Drafted into the military. What field do you choose?

Congratulations, you've been drafted into your countries military to wage war against an inhumane state. Think North Korea in today's world but this war will be long so you can't escape it. No ifs or buts, you can't escape the draft. The fields given to you are all combat roles meaning you'll be seeing action in varying distances - no pacifism/super safe jobs here. You have to fight in some form or another. But luckily you can choose what field of the army you would like to join (you still have to pass their respective tests), so what would it be?

Also would you like to become an officer or not?

I think I would like to helicopter pilot, preferably a transport helicopter for troops and not an attack helicopter. It's probably better than being a standard infantry grunt. Artillery sounds safe however you'd probably ruin your hearing.

Also feel free to post your own "dream field" since I know I've missed other fields like special forces.

First of branch, I would choose the Army. Then I would like to go into the fields of Air Assault, EOD, or Military Police.

Army. The novakian navy has a tendency to get into really fucking bloody fleet battles, while our army tends to beat everything it comes across.

I would object to being drafted, do as little work as possible, and get dishonourably discharged or executed as soon as possible (I am pretty sure the UK doesn't execute recalcitrant soldiers any more, but I guess it depends on how badly the war is going).

And then - quite honestly - if they won't let me go - I would find the nearest cliff, mine-field, nuclear reactor, grenade storage shed etc and ....... well, you can fill in the rest.

I mean, I'd like to think of myself as a fairly good shot, but I've only fired the kind of rifle that uses compressed air and a small bullet with a flat surface on it, so that goes out the window.

I dunno, I guess anything not on the front lines. Like a RADAR operator, or a supply truck driver. I really kinda don't want to end up dead during the war.

Well seeing as the Royal New Zealand Defence Forces lack combat aircraft or tanks, I'll have to settle for artillery. Then the army figures out I can shoot straight and gives me a DMR. Fantastic.

That shouldn't be at all surprising. Even in actual warfare situations, most soldiers spend most of their time trying not to kill each other.

If I was physically capable, I'd want to be in special ops, all about stealth and going into enemy territory. If not, I'd settle for regular infantry. If I'm in the thick of the action and keep surviving, I'd have quite the story to tell.

I would fail the fitness test before I even have to think about which field to choose. But I would consider filling a vacant political role.

I suppose infantry. Cyber warfare wouldn't do much good against North Korea and my previous position was technically infantry so I would definitely want to go back to working as a chemical weapons specialist

Since I would go on a campaign of sabotage if drafted, I'm torn between going with sailor so I could try to sink a very large ship and going with fighter pilot because the fighter jets cost so much. All things considered, it's probably for the best that I never registered with the S.S.

Hell if I know, but the OP said we're all getting drafted and somehow can't dodge, so I guess we're all getting drafted.
