The colors aren't chosen at random. The red and white cross is the symbol of the house of Savoy (the parent branch of our royal house), the red that is used is the official color of the house of savoy and so cannot be changed.
The green and purple are the colors of the former national flag.
[ooc] I'm a vexillologist, so I am aware just how horrific these look, but in the interest of RP and my nations history, I'm just ignoring it.

why not put a coat of arms of savoy on old flag then? balkan style
