It was "The Day The Earth Stood Still", the great experiment that was the United States has finally failed! The downfall started with the 1932 presidential election which was the most chaotic in recent history. The Socialist and broken Democratic and Republican parties faced off in a election that was brought down to the wire. A clear electoral majority of 266 was not reached by anyone. The vote was given to the House of Representatives and Herbert Hoover was just slightly re-elected President of the United States. Hoover maintained order, but never fully recovered the nation from the depression. But in late 1933 the whole country was thrown into an uncertain darkness when three states, Texas, Kansas, and Oklahoma filed to succeed from the Union, each as independent nations. A few days later Arkansas, Nebraska, and Iowa followed. By Christmas every single state and territory succeeded. Douglas MacArthur dissolved the Hoover Government. He gathered the last few loyal to the "United" States inside of Washington to act as the de facto US government.
Now it is January 1, 1934, the beginning of a new year. For the most part the independent states have lived in peace, but tensions are growing. Some states have bigger ambitions and are willing to do anything to become the dominant power in North America. What will happen is up to you.

Historical Accuracy:
I expect good historical accuracy, it's 1934, don't be launching ICBMs with nuclear warheads attached to them, it will take some time before anyone reaches that.
