On the fateful day that corruption seeped into the land no one was spared its influence. Entire populations changed, the very land cracked and absorbed in dark evil. In a matter of moments, the land split by the calamity with no true name, no known cause. Armies of evil and hatred formed by the loss of life and twisted unnatural seeping darkness that envelopes the land.
In the shadows of the land did civilization recede, many peoples forced to fend for themselves or be twisted into evil forms. The very essence of the world, magic, twisted to new corrupted forms which created even more monstrosities and only served to push the influence of corruption. Life forces taken and risen in the form of the undead. Holy magics twisted into dark, tainted ooze.
None were truly safe from the corruption, and many were wiped out into their new identities, lost in time and cursed to live as monstrosities. Those that managed to strive and rebuild did so with great caution and planning, ensuring the avoidance of their own people falling to the now corrupt nature of the world.
However, this was not true for all.
The Batyra, the Mystic Peoples of the North, the Readers of the Crystals. The humans of the far northern island that purely lived off of magic had not been seen since the fateful calamitous day that struck the land. In the recent month a discovery was made of an underground cavern in the Great Forests of the North, just near Veranfeld. The explorers that had made the discovery found deposits of crystals and ancient trees that matched those existing in the ancient lands of the Batyra.
Following the discovery the expedition returned to Veranfeld to discuss their findings, reporting on it before all of them mysteriously vanished a week later. This occurrence only lead to more strange events, all over the continent people would vanish without a trace. No word to their loved ones, and no evidence of kidnappings or other means. What made this more of a mystery was the fact that nearly every civilized realm was experiencing this strange occurrence, making it imperative that people considered important be watched over by personal guard at all times, or else they faced the possible threat of ending up like one of the many lost masses.
Even stranger comes reports of crystalline structures appearing in the far North by travelers, these structures sometimes described as floating in mid-air, and almost seeming like they take the very life out of everything they touch.
You are an adventurer, and have evidently come across a pamphlet explaining the situation by the Mage's Guild. They are looking for able-bodied men and women to gather in the closest local city of Llothmorian on the outskirts of the Dominion, those who have gathered will be tasked with assessing this new threat to the realms, and paid handsomely for it.
