Godmarked [Deity|Fantasy|OOC|Open]

OP: Bentus
IC | Map

Once there was only darkness. Nothingness reigned supreme. And then there was a spark, a spark so bright and sudden that all of Creation was burst into existence. In an instant, the calm quiet of nothing was replaced by chaos. Random, excited, unguided – Creation in its purest form was a broiling storm of unimaginable energy. Unable and unwilling to remain stationary, ensnared, Creation exploded outward into the nothing that had come before, cooling and coalescing as it did so.
It was thus that the Sun and stars first came to be, swiftly followed by the world of Ziotal itself – and then life. Stumbling out from the mud, the natural consequence of haphazard Creation, the mortal races opened their eyes to see the fruits of those vibrant energies. Looking upon the boundless beauty of the world, of life and of living, the mortals felt the first emotions, and created for themselves. Creation, untamed and wild, was rocked by the shockwave of the mortals’ existence, and parts of that infinite energy began to condense and take forms of their own – the Ichor: the Godmarked.

Brought into existence by the cumulative strength of their own domains of Creation, the Ichor were immortals with powers that the mortals could only ever dream of, spirits that were the direct descendants of Creation itself. And yet, they were irrevocably bound to the mortals that were so evidently beneath them. While a domain could sustain an Ichor, mortal worship gave them true power. Fighting among themselves for dominance, the Godmarked grew greedy. In the early days of its existence, the world was rocked as the Ichor lead the mortals to war on their behalf, eager to kill their kin and solidify their own place within Creation. So great was the conflict, that even the titanic energies of Creation itself struggled under its weight, and when countless Ichor lay slain, the remaining agreed to end the mindless self-destruction.

It was thus that peace was restored to the World, and history began. However, still in the background the Ichor continued to manoeuvre. While the great direct conflicts of old were no more, the Game of the Gods continued in earnest, as it has for millennia, with the mortals as both pawn and prize.

G’day all! As you may be able to tell, this is another Pantheon/Deity RP. I love these things to death, but I dislike it when they often devolve into demonic armies or tirelessly faithful mortals being thrown against one another. The goal of Godmarked is to have an RP which sees the Gods not quite be as powerful as they’re usually made out to be, forced to interact in more underhanded and subtle ways with the world around them (think in the Elder Scrolls or the like). Mortals in this world are independent beings – don’t expect an entire nation to be unwavering in their faith (especially if you choose to lead them directly, a ruler tends to be blamed when things go south – as they inevitably do over the millennia). I hope this also means that playing as a non-Ichor or a regular mortal nation/char may become possible here – there’s a whole world to explore after all!

Rules
  • 1. Stay within your powers. If you are the God of Earth, you can't tame the oceans.
  • 2. Gods may be immortal, but they are not invincible (although they may like to think otherwise). All the same, don’t go around killing each other without permission.
  • 3. Mortals are the key to power. More followers = more power.
  • 4. You can be God of only two areas. And they can't be completely contradictory.
  • 5. Gods with similar domains are allowed. However, you must get in contact with the RPers with any over-lapping domains to get their opinions on their app. If they feel that your app overlaps too strongly, or they do not like the idea, then it is likely that you will be denied.
  • 6. While your character may be a God, they are not all powerful in this world. The Ichor hold dominion over their domains, but their power is provided by their worshippers. Rather than natural disasters and armies of demons, your tools of conquest should be influencing the mortals – for it is with them that the true power lies: the power to make the Gods themselves.
  • 7. The Gods may have their own realms, but these interact minimally with the world of the living. Similarly, any servant races should be exceptionally small in number. For instance, nowhere near enough to have an army or a civilization of their own.

The Pantheons
Pantheons are the alliances of this RP and allow for Ichor to band together to increase their power. All those in a pantheon are worshipped as secondary deities by each other’s followers and so get a bit of a boost, however in doing so they accept subservience to the Chief Deity in the Pantheon – the only one who can accept or exile deities from their Pantheon. At the start of the RP there is only a single Pantheon. Note that just because two Gods aren’t in the same Pantheon does not mean that someone can’t worship both of them, it’s just less likely. The other type of kind-of-alliance is marriage between Ichor, which I will allow.

Councilio de Regnis (The High Council of Every Realm)
  • Sovereign (Chief Deity): Kemoth
  • Eieria
  • Amiyr
  • Aesthe
  • Tethys
  • Santus
  • Felthagos
  • Celeste
  • Yaldaboah
  • Adea
  • Assophi
  • Shruiken
  • The Brother and Sister
  • Gar-Marak
  • Ulous
  • Leota
  • Adrianna/Andros
  • Qaratoth
  • Ishtarte

The Three Planes of Existence

When the universe was created from the energies of Creation, three main Planes of Existence condensed from the choatic vacuum: the Heavens above, the World of Mortals, and the Underworld. The Mortal plane is the home of the mortal species and the source of the Ichor's power. It is here where creation truly took hold, and it is the mortal realm which sustains both the heavens and the underworld, as well as their denizens. However, it is in the Heavens and the Underworld where the Ichor craft their private realms, small regions where they alone rule supreme and can craft in their image. The Goddess Kemoth in particular, holds particular sway in the Heavens, her domains granting her charge of the areas of the plane not claimed by any particular God and where the souls of those worthy - but not belonging to a particular deity - live out their afterlife.

The Underworld, in contrast, is the destination for souls which did not achieve sufficient deeds in their lives to warrant entrance into the Heavens or a particular God's realm. The Underworld is also home to the realms of some of the darker deities that eschew the Heavens. The beings that live in the Heavens and the Underworld and are not mortal souls, are the servants of the Ichor. Small in number, these spiritual beings exist to serve their patron and act as an extension of their will. Direct creations of an Ichor, these beings have limited influence on the mortal realm, but can occasionally travel there - but never in large numbers or with the full weight of their power.

Name: Gar-Marak, The Forge-Father
Species: Ichor
Domains: Earth (sp. mining, earthquakes, volcanoes, stonework), Craft (smithing, metallurgy, runecrafting)
Appearance: Gar-Marak takes many forms when appearing to mortals; a voice in a flame, a rumbling of speech as deep as the earth, the soft hiss of embers, the clang of singing steel. He often walks among them, clothed in flesh so as to speak with them as a man to other men. His true form, so the priests say, is an immense man forged all of steel and stone; his hair is strands of bunk shed bronze, his eyes gleaming orbs of emerald, his great apron wrought gold.
Bio: One of the older Ichor, the first to walk the planes of mortal men, it was Gar-Marak who delved the passages of the seas and raised high the mountains upon the Asagal, the World-Forge. Once many gods tried to usurp his titles, taking for themselves weaving, domestic crafts, soil, even smithcraft. But the Forgefather slew them all in single combat, one after another. Though he regrets the loss of life, his temper and wrath are known to burn as hot as the fires of the earth when aroused, and are not easily quenched. He delights in mortals and in gifting them with skill or ability to create new wonders, and is often considered one of the deities most entwined with civilization.
RP Sample: Link forthcoming- I'll dredge it up after my flight.

Yknow, I do actually have some time. I'm back bby.

Name: Aesthe
Species: Ichor
Domains: Love (both Lust and Platonic), Art
Appearance: Aesthe appears in a myriad of ever-changing artistic forms, with minimal concern for consistency. Aesthe often selects esoteric physical manifestations, even in comparison to other Gods, like paint washed over a river, or a flowing, empty dress created in the fashion of some major city. Portrayals of Aesthe are often varied and myriad, and generally take the form of a trinity - two persons sharing a loving bond, as comrades, lovers, or family-members, and a third figure or symbol representing Aesthe. Such a figure is generally also used to frame the image, or to give it form.

However, long-lasting images to Aesthe are often large, wooden sculptures. Beyond Love and Art, it is known that Aesthe, like her most devout followers, is one who eschews the pomp and formality of wealth and hierarchy. As a result, the most durable material many of her most devout work with tends to be the woods of their local area - stone is much too hard to transport, and more difficult to obtain, although there are many masons who do build in her image. When she does manifest as a mortal, as a result, it is often with a skin colour matching the palette of the local flora - deep red, bronzed skins, all the way down to alabaster birch. Her wealthiest followers, using rock and stone, are gently reminded of their removal from her, seeing her gentle features in hard greys, or cold marble - yet, she moves with all the grace and the humanity of a dancer, even in such form.

Such wealthy followers, while appreciated by her - especially through the practice of patronage - find themselves compelled to practice philanthropy, and humility in their community, that they can build homes not of stone, but of societies that can see them as peers, and share with them love. She does not look for domestic shrines, as silent prayer is not Aesthe's domain. Instead, she makes herself at home with nomads, transients, vagrants & the community-minded, and those who would seek to rebuild societies broken by enslavement to material wealth and rulers. She does not expect monasteries, nor asceticism, nor apology for wealth, but for her wealthiest followers to raise up those less fortunate, such that they can together become beautiful.

Her followers are those that exist as, themselves, pieces of art, held together as a faith by love for their art, their Aesthe, and each other.

And love knows no walls, no distance, and no end.

Nation/Faction name: Tar'Asphamyr
Race(s): Humans, Elves
Patron God(s): None (If someone wants it, be my guest)
Current Leader(s): The Council of Five (Gal'Tar) Raulpyne Nas'Tar, Yolandivisse Jus'Al'Tar, Tolyne Jus'Yul'Tar, Kalthyme Maess'Al'Tar, Olthene Maess'Yul'Tar
Brief History:
Geographical area and key features: Tar'Asphamyr is a city-state perched along the top of a large forest. The area is reasonably flat, and access to water is in the form of small aquifiers that must be dug out - there are no real key water features or geographic features, beyond the forest itself. However, five trees - the Asphamyr - amongst the forest stand a full body higher than any others in the region, forming, roughly, a pentagon of equal sides.
Other details: Tar'Asphamyr translates, roughly, to Council of the Living Trees - Tar meaning Council, and Asphamyr being a compound word (Asph, life, and Myr, tree or trees). Social standing indicates a person's placement on the homes in Tar'Asphamyr, with those wielding the most power also taking on the homes at the top of the highest trees. Shorter trees are used to indicate families that are of lower standing than those that occupy higher trees, with new or declining families sometimes sharing trees based on their professional allegiances. Larger trees are often entirely occupied by larger families, with the largest families being split into multiples. For instance, the former Jus'Tar family was split into multiple branches as they become more prominent - Jus'Al'Tar being the First, and Jus'Yul'Tar being the Second - as was Maess'Tar. The Nas'Tar family, on the other hand, are a recent addition to the Council, having been a small handful of individuals handpicked by the Council from their predeceding family, after it was brought into disrepute, and hence taking on a new name.

The immense, wooden bridges built between them are, in turn, organized such that the longest bridges are higher up. Ten bridges are higher than any other, clearly visible from the sky and from the tops of the Asphamyr, with each Asphamyr connected to each other, with the bridges intersecting at five points that form the boundaries of the central business district - At'Tar. The remaining five sections are each allocated to an Asphamyr, taking on the family name of their Councillor - Nas'Tar, Jus'Al'Tar, Jus'Yul'Tar, Maess'Al'Tar, and Maess'Yul'Tar. These sections are passed down through hereditary inheritance.

At'Tar is commanded by a democratically elected human councillor, the Humyun'Tar. They do not sit in the Council of Five, but are generally recognized as the most powerful human in At'Tar. Predominantly, humans in Tar'Asphamyr form an underclass, serving as labourers on the grounds of the Five Districts. However, in At'Tar, they serve as neutral mediators between the Five Families of the Asphamyr, and those humans that can purchase or network their way into At'Tar quickly become a powerful shadow chamber in the predominantly Elven city-state.

Fair mention to everyone that I'm reusing some old apps that I've been looking to shoehorn into an RP for ages. Feel free to TG me if anyone has any problems with that. Hit me up if you notice anything worth criticizing too - I may be OP, but I should still be hitting the standards.

Nation/Faction name: The Kingdom of the Shar (formerly Kai’denn)
Race(s): Orc
Patron God(s): Pending Apps
Current Leader(s): King Aurcut Axescream

Brief History:
Looking at a map of the world, it is impossible to miss the lands of the Kai’denn tribes. The shaded region is expansive and intimidating; it is easy to assume that some great power must be seated within its borders. However, in reality the vast territory of the Kai’denn is a relic – all that remains of the golden age of the Empire when the march of Kai boots sent shivers along the continent. When the Orc race was created, the Kai quickly proved themselves to be by far the most powerful among them. Whilst their brethren stagnated, the Kai embraced their love of combat and embarked upon a series of conquests, following a series of titans who led them from victory to victory. Cities would surrender at the approach of their armies and Kings would wash the feet of their Generals in respect. Wealth and plunder fuelled the great Empire and the nomadic tribes established cities of their own: palaces hammered from the spoils of their conquests.

However, the Kai grew complacent with their position, becoming distasteful of battle when surrounded by the luxuries of wealth. Many started to turn towards the worship of gods of pleasure and desire, being driven by coin and lust more than pride and steel. Thus, the Empire began its decay. Occasional defeats erupted into all out revolts in some of the outlying territories as hostile nations, eager to exploit the decadent Empire, took bites from its conquests. Eventually, the once proud Kai were reduced to sheltering form the blows from outside and were at the mercy to the armies at their gates. But, no nation could hope to contain and control such a large population of Orcs over the long term, and so the leaders of the day decided to use the Kai themselves to keep them in check.

Agents and spies were dispatched, sewing seeds of chaos and civil war between the tribes. As they were busy fighting amongst themselves, they were weak, and when foreign nations descended upon them with promises of aid and assistance, the Chiefs did not think twice at signing away their souls and people. And so, now Kai’denn is a shell of its former self – a puppet-state of puppet-states, it exists as a fractured collection of independent tribes held together through oppression and brute force by a leader whom is kept in place by the whims of foreign benefactors. To the rest of the world, the Kai are a source of stories for children; and whilst the occasional raid must be endured, the fruits of exploiting the vast market that its citizens represent means that most nations are more than content to allow the once-proud nation to wallow in the dirt.

When Drun’kai Aurcut Axescream rose to power, he did so with the full support of foreign benefactors. He was a Kai who had witnessed the grandeur and accomplishments of the lands beyond their borders and he had risen with the desire to correct what he perceived to be the backwardness of his people. Upon ascending to the throne, Axescream renamed Kai’denn to the Kingdom of the Shar and abolished the position of Drun’kai, naming himself King, imitating the rulers of other nations. He embarked upon a grand campaign in the cities to establish art and culture. Lavish spending on foreign goods and delicacies to further this end quickly won him the support of the powerful Kai elite and secured his power in the cities. However, in the countryside the army was used ruthlessly to exact taxes on the ‘primitive’ nomadic tribes to fund this extravagance, whilst those who lived there saw none of the benefits.

Geographical area and key features: Due to its size, the landscape of the Kingdom is varied and diverse. However, the majority takes the form of rolling plains, with interspersed forests between them – the perfect terrain for the nomadic Kai tribes.
Other details:
Military: Whilst every Kai can fight, some are more trained than others. There is also no standing army, as each tribe maintains its own warrior groupings. The closest thing to a proper military is the Warband of the Drun’kai. As the Drun’kai is the representative of the Kai’denn, the warriors under his direct control are the ones that can be reliably called upon to serve the nation as a whole.

Regardless, when considering the forces of all the tribes, the military of the Kai is sizeable indeed, and would pose a threat to any of the civilized nations. But, as they are more often than not fighting amongst themselves, little concern is actually felt.

The Kai are well-known for their skill at raiding, making use of their ferocious mounts for lightning fast attacks that matches well with their largely nomadic lifestyle. However, the larger forces, often those managed by the tribes in charge of large settlements of the Drun’kai himself, look more identifiable as a modern armed force with siege weapons, armoured infantry and the like. However, one thing that is absent is a navy. The Kai have always been on the backfoot at sea, even during the time of the Empire. However, today the Kai’denn navy is non-existent, with the fishing boats used by some of the tribes hardly able even to go beyond sight of the shore.

Culture: An Orc’s position in society is dictated largely by his strength and how his kinsmen view him, in essence by way of his deeds and accomplishments. Whilst all achievements are considered somewhat, those on the field of battle are prized above all due to the very warlike nature of the Orc race. As such, conflict and contest are intrinsically linked to the Kai way of life, with raids seen as a natural part of an Orc’s path to adulthood. Raids against other tribes and neighbouring nations also form a key segment of the Kai economy. With much of the population being nomadic, sometimes resources can be hard to come by, and cross-border raids are an efficient means of gathering what is needed.

The Kai, like all of their kind, are practitioners of slavery. It is said that in the hey-day of the Empire that the slave trade was a gargantuan industry that filled entire warehouses with stock from Kai conquests across the lands. However, now the number of foreign slaves has fallen drastically, although the Kai are known to purchase convicted criminals or other unwanted in shady dealings with foreigners. Whilst the enslavement of other Orcs is allowed, it largely only occurs in the case of indentured servitude to pay back some kind of debt and Kai slaves are treated with significantly more respect and kindness than others.

However, the political and social elite have increasingly come to adopt foreign customs and cultures, disregarding the traditions of the Kai. This is especially poignant in the cities, where grand balls and galas accompany galleries and lavish ceremonies as the powerful flaunt their wealth. This trend has proven to be a lucrative business for foreign nations and industries that have exploited the desire of the Kai to purchase their goods and services.

Government: For the Kai, only the strongest among them has the mandate to rule. This philosophy precipitates down from the highest level onwards, whether it be in the Drun’kai – or the ruler of the Kai – or the chiefs of individual bands, trial by combat is commonplace. However, in recent times this has often been replaced by the contest of armies, with those in authority far less willing to risk their position and life.

Whilst the Kai are divided into clans and tribes, with some having settled in a few of the permanent settlements that dot the land, all ultimately swear allegiance to the Drun’kai who reigns supreme. However, since the collapse of the Empire, the Drun’kai has practically been a puppet for foreign lands to manipulate – with each Orc filling the role more than willing to trade his peoples’ futures for foreign luxuries. As such, internal strife and competition between the clans is a daily occurrence, as is decadence, corruption, nepotism and cronyism. Aurcut Axescream has gone to great lengths to secure his position, and his good-standing among his foreign backers and the local elite have meant that he is by far the longest serving Drun'kai in recent memory.

Domains: Spirits and the Veil (the boundary which separates the Living and the Dead)
Appearance:

Bio: As mortal life arose, so did the Veil, and with the Veil came Sanctus, to keep guard the boundary separating the Living and the Dead. Over time, some souls wanted to cross back over the Veil and visit their loved ones. These souls became the first Ghosts, which were added to Sanctus' domain. Souls that either didn't make it through the Veil, or returned to the land of the Living, became known as Ghosts. To keep things civil, Sanctus blessed certain mortals with 'the Sight', allowing them to see through the Veil and to communicate with the dead on behalf of others, he also different rituals to help invoke the ghosts and other spirits which call the Veil and the Land of the Dead their home.

Obligatory interest.

Also since the storms, and the seas are often connected cyclically that wouldn't be too op to app as a god for that?

Just asking.

Fuck, I was going to do a water god. XD I could switch it up and do a different concept if you want, though.

Actually, erm, sorry about that. Got a bit carried away. I won't have internet in all likelihood for the next few weeks, so I better not hold you all back by apping then not being able to post. Consider my reservations for domains cleared.

I've got a few different concepts floating around, but I'll throw in my water one for now. Or my fire one. Hrm.

Name: Tethys
Species: Ichor
Domains: Water (particular focus on tides, seasonal changes in water levels, and so on), Order/Justice (focus is particularly on removing excess and declaring when someone has had enough)
Appearance: Tethys does not adorn herself much, taking the form of a woman in 30s or 40s wearing a simple tunic. What is notable about her, however, are her eyes, which completely lack color or pupils, and can sometimes be seen to glow a faint blue. She is frequently depicted as carrying a sickle of some kind, and occasionally takes on the form of a fish or other water-dweller if she wishes to observe without being seen.
Bio: Tethys is not too new a goddess, but she's only recently begun to take an interest in acquiring worshipers--a result of the constant tendency the world has had of falling short of her expectations, and of the balance it should have abided by from the beginning. She typically polices the powerful of nations within her domain and beyond it, and bears a particular dislike in her heart for the undead, whom she believes are holding onto life that is not theirs.
RP Sample: Hunting one up.

The Grim Reaper wrote:Name: Aesthe

Accepted. The one caveat is that I tend to watch domains related to Death a bit more closely than others (its easy to accidentally do something OP or step on someone else's toes). I'm leaning towards a system where the souls of worshippers - in the overwhelming majority of cases - belong to their patron God after they die, although I think the afterlife system in this world is something we'll all have to decide on together :) Just an obligatory head's up since it may affect plans you have with Santus, but as it stands I'm liking the look of him!

Name: Ulous
Species: Ichor
Domains: War and courage
Appearance:
Image

Bio:
Ulous represents war in it's primal bestial nature. While he understands the use of tactics and strategy, he beliefs that what truly carries a warrior to victory is will, strength and courage. He blesses his faithful with the courage to overcome their inborn mortal cowardice. Thus he is praised by recruits and veterans alike prior to battle in the hope that Ulous will take pity on them and cure them of their spinelessness. He is disgusted by weak men. Men he views have the duty to protect and care for the weak in their society namely the women, children, elderly and infirm; Weak men however would not have the power required to do their duty.

He views war as a glorious thing. Ulous beliefs men cannot call themselves men unless they have killed on the field of battle. Otherwise they will remain children unhardened by war and their offspring will become weak and effeminate.

The slaughter of innocents does not bother Ulous. If their menfolk have perished and failed to protect them it proves that those people are weak and thus unworthy of sympathy. He encourages the slaughter if the beaten foe had been extremely weak.

Adherents of Ulous tend to be warlike people who are filled with passion and may give themselves to berserker rages in the field of battle. A state of mind that Ulous encourages as he believes giving into your emotions will lead to greater strength and power. Ulous also calls for war to be the first solution to nigh every problem. Diplomacy he thinks just leads to more problems and is a sign of weakness. Ergo his followers are aggressive and easy to provoke into a full-scale war. He has little time for politics or assassination, he finds that both require guile and cowardice qualities that he hates. A warrior should always be honest and not speak in riddles and when killing a man not kill him like a footpad lurking in the shadows but rather a strong warrior on the field of battle.

Ulous accepts only blood sacrifice, gold and trinkets holding little interest to him. If you want to truly honour him however you must sacrifice an animal from a people recently beaten.

Ulous rarely appears on the mortal plane but instead resides in his own realm; A harsh, desert wasteland filled with hostile effigies of the greatest mortal warriors Ulous has witnessed. He spends most of his time there occasionally checking in on his followers whenever someone sacrifices in his name.

No worries, there would still need to be something to separate the Land of the Living and the Land of the Dead, so the Veil is not affected. When it comes to Ghosts, I'm sure something could be worked out later.

Personally, I'm fine with multiple Gods sharing a domain - although I only allow it if the players involved agree. Sometimes it can be interesting to split a domain - say oceans into the calm, life-giving bounty that nourishes, and the horrifying black abyss that claims the lives of all who crosses it. Looks like you guys figured something out anyhow, but thought I'd mention the option regardless.

He tends to bless those who displayed great courage in the heat of battle and steer his faithful in the right direction so they will triumph over their foe. He is a ruthless god who only awards the strongest and bravest soldiers. A crippled veteran or an old woman will not get any help from him if they prey to him as he despises the weak and infirm.

It's looking good, but could you maybe expand on the bio a bit? Maybe his opinions on the wide variety of wars - does he view war as something that must be conducted with honour, or is his only rule victory? If the latter, then how does he value the courage of facing a foe head on? You don't have to answer those questions in particular, but just some ideas ;)

Technically no, but I'll probably have to ask you to clarify what you mean by Time and Space - since some interpretations could be 'everything' which would unfortunately fall on the OP-side of things.

In the case of Time they have control of the flow of time, and are capable of viewing various different timelines and futures. Their powers with space are more to do with Space-travel, but they can create, shape and manipulate physical aspects of space within an area of their choosing.

I'll obviously go more in depth in the app.
