After learning of the fact that faster-than-light travel is, in fact, possible within our technological level, the Evil DIctators Happyland Space Agency (EDHSA) has rushed to learn how the technology works, using theoretical interactions between objects in space as well as reaching alternate dimensions in order to figure out how to make FTL drives.
Currently, we are experimenting with using advanced solar sails combined with high-tech wide beam energy-efficient fusion lasers to accelerate a vessel dramatically under current laws of physics.
(The way it works is that we take a ship with a high-output fusion reactor, use that to power an advanced military anti-nuke laser with the focusing lenses removed so that it's like a super-powerful floodlight that won't damage the sail, then pointing it at said solar sail. In addition, the sail makes use of solar panel technology so as to maximize energy efficiency.)

After 1.7 months of travel (time of flight = parsecs in months), cosmonaut, Hinrhi Shincliif, and several others, planted his boots on the planet Alpha Centauri 1 and made history. The planet is rocky, harbouring simple, bacterial life and some amounts of land plants. Most notably, the planet has a large, gray ocean of mostly water with pockets of mercury. The colonists notice that they gained some weight, as the planet has 1.5 times the gravity of Earth; should a child be born here, they would be much stronger and shorter than Earthling humans.
The colony here has been named SC.1(space colony 1)

The Fins Interstellar Space Organisation (FISO) offers to share the secret to FTL warp drive with EDHSA in exchange for open trade and commerce between the two mother countries.

Techoligian Scientists begin planning out their first foray into interstellar travel, a Wormhole-Field-Stabilizer, a device that can pinpoint a wormhole and "Link" Into its path, allowing ships through, the public call it Das Wurmlochfeld, The Wormhole field.

The downside of this tech is that the ships cannot return, so the fleet must bring a Cogsport-Class Space Construction Vehicle, or SCV Ship informally, to build a Wormhole link back home

Scientists have uncovered a massive breakthrough in the understanding of space and time.
By using a modified kinetic energy inhibitor and tapping into dimensional physics, it is possible to reduce travel in the fourth dimension (otherwise known as "time"), thus, greatly speeding up travel.

Current tests were able to get 23 steel molecules (chosen for their durability and conductivity) to travel from one aircraft carrier 23 miles to another carrier in 5 milliseconds, giving a speed of 4,300 miles per hour, when under normal circumstances, the molecules would only travel at 500 miles per hour and wouldn't even make it to the carrier. It is theorized that if such a device were attached to the particles (the "spaceship") in question, speed would be greatly increased.
(The atoms were accelerated through laser ablation, a form of engine that is dangerous to the atoms in question and doesn't accelerate things particularly fast, but is energy efficient and can be fired from outside the ship.)

Plans have been made to super-size the time field generator to the size required to mount on a spaceship.
It is theorized that if the technology were advanced enough, it could allow the vessel to stand still in time - effectively granting infinite velocity.

FISO is targeting Gliese 832, said to contain a planet that may be habitable. The Boken-Kaliija 1 mk. 2 takes off, ETA is 4 months (2 days). The vessel is guided by another military vessel, should another civilisation not take kindly to our pith helmets.

We have mothballed the project for the solar sail vessel and we are retrofitting military space battleships with FTL drives. As this involves expanding the reactor and installing a large drive system, crew capacity was sacrificed, and fire control was placed in the hands of military AIs.
On the plus side, due to the way the field works, we will only have to have one ship with the drive, the others will need no retrofitting.
In addition, advances in technology have allowed the first battleship retrofitted -the White Star- to improve its top acceleration from 250 m/s/s to 20,000 m/s/s, allowing it to reach its destination of Gliese 876 d within 90 days.

More signs of semi-primitive life have been picked up, such as telescope observations showing strange, yellow lights on the nighttime side of the planet. As the Boken approaches its destination, faster than previously anticipated, some forsee a massacre of this life may occur upon arrival. "Regressive hippies," as Dihn prefers to call them, are protesting the colonisation of space in both Fins and Techo. Happylandians know that, if they protest, they'll be found dead the next week.
King Dihn proposes an agreement to keep colonial disputes outside of Earth's sphere of influence, to prevent damage to the relative peace on earth.

Another vessel, the Valontsa 3, has its sights on the much more distant Kepler 186b, a planet said to be teeming with advanced life. ETA is 200 days at most. What's more likely is somewhere around 5 months (2.75 days)

The vessel has arrived at Gliese 876 D and has begun preparations for communication.
Preliminary reports indicate that the civilizations on the world have technology, roughly analogous to to Earth, circa the 1960s, due to radio broadcasts. The inhabitants appear to be largely peaceful, and it is hopeful that diplomatic relations could be established, perhaps trading technology in exchange for land in which to set up a colony.
The atmosphere is similar to that of Earth, though large concentrations of carbon monoxide are in the atmosphere, requiring the use of a respirator. It is likely that the colony will be largely underground as a result.
The star the planet orbits is Class M, roughly one third the size of the Sun by diameter and, according to the square-cube law, roughly one ninth the size by volume. The planet is colder than Earth by approximately 8.5 degrees Celsius as a result. Fortunately, we developed heating technology a few decades back, though those venturing outside in the winter would probably want a heavy jacket.

Judging from their television broadcasts, the sentient population of the planet is a type of furred mammal with eight limbs - two arms and two legs - and a tail. Their color ranges from black to white to green, with shades of brown in between, green coloration appears to have cultural dominance.
Again, judging from their TV, they cannot see the color red, but they can perceive shades of ultraviolet.
They do not appear to have developed space flight yet, with no observed manufactured satellites in orbit.

The Boken-Kalija has arrived at Gliese 832 c. As it has turned out to be, the planet is inhabited by canine-like/snake-like beings. Their civilisation consists of somewhat modern-tech tribal communities scattered across the planets orange/grey rocks. Some amount of sentience has been shown amongst these beings and, while many tests have been run to examine the DNA structure (of which, they apparently have none), many question the morality of running experiments on sentient... things. A small colony has been established, but the atmosphere contains a lot of Iron. Colonists must wear oxygen-filters whenever not within colony limits. The two colonies now owned by Finswedeway are making the country very wealthy. With 16,000,000,000,000 auctives coming in annually from oil and other resources mined in the planets at the behest of environmentalists everywhere.

Meanwhile, the Valontsa 3 is on its way to Kepler 186b; strong radio waves have been picked up, and one signal containing a strange alien language speaking... calmly? It's hard to tell. Fins scientists are working on a universal-instant-translator (UIT), gathering data from languages of all types from Earth and bits and pieces of languages picked up from weak radio waves heard by sattelites orbiting Neptune. This machine will be provided to all soace faring nations as a sign of friendship and interest in advancing science as much as possible.

Meanwhile AGAIN, ten FISO high class military vessels have been sent to Techo to aid the battle against the ancient alien civilisation. These vessels are equipped with the latest technology in deep-space weaponry, and can do massive damage from 50 parsecs away (that's a lot, FYI).

We have used our radio systems to make contact with the native species.
At first, communication was difficult, due to the language barrier, though after a while, we managed to get communication through the use of pantomiming.
The civilization we have contacted is called Talachertonitt, with a nation type roughly meaning "Commonwealth".
After asking about their technological level, we have made a few discoveries about them. They have not yet discovered the atomic bomb, and their military and aerospace technologies are at roughly Earth 1935, but their telecommunications technology is much more advanced, with a crude Internet being set up, though it is only used by the military as a means of coordination. In addition, they have discovered rocketry and plan to use it to place artificial satellites in space, though they have not yet attempted placing ordnance on it to create a missile.
The organization we contacted explained how they were set up to monitor alien life, and they saw us show up a few hours ago, but they didn't contact us and kept our existence under wraps. They said that they would welcome a landing craft, we sent down a lander (the big ships couldn't land on the planet, even though the gravity is roughly equivalent to 0.36g, or twice that of the Moon, our starships weren't designed for landing on a planet's surface). The shuttle is expected to land soon, under the guise of a rocket test.

The NFIEU is developing technology to reach the moon (Send a man onto the moon). Currently, we are trying to find private contractors who could build the engine, and propulsion systems. While the NFIEU is planning on ordering foreign fuel, since President McArthur is reluctant to use the oil reserves in Northern NF. The Defense Department hasn't released a statement on the budget, as of yet.

Companies like SpaceY, and MoonExlorer are gaining media attention, and getting investors, as till now, the investors stayed away from Space companies. But seeing the government's interest in space, many are willing to take risks.
