In 2030, Humanity had it's Golden Age of superheroes. Powerful, colorfully dressed men and women protected the world and led it to the future. Their powers allowed them to push humanity to the stars, and humans quickly rose to become a force to be reckoned with. They had power, technology, and had terraformed and colonized their solar system. The largest and most advanced civilization in the Milky Way: The Collective, a peaceful race of machines, had even helped the Humans set up everything they would need to survive in the endless void of space. Space travel and ships were no more expensive than a common car. Life couldn't really get much better. But like all good things, it had to come to an end.
2060: The Hyperium. A race from beyond the Milky way had decided to invade. A powerful and ruthless force they were, cutting through armies and people just for being in the way. The Humans and the Collective fought back against their aggressors tooth and nail. The war slogged on for half a decade with both sides winning grand victories and suffering crushing defeat. The war was won...Barely. The once proud and giant Collective had fallen to a fraction of it's original size, a countless number of planets were either destroyed or rendered uninhabitable from the devastation. The Collective insisted that it would do everything in it's power to rebuild the Milky Way, bringing it back to it's former glory, alongside humanity's superheroes. On paper it was a great idea.
In practice... It didn't take long for the Collective to realize just had badly they were crippled by the war. Barely having the manpower to keep themselves afloat, let alone rebuild the infrastructure of an entire galaxy. The superhumans didn't fair much better. Before they were viewed as virtually immortal, unstoppable forces of nature that protected people out of the kindness of their hearts. Then people started seeing their heroes for what they truly were: People. Super or otherwise, a human was a still a human, with needs, wants and flaws. They made mistakes and difficult choices just like everyone else. Unfortunately, people wanted their heroes to be perfect and save them from the mess from the war. Not the flawed people trying to make the best of a bad situation. A few years was all it took before people turned on the heroes, either killing them or driving them away.
2083: The Collective's already thin resources were quickly starting to deplete, weakening their already loose hold on the little order in the galaxy had left. Constantly under attack from both pirates, rogue superhumans, or factions that had abandoned them and decided that it was better for them to just try to survive without having to listen to the Collective's orders. Most of the heroes were dead, running pirate gangs, or too afraid to face the people they had failed. To make matters even worse, massive, strange new creatures had made their appearance feasting on planets and stars. Regardless of whether or not they were needed by the people on those worlds. Rumors floating around that some people were insane enough to actually start worshiping these creatures.
And that's you. Hopefully. The galaxy is in ruins, under siege by pirates, 4th dimensional entities and vengeful superhumans. Most civilizations have collapsed or are on the verge of it. Everyone is tired and scared. They need hope. They need heroes. And that's where you come in. Be you an idealistic young hero just trying to keep the hope going for just a bit longer, or an old Hyperium War veteran sick and tired of watching your home die a slow and painful death. Or a group of people who are just trying to help. The galaxy needs everything it can get.
You can be a faction or character. There will be a power scale, but be warned, the Galaxy is a dangerous place. The story will be a bit more linear than most of my previous rps, but feel free to branch off. The Story will be in "Acts." With each act having a primary antagonist or group of antagonists who will need to be killed along with some secondary plots to keep everyone vested.
Such Dangers include:
The Worms: Planet sized, 4th dimensional creatures that feed on celestial bodies like planets, stars, and large asteroids. Unbelievably powerful, but mostly docile unless provoked. About as intelligent as a common house pet, these creatures are relatively new to the galaxy and have amassed a decent following, with unconfirmed rumors of giving powers to those who lead them to new planets to eat.
The 9: A notorious group of serial killers who often besiege entire cities in an attempt to get a hero to try to stop them by committing grisly mass murder. Their members change frequently, but are led by a shockingly handsome and well spoken man, who is probably the worst of them.
Pirates: Like most civilizations on a grand scale, pirates exist all over the place. Often have some resources and members that are valuable if taken or killed. Or they might just be druggies armed with laser weapons and a few space ships. In either case, the galaxy would almost certainly be better off without them. Almost always led by supers of varying powers.
Other Concepts: Things that are part of the world/galaxy.
Supers: Men and women from around the galaxy with reality breaking abilities. Were once the proud protectors of life, most have since abandoned the idea of superheroism in favor of themselves or their family. Can be human or almost any other custom race from the Galaxy. Most superhuman abilities come from the "super gene." An interesting piece of genetic code that ignores most if not all known laws of biology. Not only does it provide random powers that allow one to supercede the laws of physics in one or more ways, it also doesn't dilute with successive generations. The power source of the abilities remains unknown, but shows signs of being deliberately designed, rather than a random mutation by evolution. Tampering with it has seen varying degrees of success. Most supers get their powers through an event that pushed them into immense physical and mental stress, called a trigger, though some were lucky enough to have their powers activate randomly.
The Collective: A very advanced benevolent race composed of people who had their minds uploaded into machine bodies. Once the largest and most powerful nation in the Milky Way, now are barely able to keep themselves afloat due to crippling losses during the Hyperium War and also to resource, population fragmentation, and many other issues. Generally peaceful and benevolent, however several splinter factions have broken off from the Collective with varying degrees of hostility.
Haven: One of the very few planets were things are noticeably better than the rest of the galaxy. Most people make it their goal to get to this planet to give either themselves or their families a chance at a normal life. Relatively speaking of course. Haven itself is far from perfect, with gangs and rampant corruption along with rumors that The 9 are planning on making a visit.
Alright! That almost does it. Just one more thing! The power scale. We won't be using a traditional one. But rather one that rates you based on what powers(If any) that your character(s) may have. There can, and often will be overlap! You're not restricted to just one class! The scale goes from 1 to 10 (Eg: Tank 5, Mover 4). 1 being the weakest and 10 being the strongest. You will be given the rating by me or a co-op when your app is accepted!
Power Chart
Tank: The power class referring to those with enhanced strength and durability. Sometimes comes with a healing factor, flight or even energy projection.
Mover: Powers that enhance movement. Usually via Teleportation, super speed, enhanced agility. Often accompanies other powers. Flight is the most common one.
Psion: Powers that grant mind abilities. Like Telekinesis or Telepathy.
Elemental: Powers with control of one or more element. Pyrokinesis, or hydrokinesis.
Thinker: Powers that provide more information about the area or opponent. Enhanced senses, Numerical precision, Enhanced intuition.
Builder: Builds hyper advanced technology with buckets of scrap. Technopathy.
Blaster: Powers that allow for projectile attacks or some form of energy projection and manipulation. Energy manipulation.
