There is also tension between Welskerland and a neighboring nation over a territory that has native Welskian citizens, and Welskerland wants to liberate it in order for all of the Welskian people to be united under one government and flag again.

We used to have a colony called Absonthorpe, from 1889 to 1901.

We were an English colony from 1650 to 1686, with some territory part of the Ottoman Empire. We became an English/British-Ottoman condominium (shared rule) from 1686 to 1745. This was disputed from 1727 to 1745, during the first section of the Anollasian War of Independence, in which the provisional government challenged the British-Ottoman rule. We became a British colony once again from 1745 to 1760, since the Ottoman Empire lost control of the island in 1745.

They were given independence in 1901, following a referendum.

Very strong, though it's more of a one way relationship because Absonthorpe is very dependent on us.

Initially, we had sour relations with Great Britain but nowadays we have a friendly relationship. We were also sour with the Ottoman Empire, though relations improved in the 1800s during the Tanzimat period though they became a bit cold after that until the end of the empire. We had a very friendly relationship with the Republic of Turkey for most of that country's existence, especially during its early days, though nowadays relations are strained and unfriendly with the Erdogan government.

Appalachia has good trading relations with most of its North American neighbors, including the rump state that calls itself the United States, but is not engaged in any sort of military or economic alliance with them. However, our relationship with the Confederate States, our neighbors to the south, is extremely poor. There are no diplomatic channels, the Confederacy lays claim to much of our territory (but doesn't actually control it), and aggressive acts between the two nations are frequent.

By the time Athrax fully unified in 1877, the biggest part of the race for colonization was over. Some of the constituent states to Athrax had picked up some Carribean colonies from Spain in the past centuries, but these were mostly left in a state of benign neglect until they became fully incorporated into the kingdom.

While the Yakumokami Yakumo Yukari and her successors claimed the Andaman and Nicobar islands as part of Yakumo and later Dahoni territory -- a claim not seriously challenged till the early 1950s by India and Thailand, with the former securing its claim after a series of arbitrations -- no kami has ever exercised anything other than nominal sovereignty over the islands, or even set foot on the islands, let alone occupy them. The Undying Empire engaged in an age of its own imperialism but not at a colonial level. The age was the simple expansion of continuous territory both to the east and west with the ultimate aim of acquiring land, access to resources, and an abundant amount of slaves. The Undying Empire is controlled from an island, but an island close to the mainland territories. As all controlled territories are considered both Undying Empire and the concept of Greater Ephyra, it would be factually incorrect to suggest we have colonies because we have imperialism, as all conquered territories were annexed.

Circa 1860 Brazil also overthrew Argentine monarchy as a demonstration of power and preventing the creation of a future powerful rival; the regions of Chaco and Corrientes were annexed. The Brazilian Empire also established outposts in West Africa and conquered an independent Angola, expanding into the heart of African jungles and turning the former Portuguese colony in a Brazilian province.
