The Role Play

Role players will take the mantle of a high ranking position within the Galactic Imperium. Whether it be a politician, head of a Great House, or military officer to name a few. Vying to gain power within the Imperium or secede from it to achieve your own ends. It is recommended to work with other role players to achieve your own ends.

Setting

It is the 26th Millennium, and the Galactic Imperium stretches across the Milky Way Galaxy, an Empire of fifteen million planets, stations, outposts, and asteroid colonies. For twenty thousand years it has endured. Against numerous foes of all sorts. Giving rise to an unprecedented Golden Age for Humanity. The Pax Imperialis has lasted for thousands of years, yet the façade is cracking, being chipped away slowly. The Imperium is decaying, failing, as economic and social stagnation take hold. This is not readily perceptible to the average Imperial citizen. But it is happening.

The Imperium is centered on the world of Nova Terra, a city planet, and capital of the Empire. Home to 800 Billion people the planet is almost entirely covered in thousands of meters of cityscape. Stretching from dangerous Under City to the glittering spires of the top levels. The Imperial District is the only region that still retains natural fauna and native wildlife. Covering much of the Central continent and within it's confines sits the Imperial Palace.

The Imperial Dynasty, The Imperial House of Valkyran, also resides on the Imperial World of Odin. Odin is a paradise world of beauty and untarnished environment. Opposite of the built up and completely urbanized world of Nova Terra.

The Imperium

The Imperium is the Galactic political entity that stretches the breadth and width of the Milky Way Galaxy. The light of civilization and the only sovereignty in known space. Semi-autonomous states of a bewildering array do exist but are more or less vassal/protectorate appendages of the Empire. The Imperium internally is divided up into Sectors and Oversectors held by Governors and High Governors; Protectorates and Semi-Autonomous States; and the territorial possessions of the Empire's Great Houses. Therefore planets are often classified not only by terrain but their political position within the Imperium. The Imperium, excluding SAS and Protectorates, is organized under the Imperial Government into Oversectors which are 600 by 600 cubes of space. Those are sub-divided into Sectors of varying sizes depending on stellar density but do not exceed 300 by 300 light years. High Governors have Viceroyal powers in that they have prime administrative authority over the Sector Governors.

Imperial Worlds: Planets that are under the direct rule of the Imperial House or Government.

Protectorate: Worlds that are essentially self-governing in all aspects but external affairs.

Semi-Autonomous State (SAS World): A world that is self-governing and has its own limited military force. Usually because it covers more than one star system. Officially allowed to have a Representative/Senator in the Imperial Senate.

Colony: A world that is not officially an Imperial World and dependent on external support until it became self-sufficient enough to gain higher status. These are often harsh worlds with limited populations operating for a specific purpose like miners or pioneers. Typically chartered and have minimal Imperial oversight if at all.

Spacer Domains: Stations, colonized asteroids, and void based communes are classified as Spacer Domains and have to send tithes to the Empire to allow them to be bestowed with charters allowing them free travel anywhere within Imperial territory.

Image
Planetary Class:
Gaia/Alpha Class: Rare natural gems of worlds, paradise worlds.
Continental/Beta Class: Terrestrial planets
Terraformed/Epsilon Class: Worlds that have been terraformed through artificial means
Arid/Gamma Class: Planets that are terrestrial but arid climate
Barren/Delta Class: Most planets with an atmosphere are just barren rock
Alpine/Cheti Class: Mountainous worlds, often mineral rich
Artic/Omega Class: Freezing worlds of snow and ice
Dead/Zeta: Lifeless worlds that are either atmosphere less
Death/Theta Class: Worlds where the very environment is hostile to non-natives
Tomb/Iota Class: Technically a sub-class of a world that once had life or an atmosphere and now doesn't.
Volcanic/Yota Class: Hellish worlds of fire and unstable tectonic activity

The Imperial Senate & Government

The Emperor is the prime executive authority within the Empire, and used to be a completely Absolute Monarchy, however four thousand years prior the Imperial Senate was formed out of increasing social and political pressure. Comprised of the Upper House or House of Magnates that is composed of the Great Houses (higher nobility) and SAS Representatives; The Lower House made up of the Imperial Governorates. The Imperial Senate effectively runs the day to day business of the Empire and is the prime legislative body.

The Emperorship

Occupying the Celestial Throne is the Emperor. The Imperial House of Valkyran has held the throne for most of the Empire's history. It is the prime executive authority in the Empire and the Commander-In-Chief of the Imperial Military; though day to day top level decision making his done by the Joint Chiefs.

The Imperial Military
The Imperial Military is answerable to the Emperor as Commander-in-Chief, The Joint Chiefs who have operational authority and top level administrative powers, and the Imperial Senate where civilian and economic matters are concerned. The Imperial Military is divided into the Imperial Navy, Army, Guard, Praetorian, Logisticae & CyberTroops (Military research, development, exploration, logistics), and Imperial Intelligence (sub-divided into Navy, Army, Security for Imperial property and offices, and black ops). The Joint Chiefs are appointed by the Emperor, and are made up of officers from all the Imperial military branches.

The Imperial Navy is responsible for all void and aerospace warfare. The Army is the planetary fighting force of the Empire and garrisons worlds across the Milky Way Galaxy. The Guard also named Imperial Stormtroopers is an elite shock troop Corps typically deployed for specific operations. The Praetorians are the personal force to protect the Imperial Household, Palace, and person of the Emperor. The Logisticae fills in the auxiliary rolls of the Imperial military while Imperial Intelligence is the primary information collection agency.
Ranks and Further Information
The Imperial Navy, Imperial Starfleet, Imperial Warfleet, and informally by dozens of other names across various dialects and planets. The Navy is the void arm of Imperial Will and monopolizes Imperial void warfare in all aspects. At first it was simply the vastly enlarged and rapidly expanding Nova Terran Navy, itself borne from the Nova Terran Space Defense Force, and was not formally referred to as the Imperial Navy until twenty years into the reign of Emperor Augustian I (circa 5800AD). The Imperial Navy has grown, been reformed, and evolved over the course of the Imperium's history. During the reign of Emperor Augustian I, it numbered several hundred thousand vessels of various classes and bewildering array of origins, having absorbed many of the leftover ships of defeated polities. As the early Navy was beset by a vaunted logistical nightmare on how to deal with patrolling a vast dominion. Augustian however laid the grown work of the Navy's organizational structure by tasking over half of it to specific Sectors and Oversectors, and the other half into strategic or reserve fleets.

Augustian's grandson, Karellian, was the first Emperor to deploy the fleet with the intent to ravage an entire planet from orbit. Sacking and devastating Procyon Primaris, the capital of the defunct Star Kingdom of Orion, in what would be the Imperial Navy's first major engagement against an internal opponent. Emperor Karelus I formally ratified the Militari Centralum in Perpetuito which abolished the rights of nobles, Protectorates, SAS's, and colonial militia forces from having their own first rate combat fleets. While also centralizing the command structure of the Navy with the formal founding of the Admiralty on Nova Terra. As before the rank of Admiral was a purely war time rank and replaced the now ancient rank of Commodore. During this time the Navy was constantly battling piracy and smugglers as the Imperium carried out great waves of colonization into the Periphery.

The Navy under Emperor Siegan I, became the primary space enforcers of the Lex Imperialis when it was introduced during his reign, and in t he following civil wars dealing with the Imperial successions of Kysteria and Amadira a centralized academy system was formed across the Galaxy. The Navy escorted colonizing vessels into the Magellanic Clouds and were at the forefront with the war against the OSB. During which time the Rank of Grand Admiral was introduced and the Navy had to recover from massive losses despite ultimate victory being achieved. Losing tens of billions of spacers, pilots, and officers in the titanic struggle.

The Imperial Navy is organized from the top down into strategic, sector, and reserve units. The strategic formations of the Navy are not assigned to a specific region of space but usually given an Imperial Warrant to pursue specific goals, patrol specific regions, or conduct certain operations. These formations are known as Armadas (numbered) and broken down into several numbered Fleets. The Sector fleets are the fleets assigned to Oversectors and their sector sub-units. Often these formations adopt the name of the sector they are assigned too, many wearing them with pride as esprit d'corps or putting them on the campaign banners of their ships to show how many areas, battles, or actions they've participated in. The Reserve Fleets are numbered but always with the letter 'R' given before their numeric designation. Below the Fleet level are flotillas and squadrons. Squadrons typically number a dozen ships in total while flotillas are usually taskforces assigned for specific operations.

Marines
The Imperial Marine Corps, Gunheads (by their Navy counterparts), or Void Troopers are subordinate to the Navy and assigned to protect Navy ships, stations, installations, and property. Trained in Marine Corps Academies, first founded under Emperor Archedammus I, as before the Navy provided their own security and did not have a distinct organization specializing in it. Marines are often in competition with their Army counterparts when operating in the same theater since on occasion their actions may overlap. On more than one occasion full on brawls between battalions have occurred in the mess halls over trivial matters of whose unit has racked up more kills over their formation's history.

The Imperial Army, Jarheads, Mudsloggers, and a myriad other flattering or insulting names. The Imperial Army's history places it as the oldest branch in the Imperium under the technicality that Emperor Augustian formally referred to the Imperial Army in the first year of his reign. The Imperial Army originally being the amalgamation and generic term for the extremely wide array of forces that came under the Imperium's banner. Originally having authority over their Navy counterparts till the Act of Separation formally dissolved any inter-rank authority save under specific monarch decree.

The Imperial Army has fought across thousands of star systems since the Imperium's founding, and went head to head with the OSB in over thirty-million recorded engagements across the Galaxy. The Army garrisons worlds and locations across the Imperium. Operating over one hundred Academies and specializing in dozens of terrestrial and EVA environments. It is the most diverse branch in the Imperial military, a common joke being, "The Army has a soldier for that," as a reference to the high degree of specialized formations existing within its organization.

The Army is organized into fireteams, squads, platoons, companies, battalions, Regiments/Brigades, Divisions, Corps, Armies, System Armies, Sector Armies, and Theatre Armies. The lowest unit ranging down to a pair of troopers at minimum to the top level possessing up to a few billion soldiers.

The Imperial Guard, Imperial Stormtroopers, and other names refers to the elite corps of troops fanatically loyal to the Emperor, Celestial Throne, and Imperium. Routinely recruiting orphans into their ranks, the Guard is often fanatical in their devotion, which can put them at odds with other organizations. A Guardsman's life is a Spartan one, enduring a tough and rigorous recruitment and training regimen, followed by often being posted to the most hazardous warzones in the Galaxy. The end result is a cold, efficient, devoted warrior who will take orders without question and carry on fighting even if suffering crippling casualties. As such Guardsmen are often only sent in to deal with civilians when in extreme situations do to the fact they have a record for dispensing harsh, often casualty strewn, policies for those breaking Imperial Law. Guardsmen at the tactical level resemble their Army counterparts, organized into fire teams, squads, platoons, and companies. But as you move into the strategic realm they differ. Guard battalions are often purely combat formations, support battalions instead replaced by support brigades on Guard ORBAT's, Guard Regiments and Divisions are often permanent formations with long campaign histories. Usually given honorifics by reigning monarchs for their actions. The top level organization is the Legion ranging from 50k to one million Guardsmen.

The Guard originated during the reign of Emperor Valorian, replacing the older Imperial Palace, Household, and Royal troops (dating back to the Nova Terran Imperium or pre-Galactic Imperium nation).

The Praetorians, Praetorian Guard, Imperial Bodyguards, Palace Guards, Watchers, Golden Ones; the Praetorians go by many names. The official bodyguards and protectors of the Imperial family, Palace District on Nova Terra, and any major property like the Imperial complexes on Odin. They are as old as the Galactic Imperium itself and perhaps even predate it. Emperor Augustian makes mention of the 300 'Companion Praetorians' as the likely original core of warriors. Certainly by the reign of Emperor Valorian they took their canonical appearance and size at 10,000 Praetorians plus support, auxiliary, and automaton assets. The Praetorians are an intensively secret organization often seen as wielding arcane technology and even their exact recruitment methods are unknown to all outside of their number. Staunchly loyal to the Imperial family, Celestial throne, and reigning Emperor who directly pays and oversees their finance. Praetorian suits are themselves artifacts, the golden armor that is iconic of them being ancient Solarian suits of armor, and possibly even predate the Nova Terran Imperium (hence predating the Galactic Imperium by centuries if not thousands of years). Their weapons themselves are often artifacts or the most advanced of Imperial technologies and assets. For no expense is to much for the Emperor's guardians. They alone grant audiences, access to the Palace district, and protect the Imperial Vaults. Not even the Senate may command them nor demand inquiries unto them for they are beholden to no one but whomever sits on the Celestial Throne and even the Lex Imperialis is explicit upon their powers being beyond reproach. Praetorians may act as the Emperor's authority and persona in absentia and wield imperium maius in regards to operations within their purview or warrant from the reigning monarch. In regards to Imperial citizens they are official arbitrators with extra-judiciary powers, and may wield tribunician powers in pursuit of their duties, not even Senators may be except from them in regards to the Lex Imperialis. For the Praetorians may be Judge, Jury, and Executioner in pursuit of their duties.

Varies between who they are attached too. Medical staff will have doctoral or nurse titles. Engineers will be titled Imperial Engineers etc. There often have two ranks: first is a rank given by what branch they are supporting and the second is their specialization. So an Army Doctor could be Captain of Medical Unit 109 as an example. The Logisticae does not have a reserve, but rather is split into Sector and strategic elements under their own respective Directors.

The Imperial Intelligence Bureau or II for short is the amalgamation of the various intelligence agencies in the Imperium. Until the reign of Emperor Valorian and his son, Valerius, the different branches had their own distinct Intelligence commands. However, in an effort for greater coordination they where all amalgamated into one central agency under the Emperor. The II is the most fluid branch in the Imperial military and as such its teams, sections, and divisions vary wildly from one to the other.

Era of Old Earth

BC-2200AD
Spanning from Pre-History to the 22nd Century AD the Era of Old Earth was a time when humanity was confined to the Sol System and the only habitable planet of Earth. By the Mid-21st Century Earth was plagued with resource wars, famine, and all manner of conflict. It was this desperation that launched the first automated mining stations and research facilities on The Moon, Mars, and the Asteroid belt. Progressing to permanent habitats on the Moon and Mars by 2080. By 2100 Humanity was choking Earth as overpopulation reached critical levels and the first generation ship left Earth for the Alpha Centauri system. Many more would follow for other neighboring stars. But by 2175 Humanity had discovered a very primitive form of FTL using an Alcubierre drive. Allowing ships to reach systems up to 5 Light years away in a single calculated jump. Some of these new ships arrived in systems before the surviving generation ships arrived and the local group of stars was colonized.

The United Federation Era
2200AD-2347AD)
The limits of Human FTL and navigation limited Humanity to the local bubble of stellar systems. However even then great leaps in colonization where forming. Along with this came the first colonial wars as more developed worlds began to show signs of increased planetary consciousness to themselves as separate from Earth. Eventually culminating into the damaging Great Colonial Schism which was a series of wars from 2314-2347AD. Bringing an end to the United Federation and formally dissolving the United Nations and their parliamentary system. In exchange establishing the United Earth Directorate. A corporate conglomerate.

The Corporate Era
2347AD-2402AD
The rise of megacorporation's taking control of entire worlds replaced the former nations of Earth as the leaders of humanity. Great economic gains where made at the cost of social and civil liberties. But the corporations ruled with an iron fist as they are what funded the Earth military which won the Great Colonial Schism. It was not until the Martian Revolt of 2399 and the subsequent struggle that the corporations lost political and military power. Being replaced by the Terran Republic which returned to the ideals of democracy. Primitive Terraforming technology was introduced during this time to remake Mars and many other worlds into fully hospitable planets.

Terran Republic.
2402AD-2463AD
The Terran Republic saw a restoration of the democratic ideals of the of democracy. However this too ended when a coup led by the victorious Admiral Julian Apostaric, victor of the Frontier Wars against the rebellious human settles of the Sirius Star system during the Sirian Insurgency. Founding the short lived Terran Hegemony that only lasted till 2477 with the murder of Apostaric and his entire family by Wilhelm von Ravenstar. Founding the Terran Empire with a constitution granting social and economic freedoms along with technological advances with the introduction of the Warp Engine.

Diaspora and Terran Empire
2477AD-2955
The Diaspora and Empire go hand in hand as the Imperial fronted Warp Engine allowed humans to make calculated jumps that where cost effective at distances of up to 15 light years before needing refueling. Along with increased navigation computers allowed humanity to colonize much of the Orion Arm. The Ravenstar monarchs, good or bad, reigned over a momentous time in human history. The drawback was that the Empire was being outpaced by the rate of exploration and colonization with hundreds of worlds settled. The introduction of more advanced terraforming techniques hastened the amount of time it took to transform a world and also make it more Earthlike than ever before. It was in the beginning of this era that the Original Twenty, referencing the original Twenty worlds that managed to be founded without Imperial control took place. Forming nascent states out of the reach of the Empire. Ultimately this led to the Great War when the Empire learned and sought to conquer the Original Twenty. The result was the nuclear bombardment of Earth and the destruction of seven of the Original Twenty along with widespread damage to the Empire. Fragmenting humanity and Earth began to be lost to obscurity.

Spacer Era & Rise of the Galactic Empire
3600AD-5786AD

By 3600AD many of the warring states in the Orion Arm had been absorbed by the Star Kingdom of Orion (British Empire in space) centered on Procyon Primaris. The other three major Galactic dominions arising from the newly colonized arms of the Galaxy being the Sagittarius Star Empire (modeled on the German Empire/Prussia), Cygnus Interstellar Hegemony (Asian themed), and the Perseus United Systems (Western Democracy themed). Further advances like the Positron Matrix to create true artificial intelligences, various FTL drives allowing anything from a few dozen light years to thousands in a matter of hours, and all manner of biological enhancements.

In 5786AD the world of Nova Terra was the capital of the regional power, the Novan Imperium, that as the larger four Empires engaged in a bitter struggle for power managed to eclipse them all. Slowly absorbing them all until it was the sole Galactic power left. Styling itself the Galactic Imperium.

Age of the Imperium
5786AD-Present)
The Era of the Empire is the longest period of Human civilization. Stretching over twenty-thousand years absorbing all of known space. Launching a wave of exploration, colonization, economic growth, and technological explosion. In a way the Galactic Imperium was expected, greater FTL and technology allowing for a practical galaxy wide government to form.

Humanity under the Imperium is varied, with most worlds having high standards of life and the average life span at roughly 250 years. Many worlds are either self-sufficient or heavily specialized. Industrial worlds producing trillions in goods, to Agricultural worlds producing enough food stuff to feed entire star systems, to worlds devoted to the advancement of human knowledge. Imperial Medicine and Bionics allow those with the means to acquire it can greatly extend their life span.

Humanity is also more varied, many of the oldest Human worlds have populations that mirror their environments or possess unique traits and therefore forming different races. Alien populations, a minority, are generally extended the same privileges as humans if they assimilate into Imperial culture.

Recent Events
In 25,659: The Imperium launches massive campaigns in attempts to curb or destroy the rising amounts of piracy and sedition among dozens of worlds. The Copernicus-61 campaign led by Crown Prince Valerian himself proves to be the culmination of this as it crushes the newly created System Confederation that attempted to secede with over a hundred other worlds.

25,660: Crown Prince Valerian vanishes. Leading to the Emperor withdrawing from most public affairs and the Imperial Crown Princess Valeria assumes to be heir incumbent. Verina converts to Terraism, a Human supremacy religion that is rising rapidly throughout the Imperium. Terraism holds Earth as a Lost Holy World and that Humanity's destiny is to inherit the universe. It's belief in a divine being to arrive creates a zealous movement and several religious military orders.

25,662: Senate Passes the Act of Restitution. Effectively enlarging Great House and SAS territories to 300 systems. Due to the still stagnating Imperium and its slow loss of control.

25,663: Verina is ordained as Protector of the Faith and put in charge of the newly unified Holy Orders of Terra.

25,666: Purging of Caliv IV. Holy Orders commit genocide on the Perdatus Gulf world because they hold the native religion of Al-Islar as heretical.

25,667: Perdatus Gulf conflict ends after 171 years. The Perdatus Gulf Sector and surrounding regions are desolate and in ruin.

25,680: Assault on Octaranos VIII occurs when the Holy Orders of Terra destroy the offshoot Protestanata Faith. Senate Passes the Act of Religious Toleration. Ordering the Holy Orders to lay down their arms.

25,684: After four years and resistance from the Holy Orders and Terraism followers the Senate overturns the Act of Religious Toleration.

25,691: Disaster at Hesperidium: Senate gathering on Hesperidium ends in terrorism attack that kills four hundred senators and over a thousand others. Senate's Act of Religious Unity proclaims Terraism as Imperial Faith by the now Terraism majority Senators.

25,692: Wars of Religion kick off across the Imperium and all its subset territories. Devastating over a hundred thousand worlds.

25,699: Wars of Religion end with a weakening Imperium as many planets proclaim themselves independent (nominally), any open attempts are quickly crushed by the Imperial military.

25,709: Current Year.

Name: Baldor I
Nickname: The Old Man
Age: 330
Birth Date: February 25th, 25,380 AD
Gender: Male
Planet of Origin: Nova Terra
Race/Species: Human-Solarian
Height: 6ft
Weight: 225Ib
Physical Description or Image: Image
Social Class: Nobility
Titles: Emperor of the Galactic Imperium
Occupation: Head of State for the Imperium
Hobbies/Pastimes: The ancient game of Chess, Equestrianism, and Writing
Talents/Skills: Competent Administrator, able to play multiple musical instruments, and possesses good skill in combat (formerly, he hasn't engaged in any sort of combat in decades).
Religious Beliefs: Atheist.
Personality: Charming, polite, and a gentleman. Baldor was raised for Imperial Court life and plays it well. However internally he is a deeply conflicted man who knows the Emperorship pales to what it once was. Concerned over the erosion of power in addition to the bickering Senate and the increasing fragmentation of the Empire.
Biography: Born to Emperor Koronus I and his sixth wife Verina, Koronus' only child, and rumored that the previous Emperor had to have Medicinal assistance to get his wife pregnant. A common joke during Koronus reign was of his rumored impotence. Baldor was born on a cold morning on the planet of Nova Terra. Within the Imperial Palace. Raised more by Empress Verina and the Imperial Vicar (chamberlain) Ernest da'Zurgenfeld than his own father; this was probably a good thing. Koronus was lazy and let more of the Celestial Thrones authority diminish. However, Baldor was raised to become quite the astute young man. Entering service with the Imperial Army and then the Guard to earn military experience at age 25. He lived, ate, and slept in the same rooms as Imperial soldiers. Although under the watchful eye of the Praetorians who where ever close by. Until the age of 42 when he left service and entered the administration. Appointed as the military governor of the troublesome planet of Orsar XIV. Needless to say he managed to end the rebellious sentiment there adequately enough.

In a more detailed summary of his military career the young would be Emperor entered service as a captain in the 15th Nova Terran Heavy Infantry, 'Emperor Valerian's I Own,' Regiment. The 50,000 strong formation was a veteran formation with a battle history stretching back since before the War with the OSB. The Regiment was deployed to the Perdatus Gulf and participated in the Assault on Alkaesor VII, the Siege of Tehrus, the Battle of Bloody Peak, and the pacification of Iraqqa Secundus. During that time Baldor managed to take part in frontline combat on numerous occasions despite all attempts at withholding him from direct danger. He earned the Solar Cross on two separate occasions along with four other members of his company during the Assault on Alkaesor VII and the Battle of Bloody Peak. The Solar Cross being one of the Imperium's highest forms of military honors and given for extreme bravery, gallantry, or valor. After three years the Regiment was rotated out of the conflict and he was promoted to the rank of Major. A year later he was a full Colonel and placed in command of the 2nd Nova Terran Armored Regiment, 'Gunheads,' for their fearsome reputation which some commanders call reckless. However their list of victories stretched back since the 9th Millennium. The Regiment was sent as part of the 889th Imperial Army Corps attached to the 98th Imperial Army fighting over the Kalesis System from multiple insurgencies along with the rebel government. It was there that he was wounded by a snipers laser bolt and it took three surgeries for the wound to be fully set to heal. Leaving the military at the age of 42.

Ascending to the Celestial Throne amidst much pomp, Baldor could have lived a life of endless luxury as the wealthiest man in the Galaxy, but instead chose modesty. Not being a genius, but not stupid either, Baldor is a man of relatively modest intellect. Marrying Augusta Va Angelus of Great House Angelus, he has five children: Valerian, Valeria, Verina, Romeran, and Reman. Aged 75, 73, 69, 65, and 57 respectively.

Name: Valerian

Height: 6ft 2
Weight: 240

Hobbies/Pastimes: Physics, warfare stratagems, spiritual fulfillment
Talents/Skills: Military genius, adept administrator, good pilot.
Religious Beliefs: Secretly follows the Faith of Thirteen, an ancient Solarian Faith.
Personality: Pragmatic, harsh, and generally uncompromising but honorable.
Biography: The eldest child of Emperor Baldor I, and born on the Imperial Sanctuary planet of Odin. Crown Prince Valerian grew up amid the beautiful mountains, beaches, and forests of Odin. He was groomed to be Emperor, a strong Emperor, and as such was quickly given over to the military. Performing above all expectations and even sitting on the Joint Chiefs for the Navy, Guard, and Army on three separate terms. Officially he is not formally a part of the military, and instead operates under specific mandates, fulfilling the role as an executive in the name of the Emperor than an officer of the Imperial military. As such he is often met with either praise or utter chagrin from Imperial officers. While also not afraid to circumvent Senatorial power to accomplish his own goals. As such the Senate is divided upon him as well.

Name: Valeria
Nickname: The Red Lady
Age: 73

Religious Beliefs: Atheist
Personality: Polite if a bit impulsive at times. Unafraid to speak her mind, however she has since learned to be a negotiator in the capacity of representing the Imperial Family to the Senate
Biography: Born on Nova Terra in the Imperial Palace, unlike her brother, she never went into the military. Instead she was thrust into the Senatorial scene. Working with the Senate and observing the legislative process. Baldor hoped that one day she would become a Senator or Imperial Judiciary in the Imperial Justice system. Her life as a result has been a mix of backstabbing, boredom, and yearning for adventure. Hearing the stories of her brother and those of her father only make this worse.

After Valerian vanished unexpectedly Baldor retreated from public life. Leaving the new heir presumptive as the Emperor's Executor.

Verina wanted for nothing, but yet she stood out, for she was most like Valerian in resemblance; yet, was garnered with similar qualities as her father and older sister. She was a kind and gentle child growing up, largely on Odin, and cried when Valerian left to pursue his military training. She was always more attached to Valerian than to any of her other siblings, and the two where largely inseparable during their childhoods save when Valerian was on Nova Terra or else ware. Arriving at the Sayshelle Naval Academy on the world of Santonni, located in the Outer Territories. Located in the deep Galactic South many thousands of light years away from Nova Terra. Sayshelle was home to one of the largest Naval bases and training centers in the Imperium.

Transferring with the rank of Ensign she was spent two years at the academy. Graduating with certification to fly assault craft, auxiliary craft, and larger ships up to cruisers. She was admitted into the Sayshelle Imperial Officers Academy in her second year and exited with the rank of Lieutenant. Her heavy course load took a toll on her however and she did attempt suicide more than once, possessing few real friends, and feeling distant from her family. However, the intervention of Valerian and Baldor managed to halt this activity. In an effort to keep her training on track they had her transferred to be tutored by one of the Imperium's Grand Admirals.

After the vanishing of Valerian and the rise of Terraism she was a convert to the faith. Becoming Lord Protector of the Faith and head of its Holy Orders.

Tag.

So the Imperial Guard has no room for any political machinations, seeing as how they are supposed to be fanatically loyal?

Also could I get a rundown on the Protestanta offshoot? I get that's it's equivalent to Protestantism but how does it differ in exact terms from Terraism?

They are not as zealous and hierarchial. Nor do they take the teachings of a Messiah as literal but more as metaphorical lessons on morality.

Gotcha, thanks. I may do a secretly heretical Praetorian or Guard general.

Also, who are the Solarians?

They're an extinct offshoot of Humanity. Solaria was basically Space Atlantis that existed until the late 6th Millennium. The Nobles of the Imperium like to say they have some Solarian blood in them. Due to the fact the Solarians where held to be a highly evolved race. Although any DNA mapping done by Imperial scientists has shown that at best the purest noble lines have only 50% Solarian blood and accordingly no one is alive that has true Solarian traits or abilities. Solarian artifacts are around though and pretty much priceless. Praetorian armor suits are Solarian in design and actually possess antique suits that to this day are still operable (a testament to their ancient Solarian engineers and smiths).

Interesting.

Last question: Is the Guard too fanatically loyal for there to be commanders in the branch with their own agenda?

Pretty much. The Guard likes to draw as many recruits as possible from orphans, youth, and younger individuals who go through intense indoctrination and training. The Guard basically becomes their life and the Imperium their identity. Older commanders may have religious beliefs but they'd probably never put them before their duty since there is nothing stopping their subordinates or superiors from shooting them for negligence or sedition.

Name: Grand Admiral Sinsum Lisher
Nickname: The Arsonist of Kinzoku
Age: 199
Birth Date: June 13th, 25506
Gender: Male
Planet of Origin: Nova Terra
Race/Species: Human
Height: 6'4
Weight: 200 lbs
Physical Description or Image: Image
Social Class: Born into a wealthy but low-status noble family on Nova Terra, mostly known for their bankers and lawyers
Titles: Chief of Staff of the Navy, Grand Admiral
Occupation: Chief of Staff of the Navy, Grand Admiral
Hobbies/Pastimes: History, ancient literature, smoking
Talents/Skills: Gifted in strategy, skilled in politics, practiced in self-discipline, competent in a physical confrontation
Religious Beliefs: Privately agnostic, recently publicly converted to Terraism as a display of loyalty to the Empire.
Personality: A dour, friendless man, many people would describe Admiral Lisher as a man who would go out of his way to avoid enjoying life. The military is his life, and he plans a highly disciplined routine every day, even when he does not need to. He is intensely loyal to the empire, and would do anything to revitalize it. Lisher actively shuns what some would call "glory", or indeed any kind of public spotlight, as he prefers to be alone and becomes very uncomfortable and awkward when he has a lot of eyes on him. He instead prefers to do useful, unrecognized work in the background, and this humility has greatly helped his career.
Biography: Sinsum was the "spare" to his older sister's "heir" in the House of Lisher, a wealthy banking family in the southern hemisphere of Nova Terra. His sister was taught economics from birth, while he was given a more lax education and allowed to pursue his interests. His interests in question were ancient strategists and generals, and ancient philosophers. The former interest was encouraged greatly by his family, and was eventually enrolled in an academy for military officers. After graduating, his rise was meteoric, becoming a Admiral within two decades. In 25,650, a loose confederation of pirates and rebels were traced to an elaborate complex on the ancient abandoned mining planet of Kinzoku, a barren uninhabitable world notable only for the large amount of hydrogen in its atmosphere. Lisher was dispatched to deal with the rabble, but encountered surprisingly fierce resistance. While he could have simply called for an Imperial Army force for support to crush the rebels, a simple but needlessly expensive solution, he instead devised a move that would become infamous for its cleverness and brutality. He had his fleet bombard the atmosphere with thermonuclear weapons, using them to ignite the hydrogen in the atmosphere in a chain reaction. The rebels were consumed by fire they could not escape, and Lisher was gifted with the nickname "The Arsonist of Kinzoku" after the battle was won. After Kinzoku his achievements were much less exciting, proposing reforms to the military to the Senate and his superiors and effectively commanding his subordinates to ensure their garrisons were effective in curtailing subversive elements, ultimately being promoted to Grand Admiral and then appointed to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, where he sits today. After the disaster at Hesperidium, Lisher publically, if half-heartedly, converted to Terraism as a show of loyalty to the Empire, and has been integral in crushing resistance in the Wars of Religion. He seeks to revitalize and unite the divided and stagnant Empire, by curtailing the powers of the Senate and increasing those of the military.

When he is not present his peers he is rather quiet and keeps to himself, he is quite the artist and reads many literate works on paper.
Biography:
Born to an affluent family, Jacob was educated by many tutors but one of them of the name Lucas was the one who stand out. Lucas taught Jacob about various great leaders through history, how civilizations fell and rise. One of them was the United States and its constitution which Jacob became enamored with along with several other freedom movements through history.

Eventually Jacob grew to become an idealist revolutionary who wished for a better galaxy that was ruled by the people for the people. His ideas garner attention from imperial authorities and his family. He was outcasted from his family and deemed as Persona Non grata by the empire and went into hiding. Soon he gathered several other revolutionaries and joined in an effort to unite an army to take down the empire, it failed and he was incarcerated for treason. He along other followers escaped during a riot and went off to spread their message across several worlds building a massive following from both the one of the bottom and the ones in the middle to eventually garner the support of some full fledged planetary governments who decided to separate from the empire and join in a coalition to fight the empire.

Jacob though reluctant, was pushed to be the leader the coalition needed, he enacted a reform to make a representative and judicial body to represent the people and was voted on by the people, he also united the armies under one single banner. The Coalition has engaged the empire in a war of attrition using guerrillea tactics and Jacob's charismatic and strong leadership. He has a cybernetic left arm, he lost it when he escaped the Imperial prison he was at.

Name of Territory: The Free Planetary Union, which is a rebel branch that consists of many systems in the Exterior and several in the middle regions
Government: United Planetary Representative Council (civilian branch). Militia (military branch).
Image

It has kept this title as secreta as it continues to be part of the empire. So far the leaders of the planets and Jacob Salazar have been planning to unite other planets under a Coalition but talks of this are highly secretive and any possible infiltrator is eliminated. Most people (Human and Alien) in these worlds have bad opinions of the empire and do not know of the Militias existence. Military leaders have assured their loyalty and willingness to die over being compromised.

So far most leaders of the planets seem to be on board and are waiting on Salazar to contact other rebel movements that would aid the cause.

Capital World: Kepler 02
Population: 100 billion at least, exact number not known.
Economy: Several planets concentrate on many types of economies, some in metals, others in consumers goods, vehicles, weapons, and many in mining of several types of ores.
Culture: Many different cultures varying in planets
Social Structure: Middle and lower class.
Territorial Size: Influence in most Exterior planets and in many middle region planets
Military and Security Forces: numbering in 100 million in total size and varying in equipment and in training but all under one single banner and all eager to fight and die for the cause. They have also industrial capacities to create their own weapons, equipment and even vehicles. The most recent revolts in the Exterior regions have give the Militia more industrial capabilities

Name: Celdes Tyrdav
Nickname: The Wraith
Age: 182
Birth Date: February 2nd, 25523
Gender: Male
Planet of Origin: Arnessia
Race/Species: Human
Height: 6'1
Weight: 210 lbs
Physical Description or Image:
Image

Social Class: Comes from a relatively poor, if well-regarded house from Arnessia, a Middle World almost directly opposite Nova Terra.
Titles: Captain-General of the Praetorian Guard
Occupation: Leads the Praetorians
Hobbies/Pastimes: Celdes enjoys quiet reflection on his various academic interests, which include history, archaeology and literature. This has led him to take an interest in all artifacts of historical significance, which he collects whenever possible.
Talents/Skills: Celdes is, first and foremost, a superb soldier and bodyguard to the Emperor, with years of practice protecting him from assassination as well as assessing and analyzing potential threats to the imperial family. He is charming enough to navigate the intricacies of the Imperial court and has developed a good investigative eye for when the Emperor has delegated special missions to the Praetorians.
Religious Beliefs: For the sake of public loyalty and keeping up appearances, Celdes goes through the proper motions of Terraism, but privately (very much so) he is a devout adherent of Karvelism, a small, relatively obscure sect of Protestanata which follows the heretical beliefs of the long-dead prophet Pilypas Karvelis. Essentially, Karvelism holds that God punished Earth for descending into sin and debauchery, and that its rediscovery would herald the fall of the current empire for much the same reasons.

Personality: Friends would call him affable and charming, while detractors would brand him smug and deceitful. What is true is that a cult of personality has developed around Celdes over the years within the Praetorian Guard, and while he may not overtly push a Caesarist line, he does little to discourage it among his men. He is almost always seen to be upbeat and lively, but in the thick of battle this very rapidly gives way to dour brooding. Even so, the Captain-General has a penchant for occasionally making light of nasty situations with a sarcastic remark or two.

Biography:
The fourth of five children of the House of Tyrdav, Celdes was born into an aristocratic life of great prestige but no great wealth. His family, though old and prestigious, had been suffering financially for some time, and its rule over the world of Arnessia was no longer a certain thing. By the time Celdes came of age, the Tyrdavs were barely counted among the ranks of the Great Houses.

While his siblings pursued every possible avenue of wealth, Celdes set out to acquire for his family a prestigious military position. He enrolled in Cygnus Naval Academy on the Marine track. He was entirely mediocre in the classroom and graduated right in the middle of his class. Soon after, he received his commission as a Lieutenant in the Marines.

Celdes came to distinguish himself on the battlefield rather than in the classroom. He saw considerable action during a years-long campaign against heretical and secessionist elements in the Taurus Sector. He rose up the ranks in battle after battle. By age forty Celdes had reached the rank of Colonel and had become one of the more sensational figures of the Corps.

The fighting in Taurus came to a head with the massive imperial assault on the rebel fortress world of Elorrio IV. Even after sustained orbital bombardment by the Navy, the initial Marine assault suffered horrific casualties, upwards of 75% of the 50,000-strong landing force. Celdes himself sustained a gruesome wound: an incendiary grenade torched much of his lower body. Naturally, that was the last of the battle that he remembered.

Celdes awoke some weeks later in the wake of successful reconstructive surgery on his legs, although physical therapy was needed to regain their use. In the midst of his therapy, he was approached by two aging soldiers in mystifying golden armor. They were Praetorians.

The offer that followed changed the course of his life. As soon as he was healthy, Celdes was transferred to Nova Terra and went through two years of intensive and highly specialized Praetorian training. The program not only put him through advanced and often terrifying simulations, but also introduced anti-aging stimulants into his bloodstream. At its conclusion he was awarded his own suit of almost inconceivably advanced Solarian armor. Almost immediately
the assignments started pouring in from the Captain-General and the Senate (but not the Emperor at the time, given Koronus' indifference to governing).

For years, 'the assigment' became Celdes' life. There was always a warlord to hunt down, stolen technology to recover, treason of one form or another to investigate. His somewhat unwholesome nickname was derived from the quiet, silent manner in which he would neutralize myriad enemies of the Emperor.

As he gradually ascended the ranks of the Praetorians, Celdes' steady stream of success began to make him a reliable asset in the eyes of the Captain-General. There was only one assignment that shook his loyalty.

In 25608, while pursuing the heretic priests of Karvel in the Fellnost Sector, Celdes infiltrated the reclusive order and adopted the role of a priest. But as he wormed his way into the organization, he was exposed to their theology, and in fact came to actively believe it. Much of his conversion was due to his love for and lasting affair with Kintyra Laurentis, a priestess of the order. When it came time to expose and betray the Karvelists, Celdes did his duty, but he could not bring himself to kill his lover, especially after he learned she was pregnant with their child. He aided her flight, along with a few other Karvelists, before covering up his role and ensuring that his superiors were made certain of the order's total destruction.

Afterwards, his newfound piety in Karvelism was only ever the most private of private affairs for him, something he shared with no one, especially as the Empire's insistence on religious orthodoxy increased.

As a Lord Commander, Celdes witnessed the coronation of Emperor Baldor. However, the young monarch's life was threatened just a few months into his reign. Koronus had fathered many bastards during his decadent four centuries on the throne. These in turn had started their own families in many cases, causing innumerable problems down the line.

The 17th of May Conspiracy saw many of these bastard children plot to assassinate Baldor. During a visit to Odin, a number of bombings planted among the grounds nearly slew the young Emperor. The Captain-General himself was killed shielding Baldor from shrapnel.

When the dust cleared, it was Celdes who oversaw the imperial family's evacuation off-planet, and Celdes who was responsible for hunting down and killing many of the conspirators in the following months. Baldor recognized his efforts and appointed him the next Captain-General.

Over the decades, Celdes has served Baldor with intense loyalty, doing everything in his power to protect the imperial family and hunt their enemies. But the religious conflicts of recent years have shaken his faith in the Empire. He finds himself unable to support an established orthodoxy that he privately regards as repressive and dangerous. And, despite his many years of service to Baldor, the reversal of imperial decline would, in his mind, require action that may put him at odds with his oaths of loyalty.

Hey; I know I wasn't part of the first incarnation, but I hope you don't mind me jumping into this one. To be honest, I don't really think this is one of my better applications; I'm not overly happy with how it turned out. Still, hopefully there aren't too many issues with it.
Name: Machinatio Industria.

Nickname: The Money Machine.

Age: Four hundred and thirty seven years old.

Birth Date: 25,272.

Gender: Not applicable; normally referred to as male.

Planet of Origin: The imperial capital of Nova Terra.

Race/Species: He was a pure human, once. After receiving hundreds of cybernetic implants, gradually replacing every organic part of him with mechanical replacements, he has become entirely robotic, with his brain being the only biological thing about him.

Height: Around seven feet.

Weight: Well over five hundred pounds; not as a result of fat, but, rather, as a result of most of his body being made of metal.

Physical Description or Image: Machinatio was born as a human male with light skin, light hair, and blue eyes. His current appearance is completely different; so much so that nobody who looked at him would come close to thinking he was ever human. He has a total lack of flesh and bones, and a similar lack of hair; his body is a large robotic chassis, built of a shiny dark-yellow metal, with entirely synthetic limbs. Rather than having biological eyes, he has cybernetic eyes which give off a faint orange glow.

Image

Social Class: Machinatio Industria is, by far, one of the richest people in the entire galaxy. He is the primary shareholder, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of the Board of the Machina Conglomerate, a massive Fortune 500 company controlling a vast industrial empire across the Imperium. The Machina Conglomerate is the galaxy's leading producer of robotics, machinery, computers, and, most famously, cybernetic implants, with many hundreds of quadrillions of dollars worth of assets and tens of millions of factories spread out across many industrial planets.

Titles: He doesn't have any official government positions or titles of nobility; even so, he wields vast influence in the Imperium as a result of his immense wealth and economic power.

Occupation: Businessman, inventor, scientist, and engineer rolled into one. Machinatio not only manages the Machina Conglomerate, but also works, alongside a large R&D team, to design ever more advanced robotics technologies.

Hobbies/Pastimes: With his lack of biological components, he also has a lack of biological whims. Money is the only thing he cares about in life; he doesn't waste time with leisure activities.

Talents/Skills: Machinatio is a very shrewd businessman as well as a revolutionary designer of cybernetic and robotic technologies.

Religious Beliefs: Unaffiliated.

Personality: Completely amoral, extremely greedy, cold and calculating businessman. He goes out of his way to further expand his acquisitions at every possible opportunity, and never rules out any means for doing so; if he believes he can get away with it, he won't hesitate to contract mercenaries and pirates to attack the competition or use other such underhanded tactics to further his hold on the market.

Biography: Machinatio was born on Nova Terra, the son of a very wealthy corporate figure. His father, Praecursor Industria, was the founder of a large computer manufacturing company; though they weren't nobility, they had money, and lots of it. Praecursor had come from humble roots as an IT technician, eventually founding his own business which he catapulted to immense wealth after he made a series of inventions and breakthroughs in computers and computer production. He was both a successful engineer and a shrewd businessman, and he dedicated a great deal of time and money ensuring that his only son, Machinatio, would be able to follow in his footsteps, hiring some of the finest engineers on Nova Terra to educate him in the art of engineering while Praecursor himself taught him about the art of acquisition. Machinatio proved to be very skilled at the art of engineering, especially with regards to robotics, successfully building his first robot at age ten. In his teenage years, he started working on a series of inventions, utilizing a small workshop which his father gave him, attempting to outmatch already existing robot models, and he did so with considerable success, designing multiple robotic designs with improvements in effectiveness, efficiency, and cost of production.

When Machinatio turned eighteen, he opened his very own business, using money loaned to him by his father, producing and selling his robot models. He was a prodigal inventor, and he would quickly prove that he was also, much like his father, a very apt entrepreneur. He made a fortune very quickly; not only did he sell high-quality products, he proved to be a talented negotiator and always found the most lucrative contracts. Over the course of the next few decades, his fortune would double many times over, with Machinatio opening new factory after new factory and receiving ever more profitable contracts from large corporations. During this time, he continued to further refine his company's technology, catapulting his business to ever new heights; before long, he eclipsed his father's net-worth, growing ever richer. He quickly gained a reputation as a revolutionary pioneer of technology and industry, becoming a prominent figure in the technology industry.

A little over a century after the start of Machinatio's business career, his aging father died of natural causes; Machinatio inherited a great deal of business assets from him. Now officially owning two large corporations, alongside many small subsidiary companies, Machinatio officially founded his own corporate conglomerate, the Machina Conglomerate, with his net-worth soaring higher and higher, the corporate machine growing larger and larger. But, after his father's death, Machinatio started worrying about more than just gathering more acquisitions; he started thinking about his own mortality, and his inevitable death from old age. Becoming fearful of his own eventual demise, he, alongside the finest scientists and engineers of his company, started large-scale research into cyborg technology, hoping to delay a natural death by replacing his natural body, gradually making many major breakthroughs and inventing revolutionary new technologies. Over the course of the next few decades, many cutting-edge new implants were designed by the Conglomerate, ranging from artificial organs to fully functioning synthetic limbs. Eventually, they discovered methods to replace every single part of the human body with mechanical implants, excluding the brain, effectively turning humans into sentient machines, making people stronger, faster, and far less vulnerable to injury, with sharper senses, while significantly prolonging lifespans. The products were revolutionary, though extremely expensive; they became a popular luxury market for the ultra-rich within the Imperium.

Machinatio was always the first to utilize his company's new implants, becoming increasingly machine-like, until he had eventually fulfilled his goal of giving himself a fully artificial body. As his human body was gradually torn away, his humanity, so to speak, faded away; he became increasingly obsessed with money, and started utilizing more and more underhanded means to expand his assets. One thing led to another, and he eventually found himself using outright criminal tactics to destroy the competition, especially along frontier worlds where piracy and smuggling ran rampant, hiring thugs to intimidate, vandalize, or even murder competitors. The Machina Conglomerate expanded at an unprecedented rate, with corporation after corporation being brought into the fold through buyouts and takeovers; before long, it was the galaxy's largest player in the robotics and computer industries, and was recognized as one of the richest corporations in the Imperium. Machinatio's vast riches grew further and further in size as his company grew; he had become a quadrillionaire many times over, one of the richest men in the entire galaxy.

He, and his business, ran into some roadblocks as a result of the rise of human supremacist religious zeal and the Wars of Religion; backlash against cyborgs and robotic humans, who were largely considered to be impure by the religious zealots, started becoming somewhat widespread, leading to boycotts of the Conglomerate and protests against it across many planets. A few especially militant Terraists even went so far as to sabotage Machina facilities, and multiple assassination attempts were made against Machinatio himself. The religious backlash against him and his company was a big obstacle preventing him from gaining any official titles or positions within the Imperial government, serving as a huge barrier to his political ambitions. Even so, Machinatio was one of the most famous and, by far, one of the richest people in the Galaxy, and his wealth and prestige gave him the ability to do almost anything he wanted.

Machinatio currently still lives in his birthplace of Nova Terra, residing in a large presidential suite at the top of one of the Galaxy's largest skyscrapers, overseeing and managing his ever-expanding business empire. He has big ambitions and aspirations, hoping to eventually advance his position within the Imperium even further, dreaming up big plans to restore the old era of corporate dominance, putting himself, and the other richest men in the Galaxy, in a position of even greater power than ever before.

I actually might go for a different character than Lisher - what are your thoughts on the spiritual leader of a transhumanist minority religion that fled into exile with what forces he could muster post-Hesperidium?
