Peacekeepers (OOC/OPEN/MT)

Postby Altito Asmoro » Sun Jan 08, 2017 9:23 pm

2005,

A half decade past the induction of a new era of warfare. A half decade of loss, fear, and war. Iraq and Afghanistan, Yugoslavia, the Somali and Nigerian civil wars, Maghreb, all issues that threaten to grow larger and consume more and more lives. It's something the UN has been motivated by.

Members of both the permanent and temporary UNSC have decided to pour a considerable amount of resources into an international task force. Capable of reaching out and operating in environments and situations in which conventional Peacekeepers could not. Due to bureaucracy and the general lack of creativeness on the UN's part, they are simply known as 'The Peacekeepers'.

With a majority of the international community backing them, they'll either usher in a new era of peace and safety, or fail and be shuffled into the files of numerous failed UN programs. As a member, it's partially up to you to decide.

Welcome, to the Peacekeepers.

1. No Godmodding/Meta-Gaming: This can be defined as playing your character without limitations or having your character know things they couldn't possibly know.
2. Don't be a dick in the OOC: You can have your character be an aggressive and smarter version of a certain President-Elect in the IC. But the moment you act like a dick in the OOC thread you'll get a warning.
3. No One Liners: Three full lines of text per each IC post, anything less is frowned upon and is generally laziness and will not be accepted. Anything greater is acceptable and is smiled upon.
4. No 'Dick measuring' contests: The moment two of you start arguing over which character is better, and it doesn't contribute to goings on in the IC. You'll both get a warning.
5. For the love of god keep it PG-13: This is a general site rule, and while PG-13 is a blurred line nowadays, the rules of thumb are: nothing sexually explicit, and nothing overly violent. This is a place to role play as Operators Operating Operationally, not write out deviant fantasies.
6. No multicolor or odd dialogue: No colored text, and no italicized/bolded/underlines paragraphs. Reserve them for actual use instead of using them for everything.
7. If you have a problem with a player, take it to TG. If that does not work, bring it to the OP or a CoOP's attention. Do not turn the OOC thread into chaos.
8. You have a 72 hour grace period to post if you're holding someone back, after that your character will be forced to move on by the OP or Co-Op. Failure to return will result in character death.
9. Don't just write for yourself, other want to get involved as well. I realize it's human nature, but try to involve other people's ideas, themes, and characters. A major part in RPing is having other people, don't turn them away or cast a blind eye.
10. Have fun!

Name: Kapitan [OF-2] Valeska Kowalski
Age:33
Gender: Female
Nationality: Polish
Ethnicity:Lipkan Tatar, Afrikaaner
Appearance5'11 roughly 247 pounds
Preferred Weapons: FNH F2000 w/ GL1, Desert Eagle XIX.
Previous military and/or law enforcement experience:
  • Polish Armed Forces (1991-Present)
    • JW GROM (2001-2005)
Specialization: Medic/Corpsman, Grenadier, Fluent in: Polish, English, Russian, French, and Arabic.
Education:Master of Science for General Chemistry, from the Military University of Technology in Warsaw.
Biography:Born in Bialystok, Poland in the Summer of 1972, to a Tataran father and a South African mother, Valeska was raised a Muslim. In the turbulence of a declining Soviet Union, this was a risky move by her parents. However they all made it through the troubled times no worse for wear, and Valeska remembers the communist regime quite distinctly. Throughout her early life in school she was a typical child, focused more on having fun with her friends than actual school work, however after a small event in which a chemist came to her school to put on a show with the various chemicals and compounds he had, Valeska started paying more attention to her science classes.

During the first few years of going through puberty, she started experiencing chest pains near where her heart would be. Her father, in a fit of worry, drove her to the hospital without delay. After an overnight stay, and an MRI, the doctors promptly concluded that the girl would likely remain healthy. Seeing as they pain wasn't coming from her heart... which was on the other side of her body. The diagnosis of Costochondritis for the chest pain. And Situs inversus -or a mirrored abdomen- for the position of her heart, lungs, liver, and stomach being, frankly, not where they should be.

Though one would expect a bit of normalcy from then on, the universe wasn't having it. In her seventeenth year of life, she was taking a driving lesson when she was involved in an accident. The resulting crash mangled the car, and left the T-boned wreck embedded into the front end of a panel van. After a rush to the hospital, the doctors were once again puzzled. While the teen had several contusions and lacerations from shattered glass, she had not one broken or fractured bone despite the impact being on the driver's side. After reviewing Valeska's medical history, the doctors and surgeons prepared for some weird shit. And after once again surmising that something was off, they decided to run a whole board of tests at Valeska.

Several things things were found after a three week wait. Medical professionals put a name to the reason for why she wasn't a cripple. The LRP-5 gene -capable of inflicting Osteoporosis- was also capable of increasing bone mass if mutated in the opposite way. Nearly all cases of such a mutation descended from Afrikaans settlers, of which her mother was. But the shock wasn't done. Beyond the increase in bone mass, doctors discovered that her musculature wasn't receiving myostatin in adequate levels either, resulting in a higher muscle mass. By common rationality Valeska shouldn't have existed, but there she was, living and breathing in front of them.

Though one doctor said something she overheard that riled her to no end: "She shouldn't exist."

It angered Valeska, now intent on proving the world that she belonged. Prior grades began to rise, and her outlook on life turned from mild curiosity to 'let's get shit done'. In a way, learning that she was all but a unnatural abomination was the catalyst for her saying 'fuck you too' to the world and moving onwards and upwards.

Fast forwarding to post-graduation, Valeska gained high enough marks to attend university, aiming for a degree in chemistry. However after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Valeska felt a sense of duty for both her people and her newly dubbed western allies. So instead of enrolling in a civilian university, she enrolled in Military University of Technology in Warsaw, opting to finish her education and subsequently serve in her nations army. Her plan formed well, after she gained her Bachelor of Science, and finshed basic training. Despite her beginning hesitance, she eventually grew on the military lifestyle, though in a move she has since deemed 'oddly stupid' she signed on with JW GROM soon before 9/11.

Valeska most recent -and last- operation with GROM was a classified operation taking place in Chad, resulting in the rest of her unit becoming killed or WIA after an IED detonated in the building they were breaching. Valeska only received a concussion and a scar across her temple due to being the last member of the team in the stack.

Not too soon after she was given the opportunity to join The Peackeepers, seeing it as a slightly lower risk job than previous, and still giving her the chance to help in more ways than one, Valeska accepted the offer, and was promptly transferred.

Preferred Weapons: RK 95 TP Assault Rifle and Walther P99 Handgun

Previous military and/or law enforcement experience: 10 total years in service with Finland as an Utti Jaeger that resulted in a tour in Afghanistan as well as time spent off the coast of Somalia with UN forces to combat pirating. Currently serves at the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Specialization: Helicopter Insertions, Airborne Insertions, Night Infiltration, Hostage Rescue, CQB, and Unarmed Combat

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Cognitive Psychology and Biopsychology

Biography: After graduating from secondary school, Matti was conscripted into the Finnish military as was custom in Finland. Originally serving as an infantryman, Matti showed much promise during his training and had drawn the attention of several higher-ups. He was given the chance to attend Airborne training, and by the time he had reached the age of 21, Matti had earned the title of an Utti Jaeger.

Aziza lost her mother to suicide when she was just five years old, but growing up with only her father wasn't much of a problem for her. After her mother's death her father started to work from home so he could take care of Aziza as well. During her youth Aziza just went to school as any other and at home she learned several languages from her father, languages spoken in the country but not taught at school.
As Aziza grew older she started to wonder why her mother had committed suicide. At first her father refused to answer such questions but eventually he realized he could not avoid it forever. Aziza learned that an armed robbery had taken place at their house some two months after she started Kindergarten. Her mother had been home that afternoon and became the victim of assault and rape, something she never fully recovered from. Almost six months later she ended her life, tired of the nightmares and the endless fear. Aziza also learned that the assailants got away with their crime, a major reason as to why she joined the Almaty Police Academy a few years later.

After the three years of study and training she finally became a police officer and immediately requested to become a dog handler, partly because it would give her a confidence boost but also because she barely met the physical requirements at the time. For two years she roamed the streets with Aslan, her loyal companion and friend. Together they arrested many small-time criminals all over Almaty.

This wasn't enough for Aziza though as she was looking for the big-time criminals, like the ones that drove her mother to suicide all those years ago. Together with Aslan she joined the Special Police Force and started her hunt for the real criminals out there.
About a year later the country was looking for police officers who would like to be send overseas to train Iraqi police officers. Aziza joined up fairly soon as it would offer her something completely new and because it might take her mind away from finding those who she might never find.
Her first deployment to Iraq was like entering a whole new world for Aziza. She was there with just one other police officer, the others being soldiers. During these 14 months she trained the Iraqi police officers in the use of Pistols, Assault Rifles and she taught some special units on how to train and use dogs during their work. There was alot she learned during the deployment as the situation for police officers in Iraq was a whole lot different from the situation in Kazakhstan.
After a successful first deployment to Iraq Aziza signed up for another one a year later. Again she planned to head for Iraq for 14 months, but it turned out to be a much shorter trip. Almost four months had passed in Iraq when the training facility came under attack. Aziza fled towards one of the bunkers along with her colleague when a mortar shell exploded just a few meters away from them. Aziza fell to the ground and for a moment she could only hear a ringing sound and could only see dust around her. As she got on her knees she looked around and noticed that her colleague was fine, but as she looked further back she noticed Aslan laying on the ground and as her hearing returned she heard choking sounds coming from him. As fast as she could she crawled over to him, only to notice that there was nothing she could do for him. A piece of metal had penetrated his neck. Aslan died in Aziza's hands and was buried at the end of that day near the training facility.
Aziza flew back home a week later, unable to deal with the death of her companion.

For a few months Aziza stayed at home, barely leaving house. She suffered nightmares and was easily scared by loud noises. Her father noticed the suffering and took Aziza with him on a trip to China. Upon visiting the Forbidden City of China her father started to talk about how many times the country had fallen, and even though its many struggles it had become one of the worlds most powerful nations. It was a message, a message Aziza understood right away. She should continue with her old ambitions and even though times could be rough, as long as she kept pursuing them she would eventually reach them.

And so Aziza signed up at the Military Institute of Land Forces and chose to become a sniper, close enough to the action yet far enough from the blasts. It was a tough training for Aziza to complete but after two years she finally made it. Sadly she was too late for another deployment to Iraq as Kazakhstan had decided to withdraw all forces from the country by that time.
Four years long she served the army, up till the point she started to have enough of it. There was barely any action aside from capturing drug smugglers and the occasional anti-terrorist operation. It was time to move on once more.

She went back to the Military Institute of Land Forces and completed the one year training to become part of the Kokhzal, an elite unit responsible for major anti-terrorist operations as well as the protection of the president. It was there she finally found the place she was looking for. She and her colleagues became close friends early on and they even got her a special gift to welcome her into the unit, it was a puppy, an East-European Shepherd just like Aslan was. She and her colleagues spend as much time as possible with him to train him so he could be taken along on missions.

After almost a year in service the Kokhzal received news that Kazakhstan was going to deploy soldiers to several UN missions. It was an oppertunity she and her colleagues couldn't resist as it would give them a new experience that might help them during their usual missions.
In March 2014 Aziza, four of her colleagues and her dog Ayu got deployed to Liberia. Their job was to observe the UN mission in the country, a thing from which they could learn a lot. It was there she learned that her journey had not ended, she found a new love amongst the military, keeping the peace. She even started to miss being a simple police officer at some points. It was a rare thing these days for her to be able to just roam the streets and talk to the locals. She made many friends during her deployment, both foreign UN soldiers, Liberian soldiers as local people. Aziza grew especially close to the children there as they often came by to pet Ayu when they walked down the street. Still though, the deployment wasn't a vacation and Aziza spend most time sitting and lying on high grounds, covering the surrounding areas for the UN soldiers down below. Two times, with only three days in between, action had to be taken by Aziza and her colleagues as rebels threatened the safety of the UN soldiers and the local people.

After returning home from her deployment she told her father about her experience during the UN mission. The excitement pushed her father to tell her about the Peacekeepers, a relatively new special force within the UN. Even though her heart wanted to join up right away, it still took her almost two years to do it as she wasn't sure if she wanted to give up her great situation for the unknown.
Still she made the choice to do so and Aziza, along with her companion Ayu, embarked on a new ambition to bring some safety and security to the world.

I'm working on my app a bit and wondered, would it be alright for my character to have a dog on her side? It would be trained for purposes such as scouting, tracking and SAR operations.

Biography: Born in 1961 Glasgow to an Army father and a housewife mother, Raymond was always surrounded by a military upbringing. His grandfather had fought as a paratrooper at Arnhem in 1944 and his father was currently serving, including a deployment to Aden in 1967 when Ray was only 6 years old. As such, Raymond never saw or knew much about his father but was instantly attracted and excited by his status as a paratrooper and "hero" in his eyes. As he grew older, he began to seek out anything he could find related to the military and was always first to visit his grandfather to hear his old stories or spend the little pocket money he had on Commando war comics at his local newsagents. He wrote all through school about how he wanted to follow in the footsteps of the men in his family and become a "Para".

Things didn't last however. His father's latest deployment to Northern Ireland as part of Operation Banner seemed to be the final nail in the coffin of his parent's marriage and they split up, his mother taking Ray with her. She struggled to handle Raymond on her own as he attended school less and less, answering the door countless times to truant officers and the police pulling in a defiant teenage boy. All but forced to, he left his school at the age of 16 and joined the British Army. For once, he felt purpose and belonging. Of course, the training wasn't easy and he was no stranger to the fury of an angry Drill Sergeant but he enjoyed the company of the close friends he had begun to make there and felt closer than ever to his goal of earning that red beret. Three years later, he did.

His first taste of action was in 1982 in the Falklands, where he took part in the operations to reclaim the islands and fought at the Battle of Mount Longdon. In the terrifying confusion of bad weather and enemy fire, he first experienced the true nature of combat and came face-to-face with his Argentine foes as the men stormed the enemy trenches. Despite the countless service that followed, those fateful hours in the south Atlantic always stuck with Raymond as he remembered the sickening shapes of his fellow troops lying face down in the cold slopes and the vivid sounds of close combat. They wouldn't be the last of his mates to fall in battle, but they would be the ones he would remember most. This first combat was always remembered as the hardest and the feelings of anger and loss led to a bittersweet sense of triumph a short time later when he stood guard over Argentine prisoners in Port Stanley. This didn't feel like the victories of the heroes of his youth, but it was a victory nonetheless.

Returning to a UK swept in patriotic feeling, Raymond soon found it hard to adjust to normal civilian life and he whittled down the hours before he could return to his duties. For him, the 80s brought further deployments to Belize and as UN Peacekeepers in Cyprus, but he sound began to a consider a more active direction. Here, he thought, was a chance to test his skills and continue his purpose and to make his family, country and himself even prouder. To honour his mates that didn't come home. He was thinking of the SAS. Almost fanatically, he dedicated his free hours to fitness and endurance training, shunning the more social aspects of his life, and took up martial arts such as Judo and Aikido in order to train his strength. As the end of the decade loomed, so too did his chance at joining the Special Air Service.

A gruelling and intense selection period followed, with a prospective Trooper's fitness, endurance and the ability to handle pressure all being placed under intense scrutiny. In the longest 36 hours hours of his Army career, Raymond endured one of the most notorious of all selection tests, the interrogation. Here, he gained an almost odd respect and appreciation for the stress and pressure he was placed under. The skill of his interrogators in placing him in his own hell and keeping him there for a day and a half seemed incredible to him. He noted it down as something to work on, and he would have time too. He was selected. But not even he could predict the events of the next decade and a half.

From here, a long and eventful career followed. A SCUD-hunting mission deep behind enemy lines at the height of the Gulf War in 1991, with a Military Medal to show for it. The successful capture and interrogation of two members of the PIRA in Northern Ireland in 1994. The capture of a Serbian war criminal from an enemy safehouse in 1999 and a peacekeeping operation in Sierra Leone in 2000. With the new millennium however, Raymond began to notice things were changing. After being worn down by deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, Ray was starting to feel the events of the past catching up to him. He was older, no longer the same man from his prime and the march of technology had brought brand-new equipment and weapons to the field, with Ray unwilling to keep up to date unless forced. Mentally, things began to take their toll too. His marriage had collapsed in the same way his parent's had years before and he could count a longer list of old friends that didn't make it back. Maybe he needed a new purpose again for his older years.

With his experience and record, it would be more than likely he could gain a job as an instructor in Hereford for the next batch of Troopers but it seemed that the world had other plans when a new job offer had arrived, inviting Ray as a member of a new UN Taskforce. Likely as a result of one of his old contacts, Ray felt a chance to prove himself once again.

I forgot to switch nations befoe tagging! >:(

Maybe, I haven't planned about it till that far, but if there will be one most likely you have to stick with original antagonists/terrorists, and since this will be set from 2005/on 2005, well...antagonists from 2005 and before 2005.

Yes. Sure, you can make one. Despite the spec ops themes, the UN actually recruit from not just military but also from law enforcement and intelligence.

Just wondering, would the RP begin with the unit already considered together or will we be going through introductions, induction, background of the unit etc.
