Yeah, I remember watching that show. It was a hell of a good time.

Everything old is new again. I guess they're banking on all the kids who used to watch the original run being old enough to have jobs and thus money to spend on the merch?
As for why people enjoyed it: Unique art style and dark humor was a fair part of it. Also the "lul so randum" nonsense was popular back then...I'm honestly kind of hoping they tone that down in the revival.

I refer to the period of 1990-2005 as the cartoon renaissance. Now it looks like we're starting to enter a neo-renaissance.

This is a bad idea in my view, Jhonen Vasquez hated working for Nickelodeon and the show was cancelled because of poor ratings. The target demographic was 9-12 year olds but it seemed to attract an older audience instead.

The company cares about profits above all else, they replay Spongebob without end because it makes money but they only gave Legend of Korra one season initially, because they assumed that a series with a female protagonist doesn't have very much profit potential. It is a wonder why Nickelodeon ever green lit the show in the first place because if they saw Vasquez's previous work in doing due diligence on it, they'd understand that his material wasn't a good match with the rest of their programming lineup. Cartoon Network would've been a better fit.

I just hope they don't screw it up. I will watch the movie because I am a Invader Zim fan, but they better not double-cross us.

Oh and by the way, I reckon the movie will be Invader Dib, the planned Invader Zim series finale.
