Hello all!

I just had a quick peek into the old archives and had a couple of questions.
It seems the old Flaming Wombat threads regularly reached 1000 pages (1120 in one instance), along with the early TET's, so I was wondering both when, and why, was the 500 page limit on all threads instated?

The limits were put in place because the YUUUUUUUGE threads were slowing down the forums and causing server errors.

We haven't had problems since limiting the size and asking people to link to the last iteration in the first post of the new thread.

I must ask, though, is the current limit of 500 pages an arbitrary cut-off, as opposed to the point where things start to break down?

It's semi-arbitrary. We cut some threads into 1000 page chunks, but still had load issues. When we halved them again to 500 pages, the load was acceptable. We really don't have tools that measure the number of nanoseconds it takes to load a 500 page thread as opposed to a 600 page thread.
