Ending nation after 13 years

Well I think that time may have come.

I remember getting asked by a friend to join Nationstates back in 2004(?). It looked like a bit of fun and it was. I have maintained my nation & the region I created for some 13 years.

My nation is currently at 29.419 Billion but my last remaining friend in the region has departed so this means it's probably time to hang up my hat & move on.

Times were significantly different back in 2004. Some things were better, some worse. It's been good.

So, the question is, should I end it all now?

It wasn't 2004. You were founded in Antiquity, so you were created before the 27th of November 2003. But otherwise, please don't leave us, unless you absolutely must.

Its saddenning to hear (read) that you're contemplating ending your nation. Nations that old are an achievement of a sort and a badge of honour in itself.
Rethink about it or try something you haven't done before, maybe join another region with friendly members. Many nations will happily accept you as a seasoned nation.
Else, think about handing your nation to someone else, who can take good care of it.

Hey don't go. As others have said, it's an achievement in and of itself to have lasted since antiquity.
I'm sure there are plenty of regions that would happily accept you.

You're actually looking at something closer to 14 years I suspect as founding dates become firmer around February/March of 2003, but there's no way to be sure with nations as old as ours. I've resided in three different regions with this nation and made and lost many acquaintances along the way. In 2009 I committed to stop randomly CTEing and develop my nation more. In 2014 I began exploring international relations and other game mechanics. There's always something more to do and someone new to meet. For me that's enough. If you feel you've lived long enough and need to end this life, I say you've earned the right, but have another look at what pleasures yet may exist for you too. Congratulations on your achievements so far.

If you want to, then yes, you can end the nation. I await the day I see my nation get that large, and in the meantime I love to roleplay. I've found a ton of true happiness here to express myself and to be a huge history nerd without boring people to death. If you're not happy anymore, then you deserve to find something that does. I don't know you, especially since you were clearly born before me, but don't feel pressured to stay if you don't want to. What ever you decide to do, I want you to be happy in the end. This reminds me of another region, EWU.
Basically for the last six years the lone resident has kept it alive (and continued logging in) solely as a memorial to their friends and the good times spent here with them.

There's something deeply depressing to me about your post. The thought (admittedly based on little research on my part besides looking at your region briefly) that you once were part of a thriving region and and gradually your friends went away, makes me think of all the little endings we constantly experience in life, of aging IRL, of the heat death of the universe. All things have endings and perhaps this is the ending for you nation, but goddamn it, a part of me hopes it's not. i want you to fight, to find new communities to be a part of. I want your experience in the game to have a rebirth, just so this isn't another thing that has to come to an end.

I don't think that is true, nothing in the rules I've seen about exchanging nations, just not selling them for financial gain. I know it does mess with records for moderation though.
