The Story so Far...

It is the 9th Era of Conflagration, war has slipped across the nine continents of the world of Laancris and none have stood up to stop it. Vengeance and calls for further bloodshed to wipe out others beneath fists of iron and blades of steel has left Humanity a race ravaged by its own self-destructiveness. If this continues, a darkness creeping on the edges of civilization and kept at bay by the light of civilization may indeed come back, a savagery beyond any mankind has known since the 1st Era within the old realms of the Galaryn Empire. Few know of its name and even less of what it is. The Corruption.

Already, in the last few years the furthest nations of mankind have begun to go quiet on the fringes of the world theatre. Overlooked by the lords and ladies of the realm, too taken up in their petty rivalries and squabbles, it has been determined that something must be done to bring Humanity’s strife to an end, and reunite it once more against an ancient evil. Palatinus, the Order of Heroes. It’s nothing more than a name, a legend of the days from before the first Galaryn Empire was set in place. Heroes of epic and mythical proportions who could use the elusive magics of the wilds of Laancris.

Now though, its name runs once again, the lifeblood of the poor, bringing hope to the lands ravaged and left destitute by the greed and abhorrent violence of Mankind. Whisperings of it in the dawn leave it surging forth as the battle cry for the widows and orphans of this war-torn land. A cry for help, a plea for mercy, and perhaps more importantly a prayer of hope. Brought forth from the kingdoms of the world, summoned from the corners of the lands of Laancris, those deemed worthy of the title of Palatinus now gather at the edge of a wood forgotten to time and men.

Ilvacrest, wood of the ancients and home to the Faefulk of Laancris, now houses the new headquarters to the fledgling order of heroes, set up in desperation from the eldest and wisest of mortals at the behest of a Faefulk and Dwarven committee. While the Magic runs strong in the people of the forest and the men of the earth, none have ever managed to face The Corruption and return from its embrace alone. Those whom have gone to find it never return, while Humans regularly can attest to having witnessed its foul black ichor with which it hangs over the lands it touches. Only together can the four races of Laancris hope to stand a chance against the foul plague itself.

It is you now, the Paladins of the Fae, the Unter, the Hyl, and Humanity - the Palatinus - whom must rise up and save us all in our time of need. Stop the spread of The Corruption. Bring it to an end and restore peace to our world. Only then may the specter of death and darkness which has lapped at our heels for so long leave us and forever be vanquished. Together, with the People of the Forest and the Men of the Earth may Laancris rise up and become Pure once more. Let Wars end and Striving cease, let peace flourish. In the name of the Five, so too may we rise.

A world made up of various realms and landscapes, Laancris features the massive plains and steppes of the Hylfulk, the Ilvacrest of the Faefulk, the Ironcrest Mountains of the Unterfulk, and beyond the known lands lies those touched by The Corruption and whom live without the Light of Laancris.

A younger race in the Realm of Laancris, it is perhaps best explained as having first appeared suddenly from the wastes beyond the lands of the Hylfulk. The first of mankind warred to great extent over rights to the rare oasis and fertile lands found in the arid northern regions, but quickly moved past and into the plains and hills and swamps that now house their kind in great number.

Laancris’ only seafaring people, Humanity quickly managed to settle itself into place within the greater lands of Laancris and founded the First and Second Galaryn Empires and the Dynasties they held. Even more important though are the tales, now only spoken of in hushed whispers by the noble and as bed time stories to the poor of those whom were beyond Human, who held the right to use the Magic of Laancris to vanquish the enemies of those whom would try to undo all that had been done.

A pleasant folk, taken with the wonderment of agriculture and drink, they are the undisputed champions of relaxation, the endless fields of verdant farmland framed by the rivers and aqueducts carved into the land for irrigation have lead to a complex and perhaps the most plentiful road network in the Realm. With so much traffic, the commonality of war and raiding parties is surprisingly low, but provocations from their neighbors can lead to generation’ long blood-feuds that can only be ended in feasting or marriage.

Due to a spoiled and rich diet, the Riverlanders tend to grow larger than their northern cousins, most ranging from 5 feet and eight inches to towering heights of six feet and five inches. Dark brown locks often complimented by notes of auburn or strawberry are oft seen amongst the Riverlanders though blond hair is also seen in commonality with the presiding race. Tan skin complimenting a predominantly outdoor lifestyle have given the Riverlanders a keynote darkness in comparison to their northern brethren.

[i] The ancient, the primordial, the timeless. The Faefulk have been around longer than even the Unterfulk can remember. With the oldest known member of the Faefulk having seen Humanity’s Second Empire come to rise almost forty generations ago, it is no small surprise that the Faefulk are respected by all whom meet them save for the more boisterous members of Hyl and Human society.

Powerful nature spirits affiliated with the more powerful Magic-users of the Faefulk have lend them a shadow of mystery and power. It is in the name of the Fae that many have died a note of warning not oft said about even the constantly warring factions of Humanity. To say that there has been palpable surprise that they reached out first to rebuild the ancient Order of the Palatinus is an understatement.

Often known to be highly skilled orators their usage of Magic greatly varies and they are the only known practitioners of the art of Shamanism being able to tap into the Spirit Realm and bring forth the Magic of ages past to aid in the present day through the use of Spirits.
The Elves are the very definition of the Fae’s great and immense power, the longest live and most commonly seen race among the Fae Collectives and counsels, the word of the Elves has long been considered to be law. The surprisingly human-like race features several defining difference, among them is jet black or silver-white hair tied to long wing-like ears that can oft grow a foot in length depending on the age of the Fae in question.

Without a doubt the smallest and among the more rare members of the Fae, the diminutive race of the Waeyuns have been rarely seen by outsiders to the Fae. More rare is it that you find one beyond the reaches of the Ilvacrest, the Waeyuns are something of a mystical race of green or golden-hued bipedal beings that vary greatly in shape and appearance. Often referred to also as sprites and faeries, the Waeyuns are known for their generally curious nature and oft can be seen engaging in different forms of merriment and ritual within their enclaves deep in the Ilvacrest.

They are not a timid folk in spite of their size and relative power, but for good reason. At the founding of the Ilvacrest Fae Collectives oh so long ago, the Elves attempted to wipe them from existence, only to be almost destroyed themselves. The Waeyuns are conduits for magic and natural energy in a way indescribable to anyone whom has never witnessed their raw power.
These shapeshifting members of the Fae are most commonly seen at the fringes of the Ilvacrest and are among the least populous members in spite of their generally observable number. Highly territorial, they act much like animals, but hold sentient thought and can oft be seen shifting in and out of their desired animal forms to converse with the other enlightened races. The disputes as to the true origins of the Druids varies greatly, from tales of the One of Land and the Holy Writ behind them, to the simply infusion of magic into a creature sometime long ago which lead to it raising up others like it as according to the Writ of the Druid.

Known to sleep within the cores of trees still living, or throughout the great and vast areas of livable land atop the Ilvacrest’s highest forest canopies, they are a curious race with little to no technological proficiencies or knowledge which has made them also a feared race to trifle with. Simple minds understand only simple concepts, and so too is their law simple. Let none reap rewards from your land but you and your kin. Let none take what is yours and take none of what is theirs. Protect your land with your heart, mind, and soul to protect the Ilvacrest. Kill all whom would violate these rules. The rangers of the Ilvacrest hold no sympathy for poachers or loggers alike.
The legendary creatures of the ancient stories, the ancients are a race of plantlike natives to the Ilvacrest that are responsible for its safeguarding from the natural disasters and unnatural calamities that might approach it. There is little in the way of true Ancients left as most of the old ones have gone on the ‘journey’ and have entered hibernation. Only three awakened ancients are known to be wandering right now, with two of the three in agreement and membership with Palatinus.

Lesser ancients are much more common, oft taking plant-life forms to blend in with the fauna and flora of the Ilvacrest, they go by a great many other names and are incredibly potent magical combatants. Seen as guardians to the sacred groves and retreats within the Ilvacrest and throughout the Realm of Laancris, these Lesser Ancients are powerful forces of nature and magic that can eliminate even the most potent of foes, if used correctly.

Massive and sprawling plains gave birth to the beastlike races of the Hylfulk. Sporting typically Humanoid appearances, their extended canine teeth, large animal-like ears, and their dexterous tails have given them a feral appearance. The first adversaries to Humanity, they suffered greatly at the hands of the warlords of Humanity until the founding of the First Galaryn Empire under which they managed to rise to prominence alongside the Faefulk and the Unterfulk. Magic, though running strongly through their veins, is a crutch to them whom have athletic superiority in the world of Laancris. Their generally healthy and long lives far outpace Humanity’s own, but their lack of separation from their emotions leaves them a dangerous liability in fights where they have become enraged without self-control.

Growing anywhere from six feet seven inches to seven feet two inches, the behemoths that make up the Hyl are those that are most experienced in the arts and trades involving the hands. From blacksmithing, to crafting to hunting and every other base industry, the Hyl, while hardly industrious, are capable. The long traditions lead within their Clans have given them great advantage in maintaining territorial autonomy from Human nation states over the years and have lead to the ultimate design of their current oligarchical hegemony. They have no designated homeland nor capital. Their centralized government is weak and consists of easily fractured alliances.

In the end, the Hyl make up the second most populous race in Laancris and their great versatility and the many differences between the various Hyl have led to a colorful and boisterous nomadic culture that compliments the Northern spirit nicely. Their lack of general practice with weapons leaves most at a disadvantage when their enormous natural arm reach cannot benefit them and their preference to fight without armor to best allow for optimal superiority oft gets them killed, but those that have mastered the art of fighting unburdened are a true sight to behold. Those races of the Hyl unable to fight adequately make an exception to the rule however, most of these being semi-settled clans and houses within the Hyl lands and their outer extents featuring more modernized means of fighting with swords and shields.

The Taurenese are a special race of Hyl, featured within the Hyl Lands as one of the few non-predatory species, the Taurenese feature strongly bovine accents, long protruding horns from the top of their heads coupled with generally broad and flattened faces and long protruding ears. Seen most often in hues of red, pink, black, or blue, the Taurenese make up a key example as to what the Hyl without, can do with. Growing massive in size, they are incredibly powerful fighters, often wielding weaponry in battle many times the size of their comrades and being perfectly capable of handling it too, with a little magical augmentation of course.

The Ironcrest Mountains are a place of Mystery and the undisputed center to where Magic holds its origins. The reclusive and elusive Unterfulk, long-lived Men of the Earth have garnered to themselves a reputation for being powerful masters of Magic. Being those whom first imparted upon Humanity’s heroes, the Palatinus, the ability to harness and use the Magic of Laancris, they are often revered by those knowledgeable in the old ways. Having risen to prominence as one of the defacto ruling classes over the swarms of Humanity in the First and Second Empires and with three of the Twelve Legendary Paladins of Galaryn’s Court being Unterfulk.

Later, the Unterfulk fell from common knowledge at the rising of the Third Galaryn Empire, the claim for the crown being far too disputed to become involved. Cold and impassive, they are Humanlike in all but their solid-tone eyes and their pale skin featuring fair complexions and long-limbs, they have been known to surface from time to time in the outer regions of the Third Empire’s once expansive territories, leading raiding parties on settlements attempting to push past the barriers erected within the heart of the Ironcrest.

Built powerfully with extremely dense muscle and bone mass, the Unterfulk are among some of the most feared magic-users in the realm of Laancris and those trained in the usage of the special ‘Living Armor’ of the Unter become terrors on the field of battle. A great many stories have often recounted the great feats of the ancient Unterian Palatinus as they wielded shields and armor of living armor and had cleaved through the masses of the Corruption long ago, unfettered and emerged unscathed. Magically adept in the art of controlling earth and its metalloids, the Unter are also incredibly capable mechanics and machinists, making great iron-cast works, the sophistication of which lies a great many years in advance of where it should likely be.

Capable and willing to develop new weapons of war and destruction, their massive stone labyrinths and gateways to the Ironcrests are a breeding ground of the ideas of the Unter, their machinations and cunning devices left parked by the wayside tempt the curious to wander near to their deaths while the intelligent know to avoid these. Unterian goods and iron are sold across all of Laancris and the Unterfulk singlehandedly hold a monopoly on all Iron exports, but their lack of proper agriculture since Humanity invaded their homelands many thousands of years ago, have left them dependent upon interaction with Humanity from time to time.

Seen as stoic, strong, and standing at a man’s height while weighing more than three times so, the differences in the Unterian sub races comes, not from their true physical appearance, but from their bloodlines and their magical affinities alongside their house and social standing. Running a highly regulated caste society nestled into a constitutional monarchy, the Unterian government is fast and efficient, streamlined to only include the House Clan members to speak for the will of their homes and their families in a semi-direct democracy as the Unterian royals decide on what is best for the houses within subjected reason.

House Kerrak is the ruling house of the Unter and takes sole part in leading the Unterian Houses within the Ironcrests, their increasing relations with the Human neighbors of the Ironcrests have left many of the older generations and houses wary of their intentions for the Ironcrests while many young members of the Unterfulk can only help but be excited for the new economic and cultural impacts that such transactions and affiliations can bring. The leader of the House in the stead of the recently late Unter-Kyne Rashimirr is Unter-Kyne Lizra, a reputed economist and businesswoman capable of negotiating with even them most hard-headed of merchants, but it is unknown how well she will fair against the politico ad the deception of the economic world, where so much more is at play than simply money.

The Realm of Laancris is large and varied and features a grand host of nations and factions that run across the geography, changing and shifting the party lines constantly. The many locales and places of Laancris oft are large and expansive and encompass a great any locations and landmarks. To aid in navigation and recollection as to certain events, as well as to forewarn others of the dangerous conditions that may affect the various paths and roads laid out before them, cartography has become a booming industry. Many well-trained, and some not-so-well-trained cartographers and surveyors have been contracted by the many dozens of governments and corporations interested in knowing the lands around and within their reach.

The many religions of Laancris are varied and vast encompassing al from ritualistic sacrifice to daily flagellation and including trinities, polytheistic pantheons, or even monogamous belief systems not unlike our own world. The many different races and their many different beliefs on how they came into the world have lead ultimately to this rise in religion and culture promoting all things from prostitution to murder to thievery and much more for some, while instituting a rigorous lifestyle of self-discipline and control in the face of chaos.
A religion developed by the Fae and the Unter to describe where their origins come from, it revolves on the tale of the four 'gods' of order and the one god of chaos that attempts to undo everything they build.

Ever since society, there has been language, and with language came intelligence and the ability to share intelligence and likewise knowledge through a single solid medium. Writing, or literature is common within the Arts, but is not exclusive. Featuring a rich literary and artistic background, the many chroniclers, bards, and historians of Laancris's Palatinus have begun to bring together the largest private library ever, and are within the process of amassing the completed works of the Great Prophets of the Five and other grand religious and cultural artifacts and works of art completed in the past as well as those being completed right now.
Image

Literature is the foremost common form of historical chronicling of the exploits of a great many persons or nations. Used as the primary entertainment medium for many, books in this world are relatively cheap in spite of general rarity due to an overabundance of paper from the Ilvacrest, a place ripe with wood for the harvesting. Many of the longer-lived races have little to do other than copy scrolls and books for the majority of their lives and thus live within the Libraries of Laancris. Libraries are dedicated Orders and nigh-independent organizations that litter the Realm, many featuring their own privatized security detachments from local cities or factions. They are harbor to the grand scripture of the various holy works housed beneath their roofs and there is little that can be done to remove one of the treasured books of a library without receiving harsh reprisal or punishment. Many are lucky to leave with their lives if even that much.

The Writ of Five

'The earliest known tales of our world come from a group of divine beings known only to us as 'The Five'. They were made of One of Land, One of Water, One of Fire, One of Wind, and One of Darkness. Before them all was One of Life.

He who was the One of Life was He whom began everything. His arms reached out and created life without form. So then existed Spirits.

Of Spirits he made the other Four whom stayed with him, and One of Darkness which left him. Broken-hearted, One of Life began to slowly die.

One of Water turned to One of Land and said 'Let us speak with One of Life. His Spirit is weakening, and he may leave us unable to carry on.'

One of Land agreed and brought together the other two before One of Life. One of Life was understanding of His children and smiled.

'Let not your visage be downcast, for I've lived here in timeless eternity. To give in order to know, the joys of life, is my final calling. I have known it.'

To the Four he smiled and reached out his hand to lay it upon the Firstborn of the Five he’d made. One of Water, his head being touched, was given the power to speak life. From his mouth poured the fish of the sea and the rivers.

To the second-born, He reached out his hand and touched the hands of One of Land. Before him was molded the mountains and the valleys and the trees. The power to give life to everything he created with his hands gave way to the world we live in.

Everything lay in darkness still yet, and so as One of Life reached to touch One of Fire, he instead settled upon One of Wind’s thighs. His voice now growing weak, One of Life barely whispered his blessing upon One of Wind. So too was the wind to be, quiet and invisible as perceived in the great void, but with power great enough to make the others tremble in his wake.

To the One of Fire, the One of Life now barely breathing gave what he could to bestow light. From the stars in the night to the blaze of Grasion in the day, Fire would chase away the unknown with knowledge and power unending.

To his last breath though, One of Life called out with a loud shout, bringing forth from the retreating shadows his prodigal son. Unable to look the father in the eyes as One of Life reached out, there was but a moment of pain between creator and creation before Darkness could bear it no longer.

‘My son, my son. You have forsaken me to my death.’

Tears in eyes, One of Darkness stepped forward and did what none other had done. Holding up his father, the last breath leaving One of Life’s lips, he breathed back into the creator his essence. One of Life opened his eyes long enough to see what had been done and could only shake his head in shame.

‘Death is not to be touched in such a way, lest it effect you too. To you my son, whom felt no fear of it, I give you command over that which I could not control. Its weight shall be the same as all whom left before me, and all whom leave after. May that which is unknown and foreign lie with you my son. Bold and tenacious. Reach out your hand over me and take back what is yours. This is your place, this is your gift.’

‘Surely father, no gift would require the touch of a son to kill his own father. For what shall I do but be named a rebel in the eyes of my siblings? What is there to do to protect me from the mighty waves of Water, or the Beasts of Land, or the Storms of Wind, and the flames of Fire?’

‘Stand tall my son, for I give you what was given to all. I gave you power over life with death. Find balance in knowing you must use both. Find balance in knowing the secrets of Spirit. You alone may do so, for you alone are he whom will restore the worlds to what it was meant to be.’

With his final breaths, Life embraced Darkness and bestowing back upon One of Darkness all that had been given, he slipped beyond the reach of Darkness and entered the unknown.

From the earliest days of the realm, not only did light exist, but so too did darkness. Darkness all-powerful and overbearing that it would take not one, but many fighting to push it back. So too in recognition of this did the people of Laancris band together and form their own governments. Many have risen and fallen over the years and through countless battles and unimaginable suffering and bloodshed do we finally come to the nations of Laancris today.

Five regions make up the majority of the Realm of Laancris, each and every region has its own unique political and cultural values:
Image

Generally considered by most to be where the heart of the Human civilization and domination of the Realm of Laancris originated, the Remnants of the Galaryn Empire still are alive and kicking today, though mostly involved in petty political squabbles amongst themselves. Gone are the days where they would march to war for months and engage in combat with the men of the Valleys further to the North, rather now they savor the taste of naval conflict, raiding, and the occasional political assassination and coup to keep things interesting within the sub-states and counties under their control. Best described to players as being Europe in the Middle Ages, the practice of Magic is highly regulated and reserved for only nobles and distinguished battlefield commanders and champions.

The First Galaryn Empire

Born at the founding of the First Era in 0.1E, the Galaryn Empire was an Oceanside federation of humans united under the banner of the leading house of Humanity which also fell under the rule of the defacto leader of the Order of Palatinus. Brought together in response to the threat of The Corruption, the First Galaryn Empire allied with the Fae and the Hyl to bring about an early victory for the Light. War, virtually gone from the mortal realms with all focused-on defeating what last vestiges of traceable Corruption there had been, now came to a strange impasse at the cessation of the fighting. Economies born on war profit and trade and conquest in retaking the lands of the Corruption would soon stagnate with no demand if none could be provided. While some declared against the atrocities committed by either side in the name of victory, the clearer minds of men above saw through the brutalities of war and sought peace.

In the name of Galaryn the First of His Name, the Galaryn Empire of the Fae, Hyl, Unter, and Human Races, so too was the new Empire founded and an Imperial Dynasty of legend was born. A golden age for Human expansion and trade, so too did technology advance as did knowledge in the Magical arts. This would not last forever however as soon enough Galaryn’s direct lineage died off to time and joined the heroes of old in the afterlife, the Empire would face a new challenge it would ultimately lose too. It would take nearly two hundred years and seven generations for the Empire to fall back within pre-Galaryn limits and eventually diminish into nothingness at the borders of the Superstates of Iri and Do.
By the year 480.1E, the First Galaryn Empire was gone.

The Second Galaryn Empire

No sooner had the First Galaryn Empire died off, did the new spring up, but this time spouting a new agenda far different from the Empire of Peace, now known as the Dove Dynasty. This time, led by a member of the House of Lod, one of the final remaining Houses belonging to the Order of Palatinus, the Second Galaryn Empire quickly rose to power as a military force to be reckoned with. Leading a force of less than five thousand against the superior armies of Iri, the Second Galaryn Empire managed to defeat the forces of Iri at the Desolation of Iri-Tol Lagok Mal, a dense network of canyons buried within the plains of Lagok Mal to the South of Iri. Of nearly 200,000 men who marched into Lagok Mal under Irian Commander Tol, less than 19,000 would leave alive.

Within five years of constant conquest and warfare, the Second Galaryn Empire would come to be known as the most formidable fighting force in Laancris, using Magic and superior tactics to defeat the Superstates of Iri and Do and push to the Coastlines to absorb the entirety of Sho-Ragon’s Peninsula and the Western Seaboard of the Mirantic Sea. Few states would remain standing over the course of the nearly five hundred years and nineteen generations encompassing almost four Eras of Conflagration and an Era of Solace, and in the end the Galaryn Empire would fall to its original failings in being a state led to expansion through war and not trade. Having risen in 483.1E, at its success during the Desolation of Iri-Tol Lagok Mal, the world calendar was sent into the second era leaving the fall of the second Empire to happen around 899.1E, or 416.2E.
Between the rise of the Third Galaryn Empire and the fall of the Second, the nations of the world would rise and fall in similar fashion from before. Born of war, the blood-stained banners of the warlords that claimed their sovereignty over their lands and the lands of their neighbors would fall to others. No victor, wreaking havoc and destruction on the land. It is well known that many of the nations have been directly opposed to conflict in the first place, but continue to fight, pressed on by unknown forces as the Corruption has continued to grow. Darkness covered the lands of a great many areas before the advent of the Third Galaryn Empire in 846.2E.

The Third Galaryn Empire

As the warring states that once made up the heartlands of the First Galaryn Empire continued to fight, thousands would die to needless bloodshed. It wouldn’t be until the peace accords that would set the foundation for the third Empire that Laancris would see the rise of the House Lod once more. Living their last five generations in almost complete exile, in the year 846.2E, the House of Lod made its move on the ancient Galaryn capital of Galarhelm. An ancient fortress that had been standing for almost two thousand year, the House of Lod used ancient manuscripts preserved from the time of its construction to infiltrate and oust the rulers of the city and claim it for their own. Almost overnight, the world would change again as the Third Galaryn Empire with the assistance of the assets of the Houses of Lod and Shyrrn, would wage open war on their ancient enemies in Do, Kyn-Kir, Sol-Kovol, and Haga’Rol.

The Empire now stands to make a massive power grab in the North given the chance, the small parcel of untamed and unclaimed wilderness to the East Lake Kalyn could serve as the new focal point for Imperial colonization and eventual annexation of the surrounding areas. Gifted with a strong trade agreement with the Fae and the Unter and general acceptance amongst its current member states, the Third Galaryn Empire stands to have a decent hope of regaining the lost glory of its first iteration, if not more.
Ancient allies to the House of Lod and the Protectors of the Sacred Isle of Kol, Shyrrn clanmates have long since been known for their formidable combat prowess and having fought long and hard against enemies such as Do, Miran, Kyn-Kir, and Haga-Rol, they feature a highly-militarized state similar to Earth’s own Fascist governments. Speaking out against the ruling House (Shyrrn) is considered forbidden and an act of Treason leading to a highly zealous, if not paranoid, culture behind the Shyrrn militancy.
Now considered a proxy state for the Third Empire, it is well-known that members of the House of Lod seized the ancient Galaryn Capital and made it their own many years ago. The House of Shyrrn firmly planted as allies to its north, the House of Lod takes part in politicking with the other great kingdoms and leaders of the realm of Laancris, maneuvering its way deftly into may peace talks and gaining constant exposure throughout the world, in spite of its generally removed location.
Kovol is a large open land, filled with tribes of wandering Hyl and Human alike, it is a dangerous place to live. The advent of mass immigration of predatory animals following the hordes of cattle and rish from the north have forced many of the local tribes to begin hunting for newer and safer lands to the west.
The ancient kingdom of Do is a well-known name among the people of Laancris, sporting the Gilden Banner, the people of Do are highly commercial and consumerist. Industry within Do, constantly fueled by wars between its neighbors and their enemies and Doish conflicts with the Galaryn Empire have brought their wealth to new heights. The tyrant of Do, a man whom seized control in a mad-grab for power at the Black Meet years ago, is an enigmatic figure of which little is known.
Power and the ocean, two words which every Miranese citizen learns to understand entirely from birth, Miran features one of the most powerful navies in the world, being able to even fend off the horde-like fleets of the Empire to its north and the Houses to the south. It is highly mercantile and militarized, featuring as much death and bloodshed in its wake as it offers gold before it. The government of Miran is often considered to be one of the most corrupt, those in public positions of power use it to spoil their favored businesses with thousands of gold pieces in subsidy and gifts. Even the military of Miran features a large number of mercenary units which fight for Miran for bounty and have been known to wipe out entire villages to ensure a victory over a foe.
Ancient homeland of the House of Lod, Kol is the protectorate of the Houses of Lod, Shyrrn, and the Third Empire. It features some of the oldest known Imperial structures left from the First Empire over a thousand years ago and yet, constant raids on its shores have kept many from living long enough to determine what the hundreds of thousands of runes -carved into the ancient stonework- mean. A small nation both in land and population, the Isle of Kol is run by the House of Lod and its clans beneath it.
The sister nation to Miran in both name and in purpose, this highly mercantile island is one of the few nations in the world that has no quarrel with anyone and has maintained a degree of peace in recent years. Maintaining constant trade routes between the North and South coast countries, the traders of Mirin are among the most learned of merchants in the world and their culture is one of the most acceptant of the Unter, Hyl, and Fae among the ranks of Humans.
An ancient land of hills and mountains, there is only one settlement on this island which acts as a retreat for the House of Lod and their final resting place as it houses the family catacombs. There is no war in these tranquil lands, at least not yet.
Homeland of the Fae, not much more is known except this. It is protected by exceptionally powerful wards along all of its border and the failure of thousands to pierce any place within the wards has been noted, but the occasional stray does slip through.

A veritable treasure trove of ancient ruins and lost cities, the green grasslands and rolling hills of the Riverlands stretch on for miles, the few waterways that cross its verdant patchwork of farmland and wilderness remain relatively unfettered with commercial traffic, most simply electing to use any of the hundreds if not thousands of bridges that work their ways across the waterways that are too deep to generally ford. Home to the vineyards and orchards of Laancris so too does it withhold within the hills ancient ruins marked with runes far more ancient than either the Fae, or the Unter, can remember.

House Ran-Kov’Rok is an ancient place filled with occult worship and ruins from before the time of Humanity. A primarily reclusive Human nation, it is known that the citizenship of the nation of Ran-Kov’Rok are subject to heavily authoritarian rule beneath the Council of Nine, a group of elders from among the Nine Ruling Houses of the land of Ran-Kov’Rok.
A densely populated and fertile expanse, farmland fills the eyes for miles around at the heart of the massive state with the large forest to the south providing apt industry for lumber and hunting and fishing. Sporting a well-trained military, the forces of Acresia have long since been lauded for their incredible discipline and near fanatical zeal for war in spite of living in one of the most peaceful places in the world, leading constant preemptive raids on nomad tribes in Kovol to prevent the raiding of Acresian lands.
The farmlands of Larain have long since been known to also house some of the world’s most notable vineyards and likewise the best wine. While having maintained a generally low profile across the world, constant raids from Kovol have decimated many of its smaller villages leaving its vital infrastructure weak and unsupported in recent times. Poverty rips across the once rich nation and fighting breaks out often among the masses within the cities at a whim.
The embarrassment of the Hoses of Shyrrn and Lod, Haga’Rol proves to be the toughest nut to crack perhaps in the realm, a small nation under constant attack and sporting one of the smallest armies, their in-depth knowledge of the land and the lay of the area has given the advantage in every battle fought. Sieges often going nowhere, the dense catacomb-network of caves and tunnels in the shore side nation often stretching hundreds of miles inland and rendering traditional means of blockade and besiegement useless.

Home to the foothills of the Wilderness, and the jagged crags of the Ironcrest Mountain Range, the Ironcrests are known for being home to the Unter. Filled with the full extent of their devious machinations and protective wards, the Ironcrests have proved to be a rough place to settle without the permission of the Unter. Nevertheless, Man and Hyl have managed to overcome all odds and now dwell across the Northern stretch of Laancris, in spite of the best efforts of the Unterfulk. Incredibly rich in ores and minerals, the wealth of the Ironcrests can best be said to reflect the wealth of Laancris.

The Ironcrest Kingdom is the only place known to have a true king. While the Third Empire is known to be among the most organized of Human states, the Ironcrests have held their power and sovereignty for longer than even the Fae can remember. A refuge and place of sanctuary for the People of the Earth, the armies and the cities of the Unter within the Ironcrest are known for sporting impressive metal contraptions and their constant warfare with the vanguard of The Corruption have given them ample time to prepare and assess the threat that comes from the wildlands to the North.
Lands belonging to the Unter, these are the homes to the primary iron and steel refineries in the Realm, the most skilled of Blacksmiths live here and work from the hundreds of smithies and workshops founded throughout the expansive cities in the Ironfields. War with the Tolanese have led to the usage of Ri-Tol Shamalan cities as respites for Nil-Tolan traders and merchants looking to evade capture or detainment by Tolan soldiers and mercenaries along the Southern roads. Constantly warm with a heavy overhang of soot and ash, the ironfields of Ri-Tol Shamal are an impressive sight of both Unter and Human artisanship and handiwork, spewing flames from the almost hundred foot high furnace tops which are kept constantly alight with a source of coal brought in from the mountains to the North.
The plains of the Unter-folk, Ri-Kari Shamal is an expansive land of many races, with the smithies of the Unter working alongside the jewelers of Humanity and the Fae and the powerful and warlike demi-Humans of the Hyl, it is the richest area in the realm. Lacking a true army, its strength is its commercial ability to cripple nations at will and provide their enemies with all of the resources needed to crush them. At odds with the Hyl of the Hyl Lands, there has been a shaky agreement between the two since the rediscovery of The Corruption by Hyl scouts and nomadic tribes wandering the Wildlands to the north.

Image

The grandiose and rolling plains and steppes of the Tolan-Iri Valley have led to the creation of a vicious cycle of war and death, the majority of all battlefield deaths in the last thousand years having been inflicted either upon or by the Tolan-Iri. Rivers run red with blood at the sounding of horns and the ground shakes with the thundering of the hooves of the great horse and land drake mounts streaming over the rocky tundras and barren expanses of scrub and short-grass. Were it not for the resilient and meaty rish in the area, most would be unable to make a living and have to leave their luck to the few brave farmers out in the Valley.

An ancient superstate, it was formed from the agreement between Iri and the people of the Tolan Wood that attempts to maintain order over the area would be nigh impossible. Iri, weakened at the time by fighting with the Second Empire released Tolan to its own whims and as a result the ruling family came to power, the House Tolan (aptly named) which now lies in control of one of the largest nations of Humans in the World.
Once the northern section of Tolan, it gained independence in the Tolan Civil War and managed to hold its own against the forces of the Tolan en masse, using superior tactics, leadership, and knowledge of the land to carry out a long war of attrition through guerilla warfare. Constant fighting and sporadic seizure of cargo and cities along the borders with Tolan have kept Nil-Tol in a state of near-constant aggression since its founding over two hundred years.
Split by the Iriite Civil War a generation ago, both nations still feature broken cities and destroyed infrastructure along the borders, massively impacting the effectiveness of their own economic output in having to try and bolster those lands while carrying on the occasional odd skirmish with raiding parties from Tolan or the Hyl Lands. Featuring the warring family of Iri, there has been much division since the death of the senior leader of the House of Iri as the successor was not named of the two twins until after the patriarch had already died. Chaos and darkness now spread like wildfire as agents of The Corruption are said to be in the area.
A land of massive bluffs and forests, the Hyl-folk are powerful beast-like demi-humans of a great variety. The Hyl Lands have the highest population in the world, with almost half of a million individuals being present. The armies and nomadic raiders of the Hyl and Humanity have long since harassed their neighbors in all directions and now face attack from The Corruption which has spurned their newfound alliance with the Unter. Featuring a do-or-die mentality, the fearless members of the Hyl are world-known for their powerful minds, bodies, and hearts.
Site of the Fae-Human Covenant, this ancient land is named in the old tongue for ‘The Promise of Galaryn (Shogoth as was his given name by the Ilva, or Fae). It is one of the most diverse nations in terms of not only wealth, but also race and purpose. It is known to be the jewel of Laancris in spite of recent disputes with Iri and the Hyl Lands and the Ilva regularly send envoys to report to the Council of Viras Mal-Shogoth. Suffering from some poverty, the people of Viras Mal-Shogoth are hardy and happy, drinking being one of the great past-times and beer being one of the most notable exports from this beautiful agrarian nation.

Covered in lakes and rivers and an almost constant shroud of fog and mists, the lands of the Nilreach are as mysterious and foreign as the Wilderness itself. Fortresses built long ago as a means of protecting the few settlers once present stand abandoned to time and hardship. Of the few settlements and cities that remain, their sole purpose for existence is the combating of The Corruption, challenging other nations, and attempting to stand guard against the ancient threat to the East that supposedly once drove Humanity from its homeland far on the other side of the planet.

The Kingdom of Intun is actual no more than a group of gathered Human Nomads whom finally settled down within the last hundred years. Under constant attack from their neighbors in the Irikat forest and the Hyl Lands, Intun has garnered itself a powerful reputation as being a place for strength and defense. Featuring the Steel Glove as its national symbol, the ruling House of Varner rules with a similarly iron fist. Potential for spies is rooted out with notably archaic, but still effective methods while the armies and slaves of Intun work day and night to build the Wall of Varner, a massive construct to be built along the border of the Wildlands and Intun and hopefully to soon one day enclose the entire nation.
The forest state of Irikat is hardly anything more than a collection of Faefulk villages far from the Ilva. Living as renegades and rebels, hiding from the long-arm of the Ilvan Legal System, the Irikat have only recently become recognized as a nation within the last ten years, the ruler being an ancient Fae Meister named Li-Vao.
The nation of Vagan is one of the more capable of the Northern nations, reflecting the Houses of Lod and Shyrrn to the south as it has been in constant conflict with its neighbors and The Corruption for the last few years. It is unknown why they fight or even exist, but what is known is that this nation is highly isolationist, few ever being allowed to enter deep into the nation for unknown reasons. Protected from attempted invasion on all sides by the Jirol Wood, the Vaganese are known for being incredibly potent marksmen and fighters.
Age old enemies to the isolationist Vaganese, they are among the foremost recognized military states in the world in spite of the recent bouts with poverty they’ve been forced to deal with. The ruling house of Mishre (The House Mishre itself), has great personal wealth in the form of massive herds of cattle and rish which they yearly run down the coastline to the Third Empire’s expansive trade cities and networks where the money works its way back eventually to their coffers. Subsidizing their military with their own personal funds, the Mishre supposedly know what lies within the secretive nation of Vagan, but refuse to say what it is for fear of attracting the attention of competitors.
Moreover an expanse of near-barren swamp and marshland along dense forests and rocky fields and plains, the Northwatch is a cold and dreary place to most, with the primary industry being the army and fishing. Sporting one of the largest militaries in the realm, they often move to fight with the forces of The Corruption, never being attacked strangely enough by the Vaganese or House Mishre. In recent years, the population and trade output has begun to falter as agents of The Corruption are thought to have infiltrated the government to one of the highest orders.
The Lakeside Human nation of Kalyn is a small and weak nation, but surprisingly enough it is generally left alone in spite of its neighbor’s seemingly intense warlike intentions. Rumors of agents of the Corruption existing there are nil and while many enter its borders, fewer seem to be leaving every day. It is unknown whom rules Kalyn, only that they do indeed rule. The armies of the Kalyn are small, but professional and generally act as police forces within the small cities of Kalyn. It is unknown if they will rise and fight The Corruption when the time comes due their secretive nature.

Excess OP Here [Player Information]

Postby Kassaran » Sun Jan 22, 2017 8:27 pm

FAQ & Rules
This is the place in the OP where you'll find the questions that are most likely to be asked or have been asked the most in the OOC and have been added as seen fit by myself, the OP.

What are Palatinus?

Palatinus are the official name for Paladins, or warriors of the Realm of Laancris. Paladins have generally proven themselves to be powerful, cunning, talented warriors with an affinity for magic. Usually, the title of Paladin is given to Humans, but it has also been known to carry over to exceptional Unter, Hyl, and/or Fae.

Do I have to wear big armor?

No, not all fighters will choose to use great big armor plates like you picture a Paladin would. Paladin here is just the title used to denote players and significant NPC’s of notable combat prowess.

Can I be a ninja?

Well, you’d be considered a Paladin still, but sure. If you feel you can create a believable character that would have been selected to fight The Corruption, then by all means go on ahead. All Paladins are different and there is no recommended or set play style. They are the heroes and champions of their homelands.

What is The Corruption?

A great unspeakable darkness which plagues the land of Laancris, though texts and tomes on the subject do not delve into it much deeper than that. Whatever it is, it’s enough to get the Unter the Hyl to work together.

Can two people be from the same homeland?

Sure, there’s no rules against it, in fact, I should probably make some rules eventually…

Where are the Dwarves?

Dwarves are the Unter, in the world of Laancris they’re actually tall as Humans, but built much more sturdily and they generally feature the pale skin of someone whom has never seen sunlight. Their teeth are generally massive too.

So Fae are the Elves?

Not exactly. The term ‘Fae’ denotes a large and widespread variety of Faery-type creatures and beings including, but not limited to, Elves, Gnomes, Druids, Centaurs, Treants, and much more. The Fae generally use Elves because these look the most Human and the Elves have also been the defacto race in charge of the Fae since time immemorial.

What are the Hyl?

The Hyl are part-beast, part-Fae. They basically are humanoid beings with animal-like features.

So the Hyl are Furries?

No, hardly. The term demi-human denotes a primarily human appearance, such as kemonomimi. They generally have animal-like tails, ears, teeth, and eyes. They are fast, strong, and smart and have been the foil to the nomadic Humans in their lands since their first meetings. For references, think Holo, Ahri, and other characters of the sort.

Can my character be a noble?

Well, typically nobles had the best schooling in medieval times when it came to fighting, I don’t see why they wouldn’t now and I especially don’t know why a nation wouldn’t send a noble to serve as one of the Palatinus.

Can my character use magic?

Yes and no. Magic, in this world, is not natural for Humans to use. Additionally, young Fae, Unter, and Hyl have difficulty using it effectively. The Order of the Palatinus was developed for those capable of fighting The Corruption to learn to wield and harness the near limitless power of magic while they were young and able.

Can my character be old?

While this is moreover an RP geared at introducing younger characters and heroes, Laancris has a great many older and skilled swordsman and fighters out there that most certainly could have been chosen to join the ranks of the Palatinus, but at the cost of learning the combat magic that will specifically help them in fighting the Corruption.

Can my character be really young?

Well, about the age of sixteen is generally when someone would begin fighting in the militaries and the armies of Laancris and the medieval times of our world. Anyone around 20-30 years old would certainly be an outlier, even though my own main character in this will be in that age range. I’d recommend not making anyone too young so as to leave them weak and open to damage or The Corruption.

How much of this campaign and the world will you be pulling out of your ass as we play?

Probably a lot. More than most for sure, but that’s the way of RPing, and besides, it helps to just build the world as you go along. Makes the whole experience far more entertaining, dynamic, and exciting.

What are the nation parallels?

Well, the places denoted as having Houses are more Asiatic in origin, the Nomadic humans of the North are more African or Middle Eastern, and everywhere else is just a European clusterfuck. Think High Fantasy as usual and you should do fine.

Are there dra-

Sh-shshshshshshsh. Only dreams now. Let’s get on with the rules and applications. Time for more questions will be later.

Rules

-I am the God of this world… for now. Co-Ops are also gods, but I’m big god. My word trumps theirs, their word trumps yours if you’re not one. This is the year of the Trump anyways…

-If we say no to an idea three times, you drop it. I don’t care how many more different ways you can explain wanting to give your character the ability to charm all of the things if I don’t want them to charm in the first place… Three different Op/Co-Ops saying no counts.

-For the gods’ sakes, please do some spellchecking and grammar checking. I get it if English isn’t your first language, exceptions can be made. However, if you plan to speak broken English, in Yoda format it must be.

-I shouldn’t have to say this because we should all be mature and responsible adults, but being in the Army has taught me that people forget that often, so I’ll say it here once: no name-calling. Just state the facts, without bias, without provocation, and slowly work the problem out. If it’s an opinion thing, don’t let it ruin the RP for you, just take it to TGs if it starts to heat up or other players feel you’re thread jacking.

-Post often. I’m requesting a paragraph a week, you will build up a deficit for however long you are away. Be prepared to fill in stuff. If you ever need help figuring out where to post or when to post or how to post, just ask myself or the Co-Ops, they likely have stuff for your character to do or ideas for something your character can say to make them relevant again in the RP and get you involved.

The Application

Nation Name: Put your Nation’s Name Here

Character Name: Put your Character’s Name Here

Gender: I’m not going to even try here. Just do what works best for you usually and we’ll carry on. I’ll just offend someone either way I go with this.

Age: Keep in mind my advice on what the intended age-range is. Somewhere in there should be good.

Race: Any one of the Four and then their sub-species if applicable (so looking at you Hyl and Fae players)

Nationality: Any one of the nations in the world work, unless they’re of Nomad tribes wandering Laancris.

Social Status: Definitely an important part of medieval times, and even more so in Laancris where your status gets you gold, training, and prestige.

Weapons and Technique: Don’t go too into details here, just state fighting style name and the typical ‘Role’ of your character here. It shouldn’t be more than three words to be honest: ie – Lanjin-Shoj Style; Tank

Description: Here is where you’ll have to be a little familiar with coding, if not, that’s okay. Put into the URL start tag the link to your character’s picture and then put inside the URL tags the physical description or just a short blurb containing their height and weight.

Short Bio: This is going on your Character Description for the OP. Make it short, make it sweet, think Twitter.

Backstory: Alright, now you can go crazy and start writing about all the crazy things and places your character has been and done. Also, go into specifics on their weapons and techniques and why it set them apart from standard swordsmen.

Roleplay Example: Only give this to me if you’ve never RP’d with me. If you have, I probably will remember you.

ID Code: Don’t touch anything here, this is for tracking purposes only.

Here is an example Application for those of you curious as to how this might look:

Palatinus- The Order of Heroes

Character Application

Nation Name: Kassaran (The [.nation] tags are optional, but they look nice.)
Character Name: Arphaeocus Luceirnan de Korviri
Gender: Male
Age: 31
Race: Human
Nationality: Galaryn Imperial Citizen
Social Status: Master Paladin, Lord of Korviri Estate and the Fief of Luceirnan and all of its assets and holdings.
Weapons and Techniques: The Great-Glaive of the House Korviri 'Regent', Kirin-Ji Fifth Form
Description: Born of the House Korviri, Arphaeocus is the six-foot tall leader of it's assets. A seasoned warrior, his piercing hazel eyes often lend him a hawkish appearance and in full armor, his physique, toned by years of warfare and competition becomes all that more pronounced. He sports a missing molar in the back of his jaw and magic-fire burns across his right side from his calves to his ribcage mark him for life as the victim to a rogue magician.
Short Bio: Lord of the House Korviri, its estate, the Fief of Luceirnan and all of its assets and holdings, and seasoned bannerman for the Galaryn Imperial Family, Arphaeocus is also is the leader of the Palatinus First Expedition as deemed worthy by the Council. For the last five years since a run-in with a rogue magician on the outskirts of the Ilvacrest, he has slowly been learning the ancient workings of magic, but uses it sparingly, preferring to test his mettle, his mind, and his body against those things that do not come easily.
Backstory: Born to Kynesgardmen and Lord of Korviri, Lord Abaracus Luceirnan de Korviri and the Fifth Magis Prime of the Third Galaryn Empire, Lady Mira Freinhel de Krys, Arphaeocus grew up as a member of a highly privileged noble family under the protection of the Third Galaryn Empire. Growing to become a skilled warrior and champion for his family's name (oft setting out on month's long expeditions to hunt down bandit camps with the family Gardsmannen or defend the honor of the family name), he became a prominent and well-known swordsman, but more intriguingly he became a master in the art of the Glaive. Studying from the time he was thirteen until he was almost twenty-eight, Arphaeocus became a master with the Great-Glaive and commissioned the construction of a special blade for his personal use utilizing Unterian Refined Iron from the Ironcrests. Taking over nine months to forge and perfect with8in the setting, the Great-Glaive was eventually delivered to Arphaeocus and now has become his signature weapon.

Under the close tuition and mentorship of Lord Kirin of the Nil Reach House of Kirin, an exiled Lord from the northern boglands of Laancris, he learned the Five Forms of Kirin-Do, an ancient Glaivemaster form built to espouse strength and precision with every blow of the massive polearm. Determining his own strength to be in thrusts and parries, he has adopted the mastery of Kirin-Do's Fifth Form as his own and now studies in it's total mastery and control, hoping to develop from it his own school of fighting as many of the great masters did before. Wielding alongside him the third family sword, 'Majesty's Whisper' he has begun to work on his mastery of this sword as well, but it serves little but as a fancy ornament on his side, the inferior iron ore mined from Southern bog-forges only pay credence and homage to the originality and resourcefulness of Humanity in Laancris while offering little in practical design. He carries little in the way of true protection save for the thin scale mail armor tunic and the padded leather trousers he wears beneath it.

Nope. The Ironcrests, but natives from there are the Unter, essentially human-sized dwarves.

So, your question deals with a warrior who sings primarily? I mean, I guess that could work. What you have to realize is that the term Paladin is reserved for the best of the best when it comes to fighting and they have been specifically chosen for their ability to fight and potentially use magic.

Palatinus- The Order of Heroes

Character Application

Nation Name: Sisquoc
Character Name: Suke
Gender: Male
Age: 27
Race: Human
Nationality: None
Social Status: Hyl Clansman
Weapons and Techniques: Smithed Claws, Stealth
Description: 6’5”, 170 lbs, Red hair, green eyes, slender figure and a permanent cocky grin.
Short Bio: Human that was abandoned at birth by his clan and taken into a Hyl family. The Hyl trained him and raised him into the man he is today. His ability to keep pace with the more experienced Hyl warriors is what brought attention to him.
Backstory: Suke was born in a small shack from parents of very low social standing. They were a part of a close-knit group of humans that were deep in Hyl territory. They knew that their group would not last much longer, so instead of making their son suffer through the loss of his clan, they took him deep into the woods and put him next to the river, knowing the banks would rise soon and take their son away. Before this had the chance to happen, however, Timeus Aapeli, a part of the many Hyl tribes that roamed the area, found the human child. He knew he was taking a chance of being cast out from his clan if he attempted to bring an offspring of man back to his village, but he knew he could not just leave the child there. In the end he decided to take the boy and raise him as his own.
Suke’s childhood was a very confusing one. He was not as fast or nearly as hairy as his brothers and sisters and he was missing certain… well let's just say he was a little different from those around him. He soon learned some of the tricks of the Hyl, such as how to move quickly and quietly, how to focus his reflexes in order to have lightning quick reflexes, and how to stay aware of his surroundings. He also learned how to fight expertly with smithed claws, bow staffs, and make potent poisons with a little bit of what his father called “elbow grease” and seemingly harmless ingredients. He trained for years with the various clans of the Hyl in order to learn their styles and their stratagem. He also became familiar with various, albeit weak (compared to the other magical abilities of his surrounding brethren) magics. He soon found himself sparring with some of the best known Hyl hunters and assassins. This is where the order noticed him, and this is where his journey began.
Roleplay Example: Suke awakens from his slumber in his all-too-familiar cot. He sits up and stretches, groaning happily as he turns and lets his feet hit the ground. He dons his over-worn leather gear and carefully places his bandanna across his nose before pulling his hood up. He does a quick check and then heads out, giving his parents a wave and shrugging on his bag
“Make us proud son” his dad calls out.

Need to fix up that app before I take it. Technique is specifically the name of the technique used to wield his clawed weapons.

Hyl don't have families, they have clans. They operate on a pack mentality, but I do like some of the parallels to Mogli that Suke could have.

Hyl also don't use the word tribe, that'd be a Human word for it. It can still be used here.

When explaining his reflexes, try rewriting it to something that isn't so repetitive. You use the word 'reflexes' twice for example and it's something of a run-on sentence (ironic coming from me, but still true).

His exceptional physical strength is allowed alongside his reactions due to his childhood. If someone was raised among magicians, then they'd likely have better knowledge of how to use it, but Humans tend to use the introduction of magic as a means of proving age. The Hyl however, use it all the time in hunting wild Rish and other large mammals of the Nilreach and Tolan-Iri Valley regions. Due to this, while he'd still be weak to fighting head on with a true Hyl warrior or hunter, he's more than capable of fighting the enemies that Palatinus will need him to soon enough.

I meant to tag this a couple of days ago but umm, didn't and so TAG.

Is that vague samurai idea I floated in the animu enclave still viable? If so where would such a person come from?

You're a bit vague about the Hyl's animal features. Do you mean that each Hyl has some features from a different animal (e.g. one guy's got goat eyes and horns, another guy's got scales and a forked tongue, etc.) or what?

Either way, I'm going to make a Hyl or Unter character.

Nilreach or the southern Riverlands. The riverlands are more of a sunny area while the Nilreach is shadowy and foggy all the time. And yes, I expect Samurai.

Yep, precisely. The demihumans that are the Hyl have no set features, they were created by the Deity One of Land.

Going to ask another question so I want to know when I'm designing my chara, which country in this RP is known for ninja assassins and samurai warriors?

So, I'll put this out there now, there's no specific country yet. The main thing is that most of the countries have been left generally open-ended for the sake of allowing players to develop world lore. Whatever they need to make the best possible Paladin-applicant. Now, here's the catch, there are certain aesthetic flavors to be aware of:

Humans generally use typical Human armor. Metal and leather and studs.

Unter use excessively heavy armor plates, but this is because they use a certain armor called 'living armor' which innately allows them to keep the metal in a semi-solid state for self-repair in battle. It takes a lot of magical focus and can be overwhelmed by lots of fast and damaging attacks.

Fae use whatever armor suits them best for their purposes. Elven, Gnomish, and other humanoids might use more human looking armor while Druids and Centaurs use the appropriate armor for their bodies and then have human armor for their torso and heads. Treants and such don't have that kind of access to metals and are decently well-protected. Treants include things like Spriggans and other plant-type spirits. Druids are shapeshifting Fae that can become animals, so using armor at all might not be recommended.

Hyl are extremely fast and have high agility and strength (they're also massive), but they have low magic-capabilities so they tend to use non-metalloids for armor and stick with leather and whatnot from hunting. They usually wear heavy robes or padding to avoid taking too much damage, but they also can wear lighter clothing to emphasize a more speed-type attack style.

Minroz, you should be looking probably at a Hyl or Human, as Fae and Unter see deception as being a Mark of Darkness. Humans innately view the dieties One of Darkness and One of Fire as being the patron saints for them, and the Hyl are natural-born hunters so sneaking is in their blood being predators by nature. Humans are smaller than Hyl, standing at the average 5'6"-6'1" while Hyl stand several heads taller at usually 6'7"-7'2". Humans are naturally resistant to Corruption though, while Hyl can be heavily affected by it and the Hyl's strength is limited to physicality, magic effects them as much as any human without proper warding, except wards don't work well for the Hyl because they innately have magic flowing through them already that runs into their bones and muscles.

I'll be making edits to the OP tomorrow ideally.

Until then, feel free to drop applications, I still need to put down some more lore, literature, and facts in the FAQ and whatnot for those of you looking to have basic questions answered (yes we have an FAQ).

Incomplete app.

Palatinus- The Order of Heroes

Character Application

Nation Name: Utceforp
Character Name: Gant Orouk
Gender: Male
Age: 44
Race: Hyl
Nationality: Clan Orouk, within the Hyl Lands
Social Status: Former Warlord
Weapons and Techniques: Gant carries a human two-handed sword in his right hand, and carries a large round shield on his left arm. Gant prefers to take advantage of his massive bull-like strength in combat, bashing enemies with his shield then bringing his sword arm down on them with a wide and slow swing. While he is scarily strong and thick-skinned, his heavy sword and shield slow him down and he has no magical abilities nor ranged weapons. As such he is at his most effective at the very front of any group, where he can use his immense size to act as a human (or Hyl, as the case may be) shield for his more fragile allies.
Description: 7 ft 2 inches, 250 lbs
Short Bio: Once a warlord and leader of Clan Orouk who conquered several other clans and routinely invaded and raided human lands. The death of his daughter in battle lead to him developing pacifist tendencies and he decided he was no longer fit to lead the Clan, leaving his young son to rule instead. He retreated to the woods to live the life of a hermit, before his son convinced him to go join the Palatinus.
