[NSG Senate] Senate Chamber: Do We Have Work?

The NSG Senate
The Worst State of a Republic

〉 An Introduction
_________________________________________________________________________

Welcome to the NSG Senate. This is democracy at its worst.

In brief, we are a character-driven and dynamic government simulation roleplay where you will be a politician in the fictional Southeast Asian island nation of Elizia, where your actions and the actions of your fellow senators will shape the present and the future of the country, for the better or the worse. Will you choose to be a good and trustworthy representative or will you rise to power through backhanded maneuvers and shady deals? Will you be a crossbencher? A minister? Even a general?

Founded by Denecaep and maintained by chief admin (OP) Maklohi Vai and co-admins (co-OPs) Britanno 3, Zurkerx, Merizoc, and Arkolon. Our roleplay has existed in several iterations for well over three years , and we are the non-NS political RP.

Where do I get started? 〈
_________________________________________________________________________

First off, there's the Senate Lobby, which is our OOC thread, where we discuss about everything related to the roleplay, and sometimes even things that aren't. When needed, it also doubles as a thread where we can roleplay character interactions and other events that are RPed to occur in the legislative building's lobby. Then, there's the Coffee Shop where we propose bills for peer scrutiny and have lively debates on them. The third and arguably most important thread is the Senate Chamber, the one you are currently in, where we debate bills right before they come to a vote, and cast our ballots to decide whether a bill passes or fails. And last but not least, Daily Life in Elizia, where all roleplay that does not happen in the legislative building goes, whether it be a bus ride, a television broadcast or an Islamic attack.

Kevin shakes Richard's hand, thanking him for the help, and casually returns to his seat.

Having been placed in the chair at the top and center of the rostrum, Ahmed Alef takes a deep breath in and looks out at the chamber. He picks up the old Speaker's robe from the floor and, pulling it over his head, takes the gavel in hand and gives it a rap.

"The Senate will come to order. Without objection, the Chair appoints his personal secretary, Chong Awang, as Clerk of the Senate. The Chair submits the following two Standing Rules to the Senate: "Every bill with five sponsors shall be debated," and "The Senate shall utilize The Standard Code of Parliamentary Procedure."

"The Chair will now entertain one-minute speeches."
The POTUS of the United States, Dick G. Fischer.

"Thank you, Mister Speaker, for the two propositions. I have no objections to either for the time being, though I hope that our legislature is productive enough such that there will be too many bills with five sponsors that we could feasibly debate, and we will have to raise that cap. Let us all aspire to eventually change that rule, I say."
