IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation:
On July 17th 1957, the Archipelagic nations of North Autearoa signed the Pulau Keramat Declaration, in hopes of facilitating infrastructural, economic, and political integration with one another, thus establishing an early intergovernmental organization that until 1972, served as a form of unity amongst the wholly sovereign states. In 1972, the Dewan Emas Agreement as facilitated by the nation state of Nakharain was passed, and gave heavy authority and facilitation to the Pulau Keramat Association, thereby unifying the countries of Nahkarain, Birhanu, The Solustheris Islands, Orang Uslia, and Kopiona Poi as sovereign states within the Pulau Keramat Confederacy, with the desires of total economic integration, defensive capacities, and standardized capacities for education, medical aid, welfare, human rights standards and some legal prowess. In 1986, an amendment was added to the Dewan Emas Agreement, which allowed the Autearoan nation of Sinavia to enter the confederacy, albeit there has been dissent within the native population in regards to how much autonomy should be sacrificed in order to join the confederate league. Each of the established nation states still hold internal governance, and hold different identities to governance that takes different standards to taxation, infrastructure, legal standards, and other responsibilities not discussed within the Dewan Emas Agreement, as notified under Subsection 7, Article II. However, the primary power and authority over each of the nations lie by the Dewan Emas, ‘Golden Council’, who serve under elected positions, with each nation electing their own councilmember, and from within the current, a Prime Councilmember is chosen to hold executive decision making capacity, and emergency powers to ensure functionality and stability under times of emergency or to prevent stagnation. Each council member is elected to serve for a variant level of time, with voting options for a term of 2,4, or 6 years to each candidate, and no limit to the extent of terms a councilmember may serve, albeit this may be subject to change under the desires of current Prime Councilmember Maurani Rahmkha. Sinavia was granted the capacity to elect a councilmember to the Dewan Emas in 1990, as the council was concerned that the immediate insertion of new governance and power to the council would have been disruptive.
A prominent, semi-xenophobic attitude has been present in the archipelagic nations since the early 10th century, with the only previous instance of total unification amongst the various nations being taken by the Tahamaja Empire, an empirical thalassocracy who built a nation on the idea that the outside world, being that of northern Ochran primarily as a scapegoat, would destroy the cultures and freedoms of the island populations, and that only by protecting and serving one another would the archipelagic identities be able to preserve themselves. Whilst the Tahamaja Empire fell by the 12th century due to internal desires for autonomy away from the Birhanu-centric empire, these attitudes of protecting and preserving away from the outside world still resonated with much of the population. This was only solidified by the small examples of colonialism that took place by Mutul in its conflicts with Tsurushima over the viceroyalty within the Northern Autearoan islands, and these attitudes have existed since, with only the establishment of Pulau Keramat, and thus a security blanket of potential protection amongst the nations, marking the beginning of greater efforts to begin to reach out and work with other nations.
With a history of thalassocracies and naval conquests taking place within the archipelago itself, Pulau Keramat takes pride in it’s naval capacities and functionality, having shifted to providing primary militaristic prowess and authority to the Angkatan Emas, a subcouncil voted by the Dewan Emas to preside over militaristic operations within the confederacy. Each individual nation is permitted to hold their own militaristic capacities, but are heavily regulated, with most naval forces, coast guard operations, and training taking place under naval bases and camps under the authority of the Angkatan Emas. Pulau Keramat has taken to signing all existing non-proliferation treatise as possible, with little interest in engaging in nuclear politics, and a greater fear of exploitation by existing factions engaging in ethnic conflicts within the confederacy.
In cultural standards, Pulau Keramat has taken to actively promoting and celebrating a sense of diversity and cultural divergence within the nations, with protections and promotions of indigenous languages, art forms, and histories taken to help promote the idea that all groups within the archipelago find protection and empowerment by the Dewan Emas. The official language of the Pulau Keramat is divergent in each nation, with each primary and secondary language of the nations being recognized and used by all documentation within the Pulau Keramat, albeit Za’gree (Indonesian) is used most often, due to the prominence of the Za’gree speaking population in all countries. The nations within are heavily Buddhist, with large animistic and folk religions finding a resurgence due to the subcouncil of Rumah Emas, which presides over cultural integration and social welfare, promoting and protecting the growth of local religions since the 1988 Indigenous Religions Growth Act. As such, Dewan Emas does not actively promote Buddhism, but indigenous faith practices, which traditionally derive from shamanism, animism, and proto-buddhist practices. Unfortunately, some of these indigenous faiths have found conflict with one another, and such it becomes more apparent where certain faith practitioners may find little of their community exists outside of their own nation of origin. As each indigenous culture is promoted to the fullest of its extent, each individual nation holds independent cultural centers from one another, yet ‘Tau Haurimau’ within Birhanu acts as the center for the Rumah Emas, and is a hub for all cultures of the archipelago to be promoted, with government funded musical halls, art exhibitions, and film festivals becoming a regular notion within the city, and a heavy draw of tourism.
Politically, the Dewan Emas has always leaned on a center-left identity, due to the role of international communications and a willingness to promote a bureaucratic existence beyond one one’s country, so the functionality of the role traditionally sees the elections running in favorship of center-left coalitions, which most moderate center-right entities finding it difficult to get anything done due to years of bureaucratic groundwork within each of the existing sub-councils that contrasts a standard of center-left policy. This led to early establishment of LGBT Rights and Protections, which falls in line with many religious and cultural practices, as well as greater internal immigration standards and policy. However, the variance within each of the existing nations, and their independent governance is between several centre-right and centre-left parties, yet the populistic party in Sinavia, known as ‘Kami Una’ is raising concerns, as the party has built itself on gaining greater autonomy from the Dewan Emas, and is slowly gaining in popularity. Regardless of party, most policy makers agree on two things: in the promotion of international trade, and heavy regulations to any international immigration. The only large ethnic group that is present from outside the indigenous ethnic persons is a moderately large Tsurushiman population, who had been present on Nahkarain before the 1957 Declaration, as well as some Maori population that had been present in Sinavia since the 12th century.
Educationally, the Rumah Emas has established several university campuses across the archipelago, alongside primary school systems that are oriented around providing an education that benefits working under the Dewan Emas as a whole. Each nation state provides its own secondary education systems and pre-schools, with these separations in education level being agreed upon the 1976 Educational Restructuring Act, which tried to balance a level of autonomy for each existing nation, whilst also allowing it’s college populations regular access across the archipelago to experience new cultures. The Naval Academy of Nahkarain has some level of global acclaim for fields of aquatic research, maritime trade, and naval technology, yet has restrictions on the admittance of international students so to help the people of Pulau Keramat first.
The collective economy of the Pulau Keramat confederacy has grown dramatically over the past few decades, as actions to facilitate economic trade and gains in productivity within the nation has allowed for see growth to significant level, boasting harbors for grand maritime operations, and a new field of aquatic research and fishing technologies. Sinavia stands out particularly as being a large source for clean energy, with much of its internal, landlocked terrain being used to host solar and wind farms. The current GDP (PPP) of 2017 stood at $3,057 Billion, and GDP PC at 33,238.

b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: Za’Gree (Indonesian), Rajosi (Thai), Ahlranese (Tagalog), Zahrani (Malay),Tuganani (Hiri Motu), and Tsurushiman (Japanese) are the languages spoken to the largest extent, yet several indigenous languages exist within each nation.
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: 12% Za’Green,10% Tuganani, 12.5% Rajosian, 12.5% Ahlran, 20% Zahrani, 5% Tsurushiman, 5% Maori, 23% various ethnic groups(it is esteemed there are over 55 amongst the archipelagic states, and due to conflicts within )
d) What are the major religions among your population?: Buddhist/Several indigenous religious groups, such as Nnhivara, The Zoa Kip Kong, and Shekenism. Recently, Sadhanan faith has been granted more of a presence amongst the more metropolitan cities within the confederacy, yet there are still restrictions to the presence of it outside of these small urban pockets.
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: Pulau Keramat, with numerous high-traffic harbors and promising opportunities for fair trade agreements, resides between Ochran and the rest of Autearoa, and has worked to facilitate trade to the regions with Oxidentale and Scipia as well. However, this benefit is contrasted to heavy limits on outside immigration into the nation, and the spillover from internal religious conflicts occasionally raises concerns for populations seeking asylum. Economic benefactor to nations interested in free trade, and militaristic power between Autearoa and other regions.
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.): Large Navy, controlled primarily by the Angkatan Emas, with smaller sub-navies under the ownership of each sovereign nation. Coast guard makes approximately 65% of naval operations within Pulau Keramat, and there are little ground based operations of forces, besides the presence of policing forces in each nation, organized and legislated by each individual state.
g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: Heavy cultural, educational(based on Maritime Tech) and economic benefits, and whilst the economic benefits are proliferated tremendously to other countries in hopes of facilitating free trade, limits on tourism and immigration lead to desires for entry into the region, but little capacity for outside nations to do so.
h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so? Either a raise of ethnic and religious tensions that led to declines in trade and international tourist intrigue, a weakening of militaristic capacities, or the presence of various far-right entities that lead to a decline of political cohesivity.

IC Geographical/resource
General lists, we don't expect you to know all the details before joining and getting a map place.
a) What does your nation excel in exporting:Maritime goods and technology, ship parts, raw aquatic resources, and clean energy.
b) What does your nation need to import?:Raw materials like minerals, lumber, and animal produce
c) What is your country self sufficient on?:oil reserves, and labor, as the population prefers not having to immigrate labor within the country.
d) What is your preferred location on the regional map?
I’ve structured this nation to work in an archipelagic state, specifically that of Autearoa, but I am completely ready to structure myself to work in another environment, with a preference for highly oceanic areas. This would also incorporate the Northern Peninsula of the -Australia Adjacent Landmass.

IC National information
a) Nation's IC name: The Principality of Gran Aligonia
b) Nation's IC population: 689,242
c) Nation's IC GDP per capita: 46,945.98 USD
d) Nation's type of government: Principality / Parliamentary Monarchy
e) Nation's head of state: Prince Veremundo Abellán
f) Nation's head of gov’t (if applicable): Grand Minister Vicent Miró

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation: Gran Aligonia is a principality of almost a million people located on the Aligonian archipelago. Though considered a staunchly traditionalist state with an economy based primarily on tourism and shipping, Gran Aligonia now finds itself on the forefront of a new age with the death of its former Prince Joaquin Abellán at 110 years of age. Considered a shipping hub, the port at the capital of Villa Romera generates a large portion of the nation's income, but has led to a rather stratified gap in population between the hyper-rich and often ancient names of the nobility and upper class, and the more diverse but far poorer middle and lower classes, which often split between looking at their rulers with disdain (especially in the age of democracy) and trust.

With Romera's steadfast growth in the last 20 years, the island now finds itself serving as a potential sanctuary for those with financial "issues", often controversially holding people's money overseas, allowing corporations to seek refuge for tax reasons, and promoting a burgeoning gambling industry, particularly in a casino district. The rest of the archipelago is host to a number of smaller settlements; the nation is known for its production of wine, coffee, cheese, and other luxury goods. Many of the world's rich and powerful, particularly from seedier origins, make their homes on Gran Aligonia's smaller islands, many of which are privately owned "retreats" for the hyper rich.

In a modern world and with a new and much younger ruler, Gran Aligonia will have to take care of its steadily growing population, and slowly deal with the issues of greed and stratification as the nation goes from tax haven to potential international diplomatic player.

b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: Aligonian (conlang based in Aragonese with Catalan and Occitan influences)
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Aligonian (upwards of 90%), Various Others (10%).
d) What are the major religions among your population?: Fabrianism (55%), None (23%), Neo-Paganism (22%)
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: I see Gran Aligonia as a seedy island paradise for the world's hyper rich, with its toes dipped firmly in international diplomacy and the encouragement of growth and commerce. In this regard, it can be viewed as a corrupt Monaco; though stable now, it is considered to be far less stable than most of its neighbors, and thus in the future could also be the source of some ethical, geopolitical, or economical drama.

f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.): Gran Aligonia's military force is more akin to two or three detachments of Guardsmen for the Prince's Palace, a nationwide Gendarmerie, and a special forces squad. Otherwise, the nation relies mostly on allies for protection.
g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: Gran Aligonia's primary tools are shipping, tourism, and finance, and it wishes to expand its grasp into all of these phenomena as the new millennium continues to unfold. Porto Romero is a huge shipping hub for both tankers and cruise ships, and the city of Romero itself is poised to be the world's newest financial and gambling capital, holding both a stock market and numerous casinos.
h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so? Start the nation with its current parameters ten years behind it, as it struggles to recover from an earthquake.

c) Other nations:
  • Fakolana
  • Deseret
  • Kronata
IC National information
a) Nation's IC name: Kalakoran Republic
b) Nation's IC population: 23 million
c) Nation's IC GDP per capita: $1,840
d) Nation's type of government: Totalitarian Presidential Dictatorship (currently in civil war)
e) Nation's head of state: President Tanbok Marrot
f) Nation's head of gov’t (if applicable): above

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation: Kalakora is a central government of a totalitarian presidential dictatorship under President Tanbok Marrot, currently engaged in a long-term, multifront, multifaction civil war. This involves three nominal, major sides: Loyalist forces aligned with the Central Government, Opposition forces seeking to take control of the nation at large, and Separatists forces seeking to carve out independent states from the nation. There are also numerous smaller forces, including fundamentalists, nationalists, warlords, etc.

The people of Kalakora have been significantly impacted by the ongoing conflict, including mass displacement and exodus from the nation, and over half a million direct casualties alone. The nation is undergoing mass emigration as people flee the conflict into neighboring Pulau, Tsurushima, and toward Ochran and Belisaria.
b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: Anglic, Mayan, Tsurushimese, Latin, and numerous native Maori/Polynesian languages.
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Various colonial ethnicities, including Arthusians, Tsurushimese, Mutulese, and a number of native polynesian ethnicities.
d) What are the major religions among your population?: Protestant, other Christian sects, Native beliefs
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: Kalakora exists as an ongoing conflict area, with internal dynamics different to more stable nations in the region, and external effects that impact the rest of the region. This includes refugees, international intervention, humanitarian crises, etc.
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.): The central government is fielding the largest army at 365 thousand troops, including the Kalakoran Defense Forces, the National Militia Levies, allied militias, and foreign support.

The opposition forces have, together, between 130 and 180 thousand troops, including the Kalakoran United Front (which itself represents the largest of the opposition forces, including much of the Kalakoran navy due to its control of many of the nation’s ports), the Freedom Legion, and the People’s Liberation Forces.

The separatists forces have, together, around 90 - 130 thousand troops, with the largest contributors being the Belosan Army, the Monouo Legion, and the Daitoan National Army.
g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: Kalakoran is really good at being on fire. The effect on the region is through the collapse of the state, and the resulting humanitarian and international crises.
h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so? More factions, more division, and more hardship. Stripping the central government of even more, as well.

IC Geographical/resource
General lists, we don't expect you to know all the details before joining and getting a map place.
a) What does your nation excel in exporting: Refugees. Prior to the war, phosphorus and rhodium were major exports, being one of the largest deposits in the world. The war has disrupted this, though, with possible effects on the rest of the world.
b) What does your nation need to import?: Food, Aid, and especially military equipment
c) What is your country self sufficient on?: This is hard to answer, given that some areas are still able to produce, but everything goes toward the war effort. Much of the production of the nation has been hampered or destroyed by the war.
d) What is your preferred location on the regional map?

c) Other nations: tulura

IC National information
a) Nation's IC name: Almadis
b) Nation's IC population: 37 million
c) Nation's IC GDP per capita: $5,762
d) Nation's type of government: Absolute Monarchy
e) Nation's head of state: Empress/Candace Persinna VIII
f) Nation's head of gov’t (if applicable): nah

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation: Almadis has been a center of cultural diffusion and conflict for a millennia and still remains as such, a country of controversy. Yet, there is an old mysticism and venerable respect for the ancient land which holds some of the oldest histories and cultures in the world. From Sosfari conquest, Mesfid Yen conquest, Tuluran Conquest and Hellenic Conquest, the land has stood distinct and unbowed. The first inhabitants of the region are the Taphet, who founded the Dakkali Empire which lasted from 2800 BCE to Mesfin's conquest, in around 950 CE.

In post-Mesfid times, the region was a collection of Princedoms and Sultanates that rivaled eachother, from the plains desert Nogmerei of the east; to the Taphet people of the highland valleys in the west; as well as the affluent Ahar of the southern coast. The Kirid Caliphate would be the first time Almadis was vaguely united under one banner before the Hellenic invasions of the north, and Yen Sakbe invasions through the west. It was during these invasions that the matriarch of the Taphet people, as well as the Dakkali and Kirid Empire, known as the Kandake or Candace, would flee south and establish the first instance of 'Tulura', under new guidance the Imperial Kandake's would become 'lifae and amass wealth from coastal trade city tributaries in their new conquest. They would also assimilated Sosfari culture, as well as Hellenic culture and centralize Tulura in periods of unification from the middle ages to 19th century.

Some time in some century however, a Hellenic pretender would claim the Tuluran throne and expand Hellenic domain south, to claim Tulura's many gold reserves in the name of the false christian god their christian god. This new Empress would rule with an iron fist and entrench herself on the Kandake throne while proclaiming independence from Tarsas. Thus, a new Tuluran Empire ruled by a Hellenic, christian Kandake that would reign until the War of Ten Thousand Leagues, this period in Tulura is known as the 'Unholy Times', however in what is now Almadis, the majority christian north enjoyed peak times of industrialization and prosperity in few parts that were not Azdarin. By the time of the TTL war, it was apparent that converting Tulura was a lost cause and the christian faith had become an upper class religion, emblematic of the Imperial Kandake line.

The war had cost the country dearly and even more, empowered Yen Tulura to rebel with overwhelming force. With Tuluran upheaval concentrated in the south, the royal family would flee north, to their ancient ancestral homeland, and lead a monarchist resistance to establish Almadis with Tarsan support. The new, democratic Tulura was powerless to stop its formation and so were the many Yen peoples within Almadis. The newly proclaimed country's attempts to conquer Tulura and re-establish their empire ultimately failed and drew distinct boundaries lasting into modern day. Today, Almadis is full of internal conflict and upheaval, propped up by Tarsas and other monarchist, holding a claim to Arimal, the former heart of the Empire within Tulura. The population is divided mostly by religion and conflict in centered around both their struggles, Yen seeing the monarchy as tyrannical and Christians seeing the Monarchy as divine. The country is also a source of wider geopolitical contention, especially with Tulura and Tarsas.

b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: Hellenic, Arabic, Old Taphet, Old Sosfari, Nogmere, Ahar, Wanarei
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Almadisi, Arabic, Taphetan, Ahari, Nogmer, Sosfari
d) What are the major religions among your population?: Christianity, Azdarin, Zoroastrianism, local animist religions
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: a geopolitical hotspot for tension between Tulura and whoever else, mainly Tarsas.
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.): An awful, fanatic third world army that dresses fancy in imperial regalia and mainly uses old Tarsan/Belisarian equipment.
g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: ill have to sit on this one
h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so? what more do you want from me

f) Nation's head of gov’t (if applicable): The Eminent Popular Council of the Union

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation: The Iskail Archipelago is believed to have been populated since July 12th, 122 BC, on the same day as a total eclipse covering the islands. The origin of its first inhabitants is largely unknown, but what is known is that the islands were organized into polities early on known as Totos, hundreds of village-states riddled with hundreds of exclaves apiece. In 891, though, Tiuka Xtaxoe unified the islands and declared himself Emperor, collectively naming them the Iskail. His empire would reign for another 500 years until 1402, when a collection of academics radicalized the population and convinced them to overthrow the monarchy and establish a democracy led by Emperors-Elect.
Within decades of this, however, the Latin Empire discovered the islands, and finding them unreceptive to conquering, rigged their next elections such that the next Emperors-Elect were Latin stooges. This state of affairs lasted another three centuries, with the Iskail nominally independent but in practice subject to the wills of the Latin Emperor; after a series of terrorist attacks from Iskailer separatists, however, one leading to the deaths of hundreds in Castellum ab Alba, the Latins elected to cut their losses and granted the islands full independence. Nnettoi Kalylystu Ho, a baker-turned-activist who had taken the hearts of the nation, was elected in a landslide and created the Charter of the Union, the constitution of the islands and the basis of a political stability that's lasted to this day.
b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: Most of the nation natively speaks a language of the Koi Dialect Continuum, with each island of the Iskail having its own dialect, sometimes distinct enough to be unintelligible to the majority of other speakers. Standardized Koi, a prestige version of the Grand Kylou dialect, is the primary lingua franca for inter-island communication, and most Iskailers speak their native dialect and the Standardized language; many also speak Latin, particularly the younger generations and those with international jobs.
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Ethnic Iskailers make up the majority of the nation, although their origin is famously unknown -- many assume, based on their darker skin tone, that they're descended from Scipians, but genetic studies have found little Scipian ancestry. Regardless, they make up 82% of the nation, with Belisarian and Scipian immigrants, usually fishermen whose ancestors sought better waters, making up most of the rest.
d) What are the major religions among your population?: The Lucan Catholic Church of the Iskail, a particular church in full communion with the Fabrian Pope, is the largest religion in the Iskail, making up 89% of the population; the rest is primarily made up of other Catholics, Jews, and traditional animists.
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: A pretty small one, not really affecting many people beyond its neighbors. Would probably serve as a good setting for any story that needs somewhere stable, foreign, and quaint.
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.): Small and quaint, possibly acting in tandem with some of its neighbors in the event of a multinational intervention but mostly keeping to itself and policing its own waters. Notably there is a compulsory conscription, although it can be deferred in favor of a non-military public service role.
g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: The Iskail is a pretty impotent nation at the moment, probably on the level of Cabo Verde irl, but there's a growing movement to try to make a more international name for itself through finance and diplomacy. That's pretty minor, though, so while there might be some it'll mostly just be a quaint archipelago way out in the ocean
h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so? No idea why I would be but sure?

General information
a) Time on Nationstates: 13 years (geez - talk about feeling old!)
b) Previous regions:
  • Astyria
  • I am drawing a blank here but I was in another about 5 years back with Jenrak...the name escapes me

IC National information
a) Nation's IC name: The People's Republic of Sampeng
b) Nation's IC population: 121.3 mil
c) Nation's IC GDP per capita: 2,343.12 USD
d) Nation's type of government: Communist One Party State
e) Nation's head of state: Piyapon Huy Khánh (known coloquially as simply Piyapon)
f) Nation's head of gov’t (if applicable): Tram Tomsun

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation: Sampeng is a communist one party state that overthrew the Sampeng monarchy during the 1960's. Despite the communist ideology, Vietnam has a growing economy and seeks to become a major developed economy in the coming decade.
b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: Thai, Vietnamese
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Sampengese, Huxiao, Choi, Mongalthese, Shao
d) What are the major religions among your population?: Sampengese folk religion, Buddhism, Christianity
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: A small communist state with a bolstering economy - possibly fitting into canon by augmenting trade and assisting communist neighbors in the struggle to liberate the proletariat. Also, if anyone wants, feel free to colonize Sampeng at some point prior to the revolution.
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.): The Sampeng People's Ground Forces fulfill the role of a traditional army, the Sampeng People's Navy patrols Sampeng's waterways, the Sampeng People's Air Force ensures air supremacy over the skies of Sampeng, the Sampeng Border Defence Force ensures territorial integrity and the Sampeng Coast Guard ensures security within the Sampeng EEZ. The entire Sampeng military is made up of roughly 500,000 active members, although a conscripted paramilitary force known as the Sampeng Civil Defense Force, which acts as a kind of reserve, as well as the Sampeng People's Public Security force - a nationwide gendarme - can bring the numbers of men-at-arms to over 5 million in the event of crisis.
g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: The people of Sampeng are fiercely loyal to the defense of their homeland, and are also staunch supporters of the communist ideology. The nation also has an up-and-coming economy and a powerful manufacturing capacity that is still not yet fully tapped into.
h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so? Numbers can be reduced - especially concerning the paramilitary force - if needed.

Application
General information
a) Time on Nationstates: Newly minted Cynereth a few days ago, been an on-again, off-again lurker for months.
b) Previous regions: None
  • N/A
c) Other nations: Cynereth is my only account.
  • N/A

IC National information
a) Nation's IC name: The Concordance of Cynereth [Formal] / The Cynerethic Empire, the Concordance [Informal]
b) Nation's IC population: 67.5 Million Inhabitants (Population is Flexible)
c) Nation's IC GDP per capita: $42,453 (GDP Per Capita - Again, Flexible)
d) Nation's type of government: Theocratic Monarchy with Limited Democracy Divested to Local Municipalities
e) Nation's head of state: The Holy Matron Selania III, Aunura of Lady Rukka and Empress of the Concordance of Cynerethic Provinces and Amalgamated Territories of the Same
f) Nation's head of gov’t (if applicable): Aunura Selania III (Imperial / Religious); Consul Castar M. Suva, Dralin of Laeleath (Military)

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation:
The Concordance is a nation of contradictions: a self-styled territorial empire with machinations of neutrality and non-alignment; a religious theocracy of stringent moral consonance that facilitates the exploitation of the very affairs its deity abhors. The nation is given to intrigue, from the competition amongst the major clans to the blood money being exchanged in the catacombs of its ancient cities and its hidden places. The only truth in Cynereth is that truth has no meaning.

b) What languages are spoken in your nation?:
The primary language is Cyneric, itself subdivided into two subsets - the liturgical Drea Cyneric spoken by the clergy and the patricians, and the Vulgate-esque Fala Cyneric spoken amongst the common people. English is ubiquitous as a trade language, and is the most commonly-taught second language in Cynerethic schools. A variety of other, lesser tongues are present in trace amounts among the population.

c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?:
The Concordance is overwhelming homeland of the Cynerethic peoples, a Germanic ethnic group whose relative isolation and internal intrigue facilitated a unique cultural evolution over the centuries. The Caenari and Ilewei represent the only significant minorities in the Concordance.

d) What are the major religions among your population?:
The nation, by construct, is a theocratic empire of long-standing design. The chief religion of the national ontogeny, and by far its most influential cultural modifier, is Anaryssia. Over four-fifths of the national population claim adherence to the polytheistic faith, either in direct spiritual practice or as a non-spiritual philosophical practice. Religious pluralism came late to the Concordance, but Christian and Islamic minorities do exist; atheism and secular humanism have also made gains over the last century.

e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?:
Cynereth may not be the biggest dog in the proverbial fight, but it will certainly provide its fair share of intrigue. Characters, robust and full of personality, are what really draw me to writing; that and a wanton disregard for proper grammar and syntax. Creating a new world with new friends is definitely something that would help me ease into the community here.

f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.):
The military forces of Cynereth are uniquely instituted along both religious and familial lines, with the various institutions coordinated through a central command controlled by the Dralin, or 'Overlord'. Different liturgical and/or monastic orders, such as the Malthudians, Sadeans and Thaenul possess military capabilities of varying strengths. These competing factions offer intrigue during times of peace, as dictated through religious doctrine. The nation's national police force, the Erannul is militarized, and serves as the de facto home guard of the nation, while the secretive Thalian Nul serves as its chief intelligence agency, and the Faellorn its secret police.

All able-bodied individuals are expected to serve three years' conscripted service in either the Erannul or one of the chief military orders of the state. Preoccupied largely with internal security and peace-keeping roles within its own territorial hegemony, the active doctrine of internalization has begun to fade in recent years with the advent of the rule of Selania III and her more foreign-minded policies of expansion and influence-peddling. Approximately 300,000 citizens currently serve in an active capacity in the defense and policing of the state, while another 75,000 retain status as reservists, and a further one million on file as emergency draftees in the event of a national crisis.

g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures:
The nation's key strength lies in its relative stability politically: most of the nation's intrigue happens within the framework of an intricate power structure that allows for most drama to take place behind the scenes, in the shadows. Economically strong but lacking in the ability to force-project militarily on the level of a true regional power, Cynereth's active strength lies in its economic resources and its budding scientific community more so than its strength at arms. The country's raw natural resources, most notably silver have allowed considerable wealth into the country, though said-wealth has also created dramatic income inequality in the state.

h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?
I'm amenable to making any and all changes necessary to facilitating good story-telling. My nation, by design, is a nation of considerable culture and prestige, but limited influence outside of its immediate region (meaning relative neighborhood nationally-speaking). The creation of my country would coincide with the general conceit of watching the nation try to grow and expand its influence into political spheres it has no major history of exploiting. Imagine if the real-life Swiss Confederation suddenly abandoned its neutrality and attempted to begin shaking the corridors of power in the Eurozone.

IC Geographical/resource
General lists, we don't expect you to know all the details before joining and getting a map place.
a) What does your nation excel in exporting: Minerals, Natural Gas, Petroleum, Raw Materials
b) What does your nation need to import?: Foodstuffs, Commercial Goods and Refined Products
c) What is your country self sufficient on?: The country is a net-exporter of natural gas, and meets 85% of its domestic oil needs. Other sectors vary in strength, but fall short of the definition of self-sufficiency by international standards.
d) What is your preferred location on the regional map? - Because the culture is basically a customized creation, I'm just happy to find any landing spot, provided there's a coastline somewhere. We love our sunsets, so the further west we can go the better, perhaps?

Regional history
a) Were you recommended to Ajax?: No, found the regional recruitment thread.

6: Roleplay history

(Since I have no active roleplay history, I've included the first few paragraphs of a short story I'm working on as a sample. If need-be I can put together something specific to my nation once I've done more fleshing out of my characters)

There was a long, silvery strand of hair that kept flowing in her face. The sun had scorched her, weathering the creases in her skin beyond her years. Yet the fire in her eyes was still there, still burning with an intensity that matched the hottest of forges. Her figure was silhouetted against the bluffs in the distance, the evening sun casting an ethereal shadow over her, as if she were part woman, part angel. It was the divine figure of his blessed fortune, the merit for his labor in the torment of the wilderness.

John wiped at the beads of sweat from his brow, scowling as his eyes drifted back to the sledge resting on the ground by his leg. Calloused hands and bad manners were no prize for the fairer sex, and if the foreman caught him falling behind again, he’d be rustling cattle and outrunning deputies in Arizona Territory again. The work was backbreaking, but it beat starving in the old country. It also beat wasting away in the mills back East, party to the political strife that was dividing loved ones and kin.

As the eldest McKinnon son, John had taken it upon himself to support his mother and siblings by taking a job with the Union Pacific Railroad, working as a day laborer and track layer for the princely sum of five dollars a month. Every scrap of his coin – what didn’t find its way into the saloon tent that was – went to support his loved ones in Virginia. Though he missed the hills of his native Wicklow, the starving times that had sapped Ireland of its vigor had forced his father to move the family to America.

The ‘Land of Opportunity’ … what a cruel mistress!

Consumption had taken his father shortly upon arrival, the life drained from him by the cruelest of torments. Work had been hard to come by thanks to the glut of immigrants fleeing from famine and pestilence, and the slave markets in Richmond supplanted the handiwork of the poor immigrants. His mother abhorred the practice, being a devout Catholic; he’d been cross with God for some time, and had never concerned the plight of others. His convictions hadn’t led him West; only the promise of a paying job, away from the prying eyes of the heathen taskmasters who browbeat his kin for their curse of birth.

With each swing of the sledge, the ties found the mark, driving deeper into the quiet earth, the ground bleeding soil and dust. Yet with each tie driven into place, his eyes kept drifting to the foreman’s aide, his helpmeet. She couldn’t have been more than thirty years old, her silvery hair caught by the prairie breeze. Her beauty was betrayed by the fierceness in her gaze; it was the gaze of a predator. Someone that served, but would never truly be a servant. There was untamed majesty in her gait, a freeness of spirit that bequeathed mystery and intrigue. He couldn’t take his eyes off of her.
