Backstory


The year is 2119, and humanity has expanded its reach far beyond planet Earth. Thanks to the development of faster-than-light travel in the year 2067, humans have been able to explore solar systems light years away from their own. By the year 2079, humans had set up their first colony on the planet Eden which was similar to Earth in the Brahe Solar System as well as several outposts on its moon Amazonia. Due to the considerable distance between Earth, these colonists were essentially on their own and had to rely on themselves. This wouldn't be much of an issue, however, as the planet was filled to the brim with untapped resources that were up for grabs to whoever was willing to work for them.

To aid them in this, the colonists brought with them the massive semi-autonomous machines known as Knights with them. These Knights were immensely powerful and durable, serving the colonists as both working tools and protection from the local wildlife of Eden. They proved extremely useful to the colonists, and soon Eden had become prosperous due to the wealth of resources the planet held. In control of these Giants were people known as Pilots. These Pilots were men and women of incredible intelligence, agility, and strength who were trained to handle the rigorous demand that was controlling a Knight.

Within a handful of generations, citizens of Eden began to feel less and less connected to their Earthly origin, and soon calls of independence rang from across the planet after the citizens began to feel like they were being cheated out of the wealth that Eden provided. The United Earth Council, or UEC, was not willing to allow this to happen. Eden was too valuable to let lose, and by the year 2116, the UEC sent in an expeditionary force to subdue to colonists.

This proved to do the exact opposite, however, as the citizens of Eden saw this as an act of invasion of their homeland. Protests rang out from across the planet, and soon the spark for conflict was provided after UEC forces opened fire upon an unruly mob in the Eden capital of Atlas in the year 2117. This incident, which led to the deaths of several innocent protestors, would be known as the Atlas Incident. UEC leadership refused to punish those responsible, which was the final straw for the colonists. A war for independence had begun as the colonists formed a resistance known as The Frontiersmen.

Two years after the Atlas Incident, the conflict continued on with The Frontiersmen controlling the Northern hemisphere while the UEC controlled the Southern. A stalemate had been reached, as The Frontiersmen couldn't match the military prowess of the UEC and the UEC were limited in both numbers and resources due to the immense distance between Earth and Eden. However, they weren't the only players involved in the conflict. Independent groups emerged from the conflict, some favoring the UEC, some favoring The Frontiersmen, and others choosing to favor neither.

The fate of Eden rests in the hands of those with those talented enough to stand above the rest. Will that be you, Pilot?


Indtroduction


Hello, and welcome to Knights of Steel. This RP is a mix of Character, Faction, and Worldbuilding. This RP is based on the game series TItanfall, developed by Respawn, and thus borrows a lot of the concepts from the two games. For those interested in joining, you will have the option of joining the UEC, The Frontiersmen, or any other factions that have been caught in the conflict as one of the elite individuals known as Pilots. You'll have your own Knight which you can equip with whatever fits you best.

While this is mainly an RP based around characters, it will also heavily revolve around the various factions as they battle for control of Eden. You are encouraged to suggest anything you feel would be good for the RP, whether it be Knights, weapons, cities, factions, or anything else that tickles your fancy. While it's not required, it would be helpful to watch this video, which goes over the lore of Titanfall, which this RP is heavily based upon.

As something to note, while this is futuristic, technology is still limited. Some things to note:

*Most weaponry is still traditional ballistic that would be similar to what is found today, although ion and plasma weaponry is available to organizations that can afford them
*Communication and travel from Earth and Eden still takes a significant amount of time, specifically five years
*While semi-autonomous AI is prevalent, there are no androids, synths, etc
*Due to the level of skill needed to control a Knight in combat, Pilots are fairly rare among each faction and should be seen as highly valuable assets to use in tandem with regular ground troops
*Pilots will possess a much wider arrary of weaponry and gadgets than a regular ground troop, such as jump jets, cloaking, holograms, etc
*Knights are divided into three classes and are all capable of handling a variety of weaponry
-Wolverines, which have lightly armored chassis that provide sacrifices protection for enhanced mobility
-Bears, which have heavily armored chassis that provide thick layers of protection at the cost of mobility
-Wolves, which have the standard armor chassis that provides a fair share of protection and while not sacrificing too much mobility
*The UEC will have the most advanced technology while The Frontiersmen will have the least advanced

5) If possible, when fighting against other posters, try and communicate beforehand how you want the fight to end, that way the thread isn't filled with short paragraphs of people shooting and missing
6) Feel free to express yourself with as graphic as language, imagery, etc, in your writing, as long as it's within NS rules
7) I'm only allowing a select amount custom factions which will come on a first come, first serve bias
8) While anyone can have a major role in one of the factions, I'm only going to give leadership positions to those I know who will write quality posts and will stay active

Equipment:
  • Kodi Arms Ballistic Rifle - Revision-21C (KABR-21) - Your typical run of the mill Assault rifle, the KABR-21 was utilized within the ranks of the UEC as a standard frontline combat rifle famed for its tough design able to withstand rugged use. Later the KABR-21 would be sold onto private military contractors, Salient being one of many to adopt the rifle. This particular model is a carbine version as denoted by the C in its name, useful for vehicle crews and pilots who have little room to spare within the cockpit of a Knight. Standard features include a 35 round box magazine, folding stock and modular rail system for adaptability.
  • 'Elefant' Heavy Revolver - Named the Elefant for its bulky and heavy nature, the Heavy Revolver utilizes archaic designs from the 20th and 21st century, yet its it remains a considerably reliable sidearm with enough stopping power to penetrate even modern thin nanofabrics and clothing. Obviously not standard issue given replacement parts and ammunition are incredibly hard to come by.
  • G-81 Mag-Frag Grenade x3 - The Mag-Fraag grenade is what it says on the tin, a Magnetic grenade with a fragmenting nature. After two arming switches are depressed on either side of the orb, a three second window opens before the powerful magnets within, engage and hold it fast to any metallic surface whether it be the armor of a soldier, or the hull of a mech, then another second remains before the fuze expires and the weapon deploys a wall of pressure and on it, rides a wave of sharp metallic fragments but also, fine metallic dust which plays havoc with exposed electronic systems, like that of a mech for example.
  • Smoke Grenade (White) x2
  • Smoke Grenade (Red) x1
  • Medical Nanofoam Canister x3 - Medical Nanofoam was a breakthrough around the mid-21st century where modern modern medicine boomed after a wave of successful trials with cybernetic limb enhancements and surrogate vat grown organs. Nanofoam is almost primitive by comparison yet saves thousands of lives on a daily basis, a pressurized canister contains an expanding foam that acts as a coagulant, wound sealant and sterilizing disinfectant all in one, it is able to treat from small abrasive wounds to gaping puncture wounds with an almost 100% survival rate by stemming blood flow and binding the exposed surfaces together. Though it should be noted the foam is not a cureall and simply serves as a first response to any life threatening injury, and is only meant to keep the patient alive whilst they seek further medical treatment as after several hours, the foam will begin to decompose and liquefy harmlessly.
  • Praetorian Lightweight Battle Exoskeleton - Developed initially from suits intended for industrial applications, the engineers behind the Praetorian Battle Suit Program saw the need for lightweight and accessible exoskeleton system for emerging Private Security/Military Companies, thus the Lightweight Battle Exoskeleton was born. Designed to fit over most standard issue combat fatigues, the small frame of the exoskeleton is perfect for vehicle crews or Knight pilots and comes with a weight bearing harness, combat chest rig, ballistic padding and blast collar. Additional features include a a backup redundancy battery, emergency release mechanism and compatibility with all existing Praetorian equipment and battle systems.
  • Praetorian Enhanced Tactical Operations Helmet - The TacOps helmet is one of many in the Praetorian Headgear range, this helmet was specially developed for military purposes and not just sold to the UEC but to PMC's and anybody who had enough money to throw away. The TacOps Helmet boasts a plethora of features, first and foremost it protects against small arms and medium arms fire with its Kevlar and Carbon Nanotube composition, it also hosts an on board computer which provides tactical battlefield awareness, multi-channel long range coms and integration with most other civilian and military battle networks. The TacOps helmet also houses a foldable faceplate with Enhanced Vision goggles, providing not only night-vision but thermal detection in low visibility environments and beams critical information into the retina of the operator. The mouthpiece contains a microphone but also a filter that can detect harmful particles in the air and filters not only smoke and dust debris, but harmful airborne toxins.



Personality: Bayard is a pragmatic and weathered individual, a seasoned warrior with years of experience under his belt he knows to take nothing at face value. In his youth, Bayard was a bit of a wildcard and a loose cannon, not to say he isn't today but in comparison to his hayday, Bayard now knows the consequences of his actions as a leader and as a soldier and takes a little more care when carrying out his duties. Off the battlefeild he isn't much of a talker and spends most of his days in a semi-drunken stupor, on the exterior it appears that he cares about little other than when the next fight is and when they get paid, but in secret, he pines for his estranged family, and to remit the damage he has caused.

Skills:
  • Tactician: A soldier may be good with a rifle and a pilot good with a Knight, but a tactician knows how to use both in tandem. Bayard is not only a seasoned soldier, but a commander also, he knows how to read a battlefield and knows what to do to tip the odds in his favor.
  • Inspirational Leader: Mercenaries work for money, true. Mercenaries care about little else than money, also true. But despite this, Bayard inspires those under his command and inspires morale within his ranks.
  • Survivalist: There can be many times when a person finds themselves away from shelter, comfort and safety. Living on a wild planet combined with the natural senses of a soldier and Bayard knows how to survive for extended periods of time with little in the way of equipment.

Weaknesses:
  • Cold-Blooded: Casualties are just a figure to Bayard, he knows that people die in war and that death is just another inevitability.
  • Alcoholic: When not on duty, Bayard enjoys or rather, needs a strong beverage, Whiskey being his poison of choice.
  • Untrusting: Bayard trusts nobody but himself or his closest allies, everyone else he suspects is out to get him.


Misc. Details: Bayard has a faded scar over his right cheek and burn scarring on his lower back. He also has a tattoo of a bear clutching a sword in its maw on his chest, a symbol of his unit when serving with the UEC.

Equipment:
  • XENO Railgun - The XENO Railgun is exactly that, a Railgun. Whilst Railgun technology still remains much out of reach to develop into man portable systems, a mech can handle the immense weight and recoil that a weapon like this possesses. The XENO is developed from vehicle based platforms and condensed into a weapon that is wieldable by a Knight. The weapon is powered by a large on-board reactor and utilizes several highly powerful magnets to propel a ferric-tungsten projectile at incredible speeds and distances, the warhead can be a simple armor piercing round or something more specialized such as high explosive, thermobaric or fragmentation tips.
  • Wrist mounted Multiple Rocket System - A detachable gauntlet on the Barracudas left arm means that it can launch a barrage of high explosive rockets to decimate hostile infantry, structures or other Knights in its path, it can fire a total of 12 rockets in one salvo and can reload a total of four times before exhausting its ammo capacity.
  • 'Harpoon' Ballistic Projectile Interception/Countermeasure System - A trophy system for all intents and purposes. Attached to the rear power pack, the Harpoon packs a multitude of high fidelity sensors and high speed cameras integrated into the Barracudas AI system that can locate, identify, track and ultimately intercept incoming threats such as rockets, grenades and other slow/medium speed projectiles. To do this it has an array of tools at its disposal, firstly in can launch a 'prong' packed with a small explosive charge, mostly used against large rockets and the like, for smaller threats it uses a high power laser to overheat and destroy, lastly it can deploy a burst of electric smoke which can confuse tracking and locking systems for a short amount of time.

Misc. Details: The Barracuda Class Knight, developed to rival the Bear series of Knight utilized by the UEC. The Barracuda was adopted by Salient as its frontline Knight unit, funded by the UEC which was ironic considering they refused to arm them with their own Bear series, the Barracuda was initially only intended as a crowd control and riot suppressant unit, utilizing only non-lethal weapons against crows of unruly colonists, but after the Atlas incident and the quick militarization of Colonial factions, the Barracuda was re-tooled to fit its initial purpose, combat. The Barracuda boasts an almost impenetrable armor shell, sacrificing maneuverability and nimble movement to become a practical walking tank, shaking the ground wherever it moves.

1) If you're willing, I'd like to have the faction be employed by the UEC as an auxiliary force that is able to do unconventional and...*ahem* unwanted work. You don't have to be bloodthirsty savages, you'd just be doing what you're paid to do, and that's stomping down on some insurrectionists.

2) Totally. A good reference would be the Titanfall games, but feel free to run whatever you would like to see by me. I'll likely accept it as long as it isn't too outlandish.

Could I be an admiral of the Minutemen Merchant Marines? Just a few freighters that ship supplies for the cause while hoping they don't get shot down by the UEG Navy.
If anyone askes where we were Saturday at 14:30, we were at The Pub, understand?

-No Combat Ready unit has ever passed inspection.
-No Inspection Ready unit has ever passed combat.
-There is nothing more satisfying to you then having the enemy shoot at you, and miss.
-Remember, your weapon was made by the lowest bidder.

If that's what you wish. So you know, most of the fighting takes place either on Eden or on the various outposts. I can't guarantee there will be much to do as a captain of a ship.

Appearance: He has worn out grey eyes, with a gruff beard and long hair he has combed back. He's six foot tall and usually wears the standard grey utility uniform.
Equipment: Utility uniform, a revolver as a sidearm, and other simple equipment a non-combatant would have.
Personality: John is a gruff man, but once you get to know him he is like a father figure, telling stories of old times and trying to keep everyone safe and in line. He is a more than competent leader, and has committed himself to the cause the best way he can, by shipping supplies directly into war zones.
Skills: Leadership, and decades of experience of space flight
Weaknesses: He usually avoids militaristic confrontation unless absolutely necessary.

She is also extremely protective of her people, leading her several times into confrontation with the expeditionary forces (events she has only managed to survive so far due to the fact that the soldier in question was often in the wrong when she sent him packing, bat a swinging).

This is driven in part over her guilt for ‘letting’ her brother engage in protests against the UEC (as though she could have stopped him).
  • Poorly Supplied: The Frontiersman are already limited in the amount of supplies they can steer into the fight and can not send much, if anything, to their partisans on the other side of the front lines. What The Southern Frontier has is gathered mostly from supplies raided from the occupying expeditionary force.
Misc. Details:
    Lucrezia is, by day, a loyal if somewhat contrarian citizen of UEC occupied Southern Eden. She is the owner of The Lost Paradise, a tavern and brothel within UEC held territory and frequented by the soldiers and mercenaries brought in to restore UEC control. By night, however, she is one of the leaders of The Southern Frontier, a resistance movement which works as a Frontiersmen fifth column deep behind enemy lines. The several of the prostitutes employed by The Lost Paradise engage their customers in pillow talk to gather intelligence for Lucrezia which she uses to disrupt the expeditionary forces through sabotage, assassination and other activities to undermine the UEC.

    While never particularly fond of the UEC, Lucrezia initially eschewed active resistance to the expeditionary forces. This changed following her brother’s death during the Atlas Incident. Now galvanized by her loss, Lucrezia began using her tavern to help the Frontiersmen as their campaign of harassment against the UEC boiled over into open warfare. Despite having the loyalty of the local population, the Frontiersmen were overwhelmed in the area and Lucrezia found herself within the UEC’s sphere of control. Frontiersman loyalist remained despite the retreat and embedded themselves within the local population. Several months later, an old friend of her brothers, Adrian Monroe, quietly approached her seeking help in relocating her brother’s knight, Chesapeake. Adrian and his Southern Froniersmen, with her aid, almost had Chesapeake moved out of the valley when they were discovered by the soldiers of the expeditionary force. Adrian was injured in the attack and in desperation and fear, Lucrezia jumped into the Chesapeake desperately hoping to escape with her life. Remembering a time her brother had taken her with him to pilot the knight so she could learn to do it herself, the controls soon responded to her desires. She killed the enemy forces and hid Chesapeake in a cave she could access from the warehouse behind her tavern. Since then she has become another leader of The Southern Frontier along with Adrian Monroe.

“Ain’t no problem, boss,” said Raymond. “Just makin’ sure this nigger here knows I take no orders from him.” Big Jim, the tall negro Raymond was arguing with, looked over at his boss and said nothing.

“Oh, but you do,” replied William.

“What?” asked Raymond with a confused look.

“I said you do take orders from that nigger there. That nigger there is my nigger. Big Jim has been riding with me for several years now. I know him. I know his mind. I trust him. You been here a month. I don’t know you, not yet. And so I will place you under a man I do trust. And you will take his orders.”

“And I’m telling you I don’t take no orders from no goddam nigger.”

“Then I do believe you do not have a place in my organization.”

“You want to say that again?”

“You may pack your things,” William waved dismissively. Raymond looked around, then huffed and went for his pack which he began stuffing with his belongings. With that infinite calm he usually displays, William reached down into a tool crate and pulled up a hammer by it’s head. With a gentle toss he flipped it around to hold the hand and then with an ungentle swing he smashed Raymond in the back of the head.

The outlaw fell to the ground, dazed. He tried to look around and William swung the hammer again, striking him on the side of the head. With savagery and rage, William struck Raymond over and over again until the head was a bloody mess. The man was clearly dead. Big Jim watched on calmly.

William stood and composed himself. He grabbed the kerchief from Raymonds neck and calmly wiped the blood from the head as he began speaking.

“Let this be a lesson. When I give an order, it will be obeyed. When I tell you to take orders from someone, you will obey that person as though they were me, regardless if they are a nigger, or an injun, or the lowest Mexican whore in the brothel. You will obey them because that’s what the plan requires. Are there any questions?” There were none.

“Arthur, Jim, Frank, come with me.” William made his way back to the side of the camp. The three men he called for followed him. “I’m going to Tombstone, get the lay of the land. Silvermines there are producing a lot of metal and I want us to get our cut of that. I need information before I make the plan. Until I send for the gang, you three need to make sure that you ride herd on the others. Keep them in line.”

“Shouldn’t be too hard after the display you just made in there, boss,” said Frank.

“You gonna need help in Tombstone?” asked Jim.

“I’ll let you know if I do,” William replied.



Then Chrion wheeled about and right and said
to Nessus: "Then return and be their guide;
If other troops disturb you, fend them off."
Now with our faithful escort, we advanced
along the bloodred, boiling ditch’s banks,
beside the piercing cries of those who boiled.
I saw some who were sunk up to their brows,

William sat quietly reading his book as the train rumbled along. The bandage he had tied to his face covered the distinctive scar on the side of his face. He was dressed pleasantly, if not finely, with bowler hat. He had his lips pulled into a light, unthreatening smile. Amazing how such tiny expressions can put others at ease. Even as he read, he took in his surroundings. The others riding on the train, the landscape thundering past. The yellow tinted glasses he wore filtered out the sunlight when he looked outside, eliminating the need to allow his eyes to adjust.

A man not far from where William sat was fidgeting with his gun. Nervous sort. Can be dangerous if not properly handled.

When they came under attack while attempting to quietly move the knight, Lucrezia got into the pilot’s seat and saved the resistance fighters. She is now Chesapeake’s full time pilot.

Just a quick question, if my mech ended up being more like a spider-tank/mech combination rather than a proper, bipedal mech, would it still be allowed? And if it is, what kind of class do you think it would be?

Sounds like it would be more of 'bear' class to me. Having trouble picturing eight legs as being particularly fast moving for the kind of thing we're talking about but it would be extremely stable.

Conner along with a team was sent to defend the settlement and after a grueling battle. The monster was killed and the settlement was saved. After seeing a monster first hand, he would realized how bad the huntsmen were needed. Since then has become the leader of the Huntsmen after the last leader died and the pasted the role to Conner. Conner so far. has done what most Huntsmen have done and still remains neutral in the fight for the planet.

Well, it actually has four legs, which can alternate between wheels/treads and a clawed form to maximise effectiveness in rougher forms of terrain, although I can see how the term 'spider-tank' would be misleading in that regard. But that being said, do you think that means it would be allowed in?

Depends on how you plan on using it. Would it be like a tank, on the front lines dishing out damage, or would it use its enhanced stability to use a long range rifle?
