Breaking into password protected regions

It has been a long time since I read this specific rule so I would just like some clarification, what are the rules on trying to enter a passworded region?

I am guessing it is OK if you get the password from someone either on purpose or on accident, but not ok to hack/guess into the region.

If you are told the password, it's fine. If you guess/hack the password it's not. If you are told the password and it's wrong, then it's a grey area (you've got to have good reason to believe them etc. and have a way to prove it if mods come checking).

Can I steal another player's nation?

No. This is fraudulent behavior and breaches the site's terms & conditions. The same applies to any attempt to impersonate another player, including attempting to hack nation or region passwords.

If you see someone trying to brute-force the regional password in the Regional Activity log, feel free to file a GHR. Do include the nation name, and perhaps a cut-and-paste of the attempts, in case it rolls off before we can act.

Note that one or two tries isn't a brute force password hack. That's typically either a typo or someone clicking into a new region and not noticing there's a password.

Edit: If you manage to charm the password out of a region by sneakiness, intrigue, or a sleeper agent, that's politics, not hacking. It's a political simulation game. A certain level of backstabbing is to be expected.

Odds are someone leaked the password, or the "new nation" was a puppet of an existing nation in the region who already knew the password to get in.
