) is in my experience never used in discussion for any reasons other than to belittle the player being spoken to or in so-called 'gotcha' comments, often in discussion posts implying that the other user has a lesser intellect. As I understand it the smiley is rarely (If ever) needed or used in productive discussion and is largely used in a condescending manner.To clarify, the so-called 'Gotcha' comments which I speak of are comments and/or questions that an individual refuses to budge on and believes is an irrefutable truth to the point of total blindness to other ways of seeing the issue. This can be anything from a Theist asking an Athiest about the afterlife and considering it a 'Gotcha' that the Athiest will not say they know of any afterlife, to someone who likes apples considering it a 'Gotcha' that someone who likes oranges dislikes the color Orange.
Whereas a common example of the Smiley being used in a rude manner would include an individual using the eyeroll smiley at the end of a one-liner response to ones preferences or opinions.
