Our Kalif, successor to our Prophet, was formally recognized as successor by his marriage to the Prophet's niece, our Nuncia to the World Assembly, in accordance with Kawaiian laws on inheritance.

Kawaiians have a slightly different set of laws on inheritance and succession than most cultures. In Kawaiian law, property is held by women, but managed by men. So even though our culture is largely patriarchal, a family's property is actually the wife's, even though her husband administers it. Inheritance is through the female line, from mother to daughter. This means the administration of family property goes from father-in-law to son-in-law.

Our Prophet had no wife or other family, but because his niece's parents perished in the kaiju attacks that laid waste to the old Kawaiian homeland, she became his "daughter" by Kawaiian family law. As his daughter, she in theory possessed the Prophet's mantle of leadership. Although our Kalif was the Prophet's chosen successor, for him to exercise that mantle, it was necessary for him to marry her.

Currently our Kalif and Nuncia have no children. The Cute One willing, the Kalifate, the office of Kawaiian religious leadership, will eventually go to whatever young man marries their daughter, should they be so blessed.
