Multi-Page Thread Printing

Postby The United Royal Islands of Euramathania » Mon Jan 23, 2017 7:50 pm

Hello. I am wondering if it is possible to print an entire thread using the print feature, especially ones spanning multiple pages. Right now when I attempt to print out a multi-page thread it only brings up one page at a time in the print preview. If this isn't something that is currently available I would like to suggest that it be added. I know I saw a few different threads for how to achieve this by modifying the server side code at phpbb forum. (Not sure if linking to other forums is permissible in technical, if so then I can edit the link in after) It would be really handy to be able to analyse the arguments across the entire thread before posting a reply. Especially on a complicated and nuanced topic.

Well, (on a mac) in the print preview, it only shows one page at a time, but if you click the arrow, (>) it should show you the other pages.
And, if you are analyzing a topic before posting a reply, at the bottom of the reply box it shows a small area of the topic you are replying to, where you can scroll up and down to view the arguments.

I mean using the Print Icon on the Top Right of the Forum so that everything is formatted nicely when I try to print it. On Multi-page threads is just generates the current page. And I am wondering if there is a way to specify that I want all the pages? Or if it would be possible to add that option to the forum.

I mean, if printing from the top right hand side doesn't work I would just try printing it the regular way, even though the regular way isn't all perfect anyway. Good suggestion tho. Hopefully it can be added in the game.

Not seeing anything in my version of the Admin Tools. There may be higher functions at the top level, or via code, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

We're due a new version of phpBB sometime - it's a major change, so no timelines are available. Don't ask. Maybe the update will have better choices. Maybe not. We don't control that.

I figured that it probably didn't exist as an option currently, thus the combined Question/suggestion :) . Thanks for looking though.
I did find a code modification In the phpbb mod forums (since no-mentioned that its not allowed I'll add them), but I am not sure its an issue that enough people have for them to roll into the major phpBB update. That means seeing if it is something that violet and the programmers will want to do. I still think that it would be a neat feature expansion especially to the GA and role players who might want to be able to markup a long thread to better understand it, or just figuring out what posts you want to quote from would be handy.

It's unlikely that the techies be doing any more code modifications prior to the upgrade to the new forum software. My understanding is that it is all of our previous add-ons (and wanting to preserve them) that is part of what's making the update take a bit longer than it would otherwise.

Continued bumping is unlikely to change that.
