What does your "Victory Day" look like? (EARTH NATIONS ONLY)

Postby Sibiri- » Wed Jan 18, 2017 12:48 am

(NOTE: Only NATIONS that exist within a timeline where there was a WWII and they were in it or any sort of Victory against a large force of evil. No "What is this victory day" bs or anything like that. If it's not World War II, explain another holiday that you celebrate that counts as a "Victory Day", but has the title of "Victory Day".)

Siberia celebrates Victory Day ever May 8th to commemorate the Soviet Troops that fought against Germany in World War II. This day is the same day that Russia celebrates theirs, but the celebrations feel more patriotic than Russia's as over billions are spent to ensure that victory day is celebrated. Many songs from the war such as Sacred War and such are played. Many troops are infact, showing signs of true patriotism due to Kozlovsky's current regime in recent years. In 2016, Victory Day was said to be the most largest attended Victory Day outside of Russia, which included several world leaders, including President Barack Obama to attend.

We do not celebrate Victory Day, as we never took part of the World War.

The Allies lost the war in this universe, so they do not have any reason to celebrate.
This nation is getting a complete makeover. Facts and policies posted before 2019 are NOT accurate.

Victory Day is celebrated every August 30th to celebrate both the end of the Second World War and the surrender of the final enemy armies in Tysoania. The holiday is celebrated with massive parades in every major settlement in the nation, as well as a full review of a naval fleet on the banks of the Port of South Tysoania. It is also marked by the traditional free handouts of sweets and drinks to celebrants in the street, as well as three days of a civic holiday, with all non-essential employees given the days off.

The war took place before we existed as a sovereign nation, but we celebrate it because citizens, fighting under the flag of our occupier Una Potentia, came from the autonomous region, from which our nation emerged. We never fought the Nazis, so our Victory Day is on September 2nd.

In the morning, we orchestrate marches in which the veterans and their descendants take part in. On this day, all public institutions, including schools and government buildings, are given the day off and our flags are held at half-mast. On channels controlled by the government, war films and documentaries air non-stop.

In the afternoon, new members of the Civil Defense Forces are formally inducted. To make sure the homeless celebrate, sweets and other foods are handed out.

At night, there is a torch-light parade by members of the Civil Defense Forces, followed by fireworks and a speech by the Minister of War and the President.

The Japanese Empire had multiple victory days, our first takes place on August 29th and has every year since our victory against the United States of America. Our second is after we concluded a peace treaty with the allied governments and joined the allies on October 15th 1945 and Japanese troops fought alongside western allied forces in Greece, Bulgaria, Albania, and Yugoslavia after being allowed by the British to cross through the Suez Canal and WWII officially ended on March 5th 1946.

October 23rd is known as Victory Day in Carena, as it is when the war between Carena and China ended (though the war was more of a stalemate, it is celebrated as a victory in Carena). September 2nd is known as VP Day, or Victory in the Pacific War Day, commemorating Japan's surrender to the US, and is primarily celebrated in American territories. May 8th is celebrated in Europe and known as V-Day in Carenian Europe, except for Germany where it is known as Tag der Befreiung vom Nationalsozialismus (Day of Liberation from National Socialism). May 9th is celebrated as V-Day in Carenian Russia and eastern Europe. The Greater Moscow Megalopolis boasts a massive parade on this day.

Along with celebrating the usual VE day (8th of May), we also celebrate Liberigo Ferio (Liberation Day) every March 22 to celebrate our liberation from fascist italian forces that occupied our country during WWII. The entire country is given a day off from work, and there are military parades across the country. The festivities end with fireworks and a speech from the president.

August 15 (Confederation Day) is commemorated as a Federal Holiday; it was on that day in 1988 that the Visayan Confederation was officially declared and hostilities ceased between the Confederation and the Kingdom of New Luzon. September 2 (V-J Day) is commemorated as a Federal Memorial.

All public institutions are given the day off whenever Confederation Day falls on a weekday, as was the case with Confederation Day 2016 (Monday). Incidentally, 2016 saw the first Naval Review that coincided with Confederation Day.

Every March 23rd is known as Unification Day, when Lukoi Espurik united the warring Clans to form the United Confederacy. Everyone gets a day off work to celebrate, and later on in the night every single building in the city (And I do mean EVERY single building in Silca) lets off fireworks, making the night sky look like awesome chaos. Also has the effect of feeling like you're in a warzone if you so happen to be standing in the streets while the fireworks are going off. Both the President and the Emperor also make public appearances and do some speeches.

Not exactly a "Victory Day" but Monte Cristo celebrates Giorno della Liberazione or Liberation Day, marked on 9 September every year to celebrate La Schermaglia ("The Skirmish") – the only battle ever fought on Monte Cristo – that expelled Italian forces from the island in 1943.

After years of well-balanced diplomacy on the part of Count Stefano, Italian forces finally invaded the officially neutral Monte Cristo on 2 April 1942. The volunteer militiamen (mostly comprised of retired soldiers from Italy and France) were quickly overwhelmed and surrendered. The occupation was initially met with indifference by Monte Cristans who were mostly of Italian descent. Many vaguely supported Mussolini and his Fascists but rejected the idea of union or integration with Italy.

From the outset, however, Count Stefano openly expressed his hostility and audaciously defied the Italian invasion forces, flouting curfews and, later, his house arrest. Monte Cristans soon followed their Count in public opposition to the increasingly heavy-handed occupation.

On 3 September 1943, Italy signed the Armistice of Cassibile formally capitulating to the Allies. News of the armistice was made public on 8 September. In response, Count Stefano rallied his Household Guard and a volunteer force of militiamen and marched on the port of Cala Maestra where Italian forces were based.

Catching the Italians off-guard, Count Stefano personally accepted surrender of the Italian forces from their commanding officer, Captain Vittore Andrea Piazza. After a short discussion, Italian forces were expelled from the island shortly after midday (as there was nowhere to detain them all), with the Monte Cristan volunteers seizing their weapons, equipment and supplies. Captain Piazza was detained a symbolic gesture of his forces' surrender but was released after negotiations with the Italian government (which included restitutions for property damage) 8 weeks later.

Tag des Sieges (Victory Day), is a celebrated holiday in the DDR. Marking the day the forces of Germany and the Soviet Union drove out French Fascist forces from Western Germamy and used nuclear weapons on Paris.

This is often celebrated with a national parde in Berlin peformed by the Naionale Volksarmee, a special party meeting celebrating the victory, and widespread celebrations with parties, fireworks and other festivities.

Our victory day(September 15, 1945) also coincides with another small scale military inspection before a parade, which is also the only day where the imperial palace gardens are opened, considered one of the best gardens in the nation. That day, everyone gets a day off unless it's a Sunday, then the day after is a public holiday.
During the celebrations, parades are held all over the nation, and at the time of the signing of the american surrender treaty, the empress gives an official speech which is usually laced with memes. At night, fireworks are launched off traditionally and a 21 gun salute for the navy takes place, using flak shells.

Victory Day does not have the same definition as other nations. Nachfolgia took a strong side with Germany during the second world war and suffered a terrible loss of both men and economic power. We did, however, survived and pushed the allies back, but could not outright beat them. That is our Victory Day, surviving the war.
