[Suggestion] Remove

Postby The Forsworn Knights » Tue Sep 06, 2016 7:41 pm

The Rolling-Eyes Smiley, also known as ;roll;, and simply its depiction ( ) is in my experience never used in discussion for any reasons other than to belittle the player being spoken to or in so-called 'gotcha' comments, often in discussion posts implying that the other user has a lesser intellect. As I understand it the smiley is rarely (If ever) needed or used in productive discussion and is largely used in a condescending manner.

To clarify, the so-called 'Gotcha' comments which I speak of are comments and/or questions that an individual refuses to budge on and believes is an irrefutable truth to the point of total blindness to other ways of seeing the issue. This can be anything from a Theist asking an Athiest about the afterlife and considering it a 'Gotcha' that the Athiest will not say they know of any afterlife, to someone who likes apples considering it a 'Gotcha' that someone who likes oranges dislikes the color Orange.

Whereas a common example of the Smiley being used in a rude manner would include an individual using the eyeroll smiley at the end of a one-liner response to ones preferences or opinions.

He could but they don't keep for very long. A week, ten days if you keep them in the fridge, which is never convenient.

Remember to report posts you think have been made in bad faith. They may break the rules.

I'm reluctant to support getting rid of emotes because they can be used productively. Emotes are there to show how the poster feels. The  could be moved into the "view more smilies" list instead. I'd support that.

Unless I'm mistaken, there is no difference between the "view more smilies" list and the smilies list on the side. 34 for both.

34 is still a decent number. I'm just confused what the purpose of the "more smilies" is if there aren't any others.

Get rid of all of them seems pretty reasonable to me.

I think :), :(, :o and :p should be allowed, but the rest can burn in emoji hell.

Edit: This better not count as smiley spam..

If we do this, I think all forms of "*nod*" need to be ban worthy as it's used in largely the same way.

:D, :(, :O, :P. The other ones screw with the line height.

Also, who the hell uses 8) for sunglasses, it's clearly B).

Is this a safe space with no micro-aggression now?

Yes. Now take your micropassiveagressive insinuations offsite with your regional management at once  .

The mods have been a bit high handed with emoji recently but as long as you use them infrequently and don't use them as a long response to a post. (Face palm was quite frequently used this way as if to discredit an entire argument...it's no longer here.).
