2017 - A Realistic World RP
Originally created by Hjallaland rebooted by Pimps Inc

2017, a year of great challenges for the world. In the Middle-East conflicts rage on and Daesh remains a thorn in the eye for many out there. To the north Ukraine remains unstable as violence is once again increasing in the east. Europe itself still struggles with its economic crisis and is also haunted by a flood of refugees and growing anti-EU movements. To the far east China has started to expand its influence through the South-China Sea, sending military equipment to the disputed area. Its a dangerous time, a time in which a cold war could return in months or a time in which the world reviews its wrongdoings and tries to fix the mistakes it made. Now however you may influence what path the world is going to take.

Welcom to 2017 - A Realistic World RP!
As the name suggests, this will be a realistic world RP, meaning that everything at the start is as accurate as we can make it to our own world. From there countries can go in many ways aslong as it is done so within the realistic limits. Our goals? To improve our countries in whatever way we can. We will all play a government of a nation or, if one likes to, a rebel/terrorist organization. Keep in mind though that you will be playing a government, not the general population itself.
You can implement new laws if they suit your governments interests, establishing deals with other governments, participate in one of the many conflicts or you can try to end them through diplomatic means. Now i understand it can be hard find out whether something would be realistic or not but no worries, i won't be too strict on it and you'll be fine aslong as you don't cross major lines.
Please read the rules and suggestions below and sign up!

Post Quality:
I expect a good post quality from everyone, that means no one/two/three liners nor a simple paragraph. At least two decent paragraphs are required for every post. Adding simple details to your posts is an easy way to make sure that you meet the standard and if you're not sure on what to post, just take another look at the issues going on in your nations or the world and add something about it in your post, it can be a plan to resolve an economic crisis or it even could be a simple reply to a certain event that happend somewhere on the other side of the world.

Timescale:
Almost everything will happen faster in the RP than in real life, if only to avoid the troubled reality of having to wait years for things to improve. While we won't make drastic changes in a month, we on't have to wait years either. This is a matter you have to decide on your own a bit to figure out what your nations capabilities are in terms of those matters. I'll keep an eye on it and if i feel it goes too fast or too slow i'll let it know.
In the RP itself we will pass time by simply posting dates at our posts while trying to keep it at around three months per IC page. Make sure you read other people's posts as we will slow down during busy times while we will speed up the time at times nothing really interesting happens.

Historical Accuracy:
I don't think much has to be said here. Everything up till our starting date will remain the same as IRL, or at least as close as we can get it as there remains a gap of a few days.

Waging War & WoMD:
At some point there will likely erupt a war somewhere and since this RP is a realistic one there will be strict rules attached to waging wars. To start, if you want to start a war you are required to have my permission to do so, this only to avoid reckless and unrealistic wars everywhere.
Now lets say you're sure about starting a war, whether with another nation, a civil war or even a coup, you'll either TG me or ask me about it in the OOC. Provide as many details as possible as the more details i have the more tempted i am to agree to it. Think of the way on how you're going to build up to the war, where you'll try to find support, what you explain to the UN, what you're going to do to try to avoid the war at first, how to establish the supplylines, what you do concerning the terrain, the mobilization of troops, the finance ect. So bascily provide me with as many information as possible. If you're not sure about some of the matters don't hesitate to ask, i'm always willing to help you out, even if it concerns a war against my own nation.
Even though starting a war is possible i will remain very strict on the matter and in most cases it'd be better if you choose a nation that is already involved in a conflict instead of trying to start a war with one that is not.
WoMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) are a whole other matter to deal with and just like wars the use of them have to be pre-approved by me. One may threaten with them like with nuclear missiles but one may not use them unless it has my approval. Most WoMD are likely to be allowed in usage, think about Mustard Gas and Nerve Agents for example though keep in mind that it highly depends on the nation, for example Libya would have a greater chance of being allowed to use them duo to the chaos than the US would. The use of Nuclear weapons on the other hand won't be talke as lightly and probably won't be approved by me.

For war, you must follow these four steps: Seek Approval for War (for example, if you're the united states), Prepare & Mobilize Your Forces, Launch Your Forces, Attack
+ You must give the other nation the chance to respond when you launch, or even attack with your forces. For example, a nation would detect a large air, naval, or ground force, and would, promptly, intercept. They may not know exact numbers, and may end up with more or less to defend (and it's appreciated if you use only forces that would, reasonably, be able to heed the call to defend, meaning that if you don't have a military base for miles, it'll take a while, and you still have to mobilize to defend), but the intercepting force will try to defend the nation you wish to attack. That means, you might have to wait, and will have to wage war properly, or use superior stealth technology.
+ In accordance to the first post in the IC, each post must have at least 500 words. Posts will be randomly counted to make sure that you meet this requirement.
+ Use spell check, proper grammar and punctuation, and all of that other stuff that helps you to write well.

Technology:
It is important to understand your nation's technology and the limits that go wtih it. Major powers will start with the most advanced technology and they will most likely hold that position throughout the RP. It is allowed to improve your technology but know that you can't jump ahead on these matters. Now we don't know exactly what inventions will come in the (near) future and so we'll keep ourselves with existing technologies which we can improve aswell as technologies that hold a decent amount of reliability of them coming to us in the futre. If you're not sure whether something is allowed, just ask and i'll let you know if its okay to use it or not.

Events:
From time to time Events or random Events will pop up in a seperate post. It could be anything from a terrorist attack to a species going extinct to an economic or social crisis. Its up to each nation whether to respond on it and how to respond on it and the only ones who are not allowed to ignore it are those nations affected by it. If you have any idea yourself for a random event, whether it concerns your own nation or another don't hesitate to send me a TG and i will see what i can do with it.

NPC Actions:
NPC's will be somewhat semi-active in the RP as we shouldn't ignore all those nations that aren't being played by people. While we won't be hearing from them alot they will undergo changes, end up in conflicts and choose sides in conflicts from time to time. Its important to interact with NPC's yourself aswell as most likely one or more of your allies will end up being an NPC. Now if you want to interact with them you only have to send me a TG with the stuff you want to do with the said NPC nation. I will either reply that the nation agrees to it or that it doesn't agree to it depending on its own interests.
Another apsect of the NPC action revolves around the fact that you play a government and not its entire population. This means that your citzens can change from opinions themselves and that they could even show their discontent with one of your recently accepted policies. More important however, if you're a democratic state, they will elect the ones you're about to RP once elections arrive. Now as for the elections i will keep your wishes in mind but there might be occasions in which i am forced to have the citzens elect a government which you do not desire. It is important to keep this in mind when you're about to play a nation, would you mind having to play a radical right-wing government or a socialist government?
I will always use the major parties in a democracy to start with, then, along with your wishes in mind and the smaller parties i'll look at what the people would want and make an election result on it. Sometimes it might be quick and easy, other times i'll have to get myself up to date with the state of affairs regarding this stuff in your nation.

General Rules:
At least there are ofcourse the general rules which you must obay.
1) Don't Flame or Troll, just don't.
2) Obay the forum rules at all times.
3) Know how to lose. Don't be a dick if something doesn't play out your way.
4) Metagaming, don't do it. It is not allowed to use any knowledge you obtained outside of the IC in the IC itself.
5) Have Fun!

Chapter 1: Brazil must go on
Brasília, Brazil

1st January 2017

Brazil, once a promising state in World affairs had since been revealing the very worst of its government underbelly. The Impeachment of the President Dilma Rousseff showed the whole world the sad state of affairs that Brazil was in. The Economic recession of 2014 had cause much anger at the Government as the ex-Vice President now President Temer was not popular with the people of Brazil not even his old Party of the Republic was supporting him. 2016 was a year that was supposed to change Brazil, making it into a true nation of modern world but had instead been disastrous for the Brazilian people the most who were now out in force striking against the government at almost every turn. They were tired of the Government not giving the people what they had earned, a better life, public services and a decent livelihood for themselves.

Yet this still was to happen. Government reforms to slash the public debt with cutting pensions and overhauling the labor laws in Brazil has resulted in even more anger towards the Government. President Temer now held a fragile grip to power one wrong move could result in his own impeachment and the removal of power of him or even worse the collapse of the coalition that he and Dilma had put together even though the coalition had already had different parties leave and other join, the situation for Brazil looked desperate. 2016 was the year Brazil had hoped but their dream of a new Brazilian nation was quickly put down and now the Olympics seemed to have been a mistake for the Government. Corruption throughout the whole Brazilian political system showed even more the flaws of Brazil.

But things were looking to change, a new young politician by the name of Ernesto Ayon had become leader of the Brazilian labor party was ready to relaunch the party as a true alternative to the current system of politics. But another election is not scheduled until next year in which case Ernesto must keep hold of the momentum he is getting or else he will fade away into the political shadow of the political capital that is Brasília.

"There must be something we can do" Temer shouted as he slammed his fist down onto his presidential desk. "People are now calling for my impeachment and we must not let the government we have fall or else we will see an end to this government we have." Temer almost screaming in pure rage at Eunício Oliveira the President of the Federal Senate. Temer sat down slowly back into his chair knowing that he certainly lost control of himself during that spit of rage. But he had good reason it seemed as though almost everyone in Brazil wanted him dead and at the very least thrown out of office. "Mr President, as leader of the Senate I must tell you that you can only try your hardest to fix the situation. I suggest that you promise to do your best to rid Brazil of the corruption that has infested it, make yourself seem even better then your predecessor Ms Rousseff". Oliveira said in a calming tone to the president. He was still standing as he was not invited to sit down before Temer threw himself around the Presidential desk.

"The people are near revolt, and yet I am supposed to somehow fix all their problems with the click of my fingers. These people do not have any clue as to what needs to be done to fix this country. Me and Rousseff manged to get this country out of a recession and yet they still demand things of us that are not within our reach." Temer raged on although not as much as he had just done remaining seated in his chair.

"Like I said Mr President, the best is all you can do and you must show the people that or else they will not respect you." Eunício Oliveira continued as he tried his hardest to get his point across to the President. Oliveira was not the biggest support of Temer after they had disagreed over the impeachment of Rousseff with Oliveria voting for the impeachment. He knew that very soon a trail may becoming the way towards Temer which would result in the collapse of Brazilian coalition government. In some cases Oliveria was hoping that maybe Temer would bite the bullet and leave but from this talk it appeared that Mr Temer was not going anywhere. "At the next full house Senate, Mr Oliveria I would like to make a speech there and give the Senate full confidence of me." Temer requested before he put his face into the palm of his hands that where placed upon the desk.

January 1st, 2017 - "Het Torentje", The Hague

It was fresh in the old office. The last renovation of the complex was over fifty years ago. There was still single glass in the old windows, the covered heating system barely produced enough heat to keep a man comfortable if he was right next to it and there were plenty of ways for the cold January wind to find their way into the Prime Ministers office. It was because of this, that the Prime Minister often chose to work from home. Today, that had proven to be impossible. Even though lighting fireworks was technically only legal between 6PM on the 31st of December and 2AM on the 1st of January, the citizens of The Hague had developed the habit of lighting it throughout the last weeks of the old year and the first ones of the new one. Even in the block near the Prime Ministers appartment. To be able to focus and to get away from all the loud bangs, he had decided to go to his formal office for today.

Not that it was a busy day. All civil servants had a day off - even his personal assistant. Much to his relief his secretary, a 62-year old woman whom he often called his second mother, had decided to come to work anyhow. So instead of his personal assistant, his secretary was in the room with him as he browsed the newspapers of the day. Most newspaper headings were about the relatively quiet new year celebrations. Apparently, the damage done to public property during the night was around 5 million euros lower than previous years.

Mark Rutte was frowning, however, as he picked up the Telegraaf. A newspaper known as right-wing, populist - a bit like the Sun in England. It's heading was the reason the leading man of the Liberal party was frowning.

New proof: Russians involved in MH-17 downing
Will these scumbags ever face justice?

Image

Hilversum - The special police unit equiped with the task of getting to the bottom of the MH-17 disaster declared at a press conference yesterday that the proof that Russian nationals were involved in the downing of the plane is "overwhelming". Photographs, witness statements and satalite images place Russian military equipment and personnel at the scene of the suspected launching site of the BUK-missile that ended the life of so many of our compatriots.

Voices around the country are calling for action. Prime Minister Mark Rutte vowed to leave no stone unturned the day after the cowardly attack on the civilian aircraft. Was this only bluff? It is time for our government to take action, to stop standing idly by as (..)

Tired, Rutte threw the newspaper away. It landed on the heap of discarded newspapers he had studied this morning.

'Marga, get me Bert on the phone,' he said, suppressing a yawn. 'I can't look weak on this subject, not with the elections coming up..'

His secretary nodded and dialed a number on his secured satellite phone. He used it only when he needed to conduct secret talks; for phone calls that should not be leaked to foreign intelligence services.

'Koenders.' It was apparent that his Foreign Affairs minister had been partying yesterday. He sounded tired and slightly hung-over. In his defence, it was only a few minutes past eight.

'Bert! Did you read the newspapers?' Rutte started. He knew darn well his Foreign Affairs minister had only just woken up, and couldn't have read the papers yet.

'Nope,' Koenders answered. 'I'm in bed. It's eight 'o clock on New Years Day, Mark, if you hadn't noticed..'

'It's about that press conference yesterday..'

'Right. The Russians. We knew that six months ago. Nothing new. What do you want me to do?' Koenders sounded quite annoyed, but Rutte didn't care at all.

'We need to publicly demand the extradiction of the men involved. We have pictures, a few names even.'

'They will never..'

'I don't care, Bert. Your party is at 9 seats in the polls. The Freedom Party is the virtual biggest party right now. Prime Minister Wilders. Do you want that? This is one of the sticks they will use to hit at us in the coming campaign. We have to make a point.'

'Alright, alright. I'll draw up a letter later today. Consider it done.' With that, Koenders broke off the phone call.

Recipient: Vladimir Poetin, President of the Russian Federation

Dear Mr. Putin,

Attached to this mail you will find the preliminary report of our special investigative unit researching the MH-17 disaster. In this report, it is concluded that five Russian nationals are suspected to have played key roles in the downing of the MH-17 flight on the 17th of july 2014. Their names and suspected current whereabouts can be found in the second attachment to this e-mail.

We request the extradiction of these individuals and require full cooperation in the process of bringing them to justice. We expect a reply to our formal request within 6 weeks, as is required under international law.

If in the process of bringing the suspected Russian nationals to justice any involvement of the Russian government becomes apparent, we retain the possibility of suing the Russian Federation for damages and war crimes in an international tribunal.

Yours truly,

Bert Koenders, Minister of Foreign Affairs
The Kingdom of the Netherlands

Chapter 2: Um novo Brasil, um novo futuro
Brasilia, Brazil
12th January 2017

Ernesto Ayon, leader of the Brazilian Labour Party

A young face stud at the podium of the leader of the PTB headquarters, some had come to witness a moment that they believed would go down in history and some had come to scout out the competition. Towards the front of the stage that was situated in the main hall of the party headquarters was official party members and behind them many journalists come to document the events. Today was the day that the Brazilian Labour Party relaunches itself with a new passionate leader. That leader was the young man standing at the leaders podium, he was Ernesto Ayon. A middle class man from Feira de Santana in the state of Bahia, he had seen with his own eyes the effects of an corrupt Brazilian political class and wanted to change it. Once a promising entrepreneur he had started a small business chain selling electronics to people in Bahia, but after unrest he had seen in his hometown against the government and the lack to protect the working people of Brazil; he sold his business jumping to join the Brazilian Labour Party. Now after 3 years of party service he was leader, many believed because he was the one to save Brazil. "People of Brazil..." Ernesto spoke calmly but powerfully to the crowd of people "today the Brazilian Labour Party would like to announce that I Ernesto Ayon. Is the new leader of the party and that we will now be changing our attitude to better fit the needs and wants of the people. For too long this nation had been plagued with corruption, with bribes and dirty deals behind the backs of the working people of this nation. Well from this day fourth the party will not be part of this anymore. As my first act as leader of the Brazilian Labour Party I am announcing that the coalition that we are in with the current government will no longer include us, I have sent a letter to president Temer telling him exactly the reasons as to why we have left." Ernesto speaks proudly as he lifts up a single piece of paper with the logo of the PTB clearly at the top of it and it is address to the President. A huge roar of applause now fills the room with many party members cheering the new leaders decision. Many of the news reports write quickly into the small notebooks that they had brought, with many trying to think of a good headline for the story. This was a momentous occasion as it had now appeared that President Temer had lost control of his government and now he had lost support of much of the Senate how he was going to stay in power was a mystery.

It had appeared that in a small amount of time, Ernesto was now in the minds of every Brazilian. But that was what he wanted for this was a show of not only strength but of change. Temer will be forced to play a hand that Ernesto wants him to which is to call for an early election. Ernesto could see many of the government members running and panicking through the streets of Brasilia trying to get the word to their collages, he could see the fear in them and knew he could play this off. "No more will Brazil be subject to unmoral politicians. No more will the labour of this people got to waste and line the pockets of the corrupt. No more will this country suffer at the hands political elite. We will have change. The Brazilian Labour party is the only party that is truly committed to its people. We will have a new Brazil, a new future." Enresto stud upright shaking his fist angrily at some imaginary being in the room. Mean of the people remaining could not do anything but clap and support what Ernesto had done, it was a risky move a very risky move but with the right planning Ernesto could reach his goal of trying to call an early election.

A few hours later

The capital of Brazil was up in arms almost with many people running across the whole city to document what was going. Ernesto was sitting down in his office preparing a letter it would seem to whom well José Ramos Alvarez the chief of staff for Mr Ayon could not tell. José was carrying many newspapers from the local stand that was just down the road from the headquarters of the PTB. He threw them down on top of Ernesto's desk who quite slowly put the lid back onto his fountain pen and placed just the right hand side of him. "Go on read some of the headlines Ernesto." José ordered as he pulled up the chair that was behind him and pulled in closely to the the desk of Ernesto. Ernesto picked up the first newspaper which was the O Globo the biggest newspaper in Brazil. Ernesto began to chuckle to himself "The Prodigal Son. Is that what they are calling me." he asked José.

"I think you will find that they are being a bit sarcastic." José simply replied "That is pretty much the same for the rest of the newspapers. They like to think that you are some jump up little school boy who is punching way above his weight." José fell back into his chair getting himself comfortable. "I think you are making an enemy of the newspapers. They must not like it when you end a government coalition where their best friend is in charge of the whole of the country. But who knows, maybe they are calling you a Prodigal Son because they think that you are actually one."

"Well if that is true.. I wonder what will be the headline if I was to become President." Ernesto begins to chuckle to himself, he then puts the newspaper back down onto the desk. He stud up looking out of his office in a very dominating manner towards the Presidential palace he could see many cars outside of various government officials now gathered inside the house of President Temer.

Palácio da Alvorada

"How dare that little swine." Michel Temer shouted at the man gathered in the front room of the Palácio da Alvorada. "I am trying to make a strong and stable government and this Ernesto Ayon decided to pull out of the coalition that I am trying to keep alive." Michel started to temper around the front room looking at every single person now present. Eliseu Padilha a friend of the President and Chief of staff stepped forward out of the small corner of the room he was situated in. "Mr President I would like to iterate that this Ernesto clearly has a plan. A plan that must have been in the making for sometime for him to decided to trigger such an act. He knows what he is doing Mr President. I request that you maintain your stance and continue to work with what you have, then this whole thing will look as though Mr Ayon has put at risk and damage the nation of Brazil." Eliseu finished as he had made his way towards the left hand side of the President.

"You are right Eliseu. I will continue my duty as President." Temer shakes his finger at the rest of the cabinet. "I will complete the rest of the term I was entrusted to fill. Any attempts to undermine that will be dealt with... let this be a message that I am the President and no jumped up little school boy is going to have me running away from my duty as President." The President's face began to go red with passion, clearly the Temer was ready to defend his position with what ever he has got. But now he must make some reforms and try to get the people that elected him back onto his side.

The musings of the Rt. Hon. Tim Farron MP. Wednesday 11th January 2017.

"Questions to the Prime Minister!" The speaker roared above the hubbub of the chamber. I rolled his eyes as he leant into his corner seat. I could see the leader of the opposition rifling through his notes. About to make an arse of himself for another week, he thought glumly. Mr Corbyn seemed to lack a certain something to be leader of his party. It wasn't principal, he had buckets of that, what then. He lacked, ruthlessness perhaps, cunning maybe?

I looked across the floor and saw the Prime Minister, muttering with the Chancellor. I couldn't decide who I've never been sure who I dislike more, and as I waited on the opposition benches I tried to make up my mind again. Theresa May seemed to be doing her best to channel Margaret Thatcher, as if that accursed woman could still be haunting this chamber from beyond the grave. I find her truly repulsive, as I've been saying since taking the leadership, no coalition, at least, not with her. The Chancellor wasn't much better, a snake of a human. He'd slithered up the cabinet, Transport, Defense, Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary, finally to the Exchequer. I felt a sneer cross his face, I couldn't think of anything particularly vicious to insult him with. The social democrat that lives in the back of my mind then piped up. He's a tory, enough said. If only politics was so easy. But the imp was right, politics has become even more identitarian nowadays, and with the way things are going, it would only be getting more so.

I sat and twiddled my thumbs for the first few minutes. Do any parliamentarians really care what the PM is doing for the rest of the day? A waste of time to be sure. If I had my way, we'd get right into the questions, more questions for the smaller parties too, I thought with a faint smile.

"Jeremy Corbyn!" Bercow shouted above the mix of jeers and cheers from the assembled MPs.
"Thank you, Mr Speaker," Corbyn said as he leant over the dispatch box for his first attack of the day. "I would like to share in the sentiments shared by the Prime Minister, in hoping that everyone has had a pleasant christmas. I must disappoint the PM however, there are many people in our country who have not had a pleasant christmas. The staff of the NHS have had one of the most stressful times of the year, made worse by Tory cuts and lack of investment. Pensioners and poorer people can't afford to keep the heating on, thanks to Tory cuts to welfare, does the Prime Minister honestly think that they could have had a good christmas?"

"The Prime Minister!"
"I know quite as well as the honourable gentleman the anguish some in our country feel." The Prime Minister took in a breath as the Beast of Bolsover scoffed loudly from the front row. "I wll know their plight, and we in the Conservative Party have been doing all we can to improve the conditions of the poor since 2010. If it wasn't for the mismanagement of the economy by the Labour Party, we would not be having to cut some aspects of public spending."
"Jeremy Corbyn!"
"If the Prime Minister will not give myself a fair answer, perhaps she can give one to Michael." Several people on the government benches chuckled as the Leader of the Opposition pulled out a thin piece of paper with his customary letter from a member of the public. "Michael is a student Lincolnshire, he says that his College has seen funding decrease due to Tory cuts to various grants made to colleges for disabled students and low acheiving students. This he says, has made it difficult for teachers to cope, as class sizes have increased making learning difficult. What does the Prime Minister have to say to Michael.
"Prime Minister." May rolled her eyes as she stood.
"I would tell Michael that we have not cut the base funding for schools and colleges and in real terms it'll be increasing through the life of this parliament."
"Rubbish!" The beast yelled, joined by many of the Labour MPs.
The back and forth continued for several more questions, I slumped in my seat content to let the drone of the Prime Minister wash over me. Leading the Liberal Democrats was not an easy job, things had been so simple for Paddy, Charles and Nick. Until the coalition that is. We definitely should have stayed away from the Tory party, it truly killed us. Nine seats, its a sad state of affairs to be sure. Now its left to me to build the party back to it's former glory. He could feel Nick Clegg behind him. At least the fool had the good grace stand down as leader, that said, I doubt he could have stayed on. These Orange Book Liberals will be the death of us. It was uniting with the SDP and firmly taking the centre-centre left that saved this party from, well, what we are now. Norman Lamb was sat next to him, he knew that grey haired creep was eyeing up his job. He hadn't stood against him in 2015, and that was just as well. Sarah was nice enough, he mused, as his newest MP stood.
"Sarah Olney."
"Thank you Mr Speaker. Many people have been asking for months whatever happened to the Tory election fraud scandal. Something I myself was wondering, now as an elected MP, I can finally ask. What ever happened? Furthermore, would the Prime Minister care to comment on the accusations made by the Independent yesterday, that claimed that the Tories misdirected ballot boxes and that Tory activists prevented people from voting in several constituencies?"
The jeers from the government benches were almost as loud as the shouts from the opposition benches. I felt even myself raising my voice to heckle the party opposite. He had yet to read the morning paper, he'd been busy all of tuesday in his constituency and had barely made it back down to London in time to reserve his seat earlier in the day.
"Order, order!" Bercow said standing, "Order, it is not becoming of this chamber to yell and ball like children, Mr Lammy, do try to control yourself man. I know parliament is very exciting but you must try and restrain yourself. Thank, you, The Prime Minster.
"As has been said multiple times, the allegations that suggested the Conservative Party commited fraud during the election, are out of proportion, it was an honest mistake which has been dealt with. I haven't read todays Independent, but I can say with confidence that they are groundless."
I leant back and tapped Sarah on the shoulder, "Good job," I said grinning, she smiled back and handed me the paper after pulling it from her bag. "Take a read, I think there might be more to this Tim." I nodded and listened to the rest of the proceedings with a growing feeling of excitement for the end of questions. Angus Robertson was up next, I had a bet with Alistair that he would say Scotland at least four times in his opening question and referendum at least twice. I turned down my £50 winnings later, a good christian can't go gambling. I examined the newspaper as I sat with a couple of friends in one of the many bars in Westminster. I wasn't drinking however, this was far more exciting. May sending e-mails, calling on activists to help prevent Labour voters getting out, plants in hustings debates, the lot. With more to come, this was certainly going to be an interesting January.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe looked at the latest debt report and could not bring himself to show anything but frustration, not wanting to show weakness in front of his cabinet but it was too much, too long, too far.

The highest public debt in the developed world as a percentage of GDP, has taken a toll on private-sector economic activity, preventing more dynamic growth. Japanese was large certainly, a titan on the world’s economic stage, but could be so much more….

Abe knew he had too long looked abroad, bringing Japan into an important international role strengthening partnerships with the United States and becoming involved in security operations the world over, but now a change was needed not a change in resolve but a change in focus, in priorities.

Present Day

“Resolved! The Bill carries!” The Japanese parliament burst into applause as Abe looked onward, for the first time in six months he relaxed and breathed a sigh of relief. It took everything he had, all political capital but it was done.

The bill became known as the “Stagnation Act” it would be the end of high tariffs, the end of micromanagement in the economy, the end to high regulation and restriction. Just as importantly it would take a huge cut into government spending and the public debt, large dramatic steps.

All the ineffective infrastructure projects would die, a dead limb being cut off. The RCC would be able to be incredibly aggressive in disposing of bad debt, the subsidies and protections for private businesses would fade away over the next 5 years like weaning a child off their mother’s milk and the free market would be embraced. Finally taxes were slashed and the oppressive yoke removed.

At the signing of the bill the Japanese markets stumbled as a result of the unshackling of the free market, a few wobbly first steps responding to the change. But confidence was still high and it would not stop there. Bills to shrink corporate cash holdings, to reduce investment barriers both foreign and domestic, the introduction of a corporate governance code, and a total overhaul of the corporate tax structure, no longer would it be among the highest in the world.

Japan had given up on Keynesianism. And now it was time for the next part in his plan, Abe boarded his plane one the way to South Korea….

မြန်မာ ဇန်နဝါရီလစတုတ္ထ

It was the 4th of January of 2017, 69 years later to the day from the date of Myanmar's independence from the British Empire, and in a long-held tradition, a grand parade was being held by the Tatmadaw within the Burmese capital, Naypyidaw. Type 62 and 69 tanks, EE-9 Cascavels, Type 85 and MT-LB APCs, and hundreds of troops parade about displaying the grandiose military prowess of Myanmar's armed forces.

Htin Kyaw, Myanmar's president, walked between two rows of soldiers standing at attention and out onto an elevated platform, facing a large crowd of Burmese citizens. Only the masterful words of a powerful orator would be enough to honor this great occasion and greater nation, and if a powerful orator was what the president needed to be, then that is what he would be. Htin Kyaw grabbed a microphone from a stand in front of him, and the cheering and applause of the crowd died down as his audience waited with anticipation to hear his proclamations.

"People of our great nation of Myanmar," the president began "it has been 69 years since the birth of our beautiful country in it's latest iteration, our independence from the British and the date on which relations were established between our nation, then known as Burma, with France, the Soviet Union, and our neighbors India and Thailand."

The president looked out into the crowd, into the faces of dozens, maybe hundreds of citizens before continuing: "And since our nation's creation, we have been attacked constantly, by groups like the Arakan Army, Kachin State Armies, Karenni Army, Ta'ang National Liberation Army, United Wa State Party, Al-Qaeda's allies in the Rohingya population, and many more; However, even though they have sought to undermine our unity since the birth of our country, they have never succeeded, and the Burmese people remain united to this day, and we shall remain united for the history of all generations still living, and many not even yet born."

"We know there are nations out there who have been funding these groups in the hopes of promoting their own national interests at the cost of the lives of innocent Burmese civilians and soldiers, and we shall remain on guard against them, but now, in our new era of democracy, in which we are no longer plagued by sanctions from the rest of the world, we shall expand our foreign friendships and become an accepted member of the international community."

"We have worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to create a comprehensive plan to expand our relations with other Asian nations; We will be holding votes in the Assembly of the Union on matters which will extend hands of friendship to fellow Asian nations, and we will work towards a comprehensive plan to eventually reach mutual cooperation and respect with all nations which have not shown hostility towards us, on this anniversary, we shall enter into a new era, one of strengthened foreign relations, and a stronger and more unified domestic sphere."

မြန်မာ ဇန်နဝါရီလဌမ

Following a series of votes in the Amyotha Hluttaw (the upper legislature) in the pursuit of a new era of international friendships, the government of Myanmar has:
  • recognized the Senkaku Islands as part of Japan,
  • recognized the Judea and Samaria area as part of Israel,
  • recognized the disputed Vietnamese-controlled islands of the Spratly archipelago as part of Vietnam,
  • approved further funding into research and preparation for the production of nuclear and solar powerplants to combat energy shortages in the country.

Chapter I: The Center Cannot Hold.

June 5th, 2016 - Gianfranco Fini's Residence, Bologna

Gianfranco Fini had been out of work for 6 years. That hadn't stopped him from acting like the parlamenterian he once was. Once A Politician, Always A Politician. For half a decade he had kept up with his old contacts in the Italian right, from what remained of the monarchist parties, right up to the larger parties like Forza Italia, the former politician had kept old alliances and built new ones, in the hope that he might one day regain the power he'd lost after 2013. It appeared to the former President of the Chamber of deputies that that day might be sooner than even he himself thought. No better evidence of that was the edition of Corriere_della_Sera that he was looking at. The Newspaper, the largest in Italy, could have it's realiability issues, but even Fini had to admit it's Imparciality. Either way, he wouldn't dispute what was in it's front page this day.

Fini's usually expressionless face turned up with a grin. He picked up his phone from his pocket, and after 2 or 3 minutes of squting his eyes in order to place the correct password, complaining about his age not allowing him to see as well as he used to, and inputing the correct contact number, he finally pressed the CALL button.

-"Hello. I asumme you've read the paper today."
-"I have indeed, Toti. I think you know what im calling for." Giovanni Toti was a useful ally for Fini, he was one of the higher ups of Forza Italia he'd been able to keep loyal to him after he broke of from party, and by far the most realiable of those.
-"Of course" answered the political councilor. "But i still don't know how you plan on getting rid of Berlousconi. He's not gonna let you come back.
-"Heh. Leave that to me. For the moment, i want you to prepare the Party for my return. Alert the others, too. "

He then hang up the phone, and plugged in a different number.

-"Carabinieri, how can i help you?" Answered an antipathetic phone operator on the other side of the line.
-"Get Me General Del Settte, tell him Franco calls."

FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY

This New Year's had, thankfully, been much less testing on the government than the previous.

On 1 January 2016 the government had awoke to news of mass sexual assaults, rapes, and theft, primarily in the city of Cologne, but also in Dortmund, Stuttgart, and Düsseldorf, among others. Even worse, it turned out that the perpetrators had primarily been the poor young men who had come to claim asylum in Germany from war-torn areas of North Africa and the Middle East.

The government had been faced with a barrage of pressure and criticism for their decision to let many of these asylum seekers in. Commentators say that Germany's current asylum policy cannot continue, as well as that Germany are bringing in people whose societal attitudes greatly differ from modern European societies. The criticism has not stopped.

"I am told that there was some trouble in Augsberg, as well as Hamburg, of course," that was where he was now. "But otherwise there were only minor incidents across Germany." The Chancellor was told by Maizière, the Minister of the Interior, over the phone.

"Define trouble."

"The vice-president says sexual assault, theft, same as last year. I am hearing some claims of rape but we have ensured that this is not mentioned until it is confirmed."

"If it is in Hamburg I am sure Die Welt will cover this extensively." She thought, then sighed. "It is not as bad as last year, but it still disturbs me that these young men think this is normal."

"We will need more police."

"They need to know better. We should educate them. Classes on sexual consent, like how universities run them." She considered.

"The fact universities do those isn't popular with the right of our party as is, and polls show the public generally sees them as patronising and of little point."

"I cannot please some on my right - AfD-lite - anyway, I doubt something that will make it safer for women on the streets will make it worse. Do you have any other solutions?"

There was a pause. "No." The minister said slowly. The man had not said it, but his thoughts had been made clear. In the silence a thought had popped into both of their heads, even if they would not admit it.

"Exactly. Thank you, Thomas, I shall let you get back to talking with the vice-President." She hung up, and looked to her chief of staff, Peter Altmaier. "Who is next?"

"Steinmeier." Frank-Walter Steinmeir, Minister for Foreign Affairs.

"Good morning, Angela." He greeted her. "It is pleasant to see less reportings of horrific attacks this new year. Anyway, I was composing an email for Donald Trump. I know he does not take office for another few weeks, but I thought it may be useful. Brush his ego, make it clear we value him and what he will contribute on the world stage."

Merkel chuckled. "Yes, that does seem like a good idea. Everything I hear suggests the man likes to feel like he has 'won' something from every conversation he has. We have to make it clear we want their help, and our co-operation helps him." Regardless of whether one knew how to play him however, the man certainly appeared unpredictable. The Chancellor had gotten into a nasty habit of checking the President-Elect's Twitter daily to keep up with Trump's thoughts on current affairs. "At least it will only be four years..."

"I've also gone over the email you want sent to Justin Trudeau. I was thinking of adding in the offer of a state visit?"

"Ah, yes. That would be useful. Perhaps around the same time as the European Parliament accept the trade deal between the EU and Canada." With the rise of Trump, the UK leaving the EU, and the unpredictable future for France, Canada was one of the strongest proponents of liberal democracy remaining. "He's a media darling too, the press should love it."

"Particularly if we can get him to say something supporting the asylum seekers policy."

From: The Office of Chancellor Angela Merkel

Dear Mr. President,

Germany would like to once again congratulate you on your stunning victory last November, and now that we have entered the new year, wish to express that we are looking forward to finally start working with you towards the end of this month.

German-American cooperation is something we consider vital to both countries' security and prosperity and we wish to deepen already close German-American relations during your Presidency.

Regards,

Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany

To: The Office of Nguyễn Xuân Phúc, Prime Minister of Vietnam
From: The Office of Chancellor Angela Merkel

Dear Prime Minister,

As we enter the new year Germany would like to reaffirm its commitment to being Vietnam's greatest European trading partner. Additionally we would like to express our desire for further investment in your country, particularly in developing an additional university after the success of VGU and vocational schools to provide vocational education for Vietnamese people.

The Vietnamese community now numbers over 150,000 in Germany and are greatly appreciated in Germany for the skills they bring and work ethic. Thus we are still committed to providing foreign aid to Vietnam and wish to see the completion of a free-trade deal between the European Union and Vietnam in the near future.

Yours truly,

Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany

From: The Office of Chancellor Angela Merkel

Dear Prime Minister,

In the face of the unsure times approaching us following the election of President Trump, the Federal Republic of Germany would like to reaffirm its commitment to friendship and prosperity between Canada and Germany. Both of our nations are dedicated to liberal democracy, an open, diverse, and inclusive society, and the continuation of NATO as a means of ensuring international co-operation and peace. These are values which we believe should be maintained despite the threats that shall oppose us in the near future.

Additionally we would like to extend an invitation to you and your wife Sophie to come to Germany next month for an official visit.

Germany continues to strongly support the EU-Canada trade deal, set to be approved by the European Parliament next month, and we hope to see Canada alongside Germany at the forefront of the defence of liberal democracy.

Yours truly,

Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany

From: The Office of Chancellor Angela Merkel

Dear Mr. President

Whilst we have now arrived at the last few months of your presidency, we hope that your desire to co-operate and work towards a greater and more prosperous Europe still burns strong. With President Trump soon to be inaugurated, many in my country worry that the United States will take a backseat in international affairs, and thus the nations of Europe must rise to the challenge. This challenge comes not only from across the Atlantic, but across the Channel and to the east as well. We are the twin engines of the European Union, the greatest proponents of coordination, collaboration, prosperity and integration. We must stand, together, for what is right.

Yours truly,

Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany

Palace of the Supreme Leader, Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran, January 2017

"More tea, Mr. President?" offered Supreme Leader Khameini to President Rouhani as the two sat in the Supreme Leader's office, enjoying a cup of tea.

"No, thank you, Supreme Leader." replied the President. Khameini poured himself another cup of tea.

"Would you like to know why I invited you, here, today, Mr. President?" asked the Supreme Leader, who then brought his tea cup to his lips and sipped his tea.

"Yes, I would, Supreme Leader." replied Rouhani

"Well, Mr. President, I am considering the possibility of having Iran take a more active role in the War against Daesh."

"How so?"

"We will invade Daesh held Northern Iraq of course." replied the Supreme Leader, "It allows us to kill two birds with one stone. We get to cripple Daesh and deal with the Kurds. You know I don't like that Erdogan fellow, since he is a heretic, but he is not wrong in viewing the Kurds as a threat. If an independent Kurdistan is established in Syria and in Iraq, will they not also try to establish it in Turkey and in Iran? We cannot have that, especially considering how the Saudi scum might seek to use such a crisis."

"Your concerns are valid, Supreme Leader." stated the President, "How would you like to proceed?"

"Next week, I will address Parliament and then, they will vote on the matter. Let it not be said that we do not cherish the voice of our people." replied the Supreme Leader

"Very good, Supreme Leader." said Rouhanu rising to his feet, "This conversation was quite enjoyable, but I must be on my way."

"Of course."

Chapter II: Marcia Reale

Image

January 20th, 2017 - Quirinal Palace, Rome (Edit, Sorry I Messed The Date Here)

Gianfranco Fini's assumption to the post of Prime minister was not spectacular. But the military parade that followed it was fairly impressive given the short time that the units that were to participate were given. All in all 12,000 Troops and 200 AFV Marched down the streets of Rome. But after the show was over, the new prime minister had a divided country to unify, and a staggering economy to reactivate. As a relief, Fini could count on a 4/6 majority on the legislature, which would make his job substantially easier than that of his predecessors.

As soon as he got back to work the next day, now on the presidential palace, he set to formally submitting amendments to the Italian legislature and law system, especially those that had already been arranged to pass with the newly sworn in Congress And Senate. Each and every one of them was mean to ensure the loyalty of the elements which had brought him to power.

    - Law On National Defence Corporations : Elimination Of Restrictions On Arms Sales To Foreign Countries On Ideological Basis (To Keep The Traditional Capitalists And Weapon Cartels, Represented by Berlousconist Sectors Of Forza Italia Loyal), Subsidization Of Select Arms Corporations (Berreta, Otto Melara, Fiat, ect, ect,), and restrictions on arms imports (To secure blue collar workers threatend by outside competition).
    - Law On Internal Harmony: Provincial Special Autonomy Grants To The Regions Of Aosta Valley, Liguria, Lombardy, Piedmont, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia, Giulia Trentino-South Tyrol, And Veneto (To Appease The Northern Nationalists Of The Lega Nord).
    - Constitutional Referendum For October 29th On The Restoration Of The Monarchy.
    - Law on Internal Wealth Distribution Of 2017: Massive cuts on Corporate And High Income Taxes, Moderate reductions on regular Income taxes (As too appease the middle and wealthy clasess largely supportive of the movement). Total Sessation Of External "Humanitarian Aid", and government support for refugee Organazations, Massive cuts to existing welfare programs, creation of the National Organization For Employment And Housing Stability (NPFEAHS) (which is to replace the former welfare programs, assigning welfare dependents to low Jobs on existing Public And (Government Friendly) Private institutions (In order to gain the favor with the poorer clasess), which shall also create housing projects in colaboration with private industries in order to eliminate fears of a housing crisis.

However, the small sacrifices Fini made at the altar of party support had their benefits, as the legislature had arranged itself to keep quiet when the new Prime Minister passed his far more important decrees, which where to be in effect by the end of the month.

    - Edict On Border Security And Protection: Special Powers Granted To The Navy, Coast Guard, to ensure the "redirection of trans-mediterrenian migrants and asylum seekers" to other states (orders are secretly given to sink ships getting too close to Italian waters, which are to be classified as Privateers, and the navy is forbidden from attemting slavage operation of these ships outside the Italian EEZ).
    - National Security Reorganization Edict: The Garda Di Finanza and Carabinieri are merged into the new "Security Police", which is coincidentally headed by Fini loyalists (already pre-approved by the congress, which swors them in as a formality) effectively giving him control over the entire internal security apparatus.
    - Mafia Reduction Decree: Curtails certain civil liberties in the territories of Sicily and Southern Italy for the pourpose of eradicating local crime cartels there. Empowers the Security Police to undertake searches and arrests without warrants, and places all Mafia related crimes under jurisdiction of a speacial Security Police prosecutor office.

Tho these are only the first steps in securing the home front, they were a strong beginning, but for now, it would have to, no use altering the populace too much. And either way, there was a more pressing issue relating to external affairs that needed to be addressed.

Fini picked up his office phone and dialed the foregin ministry number.

- "Yes Mr Fini?" the man answering was Pasquale Terraciano, the former ambassador to the UK and current Foregin Minister, who had been key in securing his leadership in the party, and who'd been amply rewarded for it.
- "Ahh... Don't be so formal Pascual. I'm faxing you an important letter you are to send to the americans, after appropriate ummm, whats the word... diplomatizing edit." The prime minister was never a diplomatic person unless he adequately prepared himself to be, but a foregin minister errased the need to be.
- "Yes GIanno, i'l take care of it"

From: Prime Minister Of The Italian State, Gianfranco Fini

Dear Mr. President,

In the best interest of the security of my country, and of all of NATO, i must inform you of my desires to protect the southern border of Italy from Ilegal border crosses, amongst which potential terrorists that inted to harm you great United States might be hidden. This, in addition to the imminent threat of ISIL forces in Cyrenaica, and the inexistance of a centralized Libyan state has forced me into a position were i can no longer consider anything less than direct intervention as sufficient to restore peace to this area. We wish you to understand our motivations for this as being absolutely necessary, given the evident failure of UN talks.

This is the Japan News Network (JNN)

Image

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe finished the weeklong meetings with South Korean Leadership negotiating a number of points of contention between Japan and South Korea. Just a few hours ago, the Prime Minister and South Korean Leadership made joint statements on the newest treaty negotiated between the two nations. It started with a statement regarding the occupation of Korea that continued till the end of World War II.

Shinzo Abe Speech Clip

“We can never forget those who fought with honor for their country, but we must acknowledge dishonorable actions when they occur, to not do so and speak frankly about them dishonors our nation and the sacrifice of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.”

News Cast Continues

This seems to mark a reversal in policy of Abe who made several controversial visits to monuments that house the remains of Japanese war criminals from the Second World War.

The joint press conference continued with a reaffirmation of the Commitment to both nations established in the 1965 treaty normalizing relations, with the South Korean President making the statement

“We cannot dwell on the past, the challenges in our future are too great to overcome alone and it is time for the next chapter in the relationship between our nations”

The new “Pusan Treaty” was the presented by the leadership, it announced a series of joint military exercises between South Korea and Japan with an invitation for the United States to participate. Additionally a joint venture to develop “the most advanced and comprehensive missile defense system in the world” was announced citing “missile defense of paramount importance to the security of both nations.” No doubt a deliberate reference to the North Korean missile program.

South Korea long known for high tariffs and protectionism also showed signs of a change in economic policy, praising Japan’s recent Pro-Business reforms and announcing a free trade agreement as part of the “Pusan Treaty” lowering tariffs and trade barriers on goods between the two nations, making them among the lowest tariffs South Korea has with any nation.

Prime Minister Abe recognized the territorial rights of South Korea over the “Liancourt Rocks”, a series of small islands in the sea of Japan and stated a joint committee would be formed to “settle the formal border between the nations so long left murky”, this marks the most deliberate step in recent memory towards settling the territorial disputes and claims between the nations.

The final article of the treaty was perhaps most shocking, Shinzo Abe affirmed in no uncertain terms the support of a “Unified Korea committed to the principles of freedom, democracy, free markets, rule of law, and respect for human rights.” As well as the creation of a Korean Unification Fund, which would assist in the development and incorporation of former North Korean territory in the event of unification. In the event of an unfortunate Korean Conflict, “something to be avoided at all costs,” continued Abe, Abe pledged unconditional and unwavering support to South Korea and unfettered access of American Forces to Japanese bases.

“The Pusan Treaty” will likely go down as one of the largest and most important treaties in the history of both nations and the region as a whole. Prime Minister Abe has sent a clear signal as to his foreign policy objectives for the remainder of his term, the question now is what will his meeting in Vietnam in a few days hold for the future of our nation. We will be happy to meet with you at any time of your choice.

Donald Trump's Aide Walks up to him.

"I have heard that some senators may be trying to impeach you for the russia scandal in the future."

"That is not good.", says trump.

"What should we do about it, sir?", his aide asks

"Stop any investigations into the matter, this time do it quietly.", he says

"I don't reccomend this, as if congress finds out, you can get impeached."

"Do it anyway. Don't tell congress."

The Cabinet room was filled with the gentle sounds of shuffling shoes and rustling papers, as the cool morning light spilled through the large arched windows that ran along its length. It was a long rectangular room, and would be spacious, if it weren’t for the massive oval shaped table that dominated the centre of the room as well as the twenty four ministers of the Canadian federal government taking their seats around it.

“Alright settle down everybody we have a number of issues to discuss. I trust you all enjoyed your Christmas holidays and New Year celebrations, but it’s time to get back into the swing of things”

The rich voice of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau could be heard throughout the chamber, slightly deadened by the oak cladding on the walls of the room. A few smiles and some muted chuckles circulated the table as Trudeau shot out one of his famous grins. Everyone here was a friend, or at least pretended to be one. As his grin faded he continued

“Let’s get to it, I’ve got two or three issues I want to clear on my agenda first and then we’ll get to your reports. I want to start with trade today. François, I’d like to begin negotiation on a trade deal with the Chinese government, I believe you’ll be able to achieve something in this area?”

The trade minister sat forward in his chair and snorted.

“Everyone wants a trade deal with the Chinese, it’s all about whether we’ve got anything they want. I suppose you want to focus on raw materials?”

“Sure why not? We’ve got the oil sands in the west and a pretty well established mining industry at this point.” François sat back in his chair and ran his hands through his greying hair.

“You might be on to something, they’ll surely want some kind of deal to gain access to them sort of materials, to be frank they need it to keep up the insane growth they’re supposedly achieving.”

Trudeau nodded emphatically, chewing the end of his burgundy pen. “Alright that’s sorted, what about the UK?”

“What about it? Not much to say there, we’re just about to complete a trade deal with the EU, it’s been in the works for a few years and should hopefully mean a boost in trade between us and Europe, as for-”

“I believe the Prime minister is referring to Brexit François” Interjected Chrystia Freeland.

A flash of annoyance crossed François’s face as his eyes flicked over at the foreign affairs minister before settling back on the Prime Minister.

“As for the UK and Brexit, we could probably use this opportunity to dictate a favourable agreement on our end. The British government is currently looking increasingly desperate for some sort of ally in terms of trade.” The trade minister shrugging as he spoke. “However, the rest of the EU, especially the Germans, won’t be too pleased with us if we begin to even discuss some sort of trade deal with the UK before they officially leave the Union, and it has the potential to jeopardise our deal with the EU in the long run.”

Trudeau sat back in his chair and rubbed the bridge of his nose.

“So we have to choose?”

François pursed his lips and tapped his pen on the sheaf of paper that was sat in front of him.

“Not necessarily. It’d be risky, but we could contact the Brits discretely, offer a deal and hope that the EU doesn’t find out until the EU deal has been ratified and put in place. There’s no guarantee it’d work but we have the potential to deal with both, and as an added bonus it’d give the UK government a bit of wiggle room in terms of negotiations.”

Nodding slowly Trudeau sat forward in his chair again.

“It’d be worth the risk to help our cousins out of a tight spot again, plus more trade is good. Alright, I’d like to you to email your letters to the Chinese and the British to me when you’ve completed them and I’ll have a look.”

Trudeau shifted in his seat and flicked through a few pages in front of him before settling and looking over at the defence minister and the finance minister.

“Harjit, Bill, I need you two to begin looking into the viability of increasing defence funding. We’re a member of NATO, we need to find the money to meet our 2% of GDP commitment to the alliance. I fear that President Trump won’t appreciate nations freeloading on the US’s military might for much longer, especially with the noises the Russians are making.”

“You do realise what you’re asking right?” exclaimed Bill Morneau “you’re asking me to over double the amount of money we put into defence every year, I’m not sure I can gather support for that kind of move never mind find the money”

“Look, let me worry about the public side of It, I know you can find the money, the country’s economy is going pretty strong at the moment you’ll figure something out. Harjit, we’ll discuss the best ways in which the money will be spent at a future date.”

The defence minister nodded and Trudeau turned a few more pages in his folder, shutting down any further dissent from the minister for finance as the words died on Bill’s lips.

“Right, that’s it from me. Let’s start with your reports, Jane start us off will you, how’s health looking…”

The International times
Bringing the news from around the world

RIOTS ACROSS ITALY
Following the news that Italy would be sending troops into Libya a mass protest against the government began in Rome. This soon devolved into all out rioting against the government in Rome with many buildings beaning ransacked by looters. These protests started to spread across the whole of Italy after the further news broke that a invasion without the consent of the UN and EU would still be happening. Major riots across many major Italian cities including Milan, Florence, Venice and Napels. With an referendum soon on the to bring back the Monarchy has not pleased many of the Republicans and Liberals in Italy claim that Prime Minister Gianfranco Fini is nothing more then trying to bring back the Fascist Italy that was ruled by Mussolini, which has lead to Fini being pictured as Mussolini on many memes. If the Prime minister is to remain in control of the people he must do something to appease many of the Italian people who appear to fed up with current Italian politics. The International community is yet to come together over the issue but many seem against it.

German attacks on migrants
A German man was arrest last Tuesday following a weapon found that was used to kill a family of migrants that had fled from Syria. The man a Herbert Steinhäuser was arrested and charged with 5 counts of murder after the weapon was found with his DNA on it. Steinhäuser was a member the German Neo-nazi group Autonome Nationalisten. While a case like this is not unusual it has recent shed light on increasing German attacks on refugees and migrants with some group like Amnesty international asking the German government to increase support for them while also cracking down on attacks against Migrants in the German Republic. Steinhäuser is set to be seen in court by the end of the year with the case gaining much attention as the Steinhäuser murder trail is going to be on the minds of many Germans

Japanese backlash on the Pusan treaty
After the signing of the Pusan treaty with the South Korean government, many Japanese patriots felt disgusted by the actions of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe calling him a traitor to the Japanese people and the Emperor.
When the news broke many patriotic Japanese called for a protest against the government with the main protest being at the Yasukuni Shrine where their are many Japanese soldiers that fought in the second world war are buried. With War Criminals inside the walls it is the center of the protest with many people bearing the old Imperial flag and pictures of Yamamato and Tojo. A large group of around 400 are reportedly staying close to the shire as a protest movement until either Japan pulls out of the Pusan treaty or Prime Minister Abe leaves office.

International pressure on Myanmar
The UN and the International community continue to put pressure onto the government on Myanmar to better increase the civil rights of the Muslim people in the country. Rohingya people are still oppressed servery by both the government and the people of Myanmar. The UN will be meeting soon to discuss if further pressure and action is needed on Myanmar to better improve the countries civil rights.

"Netherlands needs to present"
Following news that the team left with the task of finding the cause of the downing the MH-17 had found considerable evidence for Russian involvement both the EU and UN are requesting that the Netherlands releases the full evidence that the downing of the flight was done to Russian involvement. "The Netherlands need to present the evidence it has gathered to the international community so we can act accordingly." said Junker of the EU commission. There are still some doubts about the news and some in the world believed that the news would bring renewed violence after much of the combat has appeared to stop with only small scale skirmishes happening between Ukraine and Russian separatists.

Iranian Parliament, Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran, January 2017

With much pomp and ceremony, Supreme Leader Khameini strode up to the podium and looked out at all the members of parliament in their seats. He stared into the cameras that were filming him and broadcasting his image all over Iran.

"My people,

We live in perilous times. Daesh, propped up by their paymasters in Riyadh and Washington sow death and terror in Syria and Iraq, while the Great Satan, the United States and the Little Satan, Israel, seek to undermine the sovereignty and independence of the Islamic Republic of Iran. They lie about us to the International Community and seek to prevent us from achieving our great destiny. We have lost many in the War against Daesh, but more can be done, to put an end to this great evil. It is time for Iran to fight! All of Iran must go to aid of their brothers in Syria and Iraq and succor Bashar Al-Assad. If we do not act now, Daesh will grow stronger and drown us in our own blood. It is easy for the Great Powers, be it the United States or even our ally, Russia, to wage war from a distance. But for us, what happens in the Middle East affects us directly. Furthermore, those Daesh thugs twist the World of Allah and his Prophet, Peace Be Upon Him. They are not true Muslims and should be punished! That is why, my people, with the approval of Parliament, I am calling for the full mobilization of the Iranian Armed Forces to put an end to this great evil!"

The Supreme Leader received a standing ovation and much cheering. The Order for Military Mobilization passed with unanimity in the Parliament.

Letter to President Bashar Al-Assad of Syria:

Dear Mr. President,

I would be interested in inviting you to a Summit in Tehran, in February, to discuss Daesh and the delineation of territory once the threat of Daesh is dealt with. I'd furthermore like to discuss the Kurdish situation.

Sincerely,

Ayatollah Ali Khameini, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran

Letter to President Reccep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey:

I would be interested in inviting you to a Summit in Tehran, in February, to discuss Daesh and the delineation of territory once the threat of Daesh is dealt with. I'd furthermore like to discuss the Kurdish situation.

Speech by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe

Image

横暴

I join you today to discuss the specter of Tyranny, despite the progress made since the conclusion of the Second World War the scars of the conflict can still be see all over the world including our proud nation. I need not mention that blood spilt on Japanese soil, and the destruction that ravaged our nation. Our recovery from the war was considered by many to a miracle, and indeed in many ways it was, strengthened by our resolve to never again declare war, practice expansionism or subjugation of other peoples and nations.

To those protesting outside shires across Japan honoring our fallen soldiers, commend your resolve but I shall not be deterred from my course. Today I am announcing the construction of several monuments across Japan to commemorate our brave soldiers fallen in conflicts past. It will acknowledge but not honor the war criminals whom once served our nation, it will be a reminder that despite our love of country and the exceptionalism of the Japanese people we are only human and capable of folly. To those who say they will not leave the shires till I leave office I ask you only this, “would those you are protesting in the name of respect your right to protest? Would the police currently protecting you do the same under their leadership?”

“Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it” that is often said. Today we have an example of what happens when these lessons go unhindered. In the name of fighting terror Italy has resolved itself to send troops into Libya. Though Libya often serves as a haven for terrorists, it is no excuse for a flagrant violation of international law and taking unilateral action without the consent of the UN, NATO or the United Nations.

Even more concerning is Italy taking steps towards restoring an authoritarian regime. Democracy is not perfect, but being frustrated with having to respect the rights of mankind does not justify giving yourself to the specter of repression and tyranny. I urge Italy to reverse its troubling course and I ask that all nations condemn authoritarianism in all its forms. Today is the day of the Rising Sun, our country shall be a beacon, a new dawn for liberty, freedom, and the common rights of mankind. Thank You

Washington D.C, United States

The Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, and President Donald Trump stride into the Senate. They begin to speak about the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Thank you for that very gracious and warm welcome. I'm honored to be here tonight. I appreciate you all listening. Tonight I want to take a few minutes to discuss a grave threat to peace and America's determination to lead the world in confronting that threat.

The threat comes from Iran. It arises directly from the Iranian regime's own actions, its history of aggression and its drive toward an Iran controlled middle east.

The Iranian regime has now invaded Iraq, who poses no threat to Iran. Iran's Supreme Leader has stated that we propped up ISIS. This is completely baseless, as we have been attacking ISIS, and trying to stabilize the region for quite a few years now.

I will support Iraq at all costs if Iran takes action. I hope the International community will help me with this deed for peace and stability.

Donald Trump is trying to strengthen America on the world stage, and get his approval rating up.

(OOC: More will come tomorrow but I need to go asleep)

The Security Police is used to suppress the riots, which is done with methods similar to those utilized by Russian internal security services. In Milan, the government calls upon local Lega Norde affiliated political groups to fight the rioters, which begin to be Organized into political "Street Patrols", that co-operate closely with the security police in order to supress the riots. Meanwhile, members of socialistic, communist or "ANTIFA" groups found amongst the rioters are particularly heavily repressed, and given 25 year sentences for Vandalisim.

In Naples and other southern Italian cities, a few rioters with connection to the Mafiosi families are utilized to show direct correlation between the two groups, which in turn is utilized to justify the use of the Mafia erradication laws against the rioters, which are violently repressed and jailed indefinitely as Mafia associates. In order to continue the current spupport for the government in the Area, massive raids against suspected mafia individuals, organizations, and areas, are accomplished, with 1,250 arrested, with 79 known but "judicially untochable" mafiosi being found dead in their homes. Businesses known to be harassed by the Mafia, or known to pay for protection to it are intervened and put under surveillance by the security police and Street Patrol groups, which demand the businesses cease their collaboration with Organized crime on threat of closure and expropriation. Mafia shock groups that attempt to react are hunted down viciously by the party "Street Patrols", which are often argumented by of duty security police officers, all with the support of the Organization itself, which only intervenes directly when conflicts escalate to armed conflict. Local politicians (regardless of party, but with focus on opposition members) known to collaborate with the Mafia are arrested, and the anti-mafia laws used to circumnavigate any faulting judicial proof of their involvement with the Mafia, with forced testimonies from mafia members (who are often threatened to have their families wiped out or imprissioned) being used to condemn them.

Fini however, uses the riots as an opportunity to eliminate the only truly threatening party in to his government; the 5 Star Movement. The Party split during the election, with a minority already joining Fini's Forza Nova coalition, but with a large percentage staying loyal to Bepe Grillio and his "No Coalition" policy. Grillio, despite still being in opposition to the goverment, and the Intervention in Libya, was well hated by the socialistic and particularly by the ANTIFA groups, given his opposition to immigration and the EU. This is used in a false flag operation, were AISE and Security Police agents acting as ANTIFA members lead a group of communists and ANTIFA street thugs into a 5 Star Movement rally headed by Grillo. In the ensuing confrontation, Grillo is shot by an "unknown Sniper" and dies of his injuries later that day. A few hours later, a prolific ANTIFA member named Rodolfo Rozzi is killed in a "shootout" with the Police near an ongoing riot, where he is found in possession of a Rifle, which ballistic reports later confirms to be the same that killed Bepe Grillo.

The 5 star Movement is left devastated by the loss of it's leader, who kept the party together largely through his cult of personality and personal charisma, and the party soon breaks up into smaller groups. The death of Grillo at the hands of Rozzi, a known communist and ANTIFA member, soon radicalizes a very large sector of the party members, particularly those more concerned with border security and Eurosepticisim, who quickly turn to Fini's government, while the more moderate wings of the party simply dissolve into smaller, irrelevant organizations or wither away. The last real threat to Fini's power had effectively been removed.

A few days later, Fini manages to introduce an electoral reform, which passes with massive support from the dispersed 5 star congressmen, as it includes clauses to finally eliminate the coalition monopolies on elections (OCC: The Current 5 Star Movement is based around this reform being accomplished). This reform, which effectively made coalitions no more inherently valuable than single parties, which the former Grillists passed on a puerly ideological bais, has the ironic effect of disempowering the scattered 5 star remnants, who are now no longer capable of forming a relevant voting block against Forza Italia if need be, as FI is the single largest party with 29% of the vote. This in turn, drives the leaders of the 5 star cliques into negotiations with Fini, who accepts to limit foreign intervention, and to leave internet freedoms untouched, in exchange for the merge of most of the minor 5 start members into Forza Italia. The Merger soon leaves the party with majority support in Northen Italy, which threatens to squash the power base and relevance of the Lega Norde. Matteo Salvinni, the LN president, who insists on keeping the party independent, soon finds himself ousted by more pragmatic sectors of the party, who wish to keep the party relevant (thereby safeguarding Northen Autonomy) by making it such an important part of Fini's movement, it's demands would have to be considered. As a result, 8 days after Salvinni is ousted the party is merged into Forza Italia, which renamed "Italia Unita!", and subsequently gains a 2/3 majority in the legislature after the party delegates are officially sworn in.

Meanwhile, the assasination of Grillo and other reported sniping attacks leads to the perfect pretext for quashing down the protest violently, now with the silent support of the 5 start movement remnants (whose opposition to the Libya invasion had made previous attempts at full on repression politically unwise). Within days, all protest are dispersed in the wake of massive operations by the anti riot units of the security police, and it's leaders arrested as political thugs.

To ensure the consent of the international community, and particularly of EU countries, a solution was quickly devised by the foreign ministry.

To: Angela Merkel, Chancellor Of The Federal Republic Of Germany, Francois Hollande, Prime Minister Of The French Republic
From: Prime Minister Of The Italian State, Gianfranco Fini

Esteemed Mrs. Merkel And Mr Hollande,

It should be clear, that in the event Italy is forced to withdraw from Libya, her national security would be so very threatened by ISIL bases in the region, that she would no longer be capable of realistically harboring the refugees currently residing in her. However, due to judicial problems that would delay their deportation, it would not be possible to expell them back to their countries ouright, which would leave us in the goverment no choice but allowing the displaced persons across the border into your respective nations. In order to avoid this influx of nearly 300,000 into what we understand is an already overflown system, we kindly ask you diplomatically support our pacification efforts in the region.
El sistema constitucional del siglo pasado está caduco. El ejército es la última
aristocracia, vale decir la última posibilidad de organización jerárquica que
nos resta entre la disolución demagógica.

Chapter 3: The War for the Soul of Brazil
Sao Paulo,Brazil

15th February 2017

It had been just over a month since Ernesto Ayon took over as leader of the PTB and much had changed in the world. Italy looked like it was on the brink of war both with a foreign nation and with itself, yet that was millions of miles away from the worries of most Brazilians at home who wanted to see their own lives improve. With this much the focus of President Temer was not so much international affairs but looking inwards to his own nation as he was under threat of near ousting by the people. But he has a chance to redeem himself, that chance being the election of a new senate of Sao Paulo after the last one was arrest for corruption charges. This election would be key for both the government parties but also for the PTB. If one of the coalition parties was to win the Sao Paulo seat it show that the country still support President Temer and his government however if Ernesto was to gain the seat it would boost his already growing popularity. All in all the fight for the Soul of Brazil had began, with Sao Paulo being the most populated state in the whole of Brazil who ever controlled it would have a gateway to becoming President of the Federal Republic of Brazil. With what is going on in the world it seems as though Brazil will need a strong leader with a strong grasp to power in the country.

GloboNews, Election Night Special

"Today the 15th of February 2017 the election for the new Senator of the state of Sao Paulo was held. We will have the result at 12 o'clock but first lets go to Túlio Macedo who is on the ground in the state of Sao Paulo with some of the voters" Enrico Souza Maciel the news anchor said as the TV station then cut to a live feed of a middle aged man who was wearing a thick coat as it was close to 11 P.M in the night and the cold air had set itself into the country.

"Yes Enrico, I am here in Sao Paulo more specifically the Central Zone of Sao Paulo or the old town of Sao Paulo. Just behind me you can see crowds of people waiting outside the town hall." Túlio stated as he turned round and pointed to a large group of people who must be waiting for the result to be announced by the government. "From what our news team has gathered this election has been about one thing and one thing only. Can the government hold this seat or will it be picked up by Ernesto and the Brazilian Labour Party. For the most part it has been a battle between the PTB and the PT the party in which the former President Dilma Rousseff was the leader of. However from what we can tell you now that the polls has closed is that it is looking extremely like that Ernesto Ayon's Brazilian Labour Party has picked up this seat as when we have talk to people most of them had said that they had voted for the PTB." a small group of young started to shout at the camera "Um novo Brasil, um novo futuro" the new motto of the Brazilian Labour Party. Túlio turns round to show them off and gives them a small cheeky smile as they leave. "As you could see there many people seem to have begun to back Ernesto. Which is now a worry of course to President Temer as he is still yet to solidify his power as President and leader of a very loose coalition of parties."

The feed now returns to Enrico who was just listening on onto information on his ear piece. "Sorry to interrupt the broadcast from Mr Macedo but I have just been given the result by the Sao Paulo state authorities and we can confirm right here and now that Conrado Álvarez Menezes of the Brazilian Labour Party has taken Sao Paulo seat with 56% of the vote share one of the largest vote shares we have seen a while in this country. So I will say again for those people who quite didn't understand the the new Senator for the state of Sao Paulo will be Conrado Álvarez Menezes of the Brazilian Labour Party. I am sure that we can say that those in the PTB camp will be very happy with the result tonight."

16th February

The mood of the country had began to change. Ernesto Ayon's party received a massive boost after last nights results and they were set to began their goal of reaching President however the election would not be until next year but will the whole of government up for election it could result in a huge victory for the PTB if they can somehow manage to keep up with the momentum they currently have. But perhaps even better news for a lot of people in Brazil is the news that President Temer had lost even more support from his government coalition, now it seemed as though he would certainly loose control of government if something major was to happen again. But for the PTB and Brazil it seemed as though change was on it way and maybe be even sooner then thought.
