Welcome to Republica, Free Republics for the 3rd edition of the World Softball Classic. 10 teams have entered this tournament and have been drawn into 2 groups of 5. This is the place to post your roster and RPs and is also the place where I will be posting results. If you are not participating in the tournament (i.e. are not listed in the group draw below), you should not post in this thread. Purely OOC posts should be posted in the OOC Thread (formerly the signup thread) but OOC notes are allowed in an RP or roster post.

This tournament will be scorinated with Baseinator 1.1, which supports style modifiers between -5 and +5 (including all decimal numbers in that range). Per NS Sports custom, negative style mods indicate a team built around pitching and defense while positive style mods indicate a team built around hitting. Baseinator also supports park factors but they will be set to 100 (neutral) for the duration of this tournament.

Free Republics National Information

History of the Free Republics

The Federation of Free Republics was formed in 1767, following decades of revolutions in the Greater Republica region. In the previous few decades, there had been a wave of revolutions. The ideas of liberalism had become popular in the region, as Abram Schmitts, an economist from Shostistan, wrote several books promoting the benefits of capitalizm. Soon, absolute monarchies fell throughout the Greater Republica region. The Kingdom of Saintland remained unaffected by this wave of revolutions, due to its self-imposed isolation.

Following the revolutions, there were now many Republics scattered throughout the region. These Republics faced seemingly constant attempts from reactionary elements to reverse the revolution and bring back absolute monarchy. They also had trouble trading and communicating with one another. The newly free, with a lowercase f, Republics had numerous antiquated laws and contradictory systems of measurement in effect. A foot in Vorita was 2 feet in Amolotopia and a meter in Roxawa was a decimeter in Nejax. It was a total mess all around. This mess was made even worse by the multitude of languages spoken in the different Republics. As they sought to eliminate trade barriers and forge closer ties between one another, their efforts resulted in confusion. In the days of absolute monarchy, the inability to speak one another's language was a benefit, since kings were always waging wars against one another. However, as the Industrial Revolution heated up and brought an unprecedented degree of prosperity to the land, they could no longer maintain separate languages, separate measurements and the arcane laws and regulations that were hindering commerce in the region.

Then, a rebellion broke out in the Republic of Roxawa. The rebels sought to abolish all property, all laws and even government itself. Rampaging around the countryside, they attacked government buildings, vandalized property and stole whatever they felt like. All the while, they spoke of total freedom. Terrifying the Republic's well-armed militia into inaction, the rebel crime spree continued for weeks. Fear spread throughout the region that other "rebellions" of this sort would soon break out, providing the perfect excuse for the Federationists. The leaders of 77 Republics throughout the region agreed to send delegates to the city of Baseton in Amolotopia to discuss an appropriate response to the rebellion. This was a pretext, which was seized upon by the Federationists to push their "Constitution" scheme.

The Federationists proposed that a document called a "Constitution" would establish a new unified government of all of the Republics, known as the Federation Government. This would be a relatively weak government, as the Republics would remain mostly autonomous and generally free to do as they wished in governing themselves. The Federation Government would have an enumerated list of responsibilities, such as promoting commerce, maintaining a common foreign policy and common immigration policy and several other minor tasks, such as the option to establish a national postal system.

The Constitution guaranteed a number of fundamental rights. Among them are the rights to freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion and the right to own weapons for the defense not only of oneself and of the Federation, but also against tyranny. Other provisions of the Constitution prohibited unreasonable searches, cruel and unusual punishments and double jeopardy. The document also included a strict prohibition on the practice of slavery and declared immediately and permanently free any "slave" that was brought within any territory subject to the Free Republics. The Federation Government has the power to pass any legislation it deems necessary to free slaves. While ratification was controversial, due to the feeling among many people that the Federation Government was too powerful, it was eventually ratified by the electorate in each of the original 77 Republics. Today, there are the number of Republics in the Federation is well into the hundreds.

The Constitution created a bicameral Legislature and an executive branch where power is shared equally by the 2 heads of state. The Assembly is the popularly elected branch of the Legislature. Originally, it used a first-past-the-post system, but this was later changed to proportional representation after political parties and coalitions became the norm. The entire Assembly has always been up for re-election every second year. The Senate, by contrast, is a purely appointed branch and Senators serve for life terms. When a Senator is elected to another office, he becomes an inactive Senator, but other than such periods when he may serve in other offices, he is a Senator for life, without exception. Each Republic may appoint a new Senator every second year and Senators are appointed in the same years when Assembly elections are held. Finally, the Consuls are elected to 8 year terms, with a new Consul elected every 4th year. This means that every other Assembly election is held simultaneously with a Consul election. The Constitution prohibits any Consul from serving more than a single term per lifetime. Originally, Consuls were also elected first-past-the-post, but that has since changed to a 3 round system. In the first round, the top 2 candidates, plus any other candidates that get at least 10 percent of the vote advance, assuming that no candidate gets a majority of the vote. The second round sees the top 2 candidates advance, again assuming that nobody wins a majority of the votes cast. In the third and final round, whoever wins the majority of votes cast is elected. Both Consuls have and have always had full power to veto any act of the other and former Consuls automatically become Senators upon the expiration of their term in office.

The government of the Free Republics quickly moved to standardize the system of measurements used throughout the Federation and adopt English as the national language. To help transition the Federation to an English-speaking nation, the Federation Government established a system of schools funded by the Federation Government, which ensured that the next generation would speak English and identify themselves as Republicans, rather than identifying themselves by their home Republic and speaking their Republic's native language. A substantial minority of parents resisted this effort, but children were allowed to go to school and learn English, whether or not they had parental permission. By 1830, almost everybody spoke English and identified as a Republican, not an Amolotopian, Roxawan, Voritan, Schost or whatever the demonym was for their home Republic. This brought about a more unified society. Around this time, education was returned to the Republics, most of which eventually adopted a voucher based system.

The government also banned trade barriers between Republics. This was an expected and noncontroversial move. The funding of the government by a tariff also proved uncontroversial, since politicians generally agreed that the tariff should be limited to revenue only and not used to "protect" industries from competition. However, an income tax was eventually adopted as foreign imports began to dry up. The Republican economy was simply too much of a powerhouse to justify importing goods from abroad. Discontent with the income tax grew as the government kept pushing it higher and higher. Finally, Paul Musgrove ran for Consul on a platform of capping all taxes at 10 percent of income. After his election, the amendment passed both the Assembly and the Senate before being sent directly to referendum. Voters in every Republic overwhelmingly voted for it and it became a popular amendment.

In the 20th century, the Free Republics became even more of an economic powerhouse, thanks to the capitalizt economic system. Business thrived in the FFR, as the nation became progressively wealthier. Over the years, the FFR has expanded its territory while remaining on the cutting edge of technological advancement. In the present day, the Free Republics have a population in the billions and are one of the wealthiest nations in the multiverse, with a correspondingly high rate of income inequality. The exact population of the Free Republics is unknown, due to a Constitutional amendment adopted in 1934, which prohibited the taking of a Census by any entity, whether governmental or otherwise.

Several years ago, the Free Republics were left leaderless following the death of both Consuls within the span of a few months, one of them via assassination. In the chaos, Reino Kulseth of the Holy Party was elected Consul and gradually obtained dictatorial power for himself at the expense of the nation's Republican institutions. Kulseth established a tyrannical government that passed laws against lying (despite routinely lying to their own people) and mandating the use of the word "thou" instead of you in most circumstances. Kulseth dragged the nation into a large-scale war that proved extremely costly for both sides and which led to his downfall.

In the end, the Republican people rose up against Kulseth and, aligned with several foreign armies, brought down Kulseth's "Holy Republican Empire" and brought back the Federation of Free Republics. Robert Nicholls, the father of Veleik Nicholls (leader of the popular revolt) and owner of Nicholls Enterprises, was named the new Acting Consul until such time as the normal electoral process could elect his replacement. However, the following election led to the rise to power of another tyrant, Consul Caleb O'Reilly, who jailed Acting Consul Nicholls and basically turned over control of the country to a hivemind of robots which oppressed the people of the nation until one day when hackers disabled the robots and Consul O'Reilly resigned from office, claiming to have been under hypnosis during his entire time as Consul. In the aftermath, Consul Nicholls was restored to power as the Senior Consul as the FFR gears up for another election. Consul Nicholls intends to spend his time as Consul restoring the Free Republics to its former glory and is relieved that the Republican people will selected retired soccer player and current professional wrestler Kyle Bolton to be their new Junior Consul in the recent election.

Transportation

Just about every mode of transportation is an option in the Free Republics. Visitors for the World Softball Classic may arrive at any seaport or airport in the Free Republics. Planes and ships may also be used to travel between cities. As the Free Republics spans 4 continents and many thousands of miles, the use of planes is recommended for long-distance travel.

Several private companies offer high speed rail between cities. It is possible to travel through most of the Free Republics on high-speed rail, although in some places you may have to walk across the city to a competing company's station to go to your desired destination.

The use of bicycles, although unregulated, is not recommended. The Free Republics are simply too vast a nation, so players and fans that travel by bike risk missing a match altogether.

Taxis are available in every city that will be hosting World Softball Classic games. Most bus services cover a radius of less than 100 miles, so the use of buses is only recommended for short distance travel.

Automobiles are legal in the Free Republics and can be rented near any airport or seaport. Travel by automobile is possible to any nation located on one of the 4 continents upon which the Free Republics are located. However, as the Republican continents are located in Greater Republica, it is not possible to travel by automobile to-or-from the Free Republics and any other nation participating in the World Softball Classic. Anybody who intends to rent a car is strongly encouraged to get a Republican drivers license, as foreign drivers licenses are only recognized in certain Republics. Most Republics will hand out a drivers license to anybody that applies and passes the driving test. The difficulty of these tests varies greatly by Republics. The test in Nejax is notoriously easy while the test in Amolotopia is notorious as one of the most difficult. Despite this, all Republics are required by Federation law to recognize out-of-Republic drivers licenses as valid. A wide variety of cars are commonly available in the Free Republics, such as SUVs, sports cars and pick-up trucks. Those that have money to burn may rent luxury cars or limos. The vast majority of cars on the road are produced in the Free Republics. Many roads, especially long distance roads, are underfunded and in poor condition, so planes and high speed rail are much more popular in the Free Republics.

Lodging

There are numerous hotel firms throughout the Free Republics. Participating nations will be required to pay for their own lodging. We encourage participating teams to visit hotels.co.republica and purchase rooms before the rush. Those that wait may very well end up staying in a cheap motel with holes in the walls and bedbugs under the sheets.

Those national teams that do not wish to stay in hotels may stay at campgrounds outside of the host city.

Weather

The Free Republics has a varied climate but as the World Softball Classic will be held during the summer in Republica, there will be warm weather for the duration of the competition. Rain and thunderstorms may or may not make an appearance as well.

Language

The official language of the Free Republics is English and all government documents are printed in English. Most private businesses do not print anything in a non-English language. While the rise of xenophobia in the Free Republics has subsided, most Republicans still don't speak any languages other than English. The most common foreign language spoken in the Free Republics is Latin, due to the influence of the Church of Saintland in recent years, but its use is currently frowned upon because of the language's association with the former Kulseth dictatorship.

Currency

The Republican Thaler is the only widely accepted currency in the Free Republics. Financial institutions are generally willing to change Sanctii bullion, Acedonian Aces or Universal Standard Dollars into Thalers. Due to the large number of currencies in the world, it is impossible for financial institutions in the Free Republics to keep track of all of them. Therefore, it is highly recommend that everybody visiting the Free Republics get their currency converted into Thalers, USDs or bullion before entering the Free Republics. Non-Republican Thalers, such as the Taxachusetts Thaler (which was notorious for its extremely high inflation rates), are not accepted as currency in the Free Republics and are not convertible into Republican Thalers.

Entertainment

There are a plethora of entertainment options in the Free Republics. Every quality hotel room comes equipped with cable or satellite television, including thousands of channels and an interactive program guide. No matter what your preferences, you can probably find something on Republican television that you'd want to watch. If you can't find anything to watch on TV, you can always log on to Sanctustube, a video sharing website from West Saintland, and browse the uncensored version of the site, which has (illegal) copies of just about every television program and movie in the multiverse.

Virtually every town in the Free Republics includes a movie theater, which is a popular social hangout. Tickets are relatively inexpensive, to keep an endless flow of teenagers coming into the movie theaters. Concerts are held in the major cities on a near-daily basis and there are several popular groups in each major genre.

Nightclubs and bars are available in virtually every village, town or city in the entire Federation. The local laws do differ, but most Republics will allow anybody over the age of 15 or so to enter a bar or nightclub. Strip clubs and brothels are also popular, although the regulation of those establishments greatly differs in each Republic. Women should be forewarned that the definition of consent in the Free Republics tends to be somewhat looser than they may be used to.

In the past, pro wrestling has been a popular form of entertainment in the Free Republics, especially among guys between the ages of 13 and 30. The wrestling company in the Free Republics put on extremely violent and sexualized shows. As their shows grew more explicit, their ratings steadily increased to the point where they were once of the most popular programs on television in the Free Republics. The Republican Wrestling Conglomerate attempted international expansion at one time, but the rise of Consul Kulseth and the restrictions he imposed on the content of their programming eventually drove them out of business. Abelino Sagese, their former owner, has now established the New Republican Wrestling Conglomerate, but it is not yet as popular as its predecessor.

Republican entertainment has been hit hard by the Kulseth and O'Reilly regimes, but businesses in that sector are currently trying to revive it. The Republican video game industry, long dominated by the RepublicSoft Saint, a device created as part of a partnership between RepublicSoft and the Sanctii government, has been hit particularly hard due to RepublicSoft's extremely close ties to the Kulseth regime. Republican gamers are currently enjoying the Miktondo Flip, a Taiyouese import that was the first to release of a new generation of handheld gaming devices while increasing numbers of Republican computer users have begun migrating to open source alternatives to RepublicSoft's Doors operating system, particularly after the free upgrade to Doors 12 was discovered to contain numerous backdoors designed to aid the efforts of the Kulseth government to spy on its citizens and Citrus Computing was discovered to have collaborated with the O'Reilly regime.

Important Laws

For the most part, visiting teams and fans will not have to worry about any unusual laws in the Free Republics. While public nudity statutes remain on the books in many Republics and around half of the Republics restrict the use of hard drugs, pornography, prostitution, alcohol, tobacco and cannabis are generally legal. In fact, pornography is legal everywhere in the FFR, as it is recognized by the Federation courts as freedom of speech. While many of these activities were barred at the request of the Kulseth regime and later barred again by the O'Reilly regime, there has been a push since the fall of the dictatorships to legalize them as widely as possible. However, laws against abortion tend to vary between Republics and some Republics have made it a crime to utilize their transportation infrastructure to travel to another Republic to procure an abortion.

Some Republics have their share of silly laws. The Constitutional provision prohibiting "cruel and unusual punishment" does not have as strong of an effect as you might expect because the Federation courts use an 18th century definition of cruel and unusual punishment. While nobody's going to be hung, drawn and quartered or tortured for evidence, several backwater Republics do practice some rather bizarre punishments for crimes. If you're going to run into any legal problems, it will probably be in some backwater Republic, since they are the main power base of extremist politicians in the Free Republics. Even under the Kulseth and O'Reilly Consulships, the federal system remained largely intact, so many of these extremist politicians have been in power since the days before Kulseth's rise.

In particular, women visiting the Free Republics should be mindful that sexual consent is defined slightly more broadly than they may be used to. The Free Republics has traditionally had a very sex-positive culture for the most part and has tended to be suspicious at times regarding the reliability of accusations of sexual crimes. The different sexual norms in the Free Republics have caused several international incidents in the past. Sexual norms changed during the Kulseth regime and have yet to fully return to the way that they were. Given Kulseth's popularity among Republican women, it is doubtful that the old sexual culture will ever be fully restored but there are many Republicans who long for a return to normalcy, including the old sexual norms, at the present time.

Stadiums

During the World Softball Classic, there will be a single host stadium, which will host all tournament games throughout the duration of the tournament.

Gem of the Oceans Stadium

Located in Republica, the capitol of the Free Republics, Gem of the Oceans Stadium is a massive stadium that seats 101,208 fans. Gem of the Oceans Stadium is named after the National Anthem of the Free Republics. Republica is located near the center of the Free Republics, but is slightly north of the true center.

West Phoenician Mountain Lions

The West Phoenician Mountain Lions will be the first unisex international sporting team. In the passed sports have been seperated by gender. As both the male and female softball teams on a national level are of the same calibre, it would have been unfair to send one gender over the other to the World Softball Classic. The idea of a mixed unisex team was suggested with rostering the best of the best from both softball leagues.

Becuse the Alpine Union doesn't have many female baseball/softball players, the Softball Classic is played between the WBC and the olympiads. This is the same exact roster that will be sent at the olympiads.

New Jarwelian National Team: The Blue Lions

The New Jarwelian National Softball Team Is full of the best female softball and baseball players from all over the country. These players all play for professional leagues and quite a few were raised on the sport that they today love. The major leagues that these players come from are the Jarwelian Softball League (JSL), The Jarwelian Baseball League (JBL), The Northern Provincial Softball League (NPSL), The Western Provincial Softball League (WPSL), and one player from The Yukon Softball League (YSL).

Chiarina Is one of the best female managers to ever grace the country. The prodigy of Antonio Mardizo one of the best Jarwelian Baseball Coaches, started her couching career with a team on the verge of folding due to poor success, The Calgary Aces of the Jarwelian Softball League. She turned the losers into one of the best teams with five championships, six one hundred win seasons, and 3 manager of the year awards. She Is planning on returning to Calgary next year.

One of the most dominating pitchers of recent memory, Aliyya came to New Jarwel as an immigrant after leaving Saudi Arabia as a baby. She became a citizen and started playing softball for her high school team which soon became the best school In the nation at softball. She graduated at seventeen and instead of going to play softball at college decided to take the opportunity to play professional softball In the JSL. She went into the draft and was picked In the fourth round by the Edmonton Flyers and instantly became a star by winning the rookie of the year with a 24-7 record and 1.98 ERA. She has won three Pitcher Of The Year Awards and one MVP.

#2- Hachirou Hamasaki, LHP Age 19 (Female)
Career Stats (Two Seasons)- 63-6, 1.79 ERA, 601 K's- Montreal Bulldogs (JBL), Calgary Aces (JSL)
Hachirou will be making her baseball debut next year after absolute dominating the JSL the past two years winning two Pitcher Of The Year's But surprisingly no MVP. She started her career as a seventeen year old coming out of Vancouver and was selected early by the legendary coach that Is coaching the team this year, Chiarina Naldi. At the time It was a shocker pick, but as some remember not going to college doesn't effect everyone. Few though remember Aliyya Karim from a few years earlier who didn't go to college but Chiarina did and took the move. After starting off the year 0-3 Hachirou went on a tearing spree winning thirty one games the rest of the year and not losing one. The next year she started off with the same domination winning thirty two games this time and losing two. During the offseason she was approached and asked to go into the JBL draft where she was selected with the third pick.

#3- Lilian Traverse, LHP, Age 23
Career Stats (Four Seasons)- 128-13, 2.47 ERA, 843 K's- Whitehorse Great North (YSL)
Lilian after making her debut at nineteen has been a solid part of the Great North rotation was a shocker to many to be selected to the National Team due to the fact of her being in a small league but due to her dominance Manager Naldi made the decision to put her on the National Team. Lilian selected to play on the Great North shortly after the YSL was formed. She went to the league owner and asked to be put In the league draft which would select the teams. As the teams were male the owner was reluctant but accepted. Lilian didn't know the league was all-male until the draft when she saw only men were being drafted. After figuring out and being asked to be exit the draft If she wanted to she denied the offer and was selected In the 42nd round by the Great North. She instanly became the star of the team and the league winning Rookie Of The Year, All Four MVP's that the league has given out, and all four Pitcher Of The Year Awards Given Out.

#4- Olivia Ramos RHP, Age 29
Career Stats (Twelve Seasons)- 251-104, 2.89 ERA, 2134K's- Vancouver Sailors (WPSL)
Olivia Is one of the more experienced players on the team with twelve years of experience under her belt. After being born to a lower class family In Winnipeg. Olivia's family moved to Vancouver where Olivia fell in love with softball when she was seven. She went around playing for any kid league In the greater Vancouver area. She instantly became one of the best players that the area had seen. When she started high school at thirteen she joined the High School team and led the team to four straight national titles. After skipping college she went into the JSL draft but due to the fact she didn't go to college she was passed on by many teams. She was disappointed but when she found out about the WPSL she went into the draft the day before It started. She was passed on by many teams and thinking she wouldn't be drafted she left early looking for a job knowing she couldn't use her scholarships. On her way to her apartment though she got a call from the management of Vancouver that she had been drafted. She instantly became one of the best In the league winning 28 games In her first year and winning Pitcher Of The Year along with Rookie Of The Year. She has kept the dominance she had In her rookie year and has became one of the faces of the league.

#5- Lan Nguyen LHP, Age 17
Career Stats (One Season)- 39-2, 0.89 ERA, 345 K's- Iqaluit Iceheads (NPSL)
Born to Vietnamese immigrants In Iqaluit many thought nothing of her given the situation she was In. She was starving because her parents couldn't afford to buy the family food, she was living on the street's with her parents exposed to the harsh Jarwelian winters, and she had no route to get out of It. But when her family was relieved of the kid so they could get there life back together Lan started going to school. She instantly made friends who made her join the softball team with them. She knew nothing about the sport, but only one friend was willing to teach her. She was a former star on the high school team who had broke her arm and could throw again. At fourteen Lan joined the high school team and instantly got attention from people all over the city. She dominated High School for two years before she was asked to declare for the NPSL. She said she could not due to school but the manager said she would draft Lan and make sure she could finish her last two years of school. So she went into the draft and the Iceheads drafted the sixteen year old star. She burst onto the scene with 39 wins and an ERA below one. She Is expected to stay one more year In the NPSL before joining a bigger league.

The teammate of Lan Nguyen, Lan and Milena formed a dominate 1-2 punch In the Iqaluit rotation together winning over half of the teams games. Milena was a high school stud when she went into the draft at the age of 17. After many looked down on her and thought she couldn't last In the league the Iqaluit manager had a different opinion and drafted Milena with the 28th pick of the first round. She became a dominate player and became good friends with Lan while they were dominating batters all over the league.

Angela Romanov, RHP, Age 26
Career Stats (Four Seasons)- 89-21, 2.98 ERA, 765 K's- Winnipeg Towers (WPSL)
Angela and her twin sister Karina have dominated the WPSL for four years now after being a dominate 1-2 punch at University at British Columbia. Jasmina loved softball from the time she picked up a ball and threw It at a wall when she was two years old. She played for youth teams from the time she was five until she joined her high school team when she was fourteen. When she stared high school she became on of the biggest prospects that colleges had their eye on. She went to Toronto University where she dominated for four years until she went to the JBL where she was drafted In the ninth round. She went to Toronto and has dominated ever since with twenty wins a year except for her rookie year.

Margarit Gevorgian, LHP, Age 35
Career Stats (Seventeen Seasons)- 358-109, 2.89 ERA, 3672 K's- Halifax Fishers (JSL)
Margarit Is the oldest pitcher on the team this year at thirty five as well as the most experienced pitcher with seventeen years of experience. After having a late start to her career when she started playing at the age of thirteen for her High School. After graduating she skipped High School and was selected In the 32nd round. She started off her legendary career with a 28-1 season. After dropping In production last year with a 15-9 record she was still selected due to her experience.

Lei Zhang, RHP, Age 29
Career Stats (Ten Seasons)- 199-49, 3.11 ERA, 1996 K's- Windsor Rivers (JSL)
Lei was a Chinese born immigrant who became a citizen shortly after moving to Jarwel started her softball dream In middle school when she found out her school had a all-female team. She instantly joined the team and found out how to play. She immediately became a star and was highly scouted for College. She went to the University of Michigan but after a year she came back to New Jarwel and went into the JSL draft where she was selected In the third round by Windsor. After a stellar rookie year and many stellar years after she Is only one win away from two hundred wins and four K's away from two thousand K's.

Marika Jokela, LHP, Age 27
Career Stats (Nine Seasons)- 358 SV's, 1.87 ERA, 456 K's- Windsor Rivers (JSL)
As the closer this year for the team Marika has a big responsibility for the team. She Is hoping to not blow any saves In the tournament. After playing High School many thought she wouldn't be drafted due to the fact she was injured for most of her senior year of high school. After being drafted In the late rounds by Windsor she became an instant success In the bullpen closing most of the teams games. One of those players she closed out for was fellow national team teammate Lei Zhang.

After not getting into softball until she was 13 Margareta gained much skill In a short period of time. After being one of the best high school players In the nation she went to Montreal University where she set school records for stolen bases stealing 100 every year finishing with 324 career college stolen bases. She was drafted with the 12th pick In the draft when she was 21 .So far In her three years so far has been a speed demon stealing 103 bases last year with 41 In her rookie year and 52 the year after. A favorite at the top of the lineup she has found little team success In Ottawa where the pitching Is well below average but Margareta and Katinka Schlenders hitting keep the team In contention.

LF- Katinka Schlender, RHB, Age 34
Career Stats (Thirteen Seasons)-.284 BA, 176 HR's, 953 RBI's, 304 SB's- Ottawa Firebirds (JSL)
Katinka started playing softball when she was only four and never looked back dominating everywhere she went. When she started High School many thought she would play and focus on her academics but she kept her focus on softball hoping to get a scholarship to focus on both softball and her academics. She worked hard In softball to become as good as she could and she succeeded by getting a scholarship to Nova Scotia University. She was a speed demon for her first three years of college but after suffering a leg injury her speed went way down though still fast not as fast as she used to be. She went into the draft and was selected third overall by Ottawa who had been struggling since the retiring of star pitcher Sam Howards. Kitinka came to the team and instantly made an impact by leading the Firebirds to the playoffs, which she has done every year since she joined the team.

2B- Felicie Switzer, RHB, Age 27
Career Stats (Five Seasons)-.311 BA, 146 HR's, 478 RBI's, 47 SB's- Calgary Aces (JSL)
Felicie was born to a family who never let her go outside the house because they thought It would ruin her. She got into softball by watching It as a kid. Everyday she would go into the back yard and just hit a ball for hours with whatever she could find. Luckily when she got to High School her parents finally let her join a softball team and she instantly became a star leading the small school to a national title. After she graduated she got scholarship offers from almost every big school In the nation, but she decided to go to a smaller school closer to home, Robertson College. After graduating she entered the JSL draft where she was drafted second overall by the Calgary Aces. She found a perfect home hitting over .300 all five years and over 25 HR's all five years.

DH- Katrín Steinsson, Switch, Age 39
Career Stats (Twenty One Seasons)-.324 BA, 589 HR's, 1,967 RBI's, 563 SB's- Montreal Bulldogs (JBL), Calgary Aces (JSL)
Katrin, one of the biggest power hitters In all of Jarwelian history almost went for a track career instead of a baseball career. When she was seven she started doing softball and was dominate but when she started middle school she started to become tore over which sport to choose, track and field or softball. Once she graduated she got scholarships for both track and softball. She heard though she could declare for the JSL draft and It was then that she decided to focus squarely on softball. After being picked with the first pick by the struggling Aces she absolutely crushed the ball hitting 45 HR's and knocking In 123 RBI's. She was told that a few teams were interested In her over In the JBL. She instantly declared for the draft and was taken In the third round. After an injury shortened season she came back the next year and hit 57 HR's, stole 52 bases, and knocked In 118 RBI's. She would go and dominate like this with power, speed, and clutch for the next eighteen years.

1B- Lena Rosa, RHB, Age 26
Career Stats (Four Seasons)-.305 BA, 123 HR's, 412 RBI's, 7 SB's- Vancouver Sailors (WPSL)
Lena Rosa came into the world during a softball game. She would spend 25 of her next 26 birthdays at a ball game, with her playing In 15 of her birthdays. Daughter of insane sports fans she was raised on sports and It was no surprise when she took up the sport that most of the women In the family had taken, softball. Her mother Amy Rosa was a legend at the local high school where Lena would also become a legend. Amy Rosa was also know for being on one of the original JSL teams. Lena Rosa dominated her high school career then went on to become a school legend at the University of Winnipeg, leading them to three national titles. She entered the WPSL instead of the bigger JSL hoping to stay near home and be drafted by the Sailors. Her wishes came true and she was the third pick In the draft when she was drafted by the Vancouver Sailors. After dominating every year with at least 30 HR's and 100 RBI's every year along with hitting .300 plus.

3B- Kaylie Westley, LHB, Age 36
Career Stats (Seventeen Seasons)-.299 BA, 492 HR's, 1589 RBI's, 18 SB's- Toronto Leafers (JBL)
Kaylie Westly was raised In Toronto and had the big city feel especially her beloved Leafers. Kaylie Westley was the daughter of former starting catcher of the Leafers, Jim Westley who had some of the best power until he broke his legs sliding and he could never play again. Kaylie went into high school a year late after being stuck In the hospital for a year and having to re-take eighth grade. After a late start she dominated the competition hitting homer after homer. She got her dad's power and clutch but not his speed. Though she didn't get the speed the power was enough to get Kaylie into the draft boards of her beloved Leafers. She declared for the draft and In the final round of the draft the Leafers selected her with the pick. After warming the bench In her rookie year, she exploded when she was finally put In the starting lineup hitting 48 HR's In her first full season. Since she has constantly hit with power and Is looking for 500 HR's next season.

C- Suzette Bonnaire, RHB, Age 20- Quebec City Freedom (JBL)
Career Stats (Three Years)-.354 BA, 123 HR's, 347 RBI's, 189 SB's
Suzette, was one of the biggest underdogs coming in to her rookie year. After being introduced to softball by a family friend when she was nine she instantly enjoyed It, joining her first softball team the day after. She came into her high school one of the weakest hitters on the team. By the time she graduated High School she was hitting long ball after long ball. She came straight out of High School to the JBL draft which shocked many due to the fact she could have been a star at any college she could have wanted to go to. But she suppressed many again by being drafted In the first round by the struggling Quebec City Freedom with the 11th pick. She came into the season as the short 5"4 hitter that many thought to be a small speedster. When she came she showed she had power hitting 42 HR's and knocking In 124 RBI's to go with 79 SB's. She continued with her power and speed combination which surprised many. Many say her career Is just one big miracle.

RF- Célestine Simon, LHB, Age 31
Career Stats (Twelve Years)-.287 BA, 116 HR's, 1,097 RBI's, 989 SB's- Calgary Aces (JSL)
Celestine was the daughter of two slow parents who were construction workers. Nowhere did It show a chance of being one of the fastest players of all time. Celestine was born In a small mobile home somewhere In British Columbia. Her family stayed on the road until they settled down when Celestine was thirteen. She instantly joined a sport just to make friends. That sport happened to be softball. She burst onto the softball scene shocking everyone with her speed. When she hit High School she even showed she could flash the leather often with many flashy diving plays to her name. She get multiple scholarships but skipped over them all and was selected by the Aces who at the time were struggiling and would take anyone who they thought could help them be successful. They were right. Celestine In twelve years has stolen almost one thousand basses with the hope that next year she can get to the one thousand mark.

CF- Tiphaine Paul, RHB, Age 23
Career Stats (One Year)-.389 BA, 45 HR's, 134 RBI's, 67 SB's- Calgary Aces (JSL)
One another dominating player from the Aces Tiphaine came from a big background being the daughter of the owners of the team. That was not the reason though she was drafted. She had talent that she showed throughout her rookie year where she easily one the Rookie Of The Year. She started playing softball In high school after she made a bet saying If she could make It pro In any sport her friend would pay her 500 dollars. She took the deal even though she knew It was stupid, though It was a great idea that she took It. She dominated the high school teams with a province title. She got many scholarships, In the end she decided to go to Calgary University and absolutely was the best player the school ever saw. She went Into the draft the next year and after Calgary traded up to get the number one pick they used the pick to select Tiphaine. Tiphaine then went on to have a legendary rookie year hitting .389, with 45 HRs, 134 RBI's, 67 SB's, along with .989 Fielding Percentage.

Career Stats (Three Seasons)- .287 BA, 58 HR's, 253 RBI's, 148 SB's- Quebec City Freedom (JBL)
Aimee part of the proud French community Is one of the best French-Jarwelian players today with excellent playing so far for her hometown team. Aimee was born to parents who were spending a lot of time on the road which left Aimee most of the time with her Aunt who was a member of the JSL. She would take Aimee to many games and she got Aimee hooked on the game. Aimee though struggled In high school and only got one scholarship to a small community college In Quebec City. When Aimee got there though she dominated setting school records and putting the school on the map. She went into the JBL draft after her college days and was selected In the lucky thirteenth round. She went off to her hometown Freedom and had an amazing rookie campaign hitting .304 with 21 HR's, 85 RBI's, and 67 SB's. In the two years that passes she stayed just as good with just the smallest drop In production.

IF- Rachel Foss, LHB, Age 28
Career Stats (Eleven Seasons)-.278 BA, 285 HR's, 973 RBI's, 387 SB's- Halifax Fishers (JSL)
Rachel Foss Is one of the poorer hitters on the team If you look at batting average but everything else Foss Is superb. Rachel Foss Is an alumni of Goils High School which has produced a many star players In Jarwelian Baseball/Softball History. Rachel Is one of the few alumni of Goils High School to not go to college as she skipped right to the pro's. She entered the JSL draft and was selected In the 16th round by the Halifax Fishers. She had an amazing season when she hit a career high .301, hit 28 HR's, knocked In 93 RBI's, stole 45 bases, and had an amazing fielding percentage of .992. She has kept her production around those totals for her career.

IF- Isabel Colbert, RHB, Age 29
Career Stats (Eleven Seasons)-.297 BA, 38 HR's, 786 RBI's, 412 SB's- Edmonton Flyers (JSL)
Isabel Colbert Is the shortest player on the whole team at 5"2 she has many people surprised that she play's softball. At 5"2 you'd think that more ball's would be hit over her head than a usual normal sized fielder. You'd be wrong, Isabel can jump insanely high and will rob a line drive you'd think would go over her head because of her size. She started her career after a stellar career at Goils High School when her and Rachel Foss were two of the best players In the nation. Though because of her size Isabel dropped to the 17th round. She went to Edmonton and since has dominated. One of the best fielders In the JSL she has led the league In fielding percentage many times and also led the league In batting average twice hitting .312, and .321 In her first fifth and sixth seasons.

IF- Natalee Fairbairn, LHB, Age 27
Career Stats (Nine Seasons)- .301 BA, 187 HR's, 698 RBI's, 683 SB's- Windsor Rivers (JSL)
Natalee Fairbairn Is one of the fastest players In all of softball or baseball with 683 SB's In only Nine seasons. A former high school record holder for the Ten Meter Run, was an excellent track runner as well as softball player. Natalee has shown time and time again since her High school days she has speed. After she gave up on track to follow softball people saw the true speed that was running around the bases. After skipping college due to not getting any scholarships, she was selected In the last round of JSL draft by the Windsor Rivers. She speed through her rookie season with 96 SB's. The Next year she stole 101. She as well has shown the speed rounding the bases on hits. She has had a many Inside-The-Home Runs.

OF- Regena Abramson, RHB, Age 23
Career Stats (Five Seasons)-.286, 243 HR's, 476 RBI's, 128 SB's- Edmonton Flyers (JSL)
Regena Is the tallest player on the national team at 6"7. She shows power, speed, and fielding all In the tall frame. She was not always a hard hitter but as she dominated high school she got taller and stronger and started crushing the ball. The 6"7 Regena was normal size until a huge growth spurt when she turned 16. She had started playing softball two years earlier with more speed but after that she gained power as well. After skipping past college to get money quicker she was taken with the 29th pick In the draft. After showing the size din't hinder In Spring Training she dominated with .312 BA, 56 HR's, 118 RBI's, and 34 SB's.

OF- Arienne Fairchild, LHB, Age 28
Career Stats (Ten Seasons)-.297, 413 HR's, 873 RBI's, 485 SB's- Halifax Flyers (JSL)
Arienne has shown that like many others have shown you don't only need one strong spot. Like others on the team Arienne has both power and speed. Arienne dominated High School and like so many others skipped college to get the money quicker. After being picked with the 67th pck In the draft Arienne hit .348 with 63 HR's, 132 RBI's, and 56 SB's, which led her to an easy triple crown, Rookie of The Year, and MVP.

In the interest of giving their National Baseball Team a bit more practice, West Saintland has chosen to enter them in the World Softball Classic despite their lack of familiarity with softball. The below is from my WBC 40 roster:

Since World Baseball Classic 38, 28 years have passed in West Saintland due to a mysterious acceleration of time. During that time, West Saintland became a place totally unrecognizable to those who remember the old Saintland or even the pre-time warp West Saintland. At the 3rd West Sanctii election, Feministvs Sanctvsterra won an overwhelming majority. As King Petrus XX became increasingly frustrated with his failure to produce a male heir, Queen Veronica assumed more and more power, aligning herself closely with Parliament. Over the years, the theology of the Church of Saintland drifted until it was unrecognizable, with a Goddess replacing the old male God under Matriarch Innocentia I, who taught that Maria, Daughter of God, was the true Savior. In the following years, isolated from the rest of the multiverse, West Sanctii society became more and more matriarchal until it was almost the mirror image of what it had been under King Paulus XV. East Saintland, run by King Andreas, had been founded upon the old ways and it stayed true to them. Surprisingly, an uneasy but lasting peace broke out between the two Kingdoms, as neither believed they were capable of defeating the other in a war and, besides, it was very convenient to be able to exchange each other's problem citizens to maintain the peace in their respective Kingdoms. Today, the East is a ruthless dictatorship where robotic AIs called cBots (short for "control bots") enforce the teachings of the Fundamentalist True Church while the West is a "feminist democracy" where the government maintains its hold on power through laws prohibiting unmarried men from voting and the complete lack of a secret ballot.

Among the dozen princesses, there are 3 that play baseball for West Saintland. They include Princess Gloria, considered by many to be the finest Sanctii hurler since King Paulus XIV, Princess Olivia, a shortstop who has already broken her own record for most stolen bases in a season multiple times and Princess Sophia, who has won the triple crown of baseball twice in her first three seasons in the Sanctii league. Princess Sophia has also managed to steal about as many bases as she's hit home runs over those 3 seasons in the West Sanctii domestic league. The 3 princesses, all of whom play for St. Petrus in the West Saintland league, have led their team to 3 consecutive Saintland Series victories against the Eastern champions. Princess Gloria combines a fastball that has been clocked as high as 102 miles per hour with a knuckleball and a slider that is considered virtually unhittable. Her one weakness is her tendency to try and force the knuckleball, even on days when it simply isn't effective.

With alot of nations taking part in the Olympics in Novonaya, Kelssek and Provinsk, Vekaiyu, West Phoenicia being one of those teams who have sent their baseball team and their softball team to compete.
The West Phoenician Softball Federation has stepped with a great idea by sending a mix softball team to take part in the World Softball Classic.

This is the first time West Phoenicia has fielded such a team made up of players from the National Softball league who are on break at the moment. All are of high calibre and are eager to get the worlds attention that West Phoenicia has come to claim the softball crown. Standing in there way will be nations like The Free Republics and Union of Socialist Alpine Republics, two heavy hitters in the World Baseball Classic. But softball and baseball are different. These nations basball pitchers may experience difficulty in changing their pitching performances which may give the Mountain Lions an added advantage.

The Mountain Lions roared through their first matches against The Free Republics. With 4 games played against each other, both sides broke even with 2 wins apiece. Total runs combined for both teams was 11 for The Free Republics to West Phoenicia's 10. Showing both teams are very easily matched.

They will next take on The Orion Islands who have some powerful batters on their team and who also beat out New Jarwel 3 games to 1. But special applause needs to be given to New Jarwel who scored an astonished 16 runs in their 4th match up!

Tottie Silversmith will be the main pitcher in the games against The Orion Islands after lead pitcher Kora Goldsmith dislocated her shoulder which may see her out for the remainder of the series.

"Veni, vidi, vici" Was the battle cry of the West Phoenician Mountain Lions as they came up against The Orion Islands and smashed them 4-0.

Tottie Silversmith was pivotal in winning the matches, her pitches were on form and fast, barely giving Orion Islands batters a chance to blink let alone hit the ball. Tottie a secret weapon of the Mountain Lions was suppose to be saved for later matches, but due to a team mates injury she was paraded out to do her best.

On the batter side Leesa Cremeworth and Nelson Hong were two outstanding players. Helping the Mountain Lions smash there rivals with power hits.

The next match up with pit Mountain Lion against Blue Lion as West Phoenicia will next take on New Jarwel. West Phoenicia has now fear and believes after the next four games New Jarwel will change their team name to the Blue Pussycats.

After a tough first day of the Third Softball Classic where we say the New Jarwelian lose three of four games to The Orion Islands. In the first game we saw a big loss for the Blue Lions where the Orion Islands got to stellar pitcher, Aliyya Karim, with the Orion Islands winning 9-2. Though The Blue Lions did get quite a few hits they could not capitalize with the only runs coming from two home runs. One from Katrín Steinsson In the second and the other In the 4th from Aimée Paquet who replaced Kaylie Westley at 3rd base after Kaylie got hit by a pitch In the 2nd inning.

In the second game of the first day It was a much closer game which saw The Orion Islands score three In the sixth to take a 4-3 lead then striking out the side In the seventh to win the game. After allowing only three hits through the first five innings, fans thought that Hachirou Hamasaki had an easy victory, after In the third when Tiphaine Paul hit a three-run homer to give the Blue Lions a 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the sixth though with runners on second and third a throwing mishap by Felicie Switzer scored a runner and put runners on third and first with two outs. Than a double knocked the runners home from third and first. Hachirou was taken out of the game and replaced with Lei Zhang who got the last out of the inning. In a last hope effort the Blue Lions put runners on second and third with one out, but a strike out and a ground out ended the game for New Jarwel with a 4-3 loss.

In the third game It was another close game between the nations but once again a loss for the Blue Lions. After jumping to a quick 3-1 lead In the second with an RBI from Aimée Paquet, Suzette Bonnaire, and Margareta Andries. Lilian Traverse had a solid performance until the fifth where she allowed 3 runs making It a 5-3 lead for The Orion Islands. After being taken out of the game, Miléna Szûcs was put In and got the final two outs of the inning. After not scoring In the bottom of the fifth, and a scorless sixth from both sides, In the seventh Milena allowed two home runs In the first two pitches she threw In the inning. She was taken out of the game and replaced with Margarit Gevorgian who struck out the next three batters. After a quick start with a home run from Katinka Schlender, which cut the lead to 7-4, the next three batters though all flew out to deep right field ending the game In a 7-4 loss to The Orion Islands.

In the fourth and final game of the first day the Blue Lions showed there dominate selves with a huge victory over The Orion Islands. After a dominate first inning which saw the Blue Lions score seven runs with A grand slam from Lena Rosa, a two-run home run from Suzette Bonnaire, and a solo home run from Célestine Simon. After allowing two runs In the first off of two solo home runs Olivia Ramos struck out the side In the second while getting two more run's. After the Blue Lions scored another two runs In the third Olivia allowed two more home runs and was taken out of the game. Angela Romanov came out of the bullpen and pitched two solid innings allowing one run In the fifth, while the Blue Lions brought another run home In the fourth which brought the lead at that point to 12-5. In the top of sixth and seventh inning's the Blue Lions tacked on another four runs, while Angela Romanov's twin sister Karina Romanov came In and shut out the last two innings making a final score of 16-5.

The West Phoenician Mountain Lions have secured victory in their matches against the nation of Platerdam. Winning 3 of the 4 matches in what only can be described as an average performance by both teams. The only resemblance of wanting to win occured in the 4th game where the Mountain Lions won a 8-1 victory.

West Phoenicia applauded the results which saw the Mountain Lions finish at the top of their division, securing them a spot in the semi finals.
To reach the finals they will need to play against West Saintland, a team West Phoenicia has met before in the World Baseball Classic. And a team they have won against.

The tight softball unit team will need to dig their heels in as they go up against a tough rival if they plan to make it the finals. Something that is quite possible with Tottie Silversmith as lead pitcher.

Over in the other game New Jarwel will face The Union of Socialist Alpine Republics. A tough team in the baseball but do they have what it takes to reach the finals in softball? There stats really do speak for themselves. They are tough and it will definitely be a challenge to face them in the finals.

West Phoenicia is hoping for New Jarwel victory a team they see as one they can beat in the finals. With most of the worlds eyes on the Olympics. All softball teams need to pull out the big guns and give the crowds a show that will be talked about.

The West Phoenician Mountain Lions have scored a magnificent victory in the semi finals. After the first two matches it was 1-1.

Head Coach Shawn McIntyre feared it would continue along the same trend for the next two matches, seeing as both teams were evenly matched.
However the headstrong Mountain Lions were determined to pull out every play to stop that from happening. Using their pitching team as their ultimate weapon, the West Phoenicians kept West Saintland from scoring at all in match day 3, whilst they snuck in one run in the first inning and the game ended there for both teams as neither let the other gain the upper hand.

Game 4th, West Phoenicia yet again relied on their strong pitching team to keep the runs low for their competition. The game ended 3-1 in the Mountain Lions favour, enabling them to progress to the finals.
They will have a time of rest which is good news for Tottie Silversmith who is their best pitcher and has overall being the biggest reason West Phoenicia had advanced as far as it has.

They will need to wait a little longer as Jarwel Blue Lions and The Union of Socialist Alpine Republics are neck and neck and will play the 5th game to see who will take on The Mountain Lions.

West Phoenician Softball fans are poised for finals.

Nothing gets a West Phoenician heart racing more is a final, a final they are involved in. Or a scorpion or taipan in ones bed placed in their bed by a disgruntled family member.

Eager softball fans will be tuning in to watch the West Phoenician Mountain Lions take on Jarwel Blue Lions., after Jarwel took on Union of Socialist Alpine Republics and lived to tell the tale.

Both teams are of equal worth but West Phoenicia is very confident they will leave their competition in the dust. We simply want the title more. And pitchers like Tottie Silversmith has one of the strongest arms in the league to strike out any Blue Lion batter who think they can change the outcome by smacking her pitchers into home runs.

The Mountain Lions are also wanting to show the nation that there faith in baseball and the funds allocated to them is grossly over represented. Yes the Confederates have improved but 2 fourth places is not an improvement.

The Mountain Lions will not settle for anything less than first place. And with such tough pitchers and the team work of our fielders the West Phoenicia promises to deliver a spectacular show for the crowds as they cinch first place.

In the lead up to the finals Mountain Lions manager Vanessa Tamworth hosted a huge pep rally for the team in the city-state of Jackson, at the heart of the capital Melbourne-Haven.
Surrounded by dancers and musicians a large paper mache replica of the Jarwel Blue Lions mascot was brought out, with fans cheering "feel the burn" as the replica was set alight.

The West Phoenician Mountain Lions are onto a fantastic start in the World Softball Classic finals. After all their hard work from the original rounds, semi-finals they have worked there way to the finals.

It was a very close game 1 for the finals with both teams of equal matching. Both determined to grt a win under their belts. But after scoring 4 runs to Jarwel 3, the West Phoenician pitching line up kept up a strong performance striking out the Jarwel players before any could attempt a run.

Game 2 had the Mountain Lions on top form. Scoring 2-0. Pitching was on top firm and the fielding was placed in positions catching any hits the Jarwel Blue Lions were able to smack away from the West Phoenician pitchers.

With games 3 and 4 just a day away West Phoenicia plans to take our their competition swiftly and ruthlessly as possible. With their eyes firmly on the title West Phoenicia plans to walk away with the World Softball Classic title.
