Is YN's name different in other languages?

Postby Vescus (Ancient) » Wed Nov 09, 2016 12:46 pm

Vescus' name is different in many languages, and here is a list of languages in which our name is translated

Chinese - 繁荣实现 (in English, the literal translation is "Prosperity Achieved")
Dutch - Wescun
French - Vesceaux
Japanese - ゴールドの帝国 (in English, the literal translation is "Empire of Gold" which is ironic, as Gold is our 2nd largest export)
Maori - Vecoa
Polish - Kurwa!
Russian - свобода (in English, the literal translation is "Freedom")
Swedish - Vëscüs (Not really a different translation, but this is just to show that others like their umlauts)
Welcome to Vescus, a capitalist nation famed for its incredibly tolerant and chilled out citizens, work ethic, efficiency that means public transport is always on time to the second, mining of asbestos, diversity, and openness towards refugees. The current year is 2037.

These below are indeed my political views
Pro: Anarchic-Capitalism, Using torture on prisoners, Gary Johnson, EU, Scottish Independence, Privatisation, Thatcher, Libertarianism, Cannabis legalisation, Immigration, LGBTQ+, Switzerland, Australia, Germany, The Netherlands, Singapore.
Anti: Left wing, prisoners getting the vote, Hillary, Free Healthcare, Corbyn, Communism, Authoritarianism, "Sin Tax", SJWs and third wave feminists, France, Russia.

No. We insist that the closest phonetic equivalent is used if a non Latin script is used to write our nation's name. For conceptual languages we will be satisfied with being called either "the republic" or "The star republic".

Appalachia's name is different in a few different languages:

In French (Appalaches) and Arabic (أبالاتش), the final syllable of our nation's name is left off, meaning the pronunciation is "Appalash."

In Russian (Аппалач), the pronunciation is Appalache, with a long e sound at the end. In German (Appalachen), the pronunciation is "Appalach," with a rough "ch" sound as the final pronounced syllable.

In other non-Latin languages, the name is usually spelled and pronounced phonetically.
Note: This account is no longer in regular use. I now post as Appalachia

Not really.
In the languages currently recognized as spoken languages on a national level:

Serbian: Улан-Ата (Ulan-Ata)
Japanese: ウランアタ or うらんあた (Uran'ata)
Mongolian: Улааната (Ulaanata)
Vietnamese: Ú Lan À Ta
Hungarian: Ulánata
Korean: 우란아다 (Uran'ada)

The Mongolian "Ulaanata" spelling is the original spelling, since the Mongols gave the nation its name. The Japanese transliteration separated the parts of the name in a phonetic way; the Serbian variant did the same. While the Vietnamese followed the Serbian sound of the name, the Korean version followed the Japanese one. The Hungarian spelling derives from the Mongolian sound.

Most languages just use "Hejmalando" but some foreigners spell it with a "y" instead of a "j" to avoid a common mistake. Our nation's name is pronounced as "hey-ma-LAN-doe" but, in languages like English, French, and Portuguese, "j" symbolizes a voiced palato-alveolar consonant instead of a voiced palatal approximant. In places where such languages are common, the name is sometimes spelled "Heymalando" instead.

International: Hejmalando
Some Locations: Heymalando
Cyrillic: Һеймаландо
Korean: 헤마란도
Japanese: ヘマランド
Chinese: 母国

There is normally a rough equivalent to the rejistanian name Rejistaniha. (Rejistania, Rejistanien, la Réjistanie), some Turkish languages see the -Stan as a country prefix though. Here are some Turkish examples: Rejistan güzel bir ülke (Rejistania is a beautiful country, Rejisçe kolay değil (Rejistanian is not easy), Annem rejistir (my mother is Rejistanian)
Rejis sjiki, linux sjiki, alari sjiki, korona sjiki!

German (official) name: (Bundesrepublik) GI-Land
English name: (The Federal Republic of) GI-Land
French name: République fédéral de GI (English: Federal Republic of GI)
Spanish name: República Federal de GI (English: see the French name)
Italian name: Republica federale gianlucaio (English: Gianlucaian Federal Republic [refers to the long form of GI: Gianluca])

Of course, there are many other names of our nation too in another languages, but those are basically the same like the ones stated above. Whether it's only GI-Land translated (with "Federal Republic" written before the name of the nation) or it's a "Federal Republic of GI" or even "gianlucaian" as an adjective somehow used to describe our nation in another language.
Only one thing is really important to pay attention to: GI is NEVER pronounced together. You've got a G and an I, but not only a GI, not important in which language you're speaking about us.

In terms of our three official languages, our nation's name is:

Japanese: ガンドア (Gandoa)
Russian: Гандур (Gandur)

In addition, our nation's name in our most commonly spoken non-official language would be:

'Brellach' is the Anglicised, phonetic spelling of the country's official name. It is an Old Brellachi word, or rather two words combined - 'Brel', meaning 'land' or 'space', and 'ach', derived from 'acha', which variably means 'unity', 'together', or 'at peace', the latter probably being the intended meaning. When spoken aloud in Brellachi, it sounds like 'Brell-ak', however in written Brellachi a single icon is used - the Glyph of Light, as seen on the Brellachi flag.

Emperyo is a bastardized variant of Impero, which means "Empire" in Italian.
Therefore, its variants in other languages would mean "Empire", or in some cases, "Empire State". Some languages added in some vowels to differentiate between the word for "Emperyo" and the word for "Empire". Here are some examples:

French: Empirei
Spanish: Estado Imperio
Italian: Emperio
Greek: αυτοκρατορία (Autokratopia)
German: Bundesreich (literally, empire state)
Portuguese: Estado Império
Latin: Imperium
Russian: империя (imperiya)
Chinese: 欧洲帝国 (the European Empire) [This is due to its disdain towards capitalist nations, refusing to acknowledge Emperyo as a state]
Japanese: イタリア帝国 (itaria tei koku) (Italian Empire) [this is as Japan is communist, and views Emperyo as a capitalist state ruled by Italians]
