World Baseball Classic 40 Sign-ups (CLOSED)

Postby Schiltzberg » Mon May 15, 2017 1:05 pm

As WBC Council President, it is my duty and honor to open signups for the 40th edition of our beloved baseball tournament. All are welcome, and please sign up and place your host bids below. All other discussion except for questions over host bids should go in the WBC Discussion Thread.

There has to be a deadline for host bids, so at the moment, that deadline will be 17:00 EST (UTC-5) on Monday, May 29. Host bids are recommended to, but do not necessarily have to resemble past bids. Here are some examples of previous winning bids.

WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 40- The Colossal Follow up
Official Hosting Bid- Cassadaigua

I. Introduction

Hey there! You weren’t expecting this were you? See, we like to come out of no where. We’ve made a habit of it.

So, I bet you were wondering how exactly we could follow up the Colossal Cup that Frenline Delpha hosted in the last edition. Several nations returned, and a champion was crowned.

But then what? Are you just going to go back to the way things were? You could, but wouldn’t it be nice to have some special follow up? Come to Cassadaigua for World Baseball Classic 40. All of you. Let’s do it!

II. Format

There will be three bases and a home plate, plus a pitching mound in the middle. We will use bats, and baseballs. We will play nine innings, with extra innings possible if a game is still tied after nine.

Fine, you want a more serious format description, I get it.

Any workable number will be used that will allow for even group sizes. If there are between 32-48 signups, then 16 teams will make the playoffs. A standard 8 groups of six alignment would see each group send its top two teams to Cassadaigua. A seven group of six alignment would see each group send its top two teams to Cassadaigua, with the two additional spots given to wild cards. In the event of more then 48 signups, I will CONSIDER 20-24 playoff teams, depending on group alignments.

The three game series format will be used as per the last World Baseball Classics and several Classics prior to that.

Playoffs? Playoffs?!? All series will be best of five, with the exception of the final which will be best of seven.

Tiebreakers?
Head To Head Record
Head To Head Run Differential
Overall Run Differential
The old school Overall Run Differential/9
Tiebreaker Game

III. Scorination

xkoranate is pretty cool. We’ll do that 0.3.3 version of it. Saintland’s NSFS formula will be used, since Feministvs Sanctvsterra has given us their approval to use to that version.

RP bonus will be generously provided. That is what we are here for. It’s cumulative until the playoffs, but I will cut it in half prior to the playoffs. Roster bonuses will also be provided, naturally. I appreciate the varying RP styles and themes that occur on NS Sports, all styles are welcomed. Quality is preferred over quantity.

IV. Experience

They say I have done this a couple times before. And they’re right! World Baseball Classics 18 and 26 were also hosted by us, and then some other neat things as well, including being entrusted to co-host not one, but two World Cups, and four overall World Cup Committee sanctioned tournaments. I’ve also done a World Bowl, and a fair amount of NSCAA basketball. Other smaller things as well.

Most importantly, you can trust me. I will have a lot of time in June. The timing is perfect for me to host!

Feel free to ask me questions about my bid.

V. Conclusion

So, all you fine World Baseball Classic Council nations, how about it? I’ll even bake cookies for all of you. Wouldn’t it be fun to follow up the last Classic in Cassadaigua?

Let’s do it!
NS Sports’ only World Cup, World Bowl, World Cup of Hockey, World Baseball Classic and International Basketball Championships winner!

The three game series format will be used as per the last World Baseball Classics and several Classics prior to that.

For clarification, in each series, will each team play three games against three separate teams, as was the case in WBCs 37-39, or will you be returning to the more traditional style series, where each team plays one other team in its group three times in a row, as was the case in WBCs 34-36? Not to sway you or anything, but the latter is my preferred style, but it doesn't really matter to be honest.
Tiebreakers?
Head To Head Record
Head To Head Run Differential
Overall Run Differential
The old school Overall Run Differential/9
Tiebreaker Game

Pardon the seemingly silly question, but could you please clarify the difference between "overall run differential" and "overall run differential/9?" I don't understand how they would show different results, but maybe there is something I do not understand about the statistics. Thank you.
RP bonus will be generously provided.

How generous are we talking with a RP bonus? I am not very familiar with how the scorination works to be honest, but I think that there is a way to change the weight on role play bonuses, compared to the rank bonus and the roster bonus. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Question 1:
"For clarification, in each series, will each team play three games against three separate teams, as was the case in WBCs 37-39, or will you be returning to the more traditional style series, where each team plays one other team in its group three times in a row, as was the case in WBCs 34-36? Not to sway you or anything, but the latter is my preferred style, but it doesn't really matter to be honest."

It will be done the way it has been done in the last three classics because it is much easier usage of xkoranate, overall.

Question 2:
"Pardon the seemingly silly question, but could you please clarify the difference between "overall run differential" and "overall run differential/9?" I don't understand how they would show different results, but maybe there is something I do not understand about the statistics. Thank you."

Sure! Let's say Cassadaigua and Schiltzberg are locked in a tie all the way down to overall run differential. They also each have an overall run differential of +50. Now, for further example, Cassadaigua had 4 extra inning games, and Schiltzberg had 5. In Cassadaigua's extra inning games (innings played passed the ninth), they had a run differential of +10. Schiltzberg had a run differential of +7. Because these happened in extra innings, they are deducted from that overall +50, to determine who was better in regular, 9 inning games. In this example, Cassadaigua would be now be at +40 (50-10), and Schiltzberg at +43 (50-43). Therefore, Schiltzberg gets the tiebreaker. Essentially, we eliminate all runs for and runs against the the teams scored/allowed beyond the ninth inning of a game.

Question 3:
How generous are we talking with a RP bonus? I am not very familiar with how the scorination works to be honest, but I think that there is a way to change the weight on role play bonuses, compared to the rank bonus and the roster bonus. Correct me if I'm wrong.

An unranked daily well-roleplaying nation should get to equivalent footing of a top-ranked nation who does not do a single thing within 8-10 scorination days.

Okay, fair enough. Thank you for clarifying.

Ohhhh, okay. that thing. Right. I think I've heard of that before. I thought that that was usually calculated by total runs divided by total innings times nine, though, like ERA, except for all total runs. For example, Schiltzberg plays Cassadaigua in a long 18 inning game, and Cassadaigua wins 3-1. According to the way that you described it, both teams would be equal in this situation, both having 1 run per nine innings, but my way, Schiltzberg would have a 1/2 runs per nine innings, and Cassadaigua a 3/2 runs per nine innings. I don't know if you would want to calculate it this way instead, but it is just a suggestion.
Question 3:

Okay, that makes sense. That makes it fair for the new players and encourages role playing, which is good. I have no further questions about the bid, except for what I said in response to question two, but that probably won't come into play anyway, so I support the bid.

Hmmm, this shows promise .... would there be some sort of field beyond the bases? An outer field, perhaps?

There will be three bases and a home plate, plus a pitching mound in the middle. We will use bats, and baseballs. We will play nine innings, with extra innings possible if a game is still tied after nine.
