"Good evening Neu Engollon, and to our international viewers. You're tuned in to Courtside Central on NETV Sports 19. I'm your host Lizbet Rittenhaus. We're live at the Mercedinian Open. It's been an exciting one here these last few days, and for a good part of it, the Neu Engollian women dominated. Marla Gerard seems to have recovered her groove, having been off the previous couple tournaments in the NSTT circuit. She took down Krytenian Jessica Moreaux in a rapid fire two sets and looks primed to take on Qasdonian Feyrord Poniac in the quarterfinals.

Felice Mareaux, however, will not be moving on after her loss to the host's Jokek in a close, heated 3 set match. While not quite making it to the finals over the last few Opens, Felice has really been coming up in the ranks and many say that her style is reminiscent of Marla's in her earlier days.

Alma Semmes also survives on to the quarters, having beat Britonian Leo Garry in a three set methodical match wearing him down. While some are critical of her less than graceful style, she more than makes up for it with solid determination and an incredible endurance. Alma is the senior veteran of the tour, now that Paul Quiront was suspended and subsequently announced his withdrawal from NETC tennis.

Speaking of which, Quiront's bizarre run for Albertville mayor continues on with more vile social media posts and odd statements to the media in general, typical of what we expect from him. Rather than driving away supporters, it seems that Quiront rallies are increasing in strength as well as becoming rowdier affairs. His opponent, incumbent Mayor Silvia Bascombe, who has been the target of much of his vitriol, says that she is quote:"
...dumbfounded that so many of her constituents could be fooled by someone so crass, inexperienced and unprofessional.

"Me too, Silvia, me too. I've said that through my whole career in tennis and now sportscasting about Paul Quiront. Now, since this is a tennis show and not about politics, I'm happy to move on to discuss some of the other NSTT players that will present challenges to the veteran duo of Gerard and Semmes..."
TG me with questions if you got some, especially about GE&T or PMCs.

“I’m not even sure I really deserve to be in it at this point,” Simcha bat Dor said.

“What do you mean?” asked Hadar ben Ofer.

“I’ve been distracted. Thinking about other things. For the few days my head hasn’t really been in Zoloroni, it’s been… elsewhere.”

“We all get distracted from time to time. Hell, Walker has also seemed pretty distracted during the tournament. Jokek hasn’t been really heard from at all and he’s at home! Hell, I think we’ve heard more from Gerard than anyone else that’s still in it. That’s your competition, right there. Everything else is by the wayside. Go out there and get that tournament win you so richly deserve.”

“It won’t be quite as good as a grand slam win like the AOpen.”

“You have to start somewhere.”

(i.e. sorry I haven’t posted more, work has been distracting)

Mattijanans Sneak Into Semis

Dominika Lisicki and Rikard Kampl continued a remarkable run of form and a growing tradition of causing upsets as they toppled Cenians Will Nolovor and Kell Korden, before toppling Anthorian pair Sean Walters and Hammond Lauren Geroux.
Despite advancing as group winners, the pair were handed a tough draw in the form of the Cenians, but looked at home on a dewey grass court in Mercedini. Early service games went by with few issues for either side, however the first sign of danger for the Cenians came at 4 games apeice when a thrashed return into the tramlines by Kampl earned the Mattijanans a break point. That was saved when a backhand out wide forced a volley on the stretch from Lisicki to drift wide. The rest of the set was an otherwise serve-dominated affair with both sides happy to play out for the tie-break.
Unexpectedly, it was Lisicki and Kampl who turned up the heat in the tie-break with a loose return by Korden was drive-volleyed by Kampl through the retreating Nolovor and into the court to notch a mini-break.
Mattijana held out and sealed the set with another lovely cushioned volley, this time from Lisicki to win the tie-break 7-4.

The second set was largely the same as the first over the first 8 games, but the Mattijanan duo looked to be in trouble after a couple of loose shots and their relative predicament only worsened when a top edge was smashed away into the open space of the court.

Despite the setback, Lisicki and Kampl hit back and broke back, starting the game with a fizzing return that Nolovor could only skew into the crowd. The second point was equally terrifying, this time for Korden, who could only shovel an ankle-high volley into the middle of the net. A forehand long from Korden gave the Mattijanans a 0-40 lead and although a spinning serve out wide saved the first break point, another hard return onto the baseline wasn't dug out by Nolovor.

The second set then meandered once more towards a tie break, with the Mattijanans once again turning it on just at the right moment. A beautiful cross court return was snatched wide by Nolovor before a nerveless serve was poked long by Korden to seal the match.

The second match was more routine for the pair. The two Anthorians stayed in the first set until a devilish slice from Lisicki set up an easy volley for Kampl to break late on. The second set was easier, with the pair taking a comfortable 6-3 win.
The socialist republic of Mattijana:
As if Austria, Slovenia, North-Eastern Europe and Sweden were merged together into some weird stew of a country.
through resilience, we are strong!
