Some of the provisions which are worthy of note include the Redlist. Member-States are enjoined to prevent the trade of species listed as endangered, critically endangered and extinct in the wild, subject to the requirements of appropriate permits to be secured from their respective regulatory agencies. These agencies also have to be identified for the ECO to monitor their compliance with the Protocol, and allow the organization to identify the relevant bodies that it can work with. Also, the purpose for the trade of these species must not be for profit, but must be for conservation or protection reasons (as when the species need to be transferred due to an impending threat to its home or habitat.)
The provisions on Protected Sites, meanwhile, require Member-States to prohibit any destructive extractive activity to occur within identified protected sites. Member-States are expected to enact legislation providing for strict regulation on access to these sites, and the use of natural resources contained therein.
