History
During the Furbish Civil Wars, the small island of Lereya and Aruvia declared independence from the failing Furby Empire in 1915. The island is very rich in resources, and has enough for it to be self sustaining. People thought that they can survive independently from the Furby Empire. Unfortunately, the people has been so used to them being governed tightly by the Furby Empire, they didn't know how to govern themselves. The island collapsed soon after independence. Many groups fought each other for control of the island, and kept getting defeated by another.
In 1956, a leader took over the entire island. The people were happy when he came to power, since a long war in the island was over. But his policies were very strict. He established a cult of personality, strictly controlled everything, and punished all dissidents very harshly. Soon, the people wanted to overthrow the dictator. Many of his reforms were unpopular, and caused the standard of living to decrease drastically. A year after coming to power, the army overthrew the dictator and established a military junta.
The junta has attempted to help the people so they won't be overthrown. They started by privatizing the economy, and then invested the money into infrastructure, healthcare, and improving the quality of life. The junta had a high approval rating, and people didn't care that they can't choose the leaders or criticize the current ones. However, it fell apart in the 90's. In 1992, a group called the Lereya and Aruvia Rebel Forces, or LARF, was formed. They held secret meetings on how to get rid of the junta. In 1993, they attacked several places in the northeastern part of the island and made it look like the junta did it. They then got support, and attempted to overthrow the junta.
They captured a lot of territory, which caused a civil war. In 2005, the junta won. One of the leaders killed all the rest, and made himself the leader. The people were too nervous to revolt. The leader's policies were even stricter than the ones of the dictator that rules in 1956 and '57. He purged much of the government, and caused the country to have the worst standard of living in its history. But the country was very stable, and all resistance movements had to hide or risk disappearing overnight.
In 2016, the LARF and various other factions began capturing land. So many attacked at once, and the army couldn't deal with it all. The dictator made harsher punishments for anyone he thought was associated with the rebels. All the factions caught the attention of the FISS, which sent spies to the area to investigate the whole thing. Parliament has decided to support the Lereya and Aruvia Democratic Union, or LADU.
In July 24th 2017, during a parade in the capital to celebrate a victory against one of the factions, a coup was planned. Several FISS agents disguised as the leader's bodyguards, and several LADU fighters his withing the crowd. Suddenly, the FISS opened fire on the leader, his government, and his other bodyguards. This caused panic and chaos among the government, which the crowds started cheering. The LADU fighters shot st the bodyguards too. The FISS agents took the leader and a few other government officials hostage. A helicopter flew over to the FISS agents, and they got on with the prisoners. The army was sent to the scene, but the large crown stopped all advances. Thousands of LADU fighters stormed the city, and the citizens helped them capture it.
