Taxation in your nation

Postby 2nd Brazilian Empire » Wed Dec 14, 2016 3:15 pm

Taxes are an amount of money levied on the income of an individual, the profit of a corporation,

Does your nation have taxation at all or is it theft?
If your nation does, what taxes exist? Is tax evasion common? How do taxes affect people and the economy?

Code: Select all
Is there any taxation in your nation?
If yes, what are the most important existent taxes?
Is tax evasion common?
How does taxes affect people and the economy in overall?

Is there any tax in your nation? Yes.
If yes, what are the most important existent taxes? - Flat income tax at 15%
- Corporation tax at 18%
- Business tax at 12%
- Sales tax at 10%
- Innheritance tax at 3%
- Fuel Tax at 10%
- variable Ecotaxes from 2% to 10%
- Stamp duty of 3% on purchased vehicles
- Imports Tax at 9%
Is tax evasion common? Yes, mostly among corporations and very wealthy individuals.
How does taxes affect people in overall? The flat tax is the target of criticism from the poor and the socialists, however, the parliament never demonstrated an interest in changing this tax. Anyway, most people are happy about the low tax rates, though there is always the ancap minority who is never pleased.

- Corporation Tax: 9% (-3% if the corporation is younger than 1 year) of Profit

Yes.

Everyone pays a flat 10% tax on what they earn. Religions apart from Megatronism also pay a 20% tax. Tobacco and alcohol have a 25% tax. There was a 20% tax on blacks but our sapient pony President Clever One abolished it along with the other racist laws of Vallermoore.

Is there any taxation in your nation? Yes

If yes, what are the most important existent taxes? Taxes on non-Megatronist religion and on cigarettes and alcohol.

Is tax evasion common? Yes, there are many alcohol and tobacco smugglers.

How does taxes affect people and the economy in overall? Not badly as most of them are light.

If yes, what are the most important existent taxes?
- Progressive income tax with brackets ranging from 18% to 49% (regional government may levy up to 8% more flat).
- Flat corporate tax of 20%.
- National sales tax of 10%. (regional government may levy an additional 5%, local an additional 5%)
- Inheritance tax at 12%.
- Property taxes of 0% nationally (regional government may tax properties up to 1.0% of value, local government up to 1.5%)
Is tax evasion common? Semi-common, most often by using loopholes which is a favoured method of the Venadian upper-middle class and larger corporations.
How does taxes affect people and the economy in overall? That's quite a complex question. If it had an easy answer, we wouldn't need politicians and economists. Overall, the Venadian economy is doing fairly well, and the average Venadian as well, with Venadia having a developed economy. If that would be better or worse with higher or lower public spending is a matter of debate.

Good for the economy and good for the people in general. If you evade it... as many companies have done, they get hit with a massive fine. Macrosoft-Pear got hit with a €468 billion fine after evading tax. The tax destroyed Macrosoft-Pear. Today Gaggle-Yahuu is the biggest company, making phones and searchengines

Is there any taxation in your nation? Yes
If yes, what are the most important existent taxes? Income tax (4.4% of a person's income)
Is tax evasion common? Yes. Religious establishments do not have to pay taxes, and the elites within my nation can find loopholes within the tax laws to pay little to no taxes.
How does taxes affect people and the economy in overall? The taxes play a small part in the nation, primarily funding religious activities and defense.

Is there any taxation in your nation? Yes.
If yes, what are the most important existent taxes?
    Central Taxes
    1. Personal Income Tax
    2. Corporate Revenue Tax
    3. Property Transfer Income Tax (assessed on income from trade involving buildings)
    4. Excise (assessed on demerit goods like alcohol, tobacco, and video games)
    5. Tariffs
    6. Salt Tax (assessed on salt production)
    7. Estate (inheritance) Tax
    8. Transfer Tax (assessed on gifts over a certain value)
    9. Mineral Duty (assessed on mines and quarries)
    10. Freight Duty (assessed on transit of freight over long distances)
    11. Stamp Duty
    Provincial Taxes
    1. Sales Tax (assessed on sales of goods and services)
    2. Land Tax (assessed on non-agricultural land according to area)
    3. Land Value Tax (assessed on difference in land value at point of sale, on the seller)
    4. Land Value Added Tax
    5. Vehicle License Tax (assessed on vehicle licensing procedures)
    6. Fuel Tax (assessed on consumption of fuel)
    County Taxes
    1. Property Tax (assessed on buildings according to coverage area and ratio)
    2. Land Improvement Tax
    3. Agricultural Duty (assessed on agricultural land)
    4. Restaurant Tax (assessed on restaurant consumption for parties of 10 or more)
    5. Abattoir Tax (assessed through a fixed rate for each type of animal per carcass)
    6. Entertainment Tax (assessed on theatres, cinemas, and hotels, on the consumer per use)
    7. Household Duty (a fixed amount each household)
    8. Contract Duty (assessed on total value of building transaction, on the buyer)
Is tax evasion common? Yes.
How does taxes affect people and the economy in overall? It's heavily debated. While almost all parties agree that the current taxation base is too broad and the structure too complex, few have suggested doing anything about it.

A lot of the complex regarding tax on land and houses occurs because land and the buildings on it are taxed separately. At point of sale, the purchaser pays for Contract Duty, a form of transfer tax, assessed on the total value of the buildings on land, and the seller pays Property Transfer Income Tax, which is also assessed on the value of the building, and Land Value Tax, assessed on the difference in value between transactions. Numerous other duties also occur at point of sale. After sale, the proprietor pays Property Tax on the value of the buildings and Land Improvement Tax on the increasing value of the land not due to his own capital or labour. All this is in addition to Land Tax, which is assessed on the existing value of land. The complexity of the tax structure makes real estate trade quite hazardous in China.

The reason why land and buildings are taxes separately in China is because traditional Chinese buildings have no foundation and can (relatively, to western buildings) easily be removed from one property and replaced on another. However, it also means there can be confusion as to whether the land can be said to be improved if the value of the building is not included on it.

Is there any taxation in your nation? Yes.
If yes, what are the most important existent taxes? The Raid Tax - 10%. It is charged based on the Energon value of any loot stolen by raiding.
Is tax evasion common? No. The tax is charged on the spot when raw loot, such as crude oil, is converted to Energon at a Raid Dropoff Point. (Think of it sort of like a currency exchange). The only way to avoid the tax is to either leave your loot in its unusable, unrefined form, refine it yourself, or somehow find someone other than Megatron Energon to buy Energon from while using raw materials as a payment.

Note that we say "avoid." Tax evasion, as in the illegal withholding of the tax payment, is not a recognized concept. This is because Megatron Energon pretty much has a lock on the supply of Energon - as well as being one of only a few companies that can use great gobs of crude oil. Since there is a tax bot standing at each and every one of the company's Raid Dropoff Points, there isn't much of a chance to skip the tax when converting any decent quantity of loot.

How do taxes affect people and the economy in overall? The Raid Tax is actually pretty great for the people due to what it funds. It covers the cost of the Debugging Centers that provide certified-honest programmers who take care of coding glitches that arise in our scripting, funds the constant maintenance of Planet Cybertron itself, funds the National Fire Departments, and pays the day-to-day expenses of the Decepticon Military (which itself is responsible for trillions of Cubes' worth of physical upgrades and repairs every year since it routinely brings new conscripts up to Mil-Spec physical level even if they enter as rusty bums).

Economically, the economy would first see a little bubble if the tax was eliminated, but this would quickly be replaced by an economic depression and increased social chaos (of types we are not equipped to handle) due to the cessation of essential services. Before we had the Raid Tax, we tried depending on each other to do these things - we didn't want the government to do anything but field a fighting force to stop foreign attempts at interfering with us and our ways. However, it worked out very badly for one simple reason: We are Decepticons, and Decepticons gonna Decep at every possible opportunity even between each other. We had hackers pretending to be Debuggers, infrastructure contractors that just took the money and ran, and fire departments that lit the fires they would then charge to put out. Only by instituting the Raid Tax and nationalizing our most crucial services were these problems stopped in time to prevent the nation from effectively scamming itself to death.

Despite this, it is important to note that even now, Megatron has to say that the current system exists "for efficiency" or "for national security." If he ever, EVER, said that the changes were anti-corruption reforms, we would throw him in a slag pit for being an enemy of the Decepticon Way!
*Whispers* But it totally was and we all know it. It's just extremely politically unacceptable to say so because everyone would become terrified that the government may be trying to trick us into becoming like every other boring, living-dead, law-bound nation. With this stance, we make sure that such meddling only extends to THE ABSOLUTE MOST ESSENTIAL services and the government stays butted out of everything else, as it well should.

Taxes provide a powerful base for government income and spending. The immensely large income will always be used to fund government spending in three vital areas: education, healthcare, and infrastructure, which in turn will increase the productivity, quality, and efficiency of the people. The result of such increased productivity, quality, and efficiency will improve the micro economics and macro economics in Banten Sultanate.

Is there any taxation in your nation? No. However, in those Habitats which still retain money, all land/space is owned by the government and is leased out in exchange for payment, which is monetarily identical to a land value tax even if the administrative aspects are different (much harder to dodge, for example).

Is there any taxation in your nation? No, as the SSPR has no money in the everyday sense of the word. Labor time is our currency, which is either digitally recorded on a labor card everyone receives from the state or on a voucher or labor note. We used to have taxes way back when we didn't have the labor card and note system implemented yet, but even then they were low as many industries were and still are under state control. We're talking taxes of any kind up to 5%. Any higher taxation isn't usually needed by a socialist economy because there is no capitalism of any kind, unlike in a social democratic economy in which all the measures to alleviate capitalism swallow up a huge chunk of taxpayer money.

The rest of the questions are thus non-applicable to SSPR.

Is there any taxation in your nation?
Yes

If yes, what are the most important existent taxes?
Progressive Income Tax at average 1,8%. Land Value Tax at average 3%. Voluntary Imperial Tribute once per year, in the form of seashells, colorful stones, childish drawings, and other pretty things.
Capital Gains Taxes are forbidden, to encourage little investors. Taxes on the activities of our citizens in foreign countries is forbidden, for people should have the freedom to free their money from nationalist clutches (and this also encourages multinationals going to other countries, or moving their bases to Phantasia to not pay taxes like that to their countries). Tariffs on imports are forbidden to assure the practices of free-market. Inheritance Taxes are forbidden as they are against our vitalist philosophy.

Is tax evasion common?
No, as taxes are so low and punishment is quite severe (it can reach fines of 1000x the amount withheld).

How does taxes affect people and the economy in overall?
Taxes were very high before the conquest by the Enchanted Empire, so people are often in awe by the low taxation that we achieved. However, some people would accept to pay more taxes in return for more public works, in areas like education of quality for everyone, public healthcare, and public security.
Low taxation is often attributed as one of the main reasons of Phantasine economical growth, but so its technological advancement as well, and also early well planned subsidies and public-private cooperation. So we are unsure about what its best, low taxation or good government, and maybe we should somehow combine both.

Is there any taxation in your nation?
Yes. The federal constitution originally allocated most of the taxation power to regional governments (apart from the Federal Services Levy, Corporate Tax and Customs Duty), however a growing severe vertical fiscal imbalance, where the federal government was increasingly incurring added responsibilities and costs while relying on limited tax revenues, culminated in a highly-contested comprehensive taxation centralising and streamlining exercise in the 1980s, which saw the federal government for the first time activating its imperium eminens power under Article 11 of the constitution.

If yes, what are the most important existent taxes?
Federal levies
- Capital Gains Tax (12.5%–25%, regressively classed on asset-bearing length of time)
- Greenhouse Emissions Tax (5.50CXF per tonne of CO2 for households; 16.50 CXF per tonne of CO2 for business entities)
- Corporate Tax (17.5%–20%, progressively classed on profit)
- Customs Duty (0.8–2.5%, applicable only to certain imports)
- Fringe Benefits Tax (27.5%, subject to thresholds)
- Personal Income Tax (0%-27.5%, progressively classed on personal income)

Regional levies
- Value-added levies eg Value Added Tax, Goods & Services Tax, Sales Tax
- Excise levies eg Fuel Excise, Tobacco Excise, Alcohol Excise
- Land value and property levies eg Land Rates
- Transfer levies eg Stamp Duty, Transfer Tax
Is tax evasion common? It is estimated that the governments lost out on over 24.97 billion CXF in tax year 2015 due to tax avoidance and evasion. This represents 1.1% of total tax revenue, or 0.017% of the national GDP.

How does taxes affect people and the economy in overall? Tax revenue totalled to 2.27 trillion CXF in tax year 2015, representing roughly 17% of the national GDP. Tax incidence is designed to be spread equitably across different economic classes, although the effectiveness of the distribution has been the centre of much debate due to flat taxes, regressive taxes and archaic taxes. In general, since the centralisation of the taxation system in the 1980s, the taxation system has been efficient and effective in collecting and enforcing tax.

Is there any taxation in your nation?
Yes.

If yes, what are the most important existent taxes?
The only tax we have is personal income tax. Consumption taxes are considered immoral. The current tax rate has plummeted to 95.5%.

Is tax evasion common?
We don't think of it as "evasion". Paying taxes is voluntary and 95.5% is the suggested rate. We do prefer that you keep at least 4.5% of your income for yourself. In practice, we collect about 40%.

How does taxes affect people and the economy in overall?
Taxation is just a way of redistributing the wealth, so it has no effect on the economy. All of the wealth gets spent to keep the economy moving so it doesn't make much difference who spends it. Redistributing the wealth acknowledges that all people have the same essential needs and the same value to society.
