Hello there, and welcome to the Island Sport thread! This thread is the domestic sports newswire of the various leagues belonging to the user behind Anglatia. Posting privileges only exist for Anglatia(and puppet nations of Anglatia), mods, and those who are given permission by Anglatia to post. This thread is also under construction, so I apologize in advance for the disorganization!

Overview of the involved nations:

The Redvale: The Redvale is an ancient country that had recently seen a modern sporting rise after opening its doors to the world and sending its sports teams out to play in the name of its gods. This is a supernatural country that's had plenty of divine intervention through its history, but it's also technologically modern. The government is pretty authoritarian and Orwellian in ruling its own people, but the laws are loosened greatly for foreigners to attract them to move to the country and bring their business, and more recently, their sporting talent. The capital is Avgaria, but the largest city is the huge metropolis of Maris. The island's favorite sports are gridiron football and association football, but gridiron is definitely the national one. There's also a very popular hockey league and thriving basketball ones, and college sports is extremely popular among this sport loving populace.

Empire of Greater Anglatia: Anglatia is an absolute monarchist island in the far eastern part of Rushmore, and that island has gained an empire of more than a billion people through its many religious and political wars and through its collectivist grit that's led to each colony supporting the rest and increasing the overall strength of the Empire. The main island is Anglo-Saxon, the second most important island is called Valeria and is home to a Valerian race that is similar to the Scandinavian races, and the third 'crown state' is Patierre, a French island with a long history of rebellion, that was only recently recaptured after forty years of independence. Anglatia is very ethnically diverse but has a culture of uniformity, with Christianity being the main religion(however, atheism is very popular in Valeria) and nationalism being highly encouraged by the state. As for sports, Anglatia is a football crazy nation that produces many players that would be considered good even by international standards. You could even say that football is the only thing that unites all of the colonies.

Nordskania: Nordskania is an island in the Anglatian sphere of influence that was formerly under an oppressive communist government. With help from Anglatia, the country split apart and ended that government. Now, the north of the country is anarcho-capitalist and the south is split between the Republic of Vestania, a state for the Romanian speaking minority, and the Nordskania Democratic People's Republic and the State of Nordskania, two other countries that Anglatia helped to set up. The NDPR is an oligarchy, while the SoN is officially fascist and is unofficially a similar oligarchy. This country has been lacking sports wise ever since the revolution and resulting defense of the country from invasion halted most of the leagues, but they still have a decent team that's been trying to make the World Cup.

Ceyne Isles: The Ceyne Isles are a pair of islands in northern Esportiva that formerly belonged to Nephara, but were bought by the Empire of Anglatia when the Emperor wanted to bring an Imperial economic presence into Esportiva. The island has a bad economy that the Imperial investors are working on turning around, and they're trying to use the good location to turn the islands into a top vacation destination and into a home for the rich and the famous. This resurgence has also seen the creation of some new sports leagues, which may see time as developmental leagues for Imperial athletes and maybe even for Nepharim and Brenecian players, because of the history of the islands. While the islands have a democratic regional government, they do have a monarch, Princess Halle of Underfell. They have also created a national team to compete in the regional competitions, even though there's a good chance that they'll be far outclassed by the much larger nations. Their capital is Falston, but it's no big city. The entire islands only have 120k citizens.

Nuevo Constancia: This country isn't an island, but is quite familiar with Anglatia because of the nations' proximity in Rushmore. Despite marketing itself internationally as a utopia and having some decent exports that cause others to tolerate it, it's very much an authoritarian socialist dictatorship ruled by a socialist party that has been busted internationally for rigging the elections every time and for suppressing enemies by force. However, the country doesn't have a ton of money and is pretty corrupt, leading to the rise of cartels, especially in the outer parts of the country. The eighty five million Constancians are now plagued with crime rates that have soared in recent decades, as well as political instability coming from the cartels occasionally acting as right wing militias. Overall, the country is a powder keg waiting to blow, and that's not bringing the cold war with Anglatia into the picture.

Note: This uses the Redvali dating system, which uses years since the pantheon returned to start the second age of the gods.

G-League History:

The Gridiron League is the richest and most watched sporting competition in the country. Every Sunday, from late afternoon to late at night, millions of Redvalis sit down to watch their teams battle in what is always a closely contested league for positioning in a playoff that lets less than half the league in after the regular season. It's a rough league to play in and a hard one to win in, but practically everyone loves it and its one of the things that brings together almost every citizen of the country. The league has been going since 478, and has been very stable over that time period.

National Championship League

A small league established to determine a national champion from the greatest teams in Redvale. Plays in between R League seasons and is smaller, shorter, but much more exclusive. Instead of ten teams, there's half that amount, and the bottom team is dropped and replaced with another team each time.

NCL Seasons:
508: Janford City

R League History

The R League was founded to bring football to Redvale despite it not being one of the traditional sports of the country, like gridiron football or hockey. The initial players were mostly immigrants who came from footballing countries, but the game blossomed over the years of the R League and now has a great level of attendance and a good level of popularity, and is the third most popular sport in the nation. The league is also accompanied by a national cup, and there's regional competitions outside of the main league that are sometimes older than the league but less prestigious. Many teams in this league have political leanings, or more accurately, religious connections with certain parts of the pantheon. This leads to some hoolaganism, but in the sense of religious combat instead of regular violence. The big three clubs are FC Maris, Sporting Avgaria, and Janford City, who have consistently had the biggest payrolls, although Sporting Avgaria has received support in the past from the Church which has made some question their achievements. Like the G League, this league was founded to merge many provincial leagues into one competition.

Sun Trophy
The Sun Trophy is the cup competition that pits R League teams against lower league and semi professional teams against each other in a tournament that lasts many rounds and always has exciting upsets. It's been around since the R League was formed, and generally has unpredictable results despite a few clubs being more successful than others in it. The competition also has a female counterpart, the Jade Cup.

RW League History
The RW League is the women's competition in Redvale, as there are strict religious laws forbidding mixed gender leagues. While there's multiple powerful goddesses in the pantheon, the Redvali religion believes in traditional gender roles, and so there's a stigma against women playing with men. The league has bad attendance but the fans that do care about it enough to attend are generally very hardcore fans who consider themselves football enthusiasts and are knowledgeable about most of the league. The ultras groups of the main league usually support their women's teams, with the notable exception of FC Castle who think the league is a waste of money. Provincial competitions are a bigger deal in this league, too.

College Football: College of Janford is still on top

Last college football season saw a school that has never won the conference rise to the top behind a promising young offensive coordinator turned head coach, Dyrk Camara. 37 years old, Camara used an air raid system last season that kept the Owls in many games that they weren't expected to win, including an upset win at Mount Maris that ended the title hopes of the traditional powerhouse. They fell short in the semifinals of the National Championship against eventual champions Elysia, but outperformed expectations by a lot and brought in a strong recruiting class because of it. College football has just opened again for the 507-508 season in Redvale, and Janford has defended their number one position so far.

WEEK ONE: Nonconference play began with the Owls hosting Red Valley State, the only team outside of the Super Twelve so far to win the national title. The Owls went behind 14-0 early in the game thanks to a badly timed interception and a fumble, but sophomore quarterback Edzard Marks proved why he's already the team captain when he connected with his deep receivers for two long touchdowns in five minutes to tie the game before the half. Red Valley scored a field goal in the third quarter, and there were no more points until the fourth, but the Owls defense held strong and had five sacks in the second half of the game. They only gave up one first down in the fourth quarter, and Edzard Marks had a chance to win the game at the goalline with a scramble with three minutes left. He was stopped, but on third down, the ball was handed off to Joakim Armana, the Second Team All-Redvali halfback who had 2,000 rushing yards last season. Armana ran off tackle for the game winning touchdown, and the Owls held on before forcing a game winning interception at the fifty yardline to seal the deal.

Also in week one, Mount Maris opened their nonconference schedule by playing their regional rival, North Shore University. NSU, who is believed to be a candidate to join the Super Twelve, had them on the ropes for most of the game. Mount Maris doesn't have one dominant quarterback, but spent most of the game relying on the one who started it as a backup. Redshirt junior Drago Morena doesn't have a good deep arm but finished with 350 passing yards and three touchdowns because of his short accuracy and his improvisation. With the game tied at 21-21 with six minutes left, Morena rolled out of the pocket and connected with his tight end on a mid range pass that led to the game winning touchdown. Maris nearly conceded when NSU drove all the way down the field, but their freshman linebacker Ky Augustus blitzed the gap and forced a fumble from the opposing quarterback to seal the 28-21 win. Head coach Rori Callahan announced after the game that Morena would be the starter for the next week, but that the quarterback competition would still be wide open through the next four weeks.

The one other game of note was Avgaria Tech's 51-0 demolition of Mount Maris University At Janford. Running back Tyus Carter is on the player of the year shortlist after going off for four hundred yards and four touchdowns, including two long range touchdowns from outside the red zone.

WEEK TWO: Mount Maris had a notable win in their second nonconference game when they went to a good Ravenfeld University team and completely took it to them, up 28-0 at the half. Despite two sacks from Ky Augustus, Ravenfeld scored three straight touchdowns to make the score 28-21, but in the third quarter, Drago Morena broke the game open by throwing a twenty yard completion over the middle to Aleix Fuller, who made a one handed catch and then ran three yards for a score. With the score 35-21 in the fourth quarter, Morena put the game out of reach by taking the ball in veer formation and pitching it to halfback Lewis Ite who ran off tackle for a five yard touchdown. The game ended at 42-21, and Morena has likely wrapped up the starting QB job. Mount Maris will start their conference play against a dangerous University of Avgaria team in a rivalry game.

Elsewhere, Avgaria Tech nearly got upset at Red Valley State in overtime, but Red Valley missed a game winning field goal. Tyus Carter, who had two hundred yards at that point, had a big run the other way when Tech got the ball back, before being stopped three straight times to force fourth down. Tech opted to go for it instead of kicking a field goal, and Carter got one yard in the I formation to earn the first down. Tech's backup halfback scored the game winning touchdown four plays later, and the Wildcats escaped Red Valley with a 21-14 overtime win. Tech's conference opener will be against the Glenham College Dragons, in Glenham.

The Owls also continued their good form, picking up a 65-3 win over Castle Community College, where Edzard Marks threw for four hundred yards and four touchdowns through just three quarters. Marks is now the top ranked quarterback in the conference in both passing yards and touchdowns, and is the favorite for the Super Twelve Player of the Year.

College Football: Avgaria Again!

Mount Maris won the Super Twelve with an undefeated season behind strong play from their quarterback and wide receivers, but they won't finish as dual champions once again. You can argue that the conference is more prestigious than the national tournament, but Maris still managed to lose in the championship game to their biggest rival: the University of Avgaria. Both teams were considered sleeping giants going into the season. Both defeated other strong rivals(Janford College for the Friars, Avgaria Tech for the Rangers), but the U of A came out on top once again to capture their second national championship after finishing third in the conference. Here's what happened during the Redvali National Championship Playoffs.

Mount Maris versus Janford College: This is a rematch that we all wanted to see, that had plenty of G-League talent on the field. Maris won the conference matchup 10-9 in a defensive slugfest, but it was much more high scoring when the two teams met in Outer Avgaria for the first semifinal game. The Friars came out on top 45-35 after Drago Morena connected with Aleix Fuller for touchdowns three times, twice in the second half. Morena finished with five hundred yards, and Fuller's three touchdown grabs ties a record from the first season of the playoff. Edzard Marks tried to carry his team, but ended up with two touchdowns and two picks after a shaky late game. Joakim Armana scored the touchdown that brought them to 35 points with ten minutes left, but their late game rally fell short as Marks failed to connect with his receiver on a post route and allowed Jay Melo to intercept the pass and return it forty yards to set up Morena's third touchdown pass. The game, which is quickly turning into a fierce rivalry, ended on a heated note as Edzard Marks said this: "We don't like them, they don't like us... We were the far better team this season but it is what it is, we got unlucky twice against them. This game is a win for the villains."

University of Avgaria versus Avgaria Tech: Tech was the one loss that the Rangers had going into the playoff, but they completely shut down Tyus Carter in the second matchup with a number of run blitzes and stunts, and the game quickly became lopsided and finished 48-10, a contrast to Tech's 35-31 win at Capital Stadium in the first matchup between the two. Carter only had fifty four rushing yards and a touchdown, and Tech's quarterback shit the metaphorical bed when he threw three interceptions and had no touchdowns. On the other hand, the U of Avgaria put on a show in the air, throwing for four hundred plus yards. Avgaria's Nick Sheffield, the brother of Castle running back Inko Sheffield, dominated the game completely and made sure that the offense ran through him on almost every play. The Rangers set a school record with fifty six passing attempts, but Sheffield didn't disappoint and completely dismantled Tech's shaky secondary. For the first time in years, the U of A and MMU were set up with a matchup with a title on the line.

National championship: Mount Maris versus University of Avgaria: This game had everything. A rematch of a great game from earlier in the season, a great quarterback duel, two high scoring offenses, and an old coach playing to keep his job. It finished in overtime, and it will go down as one of the best capital versus coast games, ever. Here's the audio highlights of the game.

"This is the game that we've all waited to see! Two old rivals who are back on the national scene with everything to play for. If you're just tuning in, the University of Avgaria has the chance to draw first blood, as they're set up on the goal line and trying to punch it in. It's third down, and they're coming out in ace formation. Nick Sheffield takes the snap and drops to the side, he's looking for a post option, and he throws to Key... Wow! Devante Key just caught what looked like an IMPOSSIBLE catch over his shoulder, and it's 6-0 to the Rangers here at Capital Stadium! The green side of the stadium sure is happy right about now!"

"Mount Maris is within striking distance to tie this game at seven, but this is a defense known for bending and not breaking. They're back in shotgun spread, and they're stretching the field as Ite motions out to the left and lines up as a receiver. Morena takes the snap, and the blitz is on. Morena is going to hurl the ball up early to avoid the sack, and Cooper Biro has caught it in his stride and he's at the thirty, the twenty, the ten, nobody is going to catch him! Touchdown, Friars!"

"This defense shut down Tyus Carter, but Lewis Ite has been rolling so far in this game. He's gotten them into a goal line situation, and now they're going to give it to him to punch it in. Looks like he's stopped, but wait! He's bouncing off of his own tight end and reversing, and running into the backfield. The U of A is caught off guard, and Ite is going to walk in for the longest short touchdown I've ever seen! Maris is going to take the lead, and they're offense is dominating!"

"First, it looked like Avgaria would have a field day on offense. Then, it looked like Maris would roll over the Rangers defense. Now, with five minutes left in the third quarter, there's been no more scoring and we're still at a 14-7 score. The Rangers are coming out in ace formation again, and all their receivers are stacked to the right side. Sheffield is going to drop back and throw to the inside, and it's caught by Key! Key is going to walk in for a touchdown and we'll probably be tied with the extra point!"

"The Rangers are lining up in I formation, trying to score their second straight touchdown with a little under three minutes left in the game. They can take the lead, but there's still a lot of time left. Sheffield takes it and hands it off to Riviero, who bounces to the outside and lowers his helmet to push his way in. Touchdown! It's 21-14 to the Rangers, and they only have to hold on for the last two minutes."

"Everyone is back for Avgaria because they know how dangerous the combination of Cooper and Fuller is. Both receivers are going to go deep on the left side... Morena takes the snap, drops back, and he's moving around in the pocket to buy time. He rolls out, throws it underneath the safeties, and Fuller has it. Fuller steps around a tackle and he's in the open field! Can they catch him? No! Aleix Fuller has taken this pass thirty yards after the catch to score, and we are tied with under a minute remaining! If the score stands, it will be only the second title game to go into overtime!"

"Sheffield fakes a throw to the left and steps up in the pocket, there's nobody open, and he's going to take off! Augustus won't catch him! He's going to be brought down by the star linebacker, but the ball already crossed the line! And the Rangers lead it in overtime! Mount Maris must score a touchdown to stay alive in this game!"

"This is it. Fourth and five. Potentially the last play of the game. Drago Morena takes the snap and takes a long drop, and he's looking for Fuller on the curl route but... PICKED OFF TO END THE GAME! AVGARIA AGAIN, AVGARIA AGAIN! The Rangers are on top of the world once again, as they've just captured their second national championship against their bitter rivals! Sheffield is rushing the field in celebration, while Morena is on his knees, holding his head in defeat! The scene can't get any more dramatic than this!"

R League 508-509 Preview: Should be a crazy season

It's almost time for another R-League season, and here's a compilation of quick previews about each club. This season should be crazy, with the Big Three rivalry getting reignited as Janford City loses talent and other clubs catch up to them money wise. The new FC Maris owners want to get them back on top, while Sporting looks to take a more traditional approach and bring up their new generation of young players into the first team. Rovers is also trying to get over last season's humiliation, where they were nearly relegated, and newly promoted Air Force will try to stay up. There's a ton of narratives, and this season will be anything but boring.

Janford City
Manager: Ryn Phillips(51)
Nickname: The Songbirds
Colors: Maroon and black
Kit: Black and red striped shirt, black shorts
Stadium: Janford Sporting Center(49,000)

The super rich club from the island of Janford has dominated the league for the past three years but has lost a lot of talent to rivals when their owner, Mario Lafayette, didn't want to pay up to keep them around. They're built around a solid back four and a front line that isn't flashy but can finish chances when needed, though Lafayette is trying to change this style to be more attacking and that was part of the reason why he brought in Ryn Phillips five years ago. Phillips recently secured another five year contract after managing the threepeat, and this year it looks like he's going to send out a 4-2-3-1 with a focus on defending again until he can bring in some attacking talent. The good defense of this team starts in goal with 30 year old veteran keeper Rohan Milano, and continues with the pair of twenty five year old center backs that hold down the middle, Liam Barrow and Mateo Aquila. Up front, there will be a lot of pressure on lone central striker Elias Basajuan, who is twenty three and has led the forwards for the past three seasons. The expectation for Janford is fourpeat or bust, despite losing so much attacking talent.

FC Maris
Manager: Beito Noriega(35)
Nickname: The Fish
Colors: Blue and red
Kit: Royal blue shirt with red stripe down the middle, blue shorts
Stadium: Flame Park(101,000)

FC Maris is tied with Janford City for championships, with five, and they want to break another title drought and return to their past dominance. This is a team that values flash and flair, and their fans always demand a lot from the players whether it's reasonable or not. This is helped by the notoriously cutthroat Maris press, which has slammed players often in the past and has even led to some players transferring to get away from it. The club and its affiliates were recently bought out for two billion drachmas by local businessman Colombano de Bay, who is paying former Air Force manager Beito Noriega thirty million over three years to take over for Yanick Martins, the very popular manager who left to manage the Anglatian national team. Maris plays an attacking 4-3-3 and their midfield is led by twenty one year old playmaker Cleto Bianchini, while their front line is anchored by twenty seven year old winger Giotto Mariano, the main scoring threat on the team and possibly in the league. Centrally, they've just signed Janford poacher Jose Gallo de Montana, who is twenty four and was the young player of the year five seasons ago. Everyone, from the fans to the press, expects Maris to end the streak of Janfordian dominance. Their fans are extremely infamous for being very aggressive towards the other team and even their own, and those fans expect a title.

Sporting Avgaria
Manager: Collin Milosevic(57)
Nickname: The Foresters
Colors: Forest green and grey
Kit: Forest green shirt, green shorts
Stadium: Capital Stadium(78,000)/National Bank Sporting Complex(21,000)

Avgaria is the eternal enemy of FC Maris, and the boys from the capital have been disappointing recently but should bounce back well. They haven't won for six seasons, though that streak isn't as bad as the nine year drought of their rivals. They've been left behind financially by the top two clubs, but money doesn't make up for a top class organization. Collin Milosevic was signed from Elysia United to develop youth talent for Sporting, and that's exactly what he's doing. The only player in this squad that played a key role in their last title is the thirty three year old Vincent Shaw, who anchors the back line. The attack is very young, led by 19 year old winger Andreas Kohler and 18 year old midfielder Ivo Schuster. The oldest player starting in attack is 28 year old center fielder Joaoinho, who led the team in scoring for the past two years and is a fan favorite for sticking through their bad years. Most of the Avgaria Press have set the expectation this season as qualification for international competition.

Elysia United
Manager: Micah Wolf(46)
Nickname: The Blues
Colors: Blue and white
Kit: Half blue and half white shirt, blue shorts
Stadium: Arcadia(38,000)

One of the new money teams in Redvale is Elysia United, who hasn't been that successful historically but has had a more recent rise and has produced a large number of players for other teams. They have a very strong midfield built around Xzavier Chavez, Mauro Russo, and Jamie Fossen, three very good midfielders who are all under the age of twenty six. Elysia's fanbase is expecting wins over the big teams, and they're expecting a deep Sun Cup run at the very minimum if new manager Micah Wolfe is to gain their approval.

FC Castle
Manager: Valen Ricci(63)
Nickname: The Bayhawks
Colors: Black and gold
Kit: Black shirt and black shorts, with gold trim
Stadium: Castle Lane(55,000)

FC Castle was the last team not named Janford City to win the league, and they still have a pretty strong and balanced squad. Their fans are getting restless, and the Bayhawks have low national expectations but high local ones, and they've also had a transfer window where they've lost some talent to the big three clubs. Their stars in the back are their twenty one year old promising goalkeeper, Luis Santoro de Maris, and thirty one year old fullback Martin Corazon, who has started for the team in each of the last ten seasons. They have one of the more intimidating grounds to play in, and should have a good home record regardless of what happens.

Markham Armor
Manager: Jackson Priestly(56)
Nickname: Armor
Colors: Black and silver
Kit: Black and silver hooped shirt, black shorts
Stadium: The Armory(27,000)

The former military club is another recently successful team and often challenges the big three due to their potent counter attacking strategy that is good at containing better offenses. 29 year old striker Eli Cameron is their main threat but they have okay talent in the midfield also and their defense is solid as usual. Expect Armor to get at least one or two huge upset on the road and even more upset wins at home, despite their ground being smaller.

Skybrough FC
Manager: Alvarez Rossi(39)
Nickname: The Southsiders
Colors: Powder blue and orange
Kit: Powder blue shirt with orange highlights, orange pants
Stadium: Redvali Fuel Stadium(60,000)

Skybrough is one of the youngest cities in Redvale, and the club hailing from the southern part of Janford Island is the younger of the clubs there. But young doesn't mean bad. Skybrough has one title and is very successful on the regional level, and they have almost just as many fans as Janford City. They're considered the more working class right wing club of the two, while Janford City is the rich liberal club, and most supporters of the two take their pick of which one is their favorite based on this. Their black clad supporters also have a knack for getting into trouble, compared to the rest of the league. The Southsiders are led by their twenty six year old playmaker, Simon Valle Rojas, and their nineteen year old 6'8 wonderkid forward, Boja Velazquez. Boja scored twenty goals last season, and he has the potential to be the next dominant forward in Redvale after great performances against the biggest teams, including braces against FC Maris and Janford City.

Glenham Athletic
Manager: Nic Tagawa(65)
Nickname: The Gs
Colors: Green and black
Kit: Green and black stripes with black shorts
Stadium: Glenham Municipal Stadium(36,000)

Glenham had a great season awhile back and won the title, but they've never gotten back to that point. The club was marred in financial troubles and they've been relegated once since then, and have been in relegation battles for two of the past five seasons. They have however bounced back under manager Nic Tagawa and are expected to finish mid table this season. Markham has a reputation for building around free agents, as seen by them signing 40 year old former Maris striker Aki Nunez, who sat out last season and is notably old enough that his daughter is a starter for the FC Maris women's team.

Maris Rovers
Manager: Karen Martinez de Bay(26)
Nickname: Rovers
Colors: Red and white
Kit: White shirt with red sleeves and white shorts
Stadium: Bay Stadium(25,000)

The smaller club in Maris is Rovers, who are far less successful recently. Unlike their crosstown rivals, they only have one title and one Sun Trophy, but they're a club with a lot of heart and they have a promising young manager who loves the team and grew up just blocks away from the stadium and is an expert at advanced statistics. They barely survived the drop last season after defeating Skybrough on the final day to win the required points to stay safe, but they aren't completely hopeless this year: their board is investing more money into their lineup and they were able to bring in star Janford central midfielder Sasha Brewer, who is twenty two and had thirteen assists last season.

Air Force FC
Manager: Johannes Detmarr(48)
Nickname: The Robins
Colors: Black and blue
Kit: Black and blue striped shirt, black shorts
Stadium: Markham Park(19,000)

Air Force FC won the Midvale provincial championship sixteen times, but this is their first time playing in the R League. They narrowly won promotion on the last day of last season when they beat the odds to blank Ravenfeld on the road to kill the hopes of Markham United. The team isn't directly owned by the Redvali Air Forces anymore, but does pay for the Air Forces' college sports teams. They classically have a very defensively organized style based off of counter attacking and they also typically have a lot of success with a tiny payroll. Now, they're just trying to survive and work on rebuilding their roster for a higher league, and getting it up to the standard of their women's team that already plays in their top division.

National Championship League: Janford domination rolls on

Janford City has won the R League three straight times and they also take home the crown from the National Championship League after finishing 5-1-2 and getting some dominant wins. The relegated team this time around is Elysia United, who went 0-0-8 and failed to get a single point out of the eight matches. Elias Basajuan finished as the leading scorer, with 12 goals, and Liam Barrow finished with eight assists in eight appearances. Because of this victory, Janford City will represent Redvale in the UICA CC as national champs in addition to being champions of the R League.

Women's provincial leagues: Chaos reigns early on

Before the start of the R League, the women's football season has kicked off with a bang. This season looks to be a battle between the blue bloods and the noveau riche, as FC Maris looks to get back to their high expectations and the Elysia Blues try to defend their title and hold the other teams that want their players at bay. Elysia had never won the league before last season, but they had a number of breakout performances and swept Maris home and away as well as beating Sporting Women on the road and sweeping a contending Castle team. The first competition of the year for most teams is provincial competition, and some teams that were expected to do well did well. Others? Not so much. Each of these competitions represents a specific region, and here's how each one went.

Women's Campionato di Maris

Sixteen teams from Greater Maris were divided into two groups of eight, where they played each other once and then advanced to a four team single elimination knockout round. Out of all of them, FC Maris showed up and proved why they're the most popular women's team in the country. They defeated Maris Rovers 6-0 in their opening match, and then won their next two matches by 2-0 and 4-1 before playing on the road at Harbor FC and being held to a 2-2 draw. They bounced back by defeating North Bay in their closest match so far, which was 4-3. In that match, their star center fielder Sofia Cruze scored all four goals and reached 100 goals all time with Maris at the age of twenty four years old. After completing the group stage with two more shutout wins, Cruze had eleven goals to lead the team in scoring.

The front line of FCM has been nothing but dominant and consists of Cruze playing as a false nine below the 20 year old and 6'7 Hiroyo Nunez and the shorter but more mobile and fast Marlene Corredor. Nunez had forty eight goals in all competitions last season and Corredor had thirty five, and the trio are the most dominant group of three players to ever play together in the RW League. They showed why they have that label when they combined for nine goals in the last two matches. Their semifinal game brought them up against that pesky Harbor FC team again, but they beat Harbor's press to defeat them 4-2. Nunez scored a brace and had two goals in the first ten minutes of the second half with her head, while Cruze scored twice from range after making runs through defenders.

The other side of the bracket saw Rovers bouncing back to set up a matchup with the Maris Knights. Knights is one of the stronger lower league teams, and they're always a threat to upset someone in knockout tournaments. They did just that when they took on Rovers at home in front of a crowd of 10,000, in South Maris. Knights has a very promising midfielder, Cora Blazen, who took over the match and played everywhere from defensive mid to false nine. Blazen, 21, scored the opening goal in the sixth minute when she danced through the defense and chipped Rover's keeper Christine Domen. Knights then compressed into a defensive 5-3-2 for the rest of the half and absorbed pressure from Rovers until the halftime whistle.

Midway through the second half, they allowed Rovers to push all ten outfielders forward to hunt for a goal against their low block, and then sprung out of their 5-3-2 and went into a 4-3-3 quickly, and Blazen made another run and caught them off guard, putting defender Mia Enomoto on skates and scoring from range for the 2-0 lead. Star Rovers striker Dagmar Frey pulled one back in stoppage time when Knights made a bad turnover in their own defensive zone, but it was too little too late. Knights was set to play FC Maris for the third time in the history of both women's clubs.

The final was at Harbor Gate, the 23,000 seater stadium that's been a fortress to FC Maris' women's squad for the past six seasons since it opened. The match that happened between the two teams there was a slugfest, plain and simple. Knights jumped out to an early lead because of a tenth minute Cora Blazen free kick, and they retreated into their low block and forced Maris to break them down through passing and not through speed. Cruze, Nunez, and Corredor spent almost all of the half passing the ball around with their midfield, trying to find a way to get through into the box. Just before halftime, Cruze cut inside with a dribble move and was kicked in the shin, giving her a penalty kick.

The star forward looked nervous in her run up, and she shot the kick over the crossbar somehow. Knights got bailed out by her nerves and went into the half up 1-0 on the most popular club in the country. Maris manager Shay Hara was pissed at her team at halftime and sent them out in a 4-2-4 in the second half to break down the Knights defense, but Blazen switched to playing a midfield destroyer role and caused serious problems for them. Despite the midfield breakdown, Hiroyo Nunez took it upon herself to secure the win for her team. She rifled the tying goal into the corner of the net from twenty seven yards back, without having to enter the box at all. Rumors say that Nunez is very unhappy with her role, and she hinted that they could be true when she chose not to celebrate with her teammates and instead ran back to the center circle calmly.

Knights responded by putting all eleven players back, and they held on through the end of the match to force extra time. Blazen drew first blood in that session when she surprised the defense by running out of her low defensive position and receiving the ball at the top of the box before spinning out of a tackle and finishing calmly, and Knights fans thought that they could hold on for the upset. They were wrong. Maris hadn't put on a strong midfield performance, but 23 year old Kylie Calderon came out of nowhere with the tying goal from just outside the box. She had been tracking the rebound from Corredor's shot, but the ball landed at her feet and she took two hops back before taking a shot that nutmegged one member of the defense before flying past the keeper.

The clinching goal came at the end of the second extra time session, when Maris had a corner. Corredor took it and sent it to the far post, and Nunez beat her marker to head it down for the possible ugliest cup clinching goal ever. Blazen took a long range shot as the final whistle blew, but it went off of the post to end the match. It was harder than expected, but FC Maris Ladies took home their 17th Women's Campionato di Maris, and they broke a three year drought of not winning the competition. It was a tournament to remember for them, though it showed that their attack is indeed human and that they can be stopped by a high level of defensive organization.

Women's Copa del Janford

The Copa del Janford is a smaller sized competition but it's still very competitive. Eight teams are broken into groups of four, and there's a round robin before the top two teams from each group advance to the four team knockout stage. Janford Roses came in as the heavy favorites, and disappointed severely. They lost their opening match 1-0 to Janford Westend, and drew to the Skybrough Dukes 2-2 in their second, and in each match, their team leaders didn't score. Janford plays from the wings, and Carice Bueno and Tori Escelara flat out didn't show up. The two wingers are usually their stars and top scorers, but they finished the first two matches with only one assist and no goals between the two of them.

On the other side of the bracket, Skybrough FC brought quite a ferocious squad to the tournament, one that's hungry for their eighth title. They have two elite fullbacks in Maria Santoro and Justine Canales de Midvale, both of whom are solid defenders and extremely dangerous as counter attackers. This Skybrough side is designed to absorb pressure and then leap off of the metaphorical ropes to land a quick goal, and that tactic is helped by their top defensive midfielder who just signed from Sporting Women, Lisa Campoy. Campoy, 29, was picked up for her veteran leadership and not just for her counter attacking prowess, and she led the team to 3-0, 1-0, and 2-0 wins in their matches against Southside FC, Bankers United, Deportivo Janford, and then she scored a brace in a 5-0 demolition of the Janford Owls college team. Their leading scorer through this run was 24 year old Amanda Gallardo, who was the tallest starting striker in the RW League last season at 6'8. Gallardo had a hat trick in the semifinals against Bankers United to secure a 3-1 win, leading to a final matchup with the Roses, who had defeated Westend in their semifinal on PKs after a 1-1 draw.

The final was more competitive than the earlier matches. Janford finally got themselves up to play against their eternal enemy, and they went up 2-0 inside of the first ten minutes due to a first minute strike from Bueno and a defensive error in the tenth minute from Lisa Campoy that resulted in an own goal while attempting to clear a cross. But Skybrough had home field advantage, and their rowdy fans pushed the team to victory. Just before the half could end, Gallardo got another goal after heading in a corner kick, and in the 56th minute, Campoy volleyed the ball through the middle of the field to attacking midfielder Tessa Voigt, who kicked the ball down and then finished with her other foot a few yards away from the keeper.

Play was stopped at the beginning of extra time when Campoy was tripped at the edge of the box by Escelara, and the benches cleared for a fight between the two teams that lasted eight minutes. When the pushing and shoving stopped, Campoy was red carded for starting the fight and Escelara was given her second yellow card for the tackle, and both teams were down to ten women. As soon as play started again, Santoro stole the ball and made a quick run into the box where she cooly finished to take the lead in the 99th minute. The final whistle blew shortly afterwards, and Skybrough pulled off one of the biggest upsets in recent memory as they took down their rivals from the city of Janford, capturing their eighth Copa in the process.

Midvale Cup

The Midvale Cup is one of the most hotly contested, and it's played mainly between the teams from Markham, Glenham, Ravenfeld, and Elysia. The first stages happened as we expected, and Glenham Athletic and Elysia Blues won their groups, but Air Force still managed to storm back from the dead to capture title number eleven. They finished second, with a loss to Ravenfeld and another to Elysia, but when they met Elysia in their semifinal match, they destroyed them 4-1 behind a strong counter attack and a masterclass performance from forward Brigid Hale and center fielder Marcia Weiss, who each had a brace. Elysia on the other hand defeated Markham United in the semifinals to advance to a rivalry match final against Air Force, but their plans of winning their fifth title were quickly dashed.

Everyone expected Elysia to run away with the Midvale Cup because of their heavy investment in both their men's and women's teams recently, but they lacked organization and were ripped to shreds by Weiss on the counter attack. Weiss connected with Hale through the middle of the field for the first goal in the fifth minute, and then in the twentieth minute, she helped Hale to a brace by counter attacking out to the wing and crossing the ball inside for a headed goal. Hale got her hat trick before the half when she curled in a 38th minute free kick for the 3-0 lead.

As if the demolition wasn't humiliating enough, Air Force added on two more counter attacking goals in the 60th and 89th minutes from Weiss and from their number one prospect, eighteen year old playmaking midfielder Sara Torres de Valle. Torres de Valle ran down a through ball from Hale and shot around the goalie, and then celebrated in front of Elysia's traveling fans who had came all the way to Markham to see their team get dismantled. Elysia will definitely have to target some decent defenders this transfer window, as even their ownership admitted that Air Force showed everyone their fatal flaw.

Other Cup Champions:

FC Castle took home the Southern Coast Cup for the 25th time, defeating Fjordham FC behind very strong striking in a tournament where they won every match by 3 or more goals. Castle should be dangerous in the RW League, though it's impossible to know how much yet because they haven't exactly played top preseason competition like Air Force or Skybrough. Elsewhere, Sporting Women went undefeated on their way to the Copa Avgaria final before losing on penalties to Avgaria Northend, who won their 4th Copa and made Sporting fans restless after managing to play to a 4-4 draw and hold on through extra time to force the penalties. Sporting Women has sacked their entire staff and will be looking for a new manager to bring them back to their former heights. Mount Maris also won the women's college championship, defeating rivals Avgaria Tech in the final by a scoreline of 4-2.

CAM - Aika Prince - 21 - Keephall Valkyries - Abanhfleft - (Not the most athletic but has a genius level IQ on and off of the pitch)
GK - Maura Rush - 21 - Keephall Valkyries - Abanhfleft - (She's slow, but tall and athletic enough to make big saves when needed)
ST - Hiroyo Nunez - 20 - Handon United - Schottia - (A 6'8 physical freak of nature who left Maris because her ego is too big for her own good)
GK - Finnr Morrow - 21 - FADA - Unified Sunrise Islands - (Streaky and inconsistent keeper who relies too much on his emotions)

Football: Both leagues kick off in exciting opening weeks

The preseason has shown that this season will have many interesting narratives, for both the R-League and the RW-League. The opening weeks of both leagues proved as much, with some things happening just as we expected and some things subverting what we all thought would happen. There's also a few major transfer stories already: Sporting Avgaria is shopping for a young star to play near Andreas Kohler. FC Maris Ladies could be moving on from Hiroyo Nunez, after the star striker edited a group photo with the rest of the team to remove herself from it. Janford City reportedly has received authorization from their board to pay whatever they need to attract a player with the potential to become recognized worldwide. But let's get to the games themselves, which provided plenty of excitement.

R League

Week One: Champions Janford City opened up the season on a Friday night at home, against rivals FC Maris. The Janford Sporting Center was sold out, but 49,000 screaming fans weren't enough to save the home team from falling to the new look squad of the Fish, who stormed in and took everything they wanted with ease. Former Janford man Jose Gallo de Montana opened scoring ten minutes in when Cleto Bianchini played the ball down the middle of the field for him, and he slotted home the shot before Rohan Milano could dive to get a hand on it. Janford had a mountain to climb after that to make a comeback, and they got pulled out of position and gave up the second goal when Hirai Jeong made a long run and then fired the ball off of the post and in before halftime. The Fish would go on to rip open Janford on the counter attack two more times, with second half goals from Gallo de Montana and Giotto Mariano.

Elsewhere, Sporting Avgaria had to visit Maris Rovers and received a nasty surprise from Karen Martinez de Bay's squad. Dagr Lewis had a free kick deflected to the feet of Sasha Brewer, who finished from long range during the first minute to take an early lead, and Rovers never looked back. Despite having more Sporting fans in their stadium than Rovers fans, they held on by playing with all eleven players back during the first half and then came off of the metaphorical ropes in the sixtieth minute when Sasha Brewer caught the defense off guard, sent Bryn Knight to the ground, and whipped the ball inside for Christian Naranja to head to the far post for the second goal of the game. Sporting would lose the game 2-0 for the first shock result of the season.

Week Two: The all-Midvale clash between Air Force and Glenham lived up to expectations. Air Force has a young team built on a system and Glenham has a team of individualistic vets, and the two styles clashed all game long. The first goal came when Aki Nunez turned back the clock and knocked the ball into goal a half hour into the match, with his head. The 40 year old is Glenham's oldest scorer, but he doesn't seem to be showing signs of slowing down. Air Force closed down and held on for the rest of the first half, and then switched to a more counter attacking style in the second half before Kanto Ray scored the tying goal fifteen minutes in, after making a run through the entire defense and chipping the keeper. It looked like a 1-1 draw would be the result, or at least it did until Geir Torres knocked down a volley with his head and then spun around for the finish in the crowded box in the 3rd minute of extra time, to give AFFC the last minute win.

In the other interesting games, FC Maris continued their three game road trip by heading to FC Castle, and a Gallo de Montana hat trick in the second half led them over the local team after going down 1-0 in the first half because of a Martin Corazon free kick. Sporting Avgaria managed to rebound from their early loss when Andreas Kohler put two goals past Elysia, which was enough for the 2-1 home win. Janford City would have to settle for a goalless draw in Midvale, as they left Markham without getting a single goal and not being able to break down the Markham trap defense.

RW League

Week One: FC Maris got off to a good start in women's football, too. They took on FC Castle at Harbor Gate and tore their defense apart, with Hiroyo Nunez gaining a first half hat trick with two headers and one left footed goal, and in the second half, Sofia Cruze had a breakaway chance to increase the lead to 4. Nunez is quite the controversial figure right now, after she edited herself out of a team photo and then was sighted in eastern Maris having dinner with her parents and the manager of the Maris Rovers' men's team, Karen Martinez de Bay. Rumors say she feels unappreciated because of Sofia Cruze, and it appears that the two aren't speaking, even on the pitch.

Sporting Women also got back to their winning ways, if even just for one match. They started off by announcing former Anglatian national team manager Wilson Tahiri as their new head man, and then they spent seventeen million to bring in midfielder Cora Blazen, who had a hat trick against Glenham in her first match. Skybrough also defeated local rivals Bankers United once again, 3-2 behind goals from Lisa Campoy and Maria Santoro.

Football: Janford drops, Sporting and Maris rise again as transfer drama heats up

Transfers! Everyone either loves them or hates them, but there's no escaping the drama of a transfer window. For the teams of Redvale, foreign talent in the league is a new thing, but the top clubs are already bringing in talent from abroad to bolster their ranks. Janford opened things up by signing free agent Bryce Burnett, a 31 year old physical box to box midfielder, from Chenoworth Harriers in Nephara, to fill a gap in their central midfield that may end their early slump. Sporting Avgaria also picked up another young talent to play near Andreas Kohler, bringing in Alan Alexander from Copenbrok Klub. Alexander found himself out of the first team, and so the young Schottic winger became a free agent and joined the giants from the capital.

While the big teams were looking to sign players to increase their title hopes, Glenham brought in attacking midfielder Gris Mason from Cosumar because he's thirty years old and therefore will cost less to keep. They're trying to stay up while keeping an affordable payroll, meaning Mason should walk straight into the first team and could become a key player in their plans to stay in the R-League. He's not the only Cosumarite to join the R-League; Twenty six year old Callie Flores couldn't get playing time in Crawlford and agreed to terms with FC Maris Ladies, who have a top heavy team that desperately need stability in the back. She should easily be a starter for them, and her experience abroad should be valuable to the other players on the squad.

Most recently, Sporting Women has had a flurry of activity as Wilson Tahiri has taken over. Several players were released, and others were brought in to replace them. Three players have arrived from Eastfield Lodge during this period; Strikers Nya Murray and Justice Pierce, and goalkeeper Dana Hutchins. All three are eighteen year olds who have graduated their academy teams. Murray particularly looks promising and will see immediate playing time, while Hutchins and Pierce will train with the first team but likely won't start right away. Tahiri's moves are quite interesting because he's the first Redvali manager to really lean on foreign talent, and only time can show if his efforts to turn around the squad will be successful.

R LEAGUE

WEEK THREE

Sporting was upset for the second time in two weeks when they came back home to Capital Stadium and then lost 2-1 to Air Force behind a brace from Geir Torres. Andreas Kohler scored a dazzling free kick in the 87th minute, but it was too little too late. The Sporting defense is shaky and inconsistent, as seen when Geir Torres was left unmarked on a corner for his first goal, and when he beat Bryn Knight around the edge to score his second goal of the game in the 70th minute. FC Maris, however, went top of the league by defeating Glenham at home, in a match where Mo Araki had the only goal. The top three through three weeks consists of FCM, Rovers, and Air Force, while Markham is at the bottom next to Janford and Sporting.

WEEK FOUR

Skybrough took on Janford in the first really big derby of the season, in what was a chaotic match. Boya Velazquez scored his first derby goal on a breakaway chance inside of the first twenty minutes, but then Liam Barrow came through in the clutch with a headed goal on a corner kick. The teams went into the half deadlocked 1-1, before the match was stopped because of a massive fight involving the traveling Skybrough fans and the locals. When the match restarted soon after the second half began, Aiyo Asanuma scored what would be the game winning goal. The loss saw Ryn Phillips' side fall in the standings and Alvarez Rossi's side rise to third.

Sporting also managed to get their season back on track behind Kohler's brace against a struggling Markham side, and they ended up winning 4-1 at home to move out of the bottom three. FC Maris continued their winning streak by putting six past Air Force in a 6-2 victory, and Jose Gallo de Montana's hat trick moved him up to top scorer in the league.

WEEK FIVE

Elysia is struggling despite their recent success in the last four years, and a Sporting team with new momentum completely took it to them in a 3-0 demolition in Avgaria. Collin Milosevic has gotten his team to believe in themselves, and Ivo Schuster assisted both Alan Alexander and Joaoinho in the win. The Schottian scored in his second game for the club after joining them from Semarland to get first team football, and Joaoinho has gotten into form after a very slow start to the season, scoring from thirty yards out to complete his brace.

RW-League: Maris rolls, Sporting inconsistent

Through the next four weeks of the RW-League, FC Maris has been undefeated. They went to Skybrough and won a very hard fought match 2-0 behind both goals from Hiroyo Nunez, before coming home and destroying Bankers United 7-0. Then they won 3-1 versus Markham and 2-1 at Elysia, the latter win being a late comeback where Sofia Cruze scored the game winner just before stoppage time could start. The reason why they've been undefeated is simply because their front line has been absolutely dominant, and unselfish. With the exception of Kylie Calderon, the midfield hasn't been that great, but the forwards have managed to keep the ball in their opponent's half of the field enough that it didn't matter much, even against good competition. Shay Hara, however, has been frustrated with her team's play in the midfield, and to fix that concern, she signed former Schottian U-21 national team midfielder Lorna Wilson.

She said this about Wilson: "We have a hole in our midfield behind Kylie and we're going to be immediately using her to fill that gap. Our record doesn't say much about how good we are, and I doubt we're going to be able to continue beating the best teams if this is how we play."

In the same press conference, she addressed concerns about Hiroyo Nunez transferring: "It's not off the table, but I signed Nat Casarine for a reason and I'm confident in her ability to step in if Hiroyo does decide to leave us, which I doubt will happen during the first half of the season. It's true that she's unhappy, but we have a lot of big personalities on our squad and it's impossible for everyone to get what they want."

Meanwhile, Sporting Women has been a mixed bag. The team had two wins and two draws in the same time span, drawing 0-0 with Air Force and 1-1 with the Elysia Blues. During those draws, Cora Blazen scored their only goal. But then their front line got hot and led them to back to back wins. Nya Murray scored her first goals for the club in a brace against Rovers for the 2-1 win, and then Justice Pierce headed in a Cora Blazen cross against FC Castle to secure the 1-0 win. New manager Wilson Tahiri has completely changed the atmosphere around Sporting and not just the roster, and he said this:

"We've been hearing a lot about how we aren't as good as the side that went back to back to back in the RW League and our main goal right now is getting back to that standard. Nobody said it was going to be easy... Of course it's going to hurt to part ways with players that aren't helping us and of course we're going to lose until we can reach the position of being winners. That's why I'm here on a three year contract... This is just the start of a long rebuilding prospect, and I think everyone on the team has better perspective than you journalists."

Through five out of twenty weeks, the table looks like this in the RW League.
1: FC Maris
2: Skybrough FC
3: Janford Roses
4: Air Force
5: Sporting
6: FC Castle
7: Elysia Blues
8: Maris Rovers
9: Glenham Athletic
10: Bankers United

Through the first five weeks, Janford has been quietly putting together a better performance than their men's team, led by their two wingers. Skybrough has also been almost as good as FC Maris, only tripping up with a week 3 upset loss to Air Force after Brigid Hale won and scored a controversial penalty deep into the second half to break a 3-3 deadlock. Surprisingly, they have the best defense in the league, mainly because of their elite fullback pairing and their star DM, Lisa Campoy. Bankers United's only points have come from a 1-1 draw with Glenham, and their absolutely bad attack has made them favorites for relegation. Week six will be a big one for the standings, as it's derby week. Maris will take on Sporting, and Janford will take on Skybrough, in a weekend that should draw record crowds. It remains to be seen which team is truly best.

Division Two: Castle United keeps on winning

Division Two is seven weeks into its season, but there's only one team worth mentioning. Castle United. They're a perfect seven for seven in wins, because they're loaded with foreign talent and a few good local prospects. The reason behind this is because the team is owned directly by Bay Athletics and indirectly by the Maris Trading Corporation, who has the goal of getting them into the R-League. Castle United started off in Division Four, but was promoted back to back after being taken over. Recently, their corporate overlords have bought them a number of foreign players to aid their quest to getting to the top division. Out of these, the most impactful have been midfielders Johan Lind and Marco Saint Paul, and forward Arjen Clijsters, who has a knack for outsmarting the defense and scoring as an inside forward. Saint Paul, on the other hand, is an all around midfielder that will already be familiar to Redvali fans because he's from another Northern Isles nation, Anglatia.

The Maris Black Knights are CU's main opposition, and they met on matchday seven. The Black Knights were second, with one loss, and they had to visit MTC Arena with a chance to go top. And it's not that they don't have talented players, because their academy graduate Mikel Henderson is one of the most sought after prospects in Redvale at striker, and so is their attacking midfielder, Kellen Casillas. But those two players didn't match up to the Semar and Nepharese talent of the Wings, and Castle United rolled over them. They were up 2-0 at the half because Marco Saint Paul picked them apart and assisted Clijsters in the tenth minute and Mizar in the seventeenth, but the wheels didn't come off completely until the start of the second half when Castle caught them off guard and Saint Paul made a run through the defense and chipped the keeper. The Black Knights were pressing to get a goal to get back in the match when Clijsters stole the ball and charged down the wing before cutting inside and finishing from close range to bring the lead to 4-0, fifteen minutes later.

After the match finished 4-0, Maris had their second loss and Castle was seven for seven with wins. Now, the top three consists of Castle United, Avgaria Northend, and the Maris Black Knights, with Northend only having one loss. We'll see if they can be a better challenger to Castle in a few weeks, when they head to MTC Arena to see if they can survive in the atmosphere that the Knights folded in.

REGULAR SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

The Glenham Green were the major story this season. Former Mount Maris University head coach Diogo Reyes took over for his first professional job, and guided the Green from a finish where they didn't make the postseason to one where they won the Valley Conference. The Green are owned by FC Maris owner Colombano de Bay, but his money didn't bring immediate success. Their last title was largely believed to be a weird fluke, and they lost many of their good players the following year. Diogo Reyes came in and revived them by installing his shotgun based spread offense, and he revitalized their offense by bringing in controversial Maris Mountaineers quarterback Andel Ramirez and giving the twenty three year old the starting job right away. He also brought in thirty four year old veteran wide receiver Dante Birken, who turned back the clock and led the team and the conference in scoring. On defense, the Green did just enough to win and were headlined by their two stud corners, Mario Destinn and Avery Clasen.

The Castle Devils were their main competition for the conference title, but they defeated them 13-6 in week 3. Andel Ramirez threw both touchdowns to down a team that he was already familiar with playing, and both teams had failed two point conversions. Glenham then had to go to North Bay to play the defending champs, but they took them out 24-38 after being down at halftime. They held the Priests to only a field goal after the half, and in the second, Ramirez tossed another two touchdowns and would finish with three. Glenham had a really big win a few weeks later when they annihilated Maris Mountaineers 36-3 on the road.

They did take a loss 16-13 to the Markham Knights going into the postseason, but they won the tiebreaker for the conference title over Castle because of head to head record. Diogo Reyes expressed confidence in his team's chances, and said that they had great momentum regardless of losing to a last second field goal. "I think we're the favorites," he said in a press conference. "We have better chances than anyone else right now... Maris has QB problems and our matchup, Avgaria, has been inconsistent all year. We're going to exploit those inconsistencies."

Meanwhile, the Maris Tide won the Island Conference by posting an 8-4 record and beating everybody that they needed to beat, when it really mattered. They started 2-2 with road losses to Midland and South Coast, but they tightened up their defense and managed to only lose two more games for the rest of the season. Elysia should have had a choke hold on the conference after a 3-0 start, but they folded and finished with five losses as they missed the postseason. The Tide have the advantage of having popular and legendary head coach Jack Havik, but they came into the season unsure of who their quarterback is as their former starter, the twenty six year old Martin Jansa, was returning from a shoulder injury. It took Jansa six games to return as the full time starter, but he was lights out near the end of the season and threw seven touchdowns in the last two games.

Their big rivals, the Avgaria Hawks, finished with one less win and advanced into the postseason via tiebreaker. The Hawks started a rookie at QB, University of Avgaria star Nick Sheffield, and this decision had mixed consequences. Sheffield had a very good arm for most of the year but had bad decision making and directly cost them three of their five losses with big interceptions at the wrong time. Their defense, however, was the best in the conference and second best in the league, and their rookie running back Tyus Carter carried them through the bad stretches. Their young team had growing pains for sure, but they'll be very dangerous for Glenham, who has them as their semifinal matchup. They can run the ball for many times in a row before ripping a defense open with play action passes, a strategy that benefits them when they're holding leads.

The matchups are now set for the postseason, and record attendances and viewership is expected for the games. As the higher seeds, Maris and Glenham will play at home. The final site for this season is at the Elysia Dome, meaning that there will be a true neutral crowd for whichever teams do make it. Whatever happens, it's bound to be an exciting season as the Green look for their second title in three years and Maris looks to become a dynasty again by potentially defeating one of their most beloved figures in the final.

Gridiron: The 30th G-League Postseason

The road to the Red Trophy is always a long and hard one, even for the best of teams. It's a journey that leads through the tough regular season and through two of the hardest games imaginable, the semifinal matchup against a team from the opposite conference and then the final game, at a neutral site. This season was the 30th in the history of The Gridiron League, making it an extra special postseason. This edition of the Postseason saw record TV ratings across the country, and saw 99,000 people pack the Elysia Dome for the largest ever sporting event in that city. This is how things went down.

Castle Devils 6-3 Maris Tide

The first of the two semifinal games saw the Castle Devils heading on the road to a very hostile Flame Arena to face the Tide, and this could be considered the defensive game of the year. The Tide had a worse regular season record, but were six and a half point favorites at home according to Janford. For most of the game, the score was 0-0. The first points came in the third quarter after the Tide took a 3-0 lead, but Castle quarterback Damien Saric led the Devils on a sixty yard drive on the next possession that stalled out and ended on a field goal to tie the game at 3-3. Martin Jansa had a chance to win the game near the start of the fourth quarter, but on third and three from the twelve yard line, he threw an interception on a curl route that was returned for forty yards and eventually set up the game winning field goal for Castle, who held on after stopping Maris four times at the fifty yard line on the last drive of the game.

Avgaria Hawks 0-35 Glenham Green

Once again, Avgaria sports fans are lamenting Diogo Reyes destroying one of their teams. The Marisian legend has a great record against teams from the capital, and continued that in the G-League as his Green defended Bay Athletics Park without conceding a single point. Andel Ramirez showed why he deserves his upcoming national team call up when he flung the ball all over the field during that game and threw touchdowns to four different receivers. The Hawks offense, quite frankly, collapsed in this game, as Nick Sheffield threw for two interceptions and Tyus Carter fumbled on his own goal line to set up the first touchdown pass from Ramirez. It just goes to show that while the Green are primarily a team that wins from their offense, they're dangerously balanced and their aggressive defense is capable of winning games on its own if needed.

Glenham Green 17-14 Castle Devils

The Devils defense wasn't enough to win the Red Trophy, despite their late comeback efforts. The teams went into the locker room tied 7-7 at the half after passing touchdowns from each quarterback, but Andel Ramirez connected with Dante Birken near the start of the third quarter to jump to a seven point lead. It wouldn't be until there were five minutes left in the game that Damien Saric would find his receiver heading deep for a forty nine yard touchdown, but Ramirez would complete eight straight passes on the next drive to set up what would be the championship clinching field goal from Akio Dellanova. Saric would have one more chance, but would see the drive fall short after throwing deep and being intercepted by Avery Clasen near the end of the game. Glenham's offense shone when it needed to, and their conference best defense was suffocating for most of the game, leading them to their second title and Diogo Reyes' first title in the G-League. Their season is believed to be one of the greatest in Redvali history, as they came in as underdogs playing a QB marred by off the field controversy and a wide receiver corps led by one of the oldest players on their team. Both teams in the final had excellent seasons, but in the end, it came down to the Green having one of the all time best coaches calling the shots, and having a quarterback able to make every throw needed.

Football: Janford stable, FCM keeps on winning

More weeks have passed in football season, and the defending champions are returning to form in time to make a push to win something. Their increase in form could be attributed to their successes in the preliminary rounds of the Globe Cup, and despite the crowded schedule, the Songbirds have managed to soar up the table recently. FC Maris has also continued to win, and Sporting Avgaria has been a mixed bag recently and it's usually hard to tell which Avgaria team will turn up come gameday. Here's the recap of the most recent weeks of the season.

WEEK SIX
Sporting kicked the week off when they played at home against a floundering Markham side, and showed how they can play when they're at their best. Alan Alexander got a goal five minutes into the match, and then the Schottic winger crossed the ball over the middle of the defense ten minutes later to connect with Joaoinho, who has found his form recently. They'd go into halftime with that 2-0 lead and Markham would go all in to try to get a result, but the pressure from the home crowd would get to them. Centerback Vincent Shaw picked up an easy goal when he was left unmarked on a corner kick to go up 3-0, and Sporting scored their final goal in the closing minutes when Andreas Kohler took the ball after a mistake and shot the ball from close range. That was the only really notable result from this week, aside from Glenham picking up a 1-0 win and moving further towards safety, behind Aki Nunez's screamer of a goal.

WEEK SEVEN
FC Maris had a challenge when they had to take on their crosstown rivals, Maris Rovers, on the road. It was another classic matchup between the port team and the team from the big city, and Karen Martinez de Bay and her men almost shocked the Fish in front of a very supportive crowd. There's a ton of optimism around Rovers this season, and the crowd wasn't half filled with FCM fans like it usually is for the derby. Rovers actually struck first when their newest young signing, sixteen year old Arkady Rozier, beat Kam Eto in the open field and then passed the ball inside to Sasha Brewer, who tapped it into the back of the net in the twenty second minute. Rozier exposed the FCM weakness at fullback, and it was a weakness that Rovers looked to exploit all game long. Before the half was over, they doubled their lead when Brewer cut inside and drew a penalty, which was taken and scored by Dagr Lewis. They showed in the second half just how fast they can come back, though. It only took one minute for Jose Gallo de Montana to win a ball in the air over the box, and then to use an impressive scissor kick to pull one back. In the fifty eighth minute, Hirai Jeong booted the ball to the wing for Giotto Mariano, who crossed inside to Gallo de Montana for his second goal of the match. It appeared a draw was in order, at least until Mo Araki got free on the wing, cut inside, and then passed the ball backwards to Cletto Bianchini, who finished his only chance of the match to give the Fish a 3-2 lead at the end of the match. Rovers fans were left stunned, and FCM kept their impressive record against their rivals in tact with the great comeback.

Janford City, however, is rising up the table and is looking like their main title competitor again. City went to Elysia and won 3-0 after Elias Basajuan provided a much needed brace, and young winger Deanthony Woods provided another goal. Both players have found their form in the Globe Cup, and now the Songbirds are looking quite dangerous after a sluggish start. Their rivals are, too. Skybrough was Sporting's opponent during the third match of their home stand, and they managed to come out of the match with a 2-2 draw; Cenric Fukomoro and Boya Velazquez provied the goals for Skybrough, and Alan Alexander and Andreas Kohler provided them for Sporting. Markham couldn't find their form like Janford did, though. It's looking likelier and likelier that they'll be the relegated team when it's all said and done, after they lost the Markham Derby 1-0 to Air Force after conceding a late own goal because of pressure from Air Force striker Geir Torres, who proceeded to shush the home crowd after scoring the heartbreaking goal against them.

WEEK EIGHT
Collin Milosevic's seat grew hotter, after Sporting outplayed Janford City and only left with one point. Janford is the hottest team in the league, but they found their defense getting broken down by a Sporting attack that plays from the wings inward. City struck first in the thirtieth minute when Elias Basajuan bagged yet another goal, this one from a corner kick deflection shot, but they weren't able to resist the Sporting attack and soon conceded to Andreas Kohler, who ran by himself down the wing, cut inside, and finished cleanly. Midway through the second half, Ivo Schuster sent the ball through the City defense and towards Joaoinho, who was fouled for a penalty kick that he then scored for the lead, 2-1. The Foresters had no business losing that match or even drawing, but they managed to screw up in the closing minutes when Bryn Knight turned the ball over to Deanthony Woods in a bad position, allowing the young winger to get inside and tie the game in the closing minutes.

FC Maris, preparing for the big derby against Sporting the next week, rolled into Markham and pulled out a 6-0 win in their warmup match, behind a hat trick from Jose Gallo de Montana and goals from Giotto Mariano and Mo Araki. They're top of the table, and they're also looking like the most dangerous attacking team in the league, in traditional Marisian fashion. If there's anyone who can stop them, it's their archrivals... Who just blew the lead to Janford and only took a point away from that game. Things are looking up for Marisian fans right now, and it's looking like their nine year drought will come to an end if their title rivals continue to drop points like this.

WEEK NINE
The first game of the week was the one under the lights at Flame Arena, the Derby of Redvale. FC Maris took on Sporting Avgaria, and in this matchup of the coast versus the capital, it seemed like the whole country stopped. Both teams may not be in the top two like they traditionally have been in past years, but it was still a star studded game with plenty of big names: Gallo de Montana, Mariano, Bianchini, Schuster, Kohler, and Knight. Even the coaching matchup was a big deal, as Beito Noriega took on Collin Milosevic. It sure was a game to remember, and it was eerily reminiscent of the final Derby before FCM won their last R-League title. The scoring in this one was opened up seventeen minutes in, by Giotto Mariano. The winger took on Bryn Knight by himself and after being isolated with the fullback, he burst to the outside and then the inside and lost his man as he went towards goal, finishing from an odd angle for the early lead. Sporting wouldn't stay down for too long. Twenty seven minutes in, Andreas Kohler continued his amazing form, and the youngster beat Kam Eto to a volley and turned around and quickly shot the ball into goal, unassisted. The 1-1 scoreline was standing at the half, and it would stay that way until the seventy seventh minute, when Jose Gallo de Montana managed to get loose and then beat Vincent Shaw one on one to poach another close range goal. The match then stopped because of a brawl between the players, who believed Montana was offside when he received the ball from Cletto Bianchini. Sporting would only get one more good chance in the match, but Kohler's pass to Alan Alexander would only lead to a shot ricocheting off the bar as time expired.

This is what Beito Noriega said about the match once it was over: "This, this is why I was brought in by Colombano de Bay. To win titles. If we want to win titles, we have to win matches like these. And I'm extremely proud of everyone on the team because they showed that even under the brightest lights, even on the biggest stage, they can perform and they can win. It's been nine years since we've won the R-League, and it's not just because of bad luck. It isn't because other teams have been too good, either. It's because these teams haven't been resilient for those nine years, but I think we're getting back to the point where we can consistently beat everybody, week in and week out. I want to use this win as a chance to say what everyone is thinking: The Maris Fish are back."

WEEK TEN
Week ten was less action packed than the last two weeks, but we were treated to a good game in Skybrough as Sasha Brewer and the Rovers handed them their first home loss. Brewer has been impressive so far... Really, really impressive. He'd be getting a lot more recognition if he played for a big club. He had one goal and assisted Dagr Lewis and Christian Naranja when both of them scored also in the 3-2 win. For Skybrough, the goals keep coming from the young wonderkid striker Boya Velazquez. Elsewhere, Janford City almost got a surprise loss to Glenham because of Aki Nunez scoring yet another clutch goal, but they secured the draw when Liam Barrow scored from a direct free kick and then secured the win when Bryce Burnett knocked in a Deanthony Woods cross deep into extra time. Woods, who started the season with the Janford U-23s, has been one of the best young players so far, and has played and scored in the Globe Cup after replacing Felix Bando, who joined Whitehaven Triumph when the transfer window opened for UICA clubs.

RW League: New signings pay off, Fish finally lose

While the FC Maris Fish have been dominating in the R-League, their women's team has done pretty well too. So have their rivals, the Foresters of Sporting Avgaria Women. With rumors that the federation could change things so the winner of the RW League gains a spot in the Globe Cup, the race to the title has been especially intense so far. Here's how things have gone in weeks five through ten.

WEEK FIVE

FC Maris Ladies was still top of the table and Sporting Women were below Janford and Air Force going into this game. However, they could jump over both teams with a win, and they would get it at home at a sold out Capital Stadium. Wilson Tahiri is known for motivating his players to win in the biggest games, and he was able to do that, albeit just barely. The Foresters went down 2-0 in the first twenty minutes after Marlene Corredor caught them sleeping as the defense crashed in on Sofia Cruze in the middle of the field, and they doubled their lead when Lorna Wilson headed in Kylie Calderon's free kick for her first goal with her new club. The former Schottian U-21 player arrived with huge expectations on her shoulders, and for Maris fans, seeing her get a goal was a huge relief. But Sporting wasn't just going to roll over and lose. Before the half could end, they pulled one back when Cora Blazen trapped Nya Murray's volley and spun around Callie Flores to finish an open chance on goal.

The Marisians were still confident, until the sixtieth minute when Justice Pierce broke through the Maris back three and stepped around the keeper, tapping the ball in for her third goal of the season. Suddenly, the match was level and things weren't looking so good for the Fish. Shay Hara was furious at her team but there wasn't much that she could do, other than bringing on a new sub. She pulled Marlene Corredor out and replaced her with her own daughter, Annamarie Janzen-Hara. AJ, as she's called, was released from the Maris Black Knights and from the Sporting Women academies because of off the pitch issues, but signed only a month ago for FC Maris. This match, of course, was her debut, and despite playing every position, she was subbed in at right forward.

She'd make an instant impact, scoring in the seventy first minute after beating the fullback around the edge and cutting inside. It looked like the game was safely in the hands on the Fish, at least until Cora Blazen went at Callie Flores again and forced the latter to concede a penalty kick. She'd score the kick, to tie the match at 3-3 in the 80th minute. And then, five minutes later, Blazen would take over the match again and would run to the wing before flicking the ball inside on a low cross to Nya Murray, who would knock the ball just past the keeper to give Sporting the lead with five minutes left. AJ would get one more shot on goal, but Dana Hutchins would knock it over the crossbar to end the match and hand the Marisians their first loss.

WEEK SIX

Maris wouldn't stay down for long. They had a favorable matchup, Air Force at home, and despite being frustrated early by a twenty fifth minute goal by Brigid Hale, they would lean on their hungry young players to return to their dominant form. Eighteen year old Nepharim striker Livia Hessenthaler was a highly touted prospect that signed for one million drachmas with FC Maris Ladies, and she made her team debut and scored in six minutes after Janzen-Hara won the ball in the midfield and booted it downfield for her to chase. In the second half, they'd get a second goal after Sofia Cruze drew the defense towards her and then sent the ball inside for AJ to shoot from close range. They're still in first place after the 2-1 win, and they still only have one loss and have been called the best FCML team in three years, dating back to the team that last won the title.

Meanwhile, Janford has silently been winning and reflecting the upturn in form for their men's squad. The Roses have been mostly led by Tori Escelara, the top class winger who has been carrying the team on her back for much of the season, but the signing of Adelaide Swain has helped to ease the pressure on their captain, who started with seven goals through six matches. She made her debut in week five against Bankers United, and the Roses continued their tour of the smaller island in week six when they headed to face their archrivals, Skybrough. It certainly was an edgy match, as always. There weren't as many goals as in the Derby of Redvale, but there was more physical play and pushing and shoving. Lisa Campoy's corner kick set up Amanda Gallardo for the first goal, in the 69th minute, but Janford would tie the match and get the upset draw on the road when Tori Escelara connected with Swain's cross to score from the top of the box. Supposedly, the star winger is under transfer bid by Castle United Women for her efforts through the opening part of the season.

WEEK SEVEN

Skybrough hadn't yet dropped points in back to back weeks, but playing at Sporting is a tough task even for them. With that being said, their defense is still elite, and the Foresters couldn't break it down until the very end of the match when Cora Blazen won yet another penalty with her aggressive style of running. She ran straight into Maria Santoro, forcing the latter to try a bad sliding tackle to keep her from getting an open run on goal. Blazen would bury her stoppage time penalty kick for her tenth goal of the year, to give her team the 1-0 lead and the eventual win.

The worst team in the RW League this season is Bankers United, but even they managed a win when they upset Air Force on the road. Playing at Air Force is always tricky, and Brigid Hale has been in great form, but Hale's brace wasn't enough to stop eighteen year old United starlet Anna Beom from scoring two goals in the midfield to eventually set up the 92nd minute winning free kick. The other relegation candidate, Glenham, wouldn't be so lucky. Theodora Bojovic transferred from FK National Women to the Janford Roses in week four, for the price of one million drachmas, and she made her debut in week seven and scored one of the two goals and assisted the other, scored by Adelaide Swain from close to the net.

WEEK EIGHT

FCM and Janford are two clubs that don't like each other, stemming from the civic dislike that their cities share, and they played a week eight match that reflected that. The match was held at Janford Sporting Center, and drew a large crowd, which caused FCM's defense to fold early on to allow Swain to whip in a cross that would be finished on the opposite wing by Tori Escelara. However, the momentum shifted around twenty minutes into the match when Carice Bueno collided with Callie Flores and was taken off of the pitch with an apparent knee injury. The Fish would strike back one minute later after Sofia Cruze shifted gears and ran through the entire Janford defense to score, turning back the clock to last season when she was in form. The match grew more dramatic when Annamarie Janzen-Hara was sent off for getting tangled with Janford midfielder Brianna Ellis, and kicking her in the stomach while she was still on the ground in retaliation for what she believed was a foul inside the box.

The attack on Ellis sparked a brawl between the two teams, and also resulted in yellow cards for Marlene Corredor and Theodora Bojovic, who were involved in the fighting. When the match started up again, there was less attacking movement from both teams and they waited till the second half to bring their forwards higher up again. It would be late in the match that the winning goal was scored; Kylie Calderon chipped the ball over the top, and Lorna Wilson would receive it in the box and spin around to finish the chance as the defense was drawn towards Sofia Cruze on the wing.

WEEK NINE

Cora Blazen and Nya Murray have been carrying a Sporting squad that can turn mediocre very quickly, and they continued that trend when Sporting welcomed Glenham to town and only squeezed out a 1-0 win over a terrible opponent. The goal, of course, came from the rising star, Murray, and it was in the second half. Wilson Tahiri stated that he wasn't concerned about his team so far: "You only need one more goal than the other team to win. We managed to get that goal. It doesn't matter if our win is ugly or good looking, because we still only get three points from it."

That Sporting squad has sneakily reached second, with Skybrough falling to third after Janford won and they lost 2-0 to Rovers Women in a shock loss. Skybrough has an elite level defense, but you can't win on defense alone, and their attack can be lacking at key times. That's what can cost them the title, and that's why they're also rumored to be in the market to buy Brigid Hale for twelve million drachmas. Lisa Campoy spoke on their loss in the press conference afterwards: "We aren't winning anything like this. Our attack has to show up every week if we want to catch Maris... It's just that simple."

WEEK TEN

FC Maris and Skybrough have a friendly relationship, and Skybrough ended up helping them keep their top place when they had to go to Harbor Gate and they rolled over for a 4-0 loss. There were two goals in each half as the overwhelming speed and dexterity of the Marisian attackers overwhelmed they. The opening goal came from Kylie Calderon from the free kick spot, but the second came when Annamarie Janzen-Hara leaped over the back of Justine Canales de Midvale and headed down the cross from Lorna Wilson. The youngster has been absolutely electric despite her missing week nine with suspension, and she notably celebrated her goal by walking over to the Skybrough bench and making an apologetic gesture. In the second half, Livia Hessenthaler came on for Nat Casarine, and the eighteen year old Nepharim prospect continued the trend of youngsters scoring when she ran down Sofia Cruze's volley and knocked the ball into the back of the net while it was still in the air.

Shay Hara spoke about the win and about their current position in the table: "The season may be half over, but we haven't won just yet. There's still some scenarios where Sporting could overtake us in the next few weeks and we're just going to keep playing our game and we won't be worrying about position... That's the perks of being in first place for the entire season. I've been more critical than anyone, but I have a feeling that this team could be one of the legendary ones."

JADE CUP ROUND OF 32

The round of thirty two in the Jade Cup provided no surprises except for the Maris Black Knights knocking out defending champions Markham Armor Women on a late goal in a 1-0 victory. FC Maris Ladies were drawn against Metro Maris FC and won 5-0 behind a Sofia Cruze hat trick, Sporting Women received Southern Coast FC and took them down 2-1 after Cora Blazen bagged a pair of second half goals to increase her total for the season to fourteen, Janford moved on past Harbor FC with an Adelaide Swain goal in the first half and a Theodora Bojovic game winner in the second, and Lisa Campoy's header led Skybrough Ladies past regional rivals Deportivo Janford, 1-0.

College Football: Offseason hits Super Twelve, big changes happen already

It hasn't been too long since the season ended for the last two Redvali teams that were still playing, and now the offseason has begun in earnest. Conference realignment was on the forefront of what everyone was thinking about going into this offseason, but it turns out that what actually would become the most interesting thing is relocation, believe it or not. Here's the biggest stories, including news from the Castle university system and from the staff of Mount Maris, who found their new head coach after not renewing Arend Starke's one year contract.

VRU to join Castle system, will field football team next season

Before this month, the Castle University system was made up of Castle University at Fjordham(known as CU), CU Midland, CU Western Shore, and the CU Institute of Technology(which is in Glenham). However, a deal was recently brokered to expand the university reach further into Midvale by introducing a new school to the system, one that previously existed as a very profitable and popular for-profit online school, Valle Rojas University. VRU is the pet project of Jakub Skolburg, the thirty one year old self made owner of Bay Athletics and a wide range of other companies ranging from technology to real estate. The school has been owned by him for the past seven years, in full, and enrollment has soared during that time span. While the school is mainly online, a physical campus is being constructed near the city of Red Valley, and 4,000 students already live on the new campus.

Skolburg, who is from the Southern Coast and owns much real estate in the region, is a known booster in Castle University sports, and has said that he's made the decision to join the CU system with his school so that he can increase the prestige of his adopted city. Now, you're probably wondering what this has to do with sports. Well, as part of the deal to bring VRU into the system, the board of CU Fjordham has agreed that some of the athletics programs will represent CU Valle Rojas next season, with football being the only confirmed program to make the switch so far. Technically, the sports teams represent the whole system and not just the Fjordham campus(a few athletes have gotten specialized degrees from the other campuses while playing and living in Fjordham), but this would be a huge change because it would send the team an hour and a half away and the players would have to live in and play at the new campus in a new stadium.

The new stadium, Bay Athletics Park, is set to open in time for next season and will cost an estimated three hundred million drachmas and will seat 78,000 people, a good increase from Worker's Stadium in Fjordham. Despite everything already being agreed upon and the new stadium already under construction, there has been much controversy including protests from CU Fjordham students and from students of Red Valley State University, who feel that their market is being encroached upon by the newcomers. With the situation developing more and more each day, the Castle athletics department has said nothing other than the fact that the football team will be playing on the Red Valley campus next season. These changes will also reportedly bring about a change in branding, with updated logos and red uniforms to match the theme of the new campus. Castle's players have not yet issued any statements, with the exception of kicker Luis Arana, who called the changes "bullshit".

Mount Maris doesn't extend Arend Starke, hires Francis Allan

It turns out that Mount Maris didn't controversially fire Arend Starke after winning the Mineral Conference. What really happened was that he asked for a four year extension and a raise, and wouldn't budge on it. Under normal circumstances, that would seem reasonable, but with Francis Allan reportedly looking to get away from Castle because of pending investigations by the Redvali College Athletics Association(RCAA) because of the actions of recruiting coordinator Mitch Contas, and because of the move to Red Valley, it was a no brainer for the Friars to go after the most promising coach in the country. Allan revived Castle's program and turned them into a powerhouse, and the Friars have signed him to a five year deal that's worth fifty million drachmas in an attempt to break their national title drought.

Allan left to the sight of rioting Castle students, and when he arrived in Maris, he held a first press conference the next day and officially announced that he was taking the head coaching job. He also said this: "I think what I bring to this school is the desire to win by any means necessary. I don't care about perception, don't care about the past, or any of that. My job is to win as many games as possible and that's exactly what I plan to do. I'm here to return Mount Maris football to the level of ruthlessness it had under Diogo Reyes and that it had in the last era of success before he showed up... I've grown up with this program, I know what football here is like at its best, and I can't wait to get us back to that golden standard."

RVSU under investigation, stalls Super Twelve expansion talks

Many have speculated that the Super Twelve wishes to expand to thirteen teams to welcome Red Valley State University from the Middle Eight Conference. Red Valley is the most successful non Super Twelve school in the national championship era and is also the only one from outside the conference to capture a national title, and their pedigree and the fact that they're coming off of a conference title season has led them to increasingly pursue joining the Super Twelve for the larger television contracts and the higher level of competition.

But all isn't going as planned. Red Valley State has been coached by Mateo Duta for the past ten years, but now their star head coach is being investigated after an anonymous former player reported the school to the RCAA for illegally giving payment to players. According to the former player, RVSU has recruited so well during Duta's tenure because of the illegal benefits that recruits received. The benefits reportedly range from cash to cars to even girls, and supposedly stretch back even past the national title season under Duta.

RVSU AD Roy Koenig has announced that the school is stalling their Super Twelve talks until they finish their internal investigation into the matter, which is happening at the same time as the RCAA investigation. Mateo Duta himself has denied wrongdoing and his agent has issued a statement saying that they are in the process of hiring a lawyer to make a defense against the allegations. If true, the coming sanctions and the new local competition would set the school back significantly. RVSU currently has the 7th ranked recruiting class in the country, headlined by number three quarterback prospect Kallie Boston, who filed for release from her commitment to the Redvali Army to play football in college after attending Markham Academy of the Army in high school. No recruits have decommitted right now, according to the school.

Women's college basketball is a very niche sport in Redvale, considering the fact that most of the country already prefers watching gridiron and association football or hockey to basketball in the first place, but the Super Twelve still maintains the top college conference despite the lack of a women's college tournament like the one that exists for men's college basketball in Redvale. This time around, the team to finish number one and capture the regular season championship for the conference and the league as a whole(the press awards the regular season title) was the Castle Valle Rojas Hornets, who won the title in their first year representing Red Valley behind the performances of their 7'2 center Ash Volland, who led them to a sweep of their rivals Maris Tech.

While the gender laws that apply to football have been revoked for basketball, allowing women to play in the RBL, there's very few prospects in college that are good enough. Most who continue their athletic careers will go to the RWBL, and the top prospects after the season are Lillian 'Lilly' Brigham from Mount Maris, who is a lockdown defender with an incredible three point shot, and Rin Robinson, a do it all power forward who has won every matchup in the post against other power forwards this season.

Of course, Ash Volland is in a class of her own and is the one prospect expected to play with men. At seven feet two inches tall, she dominated every other center in the Super Twelve and her unreal footwork and great jump shot has made her the biggest matchup nightmare in college basketball, men's or women's. Volland averaged twenty eight points per game along with sixteen rebounds per game and four assists. If she works on her passing, she could be a top three pick in the RBL draft.

Avgaria Tech also put together a 2nd place season behind a quick paced offense based on using three forwards and many ball screens and trickery, and Julia Principe had a breakout season and averaged 25/11/10 a game. While playing at Castle Valle Rojas, she dropped 44 points despite her team still losing narrowly at the end of the game, 89-87. They were likely the most fun team to watch this season, and Principe drew the attention of scouts by playing almost every minute of the season and putting everything on the line every game for her team. But while Avgaria Tech was the most fun to watch, Castle's defense was absolutely suffocating, and their size kept anyone else from matching up well with them. It was their first season representing the Red Valley part of the university system, and they marked it by dominating to capture their 6th conference title and likely a number one overall seed in the tournament.

The Redvali Youth Championship is the top competition in the country for players that are under eighteen years old. The teams of the competition are a combination of youth exclusive clubs and B sides from the R-League, and while the league is officially mixed gendered, the very vast majority of players are male. Most young female players play in the RWYC instead. Traditionally, the independent clubs perform as the top sides, and this season was no exception. The Midland Bluesox took home their 3rd league title after coming back to take over first place from FC Maris B, and had the largest number of top prospects statistically. Here's what the scoring and assists table looked like, along with the awards shortlist for the end of the season:
TOP SCORERS
1: Yoshiro Sozuka - 18 - CF - Glenham Aggies - 28 goals
2: Park Sang Chul - 18 - CF - Midland Bluesox - 24 goals
3: Adama Bettencourt - 18 - LW - FC Maris B - 20 goals
t4: Cris de la Fuente - 16 - CAM - Iron Hill Havoc - 19 goals
t4: Sebastian Berrios - 17 - RW - Sporting B - 19 goals

POTY
1: Park Sang Chul - 18 - CF - Midland Bluesox
2: Yoshiro Sozuka - 18 - CF - Glenham Aggies
3: Mark Fajardo - 17 - GK - Black Knights Primavera
4: Wolf Dreschler - 18 - FB - Outer Avgaria Caps
5: Lindsey Calderon - 18 - CM - Midland Bluesox

DPOTY:
1: Nicolai Carrera de Maris - 18 - CB - Black Knights Primavera
2: Wolf Dreschler - 18 - FB - Outer Avgaria Caps
3: Mark Fajardo - GK - Black Knights Primavera

RW League: Maris dominant, Sporting in red hot form

JADE CUP ROUND OF SIXTEEN

The round of sixteen of the Jade Cup provided a bit more action than the last round, which went exactly as everyone expected it to with a small exception. This time, the giant killers started to show up. Rovers Women found themselves matched up with a regional opponent, the Maris Black Knights, and the team famous for their academy proved that they can do some stuff on the senior level too. Rovers Women, like the male team, has been playing through their midfield this season, and the combination of Amedea York, Clementia Barron, and Katenka Sokolov, with York being a 21 year old promising center midfielder and Barron and Sokolov being twenty five year old academy products who can play the middle of the pitch or play high up as attackers. But the combination of the three big name mids wouldn't be enough to get Rovers a goal, and the Knights struck them in the 80th minute with a goal of their own to knock the East Maris club out of the Jade Cup. Elsewhere, the Janford Roses moved on with a 3-0 win over Ravenfeld, with a hat trick from Tori Escelara, and FC Maris Ladies rolled over Avgaria Northend 4-0 with a brace from Sofia Cruze and goals from Marlene Corredor and Callie Flores.

Round of Eight Fixtures
FC Maris Ladies @ Skybrough Ladies
Air Force Women @ Maris Black Knights
Janford Roses @ Elysia Blues
Sporting Women @ Castle United Ladies

WEEK ELEVEN

The awful and ironically poor Bankers United team is always good for giving someone an easy win to get back into form, and that was exactly what happened when Skybrough visited them and went home with a 2-0 lead after jumping ahead in the first half because of Lisa Campoy's brace. Despite playing at DM most of the time, Campoy has been something special this season. She's been all over the pitch and has frequently switched positions with other midfielders to confuse the defense, and her finishing is second to none despite her position. Meanwhile, the combination of Cruze and Hessenthaler up front has worked better than the combination of Cruze and Casarine for FC Maris Ladies. The 18 year old Nepharim striker was baptized by fire this season when she was thrown straight into a starting role due to Hiroyo Nunez departing for Handon United, but she's taken it in a stride and her strength up front has drawn defenders towards her and opened up space for Cruze and Corredor to operate on the wings. That was exactly what happened against Elysia, who FCML tore apart with a 3-0 win in week eleven. Hessenthaler had two assists, while Sofia Cruze had a brace and Lorna Wilson also picked up a goal. Qasden youth international Klara Burnham also made her debut with Maris in the second half, playing in a libero role along the back line.

WEEK TWELVE

Other than Maris, the one team that can't be stopped is their archenemy, Sporting Avgaria. The Foresters have been rejuvenated by their manager Wilson Tahiri and are the hottest team in the league right now. The oddsmakers picked FC Castle Women against them at home, figuring that Castle was more desperate and that they would end their bad form by putting on a strong performance against Sporting, but that prediction was completely wrong. Sporting destroyed them 4-0, with three second half goals. Maris is still first and Sporting is still second, for the first time in what feels like forever. For once, the two dynasties of the league are in control at the same time, and the next derby could be the defining match of the season.

R League: Fish amazing, Sporting collapsing, Janford fighting for the top

WEEKS TEN TO FIFTEEN
In the five week stretch between weeks ten and fifteen, FC Maris went five for five with wins to make their winning streak the longest of the season. This streak started on the road at Air Force where the Fish won 3-0 after Jose Gallo de Montana added another brace and Cletto Bianchini scored on a longshot, and continued on the road in Markham where the Fish had a rough start at the Armory before coming back late to take the home side down 2-1. Their path then led back home to a matchup against Elysia at Flame Park, and they rolled the struggling Blues 5-0 with three second half goals. The streak concluded at home vs Skybrough, and this time, they only pulled out a 1-0 win behind Giotto Mariano's late header.

During the same time frame, Sporting Avgaria has been inconsistent at best. They started their own road trip by going to Markham Armor, and went back with a 1-0 loss despite Armor's struggles this season. Eli Cameron sealed the win for Armor, and Sporting's Andreas Kohler and Alan Alexander both missed what should have been sitters in the second match to tie things up. They then continued their three game road trip by going to Glenham, and this time, the Gs had something special in store for them. Glenham put on their best performance of the season, shocking Milosevic's side 3-1 after Cosumarite midfielder Gris Mason asssisted 40 year old striker Aki Nunez twice. Joaoinho scored to get Sporting back in the match, but it would prove to be too little too late, and they would concede a third goal to 37 year old attacking midfielder Ruben Ali in stoppage time to seal the deal. But despite the form slump, when they went home to face Janford two matches later, the good Sporting came out and not the bad one. Alan Alexander scored ten minutes in to give the Foresters the lead over the Songbirds, and then Galeran's header on a corner kick doubled their lead in the twenty second minute. They went into the half up 2-0 and came out and grabbed the last goal of the match not much later, when Joaoinho attacked Mateo Aquila one on one and made enough room for a shot.

Despite the loss to Sporting, Janford's form has been hot recently. In week twelve, they took on FC Castle and came out with a surprising 5-0 win over what's considered to be one of the top defenses in the entire league. Janenga Mbaso's addition to the front line has helped the striking a lot, as well as the addition of Bryce Burnett in the central midfield and Liam Barrow's playing in two positions, a trend that started this season. Mbaso has had four goals in the last five matches, with Burnett having a few assists in that timespan too. The emergence of Deanthony Woods, the young protege of fellow winger Tori Escelara, has increased the form of the Songbirds too. Woods came into the squad during the UICA Globe Cup, and hasn't lost his spot since despite his label as a young player. With the exception of the Sporting loss, Janford has won all of their matches from weeks ten to fifteen.

Meanwhile, at the bottom of the table, it's looking like Elysia is going to get relegated after unexpectedly strong performances from the Midvale teams from Markham and Glenham as well as a strong post promotion performance from Air Force FC. Elysia managed no wins and no goals in the five game stretch. Their best result? A 0-0 draw with FC Castle, another side that had scoring problems. Elysia has a good midfield but not much help for them up top, and they've paid the price on it. The rumor mill says the entire staff could be getting sacked soon if they can't get the Blues out of last place.

OOC: I'm going to try to wrap up my domestic leagues for the season in the next few weeks with the male league taking priority. But, I also always have a developmental league instead of RPing a second tier, so right now, I'm going to introduce the island of Endelos and the clubs there. Expect to see my young players on loan here, and if I buy your youth players I might ask to loan them to this league. I'm also going to be using a mix of scorinating and not scorinating for this league. Expect to see the player database updated soon with these clubs and the players assigned to play for them.

Football: EndeLiga 1 Clubs

The Free Land of Endelos is a territory of the Redvale that is located on the island of the same name that's located to the south of the main island. The smaller island is only home to eight million people, the vast majority of whom live in a small handful of cities, and while the nation has its own laws and policies as well as its own leader and political parties, it relies on the Redvale to fund its military and to come to its protection in the event of a war. Because of this, the Redvali leaders have a large amount of power. The country is also known for being home to Redvali citizens that were punished for the crime of heresy by being spared from death and instead deported. Due to that, Endelos is a pretty religiously diverse place. It's also more liberal than the main island, while being less libertarian than Janford. The country is pretty ethnically uniform and almost everyone speaks the Endelosi language, with English and Spanish being secondary languages.

The football league on the island has been around for a good amount of time, though it's always remained small due to the small size of the island, and the quality hasn't been up to the standard of the R-League. Some Redvali players have passed through the EndeLiga on loan or have played here after playing youth football to serve as a gap between the youth/amateur levels of the game and the professional levels. There's also the Women's EndeLiga(or WEL), which doesn't draw as many crowds but, like the RW League, has a strong niche support and some good players. For native Endelosi, the EndeLiga is often easier to play in than the Redvale, because of the drastically different laws in the two islands. Here's the preview of the teams in the league right now.

Karakosa BK
Nickname: The Angels, KBK
Colors: Black, white, and green
City: Karakosa
Stadium: Independence Arena(61,000)
Fan Groups: Valkyries(mixed), Green Boys(mixed), Fronten Nord(right wing)
Sponsor: Bank of Endelos
Home Kit: Green shirt with a horizontal black stripe, green shorts and black socks and boots
Away Kit: White shirt with a green horizontal stripe, and green shorts
Manager: Hakun Castberg(38)
Image

One of the two giants of Endelosi football, Karakosa BK have always been around the top with the exception of a few bad seasons. They're the most supported club and they have fans all over the country because of their typically exciting play style and their tendency to value looking good over pragmatism. They play in the capital city of Karakosa, which is a fairly working class area despite being the capital of the territory. The working class atmosphere around the city has helped the football scene immensely, as Independence Arena is always packed to the rafters on KBK gamedays. The club has done a good job of branding themselves as the Endelosi football club, using the national colors in their badge and kit and making efforts to support the fan groups that have popped up in every city and village. Fans of Karakosa don't necessarily expect wins every time, but they do expect the team to put on a show and go at it with a lot of effort.

The club has recently went through an effort to lower the age of their squad and look to the future, and while this cost them at first when they had to watch their rivals win back to back titles, they showed that their rebuild was a success when they rolled through the league in dominant fashion to capture the title two seasons ago. Hakun Castberg, the manager that was brought in to carry out the rebuild after the club's last manager retired, has done well enough with it to win himself a five year contract extension after the most recent title winning season. For the past five years, the club has been owned by the Bank of Endelos and the conglomerate behind it, giving it a large influx of cash to assist with rebuilding.

Slado BK
Nickname: The Sailors, the Walkers
Colors: Purple and pink
City: Slado
Stadium: Slado Brewing Company Park(44,000)
Fan Groups: Nightwalkers(extreme left), De Pirater(left wing), Kollektiv Fans(extreme left)
Sponsor: Endelos Health Service
Home Kit: Pink wrapped jersey with white shorts and pink socks
Away Kit: White jersey with white shorts, socks, and boots
Manager: Dag Isaksen(46)
Image

Oh, Slado. The city that's either loved or hated but never forgotten. It's known for being a lower class port city, and is the largest on the western coast of the country. It's also known for being a hive of debauchery, with its wild raves and always in supply drugs and many, many prostitutes. Slado BK's secondary nickname, the Walkers, is actually derived from one of the famous industries of the city. But anyway, the club was founded by that industry, though many fans don't realize this and think that SBK was founded by port workers. While the club has called the port district home since its founding, its roots lay in the prostitution industry instead of the shipping business. However it was founded, the club quickly became the one to challenge Karakosa, being able to do so because of the large size of the city and the extra resources available to a club in a city the size of Slado, which is home to two million people.

They traditionally are big spenders, but not in the classical sense. Slado often spends a lot of money bringing in younger players before they reach their primes, and while they have the second highest payroll in the league, you won't see them buying superstar caliber players. There's also a strong sense of regional pride around the club, and so they end up signing many young players from Slado itself and developing them in their academy. The fans are demanding, both on and off the pitch. They don't just want wins, but they want players and staff members that support their left wing causes. Because of the amount of people that have been deported to western Endelos for dissent from the Redvale, the city has developed an extremely leftist/anarchist feeling in reaction to the authoritarian and (in the eyes of the Sladans) intolerant Redvali government. Their matches are some of the wildest in the country. When they win, there's partying throughout the city. When they lose, there's riots.

Karakosa IF
Nickname: The Dwarves
Colors: Black and gold
City: Karakosa
Stadium: Slagmark Park(32,000)
Fan Groups: Renegades(right wing), Nordsiden Fans(mixed)
Sponsor: Endelosi Fuel
Home Kit: Black shirt with gold highlights, black shorts
Away Kit: Gold shirt with black highlights and black shorts
Manager: Armo Jarvela(32)
Image

KIF is the smaller of the two clubs in Karakosa, but that doesn't mean they aren't successful. They're the third most successful club in Endelosi football behind the two archenemies, KBK and SBK. They don't actually play in the city proper like KBK does, but they play instead in Northwest Karakosa, where the port is and where the suburban areas are. Because of this, they have a large number of supporters even if they are the smaller of the two clubs. While they have less success than their rivals, the expectations are the same. To compete for the title every year. But unlike their neighbors to the southwest, they don't care about how they look doing it. Karakosa IF plays gritty, physical football and often plays defensively with the goal of not losing, instead of playing to win. Their players are happy to sit back and wait for the opposition to make a mistake instead of going at them, which is the main difference between them and their crosstown rivals.

The club went through financial troubles in the past decade, and is still going through them despite some investment from Endelosi Fuel keeping them in the EndeLiga after they were nearly relegated despite finishing third, because they were going to be in too much debt that they couldn't pay off. But even with their financial trouble, they have the number one ranked academy in Endelos and the number six ranked academy in Endelos and Redvale, meaning that they should be able to perform well through using players that they've signed to team friendly contracts and developed through the youth system. That youth philosophy also extends to the manager, Armo Jarvela, who is believed to be a tactical genius despite being young even by EndeLiga standards.

Fjell BK
Nickname: The Miners, the Clovers
Colors: Maroon
City: Rone
Stadium: Bay Athletics Stadium(18,000)
Fan Groups: Red Kollektiv(working class/right wing)
Sponsor: Bay Athletics
Home Kit: Maroon with maroon shorts, socks, and boots
Away Kit: White with maroon horizontal stripe, and black shorts
Manager: Francis Schiavone(29, Redvali)
Image

Fjell BK is from the industrial town of Rone, nestled in the mountains in the middle of the island and the heart of the mining and steelmaking industries as well as a sizable logging industry. Named for the mountains, the team has been much like the industries it represents; it struggles sometimes, but always bounces back. The town of Rone is very much behind supporting this club, and they've gained a reputation as giant slayers for their cup wins against much larger clubs at home. For most of their history, though, they've operated at a large financial disadvantage. This changed when Bay Athletics bought out the majority of the club, turning them into something of a farm team for Castle United that sees some good loan players pass through.

On the pitch, Fjell plays the way the city acts off of it. They focus on the power of the team, because they've never had players who are good enough to win games by themselves. They typically play narrow formations to try to control the middle of the pitch and focus on defending the most vulnerable spot on the pitch, the box, and then try to use long balls to force the opposing defenders into making mistakes and allowing them to get some chances on goal. This strategy has worked with varying success, and while fans of other clubs find it annoying, they've embraced it and Redvali manager Francis Schiavone has continued to use the strategy for the first two years of his tenure. With more investment from Bay Athletics, the club is expected to make the jump soon to challenge the big three.

Heimsjo IK
Nickname: The Farmers
Colors: Red, white, and blue
City: Heimsjo
Stadium: Gardpark(15,000)
Fan Groups: Krigere(left wing)
Sponsor: AirEndelos
Home Kit: Blue wrapped shirt with white shorts and socks
Away Kit: White wrapped shirt with blue shorts and socks
Manager: Egil Haugen(50)
Image

From the farmlands to the west of Rone lies the town of Heimsjo, a hub for the farmers in the countryside that surrounds it. It seems strange for a place like this to have a football club. You'd think that such a rural area would have attendance problems, after all. But the support has been enough to keep the club afloat despite the hilariously bad financial mismatch between HIK and the rest of the country. That mismatch comes from market size, because you can barely call Heimsjo a market at all. Still, they've taken down big teams a few times and they usually play pretty football even in defeat. This is their third stint in the EndeLiga, after being promoted again in 505 and managing to stay up. But now, the real challenge will be keeping all of their talent from being poached by bigger clubs and bigger cities who want to break up the squad they stayed up with.

FC of Hovland
Nickname: The Firebirds, the Pirates
Colors: Black and white
City: Hovland
Stadium: The Forge(9,000)
Fan Groups: Rogues(far left)
Sponsor: None
Home Kit: Black wrapped shirt with black shorts and socks
Away Kit: Grey wrapped shirt with white shorts
Manager: Kjell Hall(37)
Image

It started as a project by Slado fans who felt bad for another western left wing club that was about to go under. It turned into something much more. Hovland has long been home to football clubs, but the last football club in the city folded in 504 due to economic problems and overwhelming debts. Everything was liquidated, the squad split up and went their separate ways, and the identity and history of Hovland BK was sold to the debtors. After that, a group of Slado fans and Hovland BK fans gathered together to form their own anarchist football club, and they signed young amateur players from around the two cities to make up the squad. Somehow, last season, they managed promotion into the EndeLiga 1 after conquering the 2. Liga. It was thought to be impossible, even by their own hardcore support, but as the season continued, it looked more and more like this team of young amateurs would make some noise at the top of the table and knock off the clubs from larger cities. Now, the challenge is to not get completely destroyed and immediately sent into the relegation playoff by the much stronger competition of the fully professional top league.

Football: Janford under pressure to find wins, Rovers stock rising

WEEKS FIFTEEN THROUGH TWENTY
The next five weeks of the season saw some turmoil in the lower half of the table, while Maris kept first place on lock with some impressive wins. Maris started off the stretch by facing Janford City for the second time out of three, facing them at Flame Arena this time after picking up the road win against them at the Janford Sporting Complex. The stadium was sold out, and for good reason. The game between them was a classic, with Deanthony Woods and Liam Barrow contributing two goals for Janford to go up 2-1 at the half. Giotto Mariano wouldn't let the Fish slide out of the match, however, and equalized from range just after the start of the second half. Then, Hirai Jeong lobbed the ball over the defense to Jose Gallo de Montana, who put yet another shot in the back of the net in the eightieth minute to give the Fish the late lead and the win. Beito Noriega is quickly becoming a cult hero in Maris for his tendency to have his team go all out for the win in big matches, and he has them playing their best football since their last title winning season, which seems forever ago by now.

After winning out in the next four matches, Maris would end the four match span with a clash against Sporting at Capital Stadium. In the biggest match, the Derby of Redvale, they would finally falter. Fans have been calling for Collin Milosevic's head, but the Sporting manager will survive the end of the season from the looks of it after they took the game to their rivals and came out of their home stadium with a 3-1 win. Young Maris keeper Gwalter Pahlke, 20 year old Qasden international, had a rough time between the sticks and conceded twice inside the first thirty minutes as Galeran knocked a header into the back of the net on a corner kick and Andreas Kohler played a wonderful cross inside to Alan Alexander, who knocked it in from close range in the twenty eight minute. Noriega committed more to the attack in response, and Mo Araki would find himself unmarked on the wing and escape the defense to pull one back in the fiftieth minute, but Sporting would seal the win with Joaoinho's extra time longshot.

During the same time period, Janford has had two losses and only one win. Elias Basajuan picked up a knee injury in the Maris match, and they just haven't been the same ever since then. Most notably, they lost 4-1 to Rovers at home, allowing Sasha Brewer to get a brace and to assist Dagr Lewis and Arkady Rozier in their goals. They also managed to lose to struggling Elysia United 1-0 behind Jamie Fossen's goal, and FC Castle by the score of 2-0 despite Castle having an awful attack. The loss of Basajuan has affected the whole attack, not just the front line.

However, the Rovers win was more of a sign of Rovers being on the rise rather than Janford falling. Karen Martinez de Bay is unproven, but the young statistician has them playing red hot and playing through their best player, Sasha Brewer, and the other members of their core, Dagr Lewis and Christian Naranja. The Rovers midfield is great at pressing and clamping down on the distribution of better teams, and that culminated in their destruction of Janford. It should also make things interesting come cup time. In the five game stretch, Rovers has beaten Janford 4-1, lost to Air Force 1-0, beaten Skybrough 2-1, and beaten Glenham Athletic 4-2. During that time, six of their goals have been scored by none other than Sasha Brewer, who has turned into a legitimate superstar because of his pinpoint passing, mobility, and excellent shot. Martinez de Bay will become one of the hottest names on the managerial market soon, and Rovers will be one of the most dangerous teams in the cup tournament.

SUN TROPHY: ROUND OF 64
After the round of sixty four, all the usual contenders are around in the Sun Trophy. FC Maris had a notable 5-0 win over Farmers FC, of West Shore, and Sporting Avgaria won by a scoreline of 6-0 over Glenham Eastside. Janford also crushed Sporting Metro Maris 4-0 to end their skid, and second division Castle United set up an inter city derby with first division FC Castle with a 2-1 win over Ravenfeld CF. The round of 32 is set to take place in three weeks, near the stretch of matches towards the end of the season.

Castle United was once a middling club that was never expected to get out of the second division, with FC Castle being the main club in the Southern Coast. Those days were over since the club was bought out by Jakub Skolburg and Bay Athletics, but now, the club has proved that to the entire nation by earning promotion to the R-League for the second time in their history. While some clubs would typically gain promotion through building slowly, United's rise has been quick and direct. The team built around a core of players that couldn't make it in Semarland, and then paid eleven million for Anglatian wonderkid Marco Saint Paul to anchor their midfield and play next to former academy prospect Soren Foster. The result has been nothing short of dominance, with United only drawing four and losing five matches all season and finishing with 58 points from 27 matches. Their manager, former Heimsjo IK boss Jon Sigporsson, is young and inexperienced for the manager as such a big side, only being thirty seven years old, but he's proven that he knows how to build an effective gameplan for multiple types of teams. While his Heimsjo side was mostly counter attacking, he was able to lead Castle United to the third best goals total.

Aside from Castle, the other top team was Deportivo Valle Rojas, who fell just short by blowing matches to Avgaria Northend and Metro Maris in the last ten weeks to hand CU the title. Deportivo Valle Rojas has one of the better developmental systems in the league and built in the opposite way of Castle, playing an all Redvali squad and playing a lineup of stars that were bought as younger players and developed through the academy. This method has seen mixed results, but helped Deportivo this season enough that they were the main title opponent to United.

Bankers United has their women's team in the top division but not the men's team, and after a poor second half of the season showing, it looks like their men's team isn't going to join the female team for some time. They've seemingly been trying to turn the corner and win promotion forever, but they never quite have enough about them to get past the top teams, consistently finishing in third or fourth place in Division Two. Next season, however, it looks like the promotion battle will be mainly between them and the runners up, Deportivo Valle Rojas. Harbor FC was also relegated to Division Three, mainly because the small North Maris club couldn't afford to keep their best players this offseason. Their story is a sad one, because they've represented the port area of Maris for a long time, but with Rovers on the rise, many of their fans have jumped ship to the other local club to finally see some good football.

Redvale's neighbors across the Northern Isles, Revolutionary Nordskania, have finished their summer football season with Central Turbayov winning ten out of their fourteen matches to take the crown, but because of the instability and the war occurring in Nordskania, the Revolutionary Football League has been suspended by the Nordskanian FA. The federation cited that the north of the country may soon become a battleground just like the southern part, and the fact that travel has become hard because of the battle in the skies over the nation as well as the Northern Syndicate limiting transportation in some areas because of the war, such as Masloka. Foreign players currently in the RFL have been released from their contract commitments and are free to sign elsewhere, while Revolutionary national team players have also been released and will take up work nearby for next season after being advised to do so by the federation.
