[DRAFT] U mad bro?

Postby Noahs Second Country » Thu Jan 12, 2017 2:10 pm

I searched the spoiler thread for the word "meme" and received no results.
And this is what happens.

Edits
1: Changed biggar to biggert, added validity
2: small change
3: "
4: Added option 4 as per Perland's request.
5: Changed "a" to "the"
6: Complete redraft.
7: Removed some memes.

[desc]With more and more people using the Internet every day, memes, or viral internet ideas, have spread across @@NAME@@ and made the Internet more and more popular. However, many countries, especially Bigtopia, have been offended by racist remarks found in certain memes. The angry Bigtopian ambassador has met with you in @@CAPITAL@@.

[validity]Large information technology, average intelligence, has computers, medium to high rudeness

[option]"The rights of our people have been infringed upon," claims @@RANDOMNAME@@, the Bigtopian ambassador, while disliking a new meme on UrFunny. "They call us biggerts! PewPewDie made a 5 minute video about cooking us Bigtopians, whatever that means! You better get rid of these meme thingys, or we will take military action!"
[effect]the only people who use social media are celebrities and photographers

[option]"Why can't you just ignore it?" asks @@RANDOMNAME@@, while adding extremely racist text to a picture he had just taken of the ambassador. "All I'm doing is giving people something to laugh about. It's all a joke, that's what people really need to understand. I'm sharing their culture for everyone to see. Maybe you should just tell everyone not to take them so serious, and we wouldn't have these triggered ambassadors." He finishes posting and immediately gets 67 likes on Twitcher.
[effect]over 9000 other countries have been angered by the latest memes.

[option]"Why so extreme?" asks your Minister of Finance, @@RANDOMNAME@@, while laughing at a random meme. "I like memes. They give some culture to @@NAME@@, and let us share what we want to share. However, there is a limit. Blatantly racist comments, such as calling people biggerts, should be banned. The government just needs to step in and monitor the internet, like a profanity filter for racism."
[effect]the word "white" is censored to prevent racism.

[option]"If anything, the Internet needs less censorship, not more," says @@RANDOMMALEFIRSTNAME@@ Poole, founder of the popular imageboard known as 5chun. "I mean, look at the good things we have done for the Internet. Creativity is everywhere, and by allowing people to be completely anonymous people can share great ideas that they may be too afraid to share with their actual identity. Make it harder for the government to use the internet against us, and you'll find that the general population is happier, smarter, and more creative."
[effect]Other nations are outright scared of @@NAME@@'s internet.

You've captured my sense of humor in this issue and I'm equally ashamed as I am amused  I feel like 4chan should be in here somewhere as well, as it seems like a good narrative for the offensive part of it all. And man, if you had had say a frazzled news reporter (CNN and FOX are about to be suing me) trying to explain this when he/she has no damn idea what s/he is doing I might piss myself, but that's my personal need and should probably be ignored. But yeah, good issue. However, I think the term "biggar" might be pushing the line pretty hard...

Yeah, I will make these changes.
But as for biggar... I don't know what can seem offensive but not be offensive.
Obviously not bigger... maybe biggert?

This is pretty good, but I'd add another validity criterion. Nations with low rudeness levels aren't going to be terribly receptive to memes in the first place.

I see promise in this issue, but for the second option and the first sentence, is it supposed to be, "Y u no chill?" instead of "Yu no chill?"

The word comes up in one issue's effect line.

It also fails to appear in any current accepted submissions, but it exists 84 times in the last 9 months of deleted issues. Take that as you will. :)

I suggest changing "ambassador" to "emissary." "Ambassador" is a specific person. In its description, you used "a" and not "the."

Maybe you could add some sort of "Polandball option" encouraging the use of memes for intelligent satire and political commentary?

If you want a freaky compromise option, you could go with one where the leader just says f it, and starts making his/her own memes by say having a government meme page or something, cause why not e.e And the effect can be something like "@@LEADER@@ spends more time subtly insulting foreign diplomats than running the country."

Noah, only you would author an issue filled with such memes. Loving your references, "It's time to stop," is just great.

On an issue authoring note, I think the validity of the issue (Based on option four) should include nations who have some form of censorship already is place (I.E Low-Mid Political freedoms) since you mention having more censorship, which means censorship must pre-exist.

The main difficulty with issues such as this is that they may become outdated. Memes such as "Over 9000" or references to 4chan and iFunny could be argued to be timeless, but more recent phrases such as "It's time to stop" may have an expiry date that we cannot yet predict. While it is a reasonable phrase to use when ignoring the meme behind it, it may seem quite jarring in terms of sentence structure in future. Even now, to both those that know the meme and those that do not, it reads in a stilted manner.
