The Gandoorese Space Administration is the space program of the Democratic Republic of Gandoor. It was established in 1986 although our first unmanned launch wouldn't occur until 1989. The first Gandoorese astronauts were Isei Tanaka, Eichi Sugihara, Robert Hard, and Victor Chaly, who were sent into space in 1995 and spent two months orbiting Earth.

In the modern day, the GSA has six research satellites and one space station in orbit around the Earth. The space station, the Gandoorese Scientific Station, was launched in 2003 and is staffed by five astronauts at a time.

We have not landed on any other celestial bodies yet.

Other: The GCTA has an orbital weapons platform, the GAAMI, used primarly as a defense against incoming asteroids, and the Points, a network of satellites used to detect fluctuations in spacetime for use in spacetime travel. There is also the secret Project Event Horizon, a 1/2 mile spacecraft designed for orbital planetary bombardment, which is under construction on the "dark" side of the Moon.

The Imperium as an interstellar empire, which kind of makes space programs obsolete - in our day, interstellar travel is no more unusual than sea travel and shipping was back in the 21st century.

The main purpose of our space program is to maintain the FatSat system of communications and spy satellites. It is centered at Cape Carnival on the east coast and administered by the Manned Spaceflight Center, which is under the auspices of Fatatatutti University (FU).

Our main launch vehicle is the Marianne rocket, which can handle a variety of payload sizes with the addition of solid- and/or liquid-fueled boosters.

We currently have two partially-recyclable orbiters in operation, Va'a One and Va'a Two. They are typically crewed by three but they can carry five or more. Mission profiles include high-orbit for maintenance of synchronous (communications) satellites and low-orbit for maintenance of spy satellites. "Maintenance" can include replacement of instrument packages, minor repairs and destruction of obsolete satellites. We currently have contracts with several foreign nations for the latter.

We see no particular reason to go to the moon but there are tentative plans for a permanent space station.

In the days before the Keeper Crisis the first Global State had an extensive space program. There were thousands of satellites and two permanent way stations in orbit around Lepweca, low-orbit transport was quite common and we had permanent colonies on several other bodies in our solar system. Today only the satellites remain; what's left of the colonies have long since thrown their lot in with the Keepers and now operate independently of the modern Global State. The way stations were shut down as they no longer had anywhere to lead the way to. A general climate of division and paranoia makes low-orbit transport impractical, as it could be easily mistaken for a missile launch and lead to global annihilation. After around 95% of the global population (roughly 8.8 billion people) elected to join the Keeper hive the (new) Global State changed its priorities - we no longer feel the need to colonise space as we no longer have the resource pressures that we once had.

On May 17, 1962, the Xinshi-1 satellite, which was created as part of the Xinshi (Putonghua: 信使) satellite program, was successfully launched.

On December 22, 1969, as part of the Xiwang-1 spaceflight mission, the National Aerospace Research Directorate sent a human to space, as part of the Xiwang (Putonghua: 希望) human spaceflight program. The People's Republic of Zhouran had achieved human spaceflight capability.

Since the 1960s, the People's Republic of Zhouran is Asia's first nation, as well as the third nation in the world after the former USSR and the US, to achieve full orbital launch capability. As a result, the nation is Asia's leading space power, as well as one of the leading nations in rocket-building and satellite-building. Not only that, Zhouran is also known for providing launch services for other nations by launching foreign satellites into space. Currently the People's Republic of Zhouran has a large amount of satellites in orbit, with an estimate of around 2,000 satellites.

The Jagiellonian space program barely exists and is largely devoted to keeping tabs on everyone else's space programs. This reflects generally underdeveloped missile technology in Miedzymorze, something that also influences the military's preference for mass rocket barrages over ballistic missile strikes. A handful of nuclear weapons do exist, in the form of theatre ballistic missiles, but these are very aged and poorly maintained. A retrofitting and modernizing program for the Jagiellonian nuclear arsenal - which likely also serve to modernize the satellite launchers of the space program - has been repeatedly proposed and rejected. This program, and many other proposed modernization programs, are a key point of contention between the anti-modernization Emperor - Vladislaus - and his enthusiastically pro-modernization son and heir, Janos.
