Feng: Blood and Fire [Archived]

1. Project officially relaunched late last year, and though the same challenges that bogged down last attempt to finalize the series remains; lack of planning from previous writing resulted with constant changes in the published story. This time no 'In Character' thread will be published before the planning and drafts has been finalized.

2. The Project will see total remodeling of the entire Feng official canon, while some semblance of the old Feng will be maintained (character names, places, events with SACTO-verse, IFC-verse etc etc), majority of the old Feng events will be redacted, nullified and retconned (Eg. Deian's unrealistic original working on the Feng's history). (Aeyariss' comments: Too much geographic wanking, I can't work based on that and since this is a combination of several SACTO-verse canons things must blended in together to a more acceptable level.)

3. Well this project should no longer be considered as a tribute project but instead, let's consider this like 'Disney acquiring rights to Star Wars and booted out George Lucas' kind of a thing. Officially a 'nation burial', this series is designed to dismantle and destroy the so called 'Great' Feng in its entirety.

4, In this current version, the "Great" Feng will be smaller in terms of territories; Deian's original vision the Feng spanned from China, entire South East Asia, to Iraq and as far as Africa will reduced to mainland China and some parts of mainland South East Asia only. (This is going to be finalized soon).

5. There are changes as to how this project is going to be finalized, original plan was that this is going to become some hybrid novel - roleplay; then a 10 part mini series, a 50 'episodes' series. Presently, there are no concrete plans, but each finalized publication is expected to be around 5,000-10,000 words each. Well, I plan to introduce deadline for each of those, just to keep myself disciplined and to motivate myself in writing.

6. Since this entire project is similar in terms of size to the epic Romance of the Three Kingdoms this project will consist of several hundreds characters.

7. This project is expected to take the entire 2017 to be finished. (I will take it slowly as I can only focus when RL ends has been well taken care of).

8. New Aeyaris (Cuscy) and I remains as the showrunner, and executive producers. While Aravea remains in consultancy roles. We will fine a way to allow others to participate in the future.

I'm definitely interested. Despite the sentiments of my regionmates, I considered Feng a very good friend of mine, and I'd like to see him sent off properly.

Well not many people are too fond with Deian, it's rare to see someone considering him as a friend. I have to ask you, what do you have in mind? And what sort of roles and goal do you see your self in this project?

My Canon leaves me very small, so I feel like my role would be more diplomatic; however, my miliary is sizable enough for me to do some expansion as well. It really depends on which casus belli i am first presented with.

Well such participation is more suitable in a conventional RP; this is everything but that. Still, I'd be happy to accommodate to everyone who wishes to tie up lose ends with Feng, so why don't you stick around, and see this story project develops and figure out how you contribute to the story best.

FENG: BLOOD AND FIRE
Preliminary Story Draft

Work in Progress, the following scenes are not necessarily arranged chronologically.

Prologue

In SOUTHERN FENG, the Buddhist resurgence (Eight Lotus Movement) secret meeting - which was discussing their future agenda - was betrayed to the Ministry of State Security which raided and killed most of the senior leadership. After a desperate battles that ends up with many of MSS and the Resurgence forces killed, CHANG JING TAO escaped with the remnants of his sect and found himself as one of the surviving leader. He vowed to destroy the Feng Dynasty.

/Notes: Cuscy will write down the technical and tactical aspect of the attack; while I plans to wrote dialogues for several characters and to introduce the anti-hero of the series).

Chapter 1

In YUJING, the capital city in CENTRAL FENG, the CHIEF OF STAFF, informed the PREMIER YAN about the 'successful' attack, who then boast to his inner circle cronies about the stability of the regime and how the enemies will be crushed. His followers congratulates him, but cautioned him as there are pressing matter that they must address; Feng entrance to the NIHONESE EMPIRE, and the rising tide of discontent about the unilateral government decision, and also of the ARAVEAN IMPERIUM issue which will be sending their new replacement Imperial Protector; a young 16 years old IOHAN VON ANDRESOVA who they expected will become 'another nuisance' as they rant about Feng-Aravean relations.

MARSHAL YAN told the group they will bring the enemies closer and one that the Feng will rise to thwart all of them in a single blow; killing two birds with one stone, and then finally they talked about how 'the International Freedom Coalition is going to pay for expelling the Feng.' when their plans succeeded. Before this chapter ends, they talked about the possibility of another Southern Military Campaign in mainland South East Asia and how captured resources can be used to bolster the weakening economic conditions.

In YUJING, COLONEL LEE ZHAO FENG arrived at Central Command HQ, the heart of the imperial administration to begin his work for the Ministry of Defense, which jurisdiction overlaps with the secretive MSS, and met his senior commanding officer the Ministry of Defense, who quickly straightened him on the true nature of working in Central Command.

Prince IOHAN and his entourage arrived in Yujing, and was greeted by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Aravean Ambassador to Feng. His Chief of Staff/ Maid Lady MIRANA complained to him that Iohan is being exiled, and warned him 'to watch his mouth'.(POV: IOHAN VON ANDRESOVA)

In Nihon, the Shogun Maki Kojiro met with Admiral Teinosuke, who will soon departs for Yujing, and the chapters concludes that a change is coming for Feng.

(/Note: Need to discuss with Cuscy about the tone and purpose of this rather dark scene, the purpose of the rest of scenes is to introduce the key characters of the series and provide background information on the current states of Feng)

Seriously, though, I'd like to try out a far more sinister version of my own canon here. It'd be fascinating, and the unscrupulousness lends itself to superpower status which would suit the RP well.

I'm still figuring how to allow others to participate and contribute to this project; like I wrote in the OP and in the Production Notes, this whole project isn't designed as a conventional roleplay where nationstates take actions and imparts their own influence over one another (Eg. If we do RP about it, surely everyone will jump in and grab Feng territories for themselves, which is not what we had envisioned for the end of Feng) but more like a long term collaborative novel writing project (Central plots, theme, characters development).

Hence before the team allows participation we need to know if people can commit for the long term and strife for some serious hardcore writing. (Previous examples; each 'publication' more than 3,000 - 5,000 words), and there will be RL constrain in completing this project.

So far and in the past the Team work based on consensus; the executive producers decided on a coordinated and universal set of events in the series; with Cuscy and I responsible for individual story arc and work together to unify and tie all those events into a major over arching timeline in the series conclusion. So there will not be independent actions like how conventional RP is being run.

And the Feng depicted in this series has been re-imagined and will not be same special snowflake version that we all are familiar with. (Deian may not like that, but then again that's the reason we are burying this canon universe).

I understand it's not going to be a conventional RP. I just wanted to help contribute some to the ideas and what not. I know I'm not the best when it comes to RPing (both my technical knowledge and writting skill have much to be desired), but I wanted to do something to help send off his nation.

Alright, since there are more people interested in contributing, I will lay down the general theme, settings, coordinated events and plots. Then perhaps we can see if you wish to try contributing like how Cuscy and I are attempting right now; each writers creating one key characters and writes based on the themes, setting, coordinated events. Each characters will have their own goals, challenges to get them and in getting through it, experience their own character developments - of course they will interact with other players character as well (we're going to decide how later on) - and other static characters.

Finally, in the climactic finale where lots and lots and lots of Deian's original characters is going to be killed off we tie everyone individual story arcs into a cohesive story line and end in a beautiful ending and end this project with a big 300x point THE END. (I've never been in any RP that ends that way), and hopefully we all will be satisfied with the project and Deian can rest well knowing we taken care of his 'legacy'.

This is one project where we won't be focusing on individual nationstates; if that be the case; I can just declare Feng as part of some shitty third world Aeyariss Empire territories.

Posting you a short preview:

Religion. No matter how noble the truths it preached were, there were always those who were eager to make them far more... violent. Humans, greedy and aggressive creatures they are, found perfect justification in their gods for shedding each others blood. After all, what kind of war could be more glorious than one guaranteeing you eternal life in case of dying on the battlefield, and glory of a holy warrior in case of victory? It could have been said that at one point humans completely deified war to the point where it became a goal in itself. Various churches, straying away from the original teachings, traded their faith for power exactly like whores trade their bodies, and armies of various "holy warriors" raped, burned, plundered and murdered with God's name on their lips.

Buddhism, which urban legends credited with peace and calmness, was at this field equal to Islam or Christianity in amount of destructive potential it could have generated - but it's teachings could reach level of absurdity at times. While many religions taught that it is permissible to kill other man - and specified circumstances for it - the abstract thinking of chen Buddhism generated one absurd idea after another, such as that by killing a man you done him mercy by releasing him from his suffering and making him better being in his next incarnation.

Such was the case with the Green Turbans sect, currently one of major nuisance generator in Fengese Empire. While Christianity has been spreading here even since 1600s, Buddhism never stopped to exist, especially in the countryside, where it held to it's traditions of old. Feng was, after all, over a billion people numerous nation; and even small minorities that in other lands were insignificant, here numbered in millions. Everything was on grander scale, with grander potential to explode. Yet white Turbans sect emerged only recently, by teachings of a monk known as Chang Jingtao, and broke off from mainstream chen buddhism; it became completely new form of this faith, believing in imminent coming of the Matireya Buddha, conquest of the world under his leadership and establishment of the Kingdom of White Lotus. Heavens were to turn green (and the sect even paid few scientists to create a bogus scientific reason for it to happen) ushering a new era of universal peace and brotherhood between all men under Matireya Buddha's leadership. At this moment, Green Turbans Sect was seen as one of major threats to national security, quickly gathering believers by use of high technology, social networking and other creative means to recruit it's members. Aside from that however, it's popularity was heavily supported by it's anti-Nifonese stance, such as infamous condemnation of Shogun Kojiro as incarnation of Mara. Nowdays, when most of the churches were siding with the Nifonese, such movement had potential for recruitment of vast numbers of followers.

And that is why Richard Takeda was here. He rode slowly in a dark Tojota pickup through the mountainous region where Green Turbans sect held one of it's main areas by what was called "resistance bases" in Maoist thought. While alien to communist ideology, Green Turbans sect eagerly assimilated People's War as military doctrine to the point where it became a literal "Nirvana War" grounded in their religious thought. Now, a major meeting of whole Green Turbans leadership was going to be held in secret, and he was to be allowed as an official delegate of Hayabusa-gumi - a crime syndicate from Nifon that majority of members recruited from Buddhist minority. For that reason both groups enjoyed ideological and commercial partnership, and Hayabusa-gumi provided Green Turbans sect with weaponry it needed to stage it's future uprising.

Slowly, he stopped his pickup before a massive cavern. Eight figures emerged from the shadows, each of them clad with olive robes of buddhist monk covering their entire bodies, olive clothes covering their faces, and olive drab chest rigs placed on them, holding menacingly looking Arakawa Type 6 rifles in their hands, carefully looking around in search of eventual foes. Four of them instantly formed cover for the talk, kneeling behind various objects and directing their rifles forward, searching for any potential threats. Remaining four went to the lone man, with their leader speaking in hushed voice:

"Password!" he quietly uttered.

"Golden Lotus!" Takeda smiled towards him, showing his silver teeth.

"Get in. Chang is awaiting you!" the Buddhist militant shown him way inside.

He slowly drove inside, before parking the car and emerging from it. Only now everyone inside could have seen his true shape: Richard was rather small man, merely 160 centimeters tall. His head was ended in raven like hair <more detailed description to come".

Before long, he noticed a short buddhist monk coming towards him. Everyone could have said that this one resembled caricatures drawn by the Americans in 1940s - long, pointy eyes, bold head, small round glasses on his eyes, and big mouth decorated his face. He would have looked almost like a funny old man if not the Ak-74 on his chest. This was one of major leaders of the Green Turbans sect, Chang Jingtao.

"Good day to you, mr. Takeda. Have you brought me more tools we need to spin the wheel of samsara?" spoke Chang Jingtao in low voice as he looked at the pickup. In response, Takeda rose up and took one of large boxes that laid on his car, opening it beneath the legs of buddhist warlord:

"SMD-12 Ain Jault" Nifonese arms dealer smiled "Riysan made, maybe not newest one, but will still be effective. I brought you give launching units with five missiles to each. Getting even them through Kojiro's dishonorable thugs was a nightmare, but we have far more coming. That would be N$D 735 000 in total. "

"Good" smiled the Buddhist monk "Our special operations unit will need them very soon. Please follow me!"

They went through a system of caverns, where strange scenes were happening around. Most people thought that Buddhism was about peace - for this men it was only about violence. Before Takeda a group of people were rising their Arakawa Type 6 rifles to take a shot against a shield, with their instructor - a tall and muscular monk - saying:

"Remember, empty your mind! It is not you who shoots - it is the Buddha himself. Control your breath like on your breathing exercises. Nothing else except the shot matters. Empty your mind..."

They passed next to this group and through several others which practiced ancient buddhist martial arts, the kung fu of old that never was forgotten. Hand clashed against hand, leg against leg as the martial artists from this strange terror movement spared against each other, spinning in the air like dust on the wind when they attempted to target each other vital organs. After all, local styles of Kung Fu were always known for dynamic, majestic techniques involving complex acrobatics in the air. But for them it was more - a form of a "martial yoga" that allowed them to empty their mind and reach the connection with the Budhha, which they will use next to send those who disagree with Green Lotus teachings into their next lives. But even more amazing sight was happening near an enormous, snake-shaped stalagmite, where sat a group of Buddhist monks in the meditation pose, with their leader speaking.

"Students, it is time for a meditation on Buddhist operational art. Remember that the philosophical absolute, dao, in operational art can be only understood if you empty your mind. To properly defeat your enemy you need to look at yin and yang, combine the orthodox and unorthodox..."

They slowly approached the grand cavern where the meeting between various leaders was going to be held...

Regiment Commander Shiba Katsuyori slowly drank his kombucha, putting it next to his wide arm. Bushido Solutions Ltd. had no military ranks, only occupations. Thus, one in charge of squad was "squad leader" and the commanders were put in their positions on basis of their performance in past operations. If he had to be frank, Katsoyori detested doing what was about to happen; yet Feng government paid Bushido too much money for this operation to be unfulfilled.

"Our man is in!" came a shout from the background.

Now the real play was about to begin.

Status Update:

1. Good News: Overall the project is still in planning process; and like I wrote in the previous posts, I'd prefer a thorough outline instead of 'pantsing' around the keyboard. Gosh, I never get to finish my writings that way, to be honest, so I'd love to have a concrete clear outlined before I begin writing.

2. Bad News: RL issues caught up with me (despite my best effort), and as a result I no longer have the free time to roam online and not sure if I can fully enjoy RPing or writing here as a hobbies but I hate and wont give up after publicly declaring that "I am going to burn Feng in such an epic way." but then again Feng is officially dead, and this is merely the novelization of the event that had took place.

I apologize to all who had expressed their interests, looks like I won't be able to coordinate and integrate the multiple ideas or concepts that you lot had forwarded me in the mean time. Hopefully in the future I can do that.

Original publication date for this story was 26th December 2017; now its unlikely that I can maintain the schedule, so final completion is...I am afraid...whenever its finished.

Probably a good news: I think I figured out a way to let everyone who know Feng and interested in contributing to the project; I will outline the nuts and bolts of the novel in the future, and then divide the writings into something like a TV drama style - that way everyone can contribute to an 'Episode' based on the overall story arc. Background Settings

Draft Version: Not Finalized; Definitely, Subject To Changes

In this alternate timeline, the Feng Dynasty had replaced the Qing Dynasty at the beginning of the 18th century, and its Emperors had practically ushered in an era of Westernization and modernization – adapting western technologies for her industries and military; embracing Christianity as its official religion, replacing the traditional belief systems – and for the next the half a century the Feng had risen to become one of more the influential power in Asia.

However, in its ascension as a great power, the Feng abandoned the traditional aspect of the Middle Kingdom, ending the practice of tributary-vassal systems (in which previously, smaller and weaker states kowtowed to the Middle Kingdom through tributaries) and like most Western great powers throughout the 19th century, the Feng expanded her territories through imperialism and colonial conquests the 19th century; making it as one of the most aggressive nation-states in the history of Asia (Conquered Indo-China and major part of the Philippines island and threatened the rest of South East Asia). It was during this turbulent time that several other great powers rose in the Asia-Pacific; the Nifonese Shogunate (later Greater Nihon Empire) in which during the era known as Kojiro Restoration, went on to rise as a great power of their own and the Aeyariss Empire.

In the end of the 19th century, the Feng launched a failed campaign to conquer the Nifonese Homeland, and the most disastrous military blunder in history marked the beginning of the end. In retaliation, the Nifonese Shogunate captured the Korean Peninsula and several other territories in Manchuria, gaining access to the heartland of the Feng Empire and annexed Taiwan into its own, while replacing the Feng as overlord of the northern islands of the Philippines. Yet, the Nifonese being primarily a naval power, and the Feng a predominantly continental power meant neither side can completely dominate one another completely. Though war was never officially declared, that incident remained to torn the relations between the two empires.

Aeyariss Empire, from its location in Australelis, meanwhile, have not venture out of what it considered its sphere of influence – the entire African continent, and maritime South East Asia – where several key protectorates had joined the Aeyariss Alliance (Federation of Malaya, and the Republic of Sumatera, which themselves feared for Feng conquest, had sided with the more prosperous and technologically advanced Aeyariss Empire). In Archangel, the House of Shivariii practiced the tributary-protectorate system; placing the lesser power in South East Asia in its security umbrella and shielded them against other great power expansionism, as a result, the Aeyariss came close to armed conflict with the Feng Empire several times in its history. However, compared to Nifonese-Feng relations, though it remained challenged and competitive, Archangel-Yujing relations are warmer when compared to the hostile Yujing-Mandukuro relations.

In the 20th century, the Feng situation continued to deteriorate; due to its vast size, development were focused more on its urban areas, and to the coastline areas, resulting with the interior hinterland suffering from gross uneven development, education and social welfare did not reached far outside the urban areas. A failed experiment with democracy in the 1950s led to the rise of more radical factions in the central government as the Feng Dynasty fearful of losing grasp of power ended up becoming more suppressive and authoritarian – the Ministry of State Security spied and targeted its own citizens, while the corrupt Church of Feng, the official version of Christianity sponsored by the central government attempted to indoctrinate the rest of society. When the major empires in the region obtained nuclear weapons later in the century, open armed conflict were mitigated as no empires – Feng, Aeyariss, Nifonese – want to risk for a nuclear exchanges. Thus, a state of cold peace was maintained throughout the rest of the 20th century.

In the 21st century however, Feng – still in its slide to the bottom – became even worst. 9 years ago, in 2008, the Feng household suffered its greatest loss when a renegade faction in the military attempted to massacre the entire members of the Feng Dynasty, and the only surviving son of the late Emperor, then a 5 years old Prince Yan Guo, ascending to the throne of Feng with another survivor Lord Prince Yin Long becoming the Uncle Regent, and Lord Marshal of the Imperial Armed Forces as well as the Prime Minister. The Marshal-Premier then led to the cleansing of the majority of the central government and military high command, replacing them with his own people – and strengthened the ever suppressive Ministry of State Security.

(Interestingly, a similar incident took place in Archangel, Aeyariss back in 2007 when almost the entirety of the Shivarii household branch was massacred in a royal celebration, resulting with a brief power struggle that saw the rise of the previously unheard members of the Shivariii family – Raizen, then 17 – rise to the throne of Aeyariss).

However, in Yujing, rumors went around saying that it was the Marshal-Premier who is responsible for the entire incident, but the incident were suppressed from public. Indeed, Yin Long intended the throne for his own self, yet the unexpected survival of young Yan Guo drew public sympathy and he did not wish to risk the wrath of the general population, therefore he settled for the position of a mere ‘Regent’, but in actuality, holds the absolute power in the entire Middle Kingdom.
