Piano started when I was just a little spud, back in Sun Valley, Idaho. Learned then how while I could read music, I tended to play by ear. Started with cello in middle-school, went to baritone and marching band, pep band, and symphonic band in HS. We were an award-winning marching band, undefeated for a very long time there. Got to play some solos, was section leader, all that. Good times.

Cool, Sophomore alto sax here from Clinton, Mississippi. We are up an coming, and this year finally got our name on the map when we beat the last years national championship winner at our first appearance at regional finals. Pretty fun marching band is, except for the blazing mississippi heat that makes band camp hell. Hoping to branch out into other instruments though, got a friend helping me learn trumpet, and another helping with clarinet, not much free time to learn albeit. I'm glad to see a experienced musician post though!

Oh, son ... my 'experience' was years ago. XD We're talking 'graduated in 1989' here. That heat, though - ours was dry heat, sunburns, and the occasional dehydration issue. Cannot imagine doing all that in the heat and humidity y'all get down there. Uuuugh.
Loved it, though. Some of my best years were through band, and still have friends all over the place from all of it. Heck, even helped work on/painted some of the backdrops and props used. Like the 15' tall Old Spice bottle. (Don't ask), and the Train - was a lot of fun. My son tried trombone for a while, but he's decided he's done with that now. Have nephews and nieces doing piano, violin, trumpet, trombone - lotta things that way, and man - they are good. Love to see a love for music passed on, even if its just music appreciation. Without any prompting from me, son noted that his fave classical is Mozart as well. Out of the blue.
We done good with this kid, mmhmm.

I like two, actually. Acoustic guitar and flutes. Flutes are badass.
2. What instrument/s do you play if you play one at all.
Acoustic guitar
3. What is your favorite genre of music to play
60's and 70's rock, a stark contrast to the classical guitar that my first guitar teacher tried to made me play.
4. Whats better, woodwinds or brass?
Did I not just say flutes are badass? Woodwinds.

The Crumpet is a terrible horn, loud, blaring, only sounds good in ensembles or in certain pieces written specifically for the trumpet, too hard to learn and master, Would prefer a mellophone over a trumpet any day of the week

Wallenburg wrote:1. What is your favorite Instrument to play/listen too.
I love to play the flute. To be honest, I love to listen to dedicated musicians on nearly any instrument. French horn, trumpet, cello, piano, and flute resonate with me particularly well.
2. What instrument/s do you play if you play one at all.
As mentioned above, I am a flautist. I have played for the last 9 years in concert and marching bands. I do not practice nearly as much as I ought to, but I still love the music.
3. What is your favorite genre of music to play
I've been trained on classical music, and I enjoy that the most. However, I appreciate some variety, and welcome other genres like jazz or Latin or rock.
4. Whats better, woodwinds or brass?
Woodwind master race. /s
I do not think either group of instruments is better than the other. Such a question is just as odd as asking whether the flute or sax is better, or the trumpet or trombone, or the piano or harpsichord. They all have their unique timbres, and all serve their roles in music very well.Datlofff wrote:The Crumpet is a terrible horn, loud, blaring, only sounds good in ensembles or in certain pieces written specifically for the trumpet, too hard to learn and master, Would prefer a mellophone over a trumpet any day of the week
You must not have encountered many experienced trumpet players. It is an excellent instrument, and is one of the easier ones to learn when compared to other brass instruments. It has a good voice, capable of a wide range of different expressions. Also, it is the trumpet's job to drive the bus from the back.
