Preambles of the World

In law a preamble is "the introductory part of a statute or deed, stating its purpose, aims, and justification." For those nations that are constitutional, or merely have a public law or declaration stating something akin to a constitution or supreme law, the Aurensian Legal Society is extremely interested in collecting and ascertaining the various preambles of the states of the world.

The information collected will be stored by the Society for educational purposes and will be public domain listing. This collection is intended for increased civic involvement and interest among the general populations of the world.

Aurensian Preamble

LIFE, LIBERTY, AND PROPERTY are the necessary foundations upon which free society is laid, and it is only through the recognition and protection of this axiom that Good and Just government ought to be instituted among men; it is therefore that the People shall plant the seeds of Freedom, for perpetuity, in this Constitution for the Federation of their Commonwealths into a noble and peaceful union styled the Free Confederated Republic of Aurensia.

[The United Colonies of Earth]

Preamble of the Constitution of the United Colonies of Earth:

It has taken us two million years to leave the world that birthed us and much catastrophe, including the suffering of billions, the deaths of millions, and the collapse of the international system of governments. Through the fires we made, we reforged ourselves into a united species under the auspices of the United Nations, to be led into the stars. Yet this path did not lack for darkness or gloom; it was a path heavy with the footsteps of military control over democracy, the suppressing of political and civil freedoms, and the ruthless employment of force to impose an uncommon ideal upon the majority, causing great, avoidable, and reprehensible suffering.
For this, we, the inhabitants of the human homeworld and its’ colonies, had to rise up against a government determined to employ its’ instruments to mold us into the form it desired we take. For this, we, the people of Earth and its’ United Colonies, had to overthrow and destroy the United Nations. For this, we create a new government to defend the rights and responsibilities that have enabled us to prosper, and whose loss shall only bring great detriment and suffering to all humankind.
Thus we the people of the United Colonies of Earth declare our determination to ensure the survival and the happiness of all humankind, and as is our responsibility to the billions yet unborn, shall unite the galaxy of habitable worlds under a single government by, for, and of the people of the United Colonies of Earth.

[Tinhampton]

We, the people of Tinhampton, gathered here in City Hall on this Fifteenth Day of April, 1929, for the purposes of creating a devolved society which is just, free, secure and with restrictions on what the state can and cannot do (and what it will and will not have as devolved powers), hereby enacts this Constitution of Tinhampton.

United, we stand in celebration of the diverse voices that make up the great chorus of our nation. Confident in our individuality, and steadfast in our shared values and common purpose, we—the citizens of the Commonwealth of Grand Britainnia —have come together in the spirit of self-determination in order to establish the principles of our law and governance.

IN THE HOLY AND INFALLIBLE NAME OF THE ALMIGHTY SOVEREIGN GOD, AND OF HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH- AMEN –WE HEREBY INVOKE THINE GUIDANCE IN THE ESTABLISHMENT, INTERPRETATION, AND MAINTENANCE OF THIS NATION FOR ALL OF TIME, UNTIL THE SECOND COMING OF THE LORD.

WE, the human Clerics and Elders of the Church, your brothers in Jesus Christ of Nazareth, in order to establish a stable, righteous state to unite in harmony the three distinct and blessed groups of Turtles, Fungi, and Man- each a unique and special part of God’s Creation and the third made in His Image -hereby ensure until the return of our Lord a Union guided by the light of Christ and to secure to all its citizens a state reigned by the Rule of the Law and of Justice under the Fair and Balanced Scales of God’s Hand, do hereby anoint, enact, ratify, and submit this Constitution of the Holy Kingdom of the United Turtles, Mushrooms, and Humans of TurtleShroom.

Therefore, know all men, that in these formerly unclaimed and null partitions of arid, forested, and bogged territories, a new state is formed, a nation uniting three unlike entities under the one sacred banner of the Church- God’s children assembled -and guided by the Will of Christ, to which shall be a Lamp unto the ship of state and a Light unto her path.

Be it ordained, therefore, that this document be the Supreme Law of TurtleShroom, stable and pure, subordinate to no item under Heaven or the earth except the Will of our Lord; we hereby decree our Constitution, to which we shall be Morally, Legally, and Perpetually Bound.

The Constitution of TurtleShroom was ratified in 1796 AD.

[Crylante]

WE THE PEOPLE, we come together on this significant day of the 13th February 1941, to lay down the foundations for this blessed democratic federation. We will always stand to the principle that all of the federation's citizens, be they male or female, Eastern or Western, native or immigrant, middle-class or working, or Truathi, Alydian or secular*, are all equal in the eyes of the Crylantian Federation, and should be given this recognition in legal code, be free from all discrimination based on these identifiers, and should each have a say in the governing of the federation. Our glorious nation and our people have survived on this principle since the first settlements 22,000 years ago, to the Glanish invasion, to the Duchy of Sønderburg, to the Crylantian Empire, to the Lhaeraidh occupation, staying in our slavery under the United Kingdom of Lhedwin, throughout the Crylantian Civil War, and through the short-lived Principality of Crylante. We seek to serve under the principles of our great philosopher Alexandra La Blanc, and ratify this constitution under the Crylantian principles of freedom, equality and quality of opportunity, tolerance and democracy, and the promotion of intellectual discussion among the populace.

[Gandoor]

On the Ninth of September 1902, the Gandoorese Monarchy was dissolved in a successful Revolution.

Acknowledging that the purpose of the Revolution was the creation of a state that provides for the welfare of the citizen, guarantees freedom and democracy, and promotes the establishment of a Socialist economic system; the Members of the Forum of the Democratic Republic of Gandoor, elected by the citizenry, on this day of the Twelfth of October 1904, officially declare the ratification of this Constitution of the Democratic Republic of Gandoor, which shall enshrine the basis of all laws upon which future generations shall stand.

[The State of Monavia]

The preamble of the Monavian Constitution reads thus:

We the Council, having assembled in Chalcedon to reorganize the Constitution and structure of our Government, do hereby agree to establish this Covenant between ourselves to fulfill that Purpose. We solemnly Declare on our sacred Honor that we willingly Consent to be bound by the Terms which this Constitution specifies for the Exercise of our respective Powers, and that we Pledge to accept the Powers which it grants to each of us while Renouncing the powers which it denies to each of us, remembering that it is an Act of Usurpation to assume any of the Powers that belong to Others. We further wish that our Covenant shall improve the station and Condition of our Empire and its citizens, bringing about their perpetual Increase; that is shall secure our Liberty from all Usurpers; that it shall establish justice across our Land; that it shall effect a common Defense to guarantee our Domestic Security; that it shall ensure the Welfare of the People. Thus we, being vested with the full Authority of our Offices, hereby irrevocably Establish this Constitution for the Monavian Empire.

[Huyland]

We sadly gather here today to mourn the great King Tom, and the Kingdom he orphaned. Therefore, we, the citizens hereby declare this new and long lasting generic country.

[Afalia]

Afalia has no official codified constitution. Rather, a number of key documents are said to be 'constitutionally worthy.' The most important of these is the 1903 Bill of Rights, the preamble of which is:

"THEREFORE, being it the duty of the people of Afalia to chart the rights they have as freeborn men of God's Earth, the following rights and fundamental freedoms and laws are the property and birthright of every Afalian:-"

The House of Commons, amidst a number of other constitutional reforms, is currently discussing whether to amend 'freeborn men' to 'freeborn people.' A number of amendments to remove the mention of God have also been put forward over the years.

[Chinese Peoples]

The National Assembly, to the end that the rights of the people be protected and the sovereignty of the nation ascertained, in accordance with the teachings of the late Dr. Sun Yat-sen, hereby enacts this constitution, forever to be followed by all.

[Eulenberg]

I probably have the longest constitutional preamble ever...

"The Bavarian people have blazed the trail of history sword in hand. In struggle against their internal and external enemies, they have defended their existence as a people and nation, have fought for national freedom and independence, for their land and mother tongue, for their livelihood and social justice. After centuries of bondage, they achieved a major victory with the creation of the independent Bavarian national state in 1918.

In the grave conditions of Fascist occupation, and tortured by the ruling classes, the Bavarian people, under the leadership of the Communist Party, united under the banner of Socialism and Democracy, rose to their feet, and arms in hand hurled themselves into the greatest war of their history for national and social liberation. In the fire of the war for freedom, on the ruins of the old state power, the new Bavarian state of People's Democracy emerged as a form of the Dictatorship of the Proletariat. Soviet Eulenberg won genuine independence and the Bavarian people took their fate into their own hands. The people's revolution triumphed and a new epoch, the epoch of Socialism, was opened.

In the conditions of the people's state power, under the leadership of the Party of the working class, great social-economic changes were carried out, which were outlined by the first Constitution of the Bavarian socialist state. The domination by foreign capital and plunder of the country's riches was ended. The capitalists and big land owners were expropriated and the main means of production passed into the hands of the people. They way was opened for the socialist industrialization of the country. The Land Reform gave the land to those who till it, and the collectivization of agriculture set the countryside on the road of socialism.

Social ownership over the means of production and the single system of socialist economy, which prevails in town and countryside, replaced the private ownership and the multi-form economy. The exploiting classes and the exploitation of man by man were liquidated. The entire social development proceeds consciously, according to plan, and in the interest of the people.

In socialist Eulenberg, the working class is the leading class of the state and the society. New relations of mutual assistance and cooperation have been established between the two friendly classes of our society, the working class and the cooperativist peasantry, as well as the stratum of the people's intelligentsia. The work readily contributed by free people has become the decisive factor in the flourishing of the socialist homeland, in raising the general and individual wellbeing. Eulenberg has overcome its age-old backwardness and has been transformed into a country with advanced industry and agriculture.

The vital forces of the people were freed and their inexhaustible creative energies burst out. In the unceasing process of the revolution the German woman won equality in all fields, became a great social force, and is advancing towards her complete emancipation. Education and culture have become the property of the broad masses of the people, and science and knowledge have been placed at the service of society. The foundations of religious obscurantism were smashed. The moral figure of the working man, his consciousness, and world outlook, are moulded on the basis of the proletarian ideology, which has become the dominant ideology.

Socialism has shown its absolute superiority over the old exploiting order.

Eulenberg has entered the stage of the complete construction of socialist society. The great historic changes have created new conditions for the continuous development of the revolution and socialist construction.

The waging of the class struggle in favour of socialism, the continuous strengthening of the state of the dictatorship of the proletariat and the deepening of socialist democracy, the development of the productive forces and the perfecting of socialist relations of production, the steady raising of the wellbeing of the working masses, the gradual narrowing of distinctions between industry and agriculture, town and country, mental and physical labour, the affirmation of the personality of man within the socialist collectivity, the mastering of contemporary technology and science, the continuous revolutionization of the entire life of the country, are the main ways through which the socialist society is growing stronger and advancing.

The Bavarian people are determined to defend their national independence, the people's state power and their socialist victories against any enemy. Socialist Eulenberg is always an active factor in the struggle for national and social liberation, for peace, freedom, and the rights of all the peoples against imperialism, reaction, revisionism and lies. In its foreign policy it is guided by the great ideals of socialism and communism, and fights for their triumph the world over.

The Bavarian people have found constant inspiration in the great doctrine of Marxism-Leninism and Stalinism-Hoxhaism, under the banner of which, united round the Communist Party and under its leadership, they are carrying forward the construction of socialist society to pass over, later, gradually to communist society.

In continuation of the revolutionary tradition of the working class and remembering the liberation from imperialism, the people of the Bavarian Council Republic of Eulenberg have implemented their right to social-economical, governmental and national self-determination, in accordance with the processes of the historical progress of our age, and are building the advanced Socialist society.
Filled with the desire to be free, to continue going the way of Socialism and Communism, of Peace, of Democracy and Friendship of Peoples unflustered, the people of Eulenberg have given themselves this Socialist Constitution."

[Populi-Terrae]

We, the people of these Democratic States of Populi-Terrae, swear to uphold these rules which in order to bind together this land, establishes the law and the procedure of the manner by which the people will be best represented by their elected representatives in one, indivisible nation where the rights and dreams of it's citizenry shall be respected.

[Soviet Polsol]

The Supreme Soviet,
acting on behalf of the people of Soviet Polsol,
confirming the people's right of independence and freedom,
having taken into account the present state of the world,
having heard the opinions of scientific experts,
dismayed at the constant rebukes we receive at the hands of the Capitalists and the treacherous Trotskyists,
having studied the works of Marx, Lenin, Stalin, and many other great Socialists,
paying its deepest respect to those that fought and died for the freedom of the workers and peasants from oppression,
uniting itself to the will of the people,
has accepted and ratified this Constitution here following:
