Johnson said one goal for the Men’s Project is to ultimately prevent future violence by teaching participants to recognize warning signs of unhealthy interactions. The program will also give insights to facilitators and staff about perceptions of masculinity and how they impact the student experience, including gender-based violence on campus, alcohol, vulnerability, media sexuality, and relationships.
By 'gender based violence' I take it that this program means men and men alone cause violence. Even if I agreed with that, I'm doubtful that this is the way to deal with it.
Anyway I'm curious: do people here think this is a good idea? Personally I don't think so. I have found in teaching children and teens that it's far more important to have a clear set of teachings about ethics than it is to teach stuff like this which I find vague and confusing. Establishing values about how people ought to treat one another and expect to be treated has to be clear and succinct. Most human beings are going to turn out to be masculine and feminine; it's simply biology. That is what I believe.
I'm listing a couple more articles on the subject as well.
Male college students to undergo ‘critical self-reflection’ of masculinity
Male students told "be a man" represents toxic masculinity"
Be advised: while I have definite opinions on this, I'm quite open to discussing others. However I'm going to ignore posts that are just attacks on my character or suspect me of putting this thread up for no good reason. If you're not interested in the subject I recommend finding somewhere else to post.
