Old Wahdabad
2200 Hours Local Time
Wadhabad, Zevretin

Cornithian Strykers of the 7th Cavalry crept slowly through the bombed-out streets of Old Wadhabad, engines laboring as they navigated across scattered debris and RPG craters. The burnt out buildings around them stood like eerily silent, skeletal hulks. Forced to drive single-file by the narrow road, the Strykers moved in groups of three, followed by members of the 101st Airborne (which had been airdropped earlier into the southern fringes of the city).

The entire procession was moving painstakingly slowly, various guns swiveling as they surveilled the neighborhood. Since nightfall, the urban terrain of Old Wahdabad had become strangely quiet, with the only sounds being that of the whining Stryker’s turbodiesels and the far-off clatter of machine-gun fire. Zevreti forces had holed up within the deeper confines of the city, electing to establish a defensive position at higher ground. Cornithian generals, on the other hand, had ordered the 7th Cav to move up deep into al-Kabaab territory for recon duty.

Even with their high-powered night-vision goggles, the soldiers stumbled through the dark as they maneuvered the crumbling rubble. “Where the hell are these bastards?” muttered one corporal irritably, as he shuffled through yet another pile of broken building.

Al-Kabaab forces had clashed in these streets for months, trying to push through the defenses of the Republican Guard. They had been armed to the teeth with improvised weaponry, blasting away with suicide bombers and insurgent fighters. The sudden nighttime quiet was unnatural, and the Cornithian soldiers swung their sights wildly, every fibre tense as they searched for the enemy.

The procession abruptly halted, with the Stryker’s brakes squealing in protest. “Thermals, up ahead, 100 meters,” reported the squad commander. “Check your fire; they might be civilians.”

The members of the 101st collectively crouched behind their AFVs, guns leveled at the buildings up ahead. A slight shuffle echoed through the street.

Suddenly, the night was ablaze.

KABOOM.

Half of the Cornithian commandos were thrown to the pavement as a RPG detonated infront of the head Stryker; stopped only by the vehicle’s onboard APS. A wave of heat and pressure flattened the nearby ruins, and the entire road was temporarily lit a dazzlingly bright white. The soldiers clutched at their heads and shielded their eyes; blinded by the light of the explosion, amplified trifold by their night-vision goggles.

“CONTACT!”

“No shit,” swore one of the recovering Cornithians, picking up his carbine as he scrambled off of the ground. He dove behind cover as a camouflaged Al-Kabaab machine gun began chattering at the end of the street, spraying the air with LMG rounds. Rebel insurgents were clambering from out of alleyways and over rooftops, leveling their guns down at the shocked members of the Airborne. As he watched, one of the still-dazed soldiers on the street was was riddled through with automatic rifle fire, his chest bursting with crimson as he screamed his life away.

The Strykers had begun to respond, with the 105mm of the lead M1128 blasting flame as it fired canister shells into the crumbling buildings ahead. Out of those same buildings came the hiss of two more RPGs, which hurtled toward the M1128.

The first RPG was deflected, again by APS, and exploded meters short of it’s target. The second, however, flew true to it’s mark - and there was a resounding GONG as the AFV detonated, sending it’s turret flying into the air.

The remaining two M1126s fired up their engines, reversing through half-smashed brick walls as they attempted to back up into a better position. RPGs kept flying at the vehicles, crashing against their reactive plating and cage armour; though the Strykers seemed relatively unharmed. They returned fire with their .50 Cals, sending tracer rounds flying across the street. The soldiers of the 101st Airborne, too, had begun to reorganize and open up against the attackers.

Over a thousand miles away, President Jonathan Saunders was watching all of this unfold from one of the soldier’s helmet feeds. He was surrounded by his military advisors, who stiffened as they saw the spectacular destruction of the first Stryker.

Saunders turned, ever so slowly, to the generals assembled in the room, who were staring back at him ashen-faced. His throat dry, he swallowed quickly before he spoke.

“And these are the people who have called for ceasefire?"

General Payton was the first to respond. “Yes, sir, but only in the Nasir AFB area” he spoke, somewhat uncertain. “The rest of their troops seem keen on continuing the fight.”

Saunders leaned against the desk, running his hands through his hair. His voice turned bleak.

“Tell me what happened back there. In Wadhabad,” he clarified. “How were we so outgunned?”

The General cleared his throat and shifted uncomfortably. “We weren’t outgunned, sir. We’re being outfought”. Saunders looked up at him, his expression inquisitive.

“We’re fighting a war of urban combat. The al-Kabaab have been in combat for months. They’re grizzled. They know the lay of the land, and were ready for us when we came.”

Saunders sighed. “So we’re waging asymmetrical warfare at it’s worst. A superior conquering army thwarted by guerilla warfare. And we can’t afford to fight otherwise, either, for risk of civilian injury”.

General Payton nodded, somber. “Yes, sir. It seems that way”.

The President cradled his head in his hands, silent. After a minute of thinking, he looked up, seeming resolute.

“It looks to me, gentlemen, that we have no choice. We’ll grant the Cesopians their ceasefire. Hopefully, the forces of diplomacy can do their work and end all of this madness.”

The assembled staff members nodded tersely. General Payton had a pained expression on his face. Saunders turned to look at him. “An objection, General?”

Payton straightened, returning the President’s gaze. “With the greatest of respect, sir, I do not feel this decision wise. The Rebels have been in this conflict for months. Again, with respect, It seems imprudent to believe they will give up after some political peace talks.”

For the first time in a while, Saunders cracked a dry smile. “Perhaps that may be so, General. Perhaps you’re right, and all of this will be for waste. But I do not see an ulterior option. If this is a way we can reduce the further killing of innocents in Zevreti, I’ll take it. Please, feel free to give me an alternative, general”.

The room was quiet. Saunders clasped his hands together. “Alright then. We’ll ceasefire in the Nasir AFB immediately. The rest of our operations in Zevretin will continue. And, just in case General Payton is indeed correct, I want our heavy armored divisions ready to be mobilized and en-route to Zevretin at my command. Dismissed.”

The assembled Cornithians all nodded, hurrying out of the President’s briefing room. Saunders turned to his desk, closing his eyes. He spoke to the empty room.

“What have we gotten into?”

Nasser AFB

General Ramer had sent the message five minutes ago and was weighing his options. He had called off a push to finish them off to keep on with the bombardment and hopefully demoralize them, although at this point he had the man power to kill every last Cesopian if he wanted to. But now that they called for a ceasefire, and as much as he wanted artillery to blow them to pieces as soon as they tried to collect their dead, it was too much of a risk to the alliances they had worked so hard to forge. For once, Christoslavia would be playing fair...if the Cesopians agreed to our terms.

Nasser AFB
Operation False Hope

General Ramer had passed on secret commands to company leaders while he was sending a message of peace to the Cesopians. While they were busy recuperating from the repeated bombings and raids by us and our allies, we had positioned mobilized infantry among the dunes surrounding the last Cesopian camps. Our mission was to completely eradicate them and remove them from the war before any ceasefire took effect. At 2 AM exactly, snipers took out enemy spotlights and guards, then prowlers moved in under the cover of darkness and began wreaking havoc behind enemy lines, and finally at 2:30 Infantry moved down with Night Vision goggles and silencers and began one final assault on the Cesopians. This was our chance to end it all.

The Opulent Citizenry’s Demesne of the Esteemed and Liberated Lands of Glamour
Stiletto
The Diva Cynosure
1537 Local Time | 1937 Conflict Zone Time

Image

The 45th Incumbent Diva of the Esteemed and Liberated Lands of Glamour, Alisha Nu'le Saratoga, presided over the gathering, small in its capacity but great in its distinction, whilst reclining atop the finest vicuna fur-lined chaise longue to be found within five paces of her Chamber's door, which had been promptly closed following the gathering's entry to the room by an aide-de-camp, pending an outburst from the Diva. Her predecessor, Cassadra Davenport, had been notoriously violent behind closed doors - Cassadra's administration had been a frequent target of both her screaming vitriol and dozens of bottles of the Cynosure's exquisite Glamazonian champagne collection, utilised as missiles. Alisha was no less tumultuous in her expression of dissatisfaction in private, but, having been elected to the position by the head of state (the Glamazonian population) in more globally trying times than Cassadra, she was chosen by virtue of her emotionally open campaign, reflecting the Citizenry's will, and was, at this point in her tenure, less energised to lash out physically and in possession of a more hardened resolve than perhaps any Diva since the second World War. In public, she was - were it to be possible - even yet more graceful than her predecessor. It was from her that the Glamazonian people drew their strength, but it was from the private meetings within her Chamber - like her predecessor - that she drew her own, often at the audience's expense. The great door, larger in scale than the developed world's average tenement building, took a while to be closed fully, at which point the Diva was already fully reclined, her eyes closed in exasperation, opening only to glare at the door as though she wished it were nimble enough that she could have slammed it herself; her gaze darted towards the aide who had closed it, and then across the faces of the people gathering with trepidation around the chaise longue as though it might have been a landmine that one of them had stepped upon, with the irate Diva its trigger.

After a tense half-minute or so, during which the Diva fell limp on the chaise longue and the aides shared looks of concern and confusion about which would be the less catastrophic outcome - that she were to have died there and then, thereby granting them silence after one of the greatest and most drawn-out debate sessions the Citizenry's Court had ever seen, or that she might now open her mouth and address them, thereby breaking the silence with a tirade - she roused herself.

The debate concerning Jaf in the Citizenry's Interactive Court of Dissent and Debate had escalated without respite for two consecutive nights and the day sandwiched therein, with the party leaders now present in the Diva's Chamber along with Xerox security specialists having faced a rotational crowd of citizen attendees, numbering in their thousands, and countless inputs from global and Glamorous social media commentators, along with the silent Diva herself, for the entire, dire duration of the session. The session had ended only once word of a rumoured ceasefire had entered the Court through social media channels, and the Diva had been drained of almost her final modicum of empathy. It was perhaps the first time the Diva, or indeed any incumbent Diva of Glamour, had remained silent for such a momentous length of time, and the closing of the door had those now encased in the Chamber fleetingly entertaining the idea that the Diva had passed away on the chaise longue so that the treasured silence might continue, despite the constitutional crisis such a happening would pose to the state of Glamour at such a sensitive time. However, having awoken, the Diva opened her mouth to speak:

"Bring me my platter of scented oils and cannabis. There will be no alcohol tonight. I must remain sober."

This statement was perhaps the most shocking that she could have formulated for the aides. They looked at each other, their stern faces failing to betray a hint of alarm, and one of them confirmed that her request was effectively fulfilled. The coalition party leaders nodded in sombre agreement, and the Xerox security officials who were also present drew puzzled expressions towards one another, as though, surely, there must have been more pressing content at hand for the Diva's first spoken sentence in almost 48 hours to have addressed.

She rose abruptly and pointed at the security officials with a manicured fingernail, jet black in lieu of her official mourning dress, which the war in Jaf had warranted, and which the people of Glamour emulated nationwide. The country attended a funeral for those living afar within its own highly secure borders.

"Brief me alone. Everyone else leave us be. However, I want it to be made clear in front of you all, that if there is no diplomatic solution to this unrepentant shambles, then I and These Lands wash our hands of it. And that includes an embargo on any asylum program admission for any citizens of any involved nations. They can come here, to Isla, for processing, but every single application will be rejected. If the island becomes uncontainable, and our mainland is under threat of invasion, we activate the first stages of the Anvil civil defence protocol and evacuate the island. With fire if we must - it is our own territory. We are not in the business of involving ourselves openly in external military affairs unless we are working towards resolution. If there is no resolution, we detach ourselves, and if we can't do so diplomatically, we blow our bridges and go underground. For now, aid money will continue, but we will not be sending anybody - anybody - to Jaf. The Glamazonians are maddened. I have seen nothing like it before. But military action is not an option. I say this before the briefing as a measure towards making the coalition aware of my transparent and steadfast commitment towards global peace, and because it is a precondition upon which hinges my very fragile willingness to hear the briefing even begin, in my role as elected representative of the Citizenry. Should their characters fail under this pressure, and it comes that they want blood, I will not allow you," she pointed again at her military advisors, "to deliver them it as a poisoned chalice. The Cultural Liaisons Association of Glamour ought be prepared for the media coverage of that session. I say to whomever is in charge of such a thing - throw more money at them, instantly."

Alisha Nu'le Saratoga took a vial of jasmine from an approaching amethyst disc, carried by an aide, and calmly delivered drops of it onto each wrist. Blending the drops on each wrist together, closing her eyes once again and breathing deeply of the scent, she then opened her eyes wild, snatched the crystal tray from the terrified aide, and fired it across the Chamber like a boomerang, so that it shattered against an 17th century baroque style mirror. The apparition of her enraged face burned the retinas of the few among the observers who had been fast enough to trace the tray's path towards the mirror, now nothing more than a four foot tall black panel shuddering on its hook, raining glass onto the polished marble floor.

"Have that replaced by morning. Not in the morning, but by the morning. And not with any mirror, but with one precisely like it. Take care not to wake me as you do so... although, following my experience during that session, it would be a miracle if such a feat were even possible."

The party leaders were overcome with horror, not accustomed to such uncivilised conduct, although successive Divas' propensities towards such behaviours was the stuff of legend in the House.

"Yes, my Div-" began an aide.

The Diva interjected, "I thought I ordered everyone without High Secrecy security clearance out of my blasted Chamber!"

The room was emptied, swiftly, bar the Diva in her black clothing, and a small number of shadowy Xerox operatives, who tended always to wear black anyway. The door to the Chamber was closed once again, in order that the Diva may be briefed concerning national security and global politico-militaristic affairs.

Naseer AFB
"Kill them all!" Shouted the colonel. Abdulistani forces had not been in combat as of yet with HQ busy with other matters, leaving the expeditionary force idle. It was then the legionnaires had attacked Nasser!

Abduli tanks and soldiers lined up on their prepared defensive positions, commencing fire on the advancing legionnaires. The legionnaires had proposed a ceasefire, but the Abdulis did not want as such.

Christoslavian forces were launching a last ditch attempt against the Cesopians, and the Abdulis would help!

The Armatas fired over and over on the Cesopian positions, and Abduli soldiers pushed forwards in an attempt to push the legionnaires out from the perimeter of Nasser AFB. This was the defensive battle the Abdulis were preparing for! The situation in Wahabad and the rest of Zevriti was not going as well, but HQ had finally got their act together and was going to push the terrorists out of Nasser and out of Zevriti!

Aizdihar Front,1st Battalion

A platoon Legionnaires from the remnants of the 1st Battalion have moved out via rented vehicles and what other transportation that could be found, heading north they seized the ruins of Nitaq and coming in contact with the communications hub at the Saqqaf International Airport, they seized the ruins of this place as well.

Troops in Aizdihar work to gather as much weapons, field guns and RPGs they possibly could.Using this they built up a fort on the western outskirts of Aizdihar to defend the city with what forces that they had. Setting up many checkpoints on the outside, they began constructing chain fences where possible. Legionnaires with the help of translators started conscripting militia and soldiers from the local populace, arming them with whatever weapons they had left over. With this they formed the newly made force "Islamic Zevriti Army"

Gathering up necessary statesmen in the city hall for the declaration of the Young Martyr ran "Islamic State of Zevriti", establishing a temporary occupation of guarding these statesmen until the necessary time.

CSS Antioch-3

Colonel Walter Milek of the "Young Martyr" Regiment of the IV Legion made a announcement to the world today, aboard the deck of the Antioch-3.

This conflict has bought pain and devastation and the death of many men and women in this war. We would like to declare a formal ceasefire and announce the formation of the Islamic State of Zevriti with its capital at Aizdihar. We hope the other nations will follow suite and stop the violence to pursue peace.

While this announcement was made CSS Antioch-5,6 and 7 began to make a trek toward the nearest body of water carrying the Legionnaires of the I Legion to be sent in to act as advisors to the newly formed Islamic State of Zevriti.

Wadhabad and Nasir AFB Fronts,3rd and 2nd Battalions
The 12 Mil Mi-30s are dispatched from CSS Antioch-3, flying over Wadhabad and Nasir AFB with peaceful intentions, they begin to airlift the remaining Legionnaires who have now halted all fighting and are now withdrawing to the current territory of the Islamic State of Zevriti.

Nasser AFB
Operation False Hope

Christoslavian troops were massacring the Cesopian Legionnaires, orders were to kill everyone, no survivors. IFV's launched high explosive shells into bunkers and towers while Infantry moved silently through the trenches clad in black killing anyone they came across. The enemy force was in disarray. Meanwhile the hum of Mil Mi-30's was heard in the distance, as soon as they were in sight they were the targets of several stinger missiles and F-94 Anti Aircraft Vehicles armed with rapid fire chainguns and Anti Air heatseeking missiles. Several of the Mi-30s were brought down in smoldering wrecks while the battle raged on below

Nitaq

"DEFENSIVE POSITIONS!", the commander was screaming through the comm system, a full force of Legionnaires and Young Martyrs had approached the city but our booby traps had destroyed any roads and bridges that led into the city itself, all men were ordered into defensive positions with snipers and grenadiers ready to pick off infantry and tanks alike as we waited for their inevitable breakthrough

Nitaq Front,1st Battalion

The sent platoon had encountered small arms fire and began to draw back to the Saqqaf International Airport communications hub, leaving Nitaq as a isolated area as it was just a bunch of smouldering ruins at this anyway. The troops who survived the initial assault moved out from the area due to heavy small arms fire.

Nasser AFB,2nd Battalion

Lieutenant Colonel Levin Nuhr spread the word among his men of the ceasefire taking place and were now ordered not to fire upon their enemies unless they fired first. As it was a national message on a global broadcast, he hoped that the other nations would listen and not massacre men under a ceasefire. Now was the time to collect the injured and wounded, not continue the killing of our enemies.

But it didn't matter, the Christoslavians had not listened to the ceasefire, reports came in they were being killed by invisible enemies which were only countered by tossing dirt and sand onto their invisibility suits which despite being able to turn invisible were still physical objects and not out of the dimension itself. As heavy fired continued on the Mil Mi-30s, at least 3 had landed evacuating the remaining troops over the borders to the Islamic State of Zevriti.

Nasser AFB

Corpses of Legionnaires lied about the dunes. It was still ominous seeing the brown and yellow permeated by red, and to top it off the blood had a sickly fluorescent glow in the moonlight. "Alright, burn the bodies, kill any survivors and or prisoners, and destroy any cameras you find". He could still hear the Mi-30's that got away in the distance, shame we couldn't take them all down, but the ones we did would suffice, helicopter wrecks scattered the camp along with the bodies of men with fear in their eyes as they died. Christoslavians were no stranger to massacre, victory or death as they say back home. "Tell the General Operation False Hope is a success", as SSgt. Becker climbed into his MRAP he could see his men line up a squad of Legionnaires by a bunker and execute them without a second thought. "Mission accomplished", the MRAP drove into the night as Christoslavians cleaned up, and smoke rose up into the midnight.

URGENT MESSAGE TO PRESIDENT SAQQAFI
MAXIMUM ENCRYPTION

Good morning Mr. President, this is General Ramer and I believe it's time we met personally. Now that most main sieges have ended I suggest we get together with the Coalition and decide our next course of action, as for me personally I believe the new Cessopian made Islamic state of Zevretin as well as Junud al-Kabaab held territories in Northern Jaf are unacceptable and must be destroyed, but ultimately it is your decision which is why I ask we discuss it, currently I am on my way to Wahdabad and am looking forward to meeting you.

Respond in earnest

Aizdihar
Operation Exodus

Command was brief but clear, we were back at full strength and letting the terrorists and their allies keep even a sliver of Jaf was unacceptable. Immediately after the defense of Nasser AFB a force of 1300 men was organized for a Blitzkrieg, we marched across the desert in 2 days eliminating various Cesopian and Young Marty outposts with brutal efficiency and destruction until we reached the outskirts of Aizdihar, the last enclave for the Cesopian contingent in the country as well as for the Young Martyrs, it was time to eliminate foreign players in the country so we could turn our focus to al-Kabab. Ceasefire negotiations had stalled so this was the perfect opportunity for a last ditch assault. At the order of General Ramer our air support including J-20 Stealth Bombers and R-3 Multi Purpose Fighters which bombed the city of Aizdihar for 4 hours straight without warning, immediately afterwards, 1300 men stormed the outer suburbs of the city with armor and air support and an assault was begun to put the city back into the hands of Zevretin. Victory or Death!

WAHDABAD, ZEVRETIN
11: 47 AM

The regime had done the impossible- amid gains, losses, and stalemates, they had driven Junud al-Kabaab from the capital and back across the plains of Northern Zevretin. Weeks of fighting had bled both sides like hung pigs for mere blocks and buildings, which now were reduced to little other than gutted ruins. Old Wahdabad in its entirety was rank with the smell of the dead and dying, of gunpowder stale and fresh, and thick black smoke that snaked its way through the latter. The exhausted 1st and 2nd Infantry were withdrawn immediately afterward, for fear that they would go AWOL if they were subjected to any more combat. Meanwhile, the 4th Mechanized, alongside the 15th Commandos, undertook the daunting task of securing the district and strangling the life out of any remaining resistance. Behind their advance, members of the Republican Popular Forces (a newly mobilized paramilitary, made up of volunteers adhering to the Ba’ath Socialist ideology) took up position in areas formerly held by the army. RPF units in other parts of the city, initially tasked with being the last line of defense, were instructed to regroup and prepare for relief duties to units within Jaf, as well as participating in the more unsavory aspects of liberation alongside the Republican Guard (such as the rounding up of jihadist collaborators and other regime opposition). At the Guard compound, President Saqqaf was ecstatic, hugging and kissing Christoslavian and Corinithian advisors, who had been absolutely crucial in the war effort- the defense of Wahdabad especially. Later that afternoon, Saqqaf’s motorcade could be seen exiting the confines of the compound, in the direction of the Presidential Palace. Some hours later, the delegates’ respective convoys exited as well. While this was indeed a victory for both strategy and morale, the newly formed “Islamic State of Zevretin” in Jaf proved the war was far from over.

NASSER AFB, JAF GOVERNORATE
12:12 PM

Amid word of al-Kabaab’s retreat from the capital, regime troops fought with a re-invigorated spirit alongside their allies, driving through jihadist lines in spite of stiff opposition from Cesopiumian Legionnaires. Eventually, it was clear the Legionnaires were poised to withdraw, their distinctive Mil Mi-30’s gathering up the wounded and healthy alike and flying off in the direction of the three cities of Jaf. General Bashar al-Saqqaf gradually ordered his forces to stand down, allowing the enemy to retreat without further aggression. The way he saw it, enough fighting had occurred at Nasser for a lifetime…further blood was simply absurd for the time being, as it would do little. If there was anything Saqqaf knew about these Legionnaires, it was that they were not afraid of a fight, even it meant to the last man; and to build on this, each man would take a whole lot more Zevritis down with him than the opposite.

Although there was merit in cruelty, Bashar was repulsed at the sight of the Christoslavians' execution of captive Cesopiumians. Had they been an inferior combatant, he would care little- however, they had absolutely proven themselves worth of quarter. He promptly isssued a universal order for all forces at Nasser to take prisoners, though this did not necessarily include the Christoslavians, They had their orders form Ramer, and he would respect this, even if he disagreed. Within several days' time, many of the regime ground units at Nasser were relieved by their RPF replacements and sent to the rear for R & R, just in time for winter. Though Jaf did not experience snow like the far north of Zevretin, the days were frigid and the nights even worse. In addition, agriculture would be at a standstill, meaning most of the army's food would now have to come from afar. Regime troops chose to ignore these dilemmas however, allowing the cold embrace of winter to compliment their lively mood.

***ENCRYPTION: NONE

THE ARAB SOCIAL REPUBLIC OF ZEVRETIN
TO: PUBLIC

People of Zevretin and the world:

President Saqqaf and his advisors have formally agreed upon the proposed ceasefire by the terrorists and their foreign allies, the Cesopiumians. All units will remain idle unless provoked, which will also result in an official elimination of said ceasefire.

Saqqaf and the Republic do not, however, officially recognize the so-called "Islamic State of Zevretin" as a sovereign nation, but rather a gang of terrorists propped up by neo-colonialist aggressors. Saqqaf extends his hands to these brigands regardless, and offers quarter in exchange for their withdrawal from Aizdihar and Manar.

Aizdihar
Operation Exodus

At the announcement of President Saqqafs ceasefire agreement and outward hand to the Islamic State of Zevretin, all Christo Slavia troops which were at this point 3 miles within the city were ordered to hold positions until the Cesopians responded to Saqqafs request. We would only retaliate if attacked.

Presidential Palace
Ramer's motorcade of MRAPS pulled up in front of the Presidential Palace, Ramer then stepped out, dressed in dirty fatigues and a tired look. In his face was that of an old war dog who just wanted to rest. Regardless he walked up to the door and asked to see President Saqqafs. There was much to discuss.

WAHDABAD, ZEVRETIN

President Saqqaf was quick to accept the Christoslavians into his home, though he was already occupied with live reports on the chaos in Northern Zevretin. Junud al-Kabaab, in a smug move, took it upon themselves to lay waste to the area in their retreat, laying IED's and slaughtering civilians in droves. In addition, it was inferred by RPF units trailing after them that they had been targeting Shia mosques as well; wiring them with explosives and corralling many of its frequents inside prior to detonation. The RPF had not yet managed to catch them, and eventually settled at the Ummayan border and awaited further orders. Though they had driven al-Kabaab's experienced militants from the region, the RPF could not eliminate their newly-established presence in the region. To Saqqaf's dismay, his advisers informed him that the North would likely still be a hotbed for jihadist activity for the foreseeable future (though not quite on the same scale as the Jaf Conflict).

The delegates, alongside General Ramer, were guided through a winding maze of opulent corridors, until they at last reached a massive ball-room-turned-commander-center. Saqqaf turned toward them, smiling widely and outstretching his hands. Following the pleasantries, the President cleared his throat.

"Good news from the North. Or, rather, the best I had hoped for. Junud al-Kabaab is on the retreat, and and the Popular Forces are re-establishing a foothold there. Naturally, you know we've declared a ceasefire as well. Considering how much progress we've made in such time, I believe it is high time we celebrate. Winter is coming, after all."

Wahdabad, Zevretin
General Ramer

"Indeed Mr. President, we have every reason to celebrate. May I also say what a pleasure it is to finally meet you. Your charisma may I say is very charming, and a welcome change from some less pleasurable heads of state I've experienced if I do say so myself. You've done a fantastic job at rallying your troops to defend your nation. And to credit them, they've fought far harder than other armies when it comes to insurrection. Your men are some of the bravest and most honourable I've ever seen and I mean that personally.
As for the war effort, my men are in Aizdihar and as a formality would like your blessing before continuing the assault, or at least we will wait until the Cesopiumians respond. As for the conduct of my men at Nasser..my apologies, we did what we believed to be necessary. However, as a sign of respect we will begin to take prisoners, I'm sorry your men had to see what we do. Now that that's said and done President Saqqafi, I say we toast, to you, to the Zevretin Army, to Zevretin, and to victory."

WAHDABAD, ZEVRETIN

President Saqqaf smiled warmly, and nodded. He quickly waved over an interrupter as Ramer continued.

He took a sip of his current drink, a cup of coffee made in the Zevriti fashion, before speaking.

"Thank you. I have attempted to do my part to the best of my abilities alongside my advisers, and leave the rest up to the men. As for Aizdihar, I strongly suggest your men dig in and simply blockade the city, as it will simply starve the jihadists into submission, at no cost of valuable troops. In regards to the events at Nasser, I and the rest of my command were not in the slightest offended, as your men were following orders exclusively from you. We trust your judgement, that I assure you. I'm not sure we would have gotten this far if we hadn't." He shifted in his stance, coughing rather violently into his fist.

"My apologies, my friends. Allergies." Still coughing, albeit much less intense, he raised his cup. "To victory!"

Wahdabad, Zevretin

"My apologies my friends. Allergies. To victory!"

General Ramer raised his cup of coffee and touched it to Saqqafis, a satisfying clink was one of those little things that still brought a grizzled veteran like Ramer some joy.
"Thank you Mr. President, I will be sure to pass these orders down to the Aizdihar garrison, and although I appreciate your statement tell Gen. Bashar al-Saqqafi that I send my deepest apologies."

Ramer took a sip of the coffee, strong, but not too terribly bitter, and that perfect temperature between scalding and warm, to be honest it was the most pleasant thing he had experienced since he was in country, then again war was no place for pleasantries, being a veteran of the Civil War, as well as most Christoslavian campaigns he knew that all too well. One does not achieve General through pleasantries. He noticed the president was still coughing, and he wasn't buying the allergy excuse.

"Mr. President, as nice as this is, may I suggest you retire for the night and get some rest, I believe the stress may kill you before the war does." he said jokingly with a chuckle. "In all seriousness however, this war is far from over and we need you to remain strong and in good health if it is to continue."

Aizdihar
Operation Exodus

Captain Raysh Stood atop an F-92 to deliver a message to the men.
"Alright ladies and gentlemen, I know we are tired, yet itching for a fight, well as much as all you sorry bastards want to bash in the skulls of those Legionnaires", he said with a smile, eliciting some chuckles from the troops,"Command has ordered us all to dig in for the winter. We will starve these bastards into submission. I want mines laid on every road leading in or out of the city, and checkpoints set up along all possible entrances and exits. No supplies will get in here, no one will get out am I understood?"
"Sir yes sir!"

"You have your orders, now get to it!".

ZEVRETIN

Following the brief celebration, Saqqaf took Ramer's advice and retired to his quarters for the remainder of the night. Meanwhile, on the Aizdihar front, Christoslavian troops dug in at the outskirts of jihadist territory, going through with the plan to starve out the remaining forces there. Nasser AFB, along with other regime holdings that had not been obliterated, were at last relieved by RPF troops from the capitol, who as fanatics thirsted for fighting. Those that did not consolidate army positions continued along Highway 9 with the Republican Guard, making their way into smaller villages to round up known jihadist collaborators and other undesirables (the aftermath of the conflict had made it convenient for the Saqqaf regime to dispose of its opponents without the worry of watchful international players). Hundreds, possibly thousands, disappeared from their homes and into the desert, never to be heard from again. No one cared to ask of their whereabouts. In Northern Zevretin, the RPF had made short work of any open resistance still in the area, taking back many checkpoints and armories that had been looted by advancing al-Kabaab fighters just weeks ago. To their dismay, the bodies of regime troops were uncovered everywhere they went, the count varying by each town but all disposed in a crude and disrespectful manner. In addition, mass graves containing people adhering to Shia Islam were discovered, after questioning and occasionally coercing locals.

Across Zevretin, it was clear that the regime had rebounded from its losses, and was there to stay. Though the fighting was certainly far from over, the jihadists' crushing defeat in such a major offensive meant that they would likely never have such deployment capabilities again, and were left to die in a small and war-torn corner of the country for winter. Saqqaf would see to it that they would never see spring again.
