effects when he returned to his human form. There would still be noticeable effects, however, like a visible scar.

Artistic Teleportation - Richard is able to teleport himself, and the things he carries and wears, by art. Whatever the picture or print is, Richard can teleport to either a) the gallery that painting is in; or b) a scene very similar to that painting. The spatial limit that Richard can teleport to is within the city he is in. That means, if Richard were to use this ability by looking at a print of the Mona Lisa, he would not be able to teleport to Paris - though he might be able to teleport to a gift shop at a local gallery that had a Mona Lisa print on display. Richard needs to see the artwork to be able to teleport. Again, this only applies to "high" art of a proven pedigree, and not comic art or even new artwork by aspiring artists.

Drawbacks:
- Richard has no super abilities in fighting. He's a fit, older man, but very poor in almost any combat with another super person.
- Richard depends a lot on his journal. If he loses that, or finds himself away from other art he can't get the details for well, he's very powerless.
- Richard can only do one artistic reality at a time. He has to concentrate on it, which means he is exposed and vulnerable to anyone else not in his artistic reality.

Origin of Powers: Mutation

Bio:
Richard Weinkauf is a 62 year old retired art teacher. Art is Richard's life-long passion. He went into teaching because he enjoyed it and it gave him the ability to be around art permanently. He has taught in three high schools, most recently in Phoenix. He was forced into early retirement in cost-cutting moves, and is somewhat bitter about it. Richard has continued creating art throughout his life, and has had some of his works on display in small shows and museums. He is not known for his artwork by the general public, and few specialists would recognize his name, even though he remembers opportunities that might have given him his break had things turned out differently.

Richard is generally cynical of political promises, agencies and politics in general. Richard prefers to keep his head low instead of drawing attention to himself.

Richard is a widower. His wife, Mary, died decades ago in a car accident. He never remarried. Richard has an adult son, Paul, 35 years old, who he is estranged from. Richard raised Paul alone as a single father. Paul has no powers of his own, and is distrustful of super-powered people and meta-humans in general. Richard wishes that the division in their relationship was healed, but Paul remains unwilling.

Richard possesses an artist's eye for detail and a good memory. He has skill in several kinds of art (mostly painting, some sculpting and drawing). He is also well-versed in art history and considers himself cultured. He speaks German fluently.

Richard was 25 when his powers manifested themselves. He was showing his young son Paul some of the classic art in his books, and ended up imprisoning Paul in a painting depicting the Civil War. After he realized what had happened, he ended the artistic reality. But that set off a chain of events in Paul's life that only led him to grow ever more distrustful of his father. Richard became a vigilante after much soul searching. Tired of the violence in the city, he set out to take matters into his own artistic hands. But Richard has also been wary, not wanting to be caught. Plus, since his forced retirement, it's pushed him into a bitterness that he normally doesn't have, which leads him to value the lives of criminals a lot less than he once had.

Starting Location: Phoenix, AZ

Faction: N/A

Additional info:
Equipment-
For the limitations and uses on his powers given above, Richard carries a journal that has several prints of works of art that he finds useful for turning into new "realities." Also several prints of statues and sculptures. In addition, Richard carries a cellphone, his wallet and keys. He owns a car - a Chevy Equinox. He also carries an artistic sketchbook, some pencils for drawing (different artistic varieties), a pencil sharpener, and a blotter.

Theme song: Richard goes classical, impressionistic - just like some artists he likes.

RP Example (if you wanted to know) First example, another superhero RP.
Second example, a superhero comedy RP
Third example, a FT nation space RP

Alright. This is really something I hadn't really thought of. I'm not against it. So this artistic reality: is it a doorway that he makes, or is it more of a small pocket dimension he can create and pull local people into at will? Is there a dome, bubble, or otherwise a three dimensional 'force fielded like' in the real world that marks the boundaries?

Last question: is the doorway in front of the art that inspired the art reality, or at an arbitrary location?

Arbitrary location. Usually near enough to Richard so he can concentrate better. Say within ten yards or so.

Great!

So then, are you going to have a cast list with links so we can see the other characters we're dealing with better? Thanks. Oh, and you said now that you're no longer looking for Co-OPs. Did you get some players to be Co-OPs?

I will make a character list when the IC starts, which will be tomorrow or the next day. The two CoOPs are listed in the first post.
