What makes a good flag

I need some tips on designing my own flag.

Look at a variety of existing flags in the real world, look at the various designs, then find one you like, combine it with a symbol that represents your country, then go from there to make it unique.

If a five-year-old can't draw it from memory, redesign it.

Make a flag that is simple, yet elegant in design. Like Timhampton said, make it nearly so that a child could draw it if need be. Although if you want to get more complicated and do a flag with a wreath or something, be my guest

For me it's having

• a good color scheme
• good symbols/emblems
• a overall good design
• and the most important part, having a good and important meaning
