Jigaran Karan Island
Fort Kogax
11th Marine Regiment
Commander Killhan Buhorgt
Killhan stood at his post overseeing the days traffic, he was as bored as ever, nothing ever happened. The most action he had ever seen at this god forsaken fort was a fire in the courtyard, and that was a mere accident. He swore that the forts cannons had never fired a shot, and it seemed like they never would. He felt the ocean breeze touch his face, his tricorner hat sat atop his head, the dark fabric hand sewn, much like everything else he wore. The long Pattern sword hung from his belt, its dark scabbard covering its sharp blade, made to be just as much a deadly weapon as a status symbol, and forged from tough steel. He was about to head inside when he noticed a patch of white slowly appearing over the horizon, he frowned and lifted his glass, and through it he saw the mast of a ship, what he thought appeared to be a second rate, which made him frown, as the navy did not use that type of vessel, and this one was not showing its banner.
He lowered and folded the glass and turned to a Marine, and with authority in his voice said "man the guns, fire a salute, let's see if they respond"
"Yes sir" the Marine ran off down some stairs to carry out his orders, and before long he heard the shouting of commands from gun crews and then the order of 'fire', followed by six loud thunderclaps as the air in front of the guns filled with smoke. He raised his glass again, viewing the vessel, and frowned, she had not raised her banner, nor had she returned the salute, he frowned and said to an officer "get the men to their posts now, and tell them to expect company"
"Yes commander"
The officer was soon going to execute the orders given to him, the sound of his boots tapping the stone of the fortress could be heard. Soon the sound came again in larger volume and number, as the regiment took its place on the walls of the fort, ready for whatever was coming their way.
